Or that a sizeable percentage of the authoritarian party would destroy NATO and give the keys to the sovereign former countries of the Soviet Union to their ideal leader, Putin himself. Or that MTG has gained traction with her national divorce nonsense and is now an unquestionable leader of the authoritarian party. I haven't even touch on the stripping away of a woman's right to make her own health care decisions, or the stripping away of gay and transgender rights, or the suppression of voting rights This all didn't happen in one fell swoop. It's been an erosion. But I'm not naive enough to believe that board MAGA emoji man doesn't see all this happening. He's not who I was referring. Rather he is good with this slide into an authoritarian state. Why else would he spend every waking moment of the work week not actually working but trolling? Hate to complain about the refs, but I'm complaining about the refs. Last 3 by Lawrence he gets hit on the arm exactly like coach's younger son who got a 4 point play early in the 2nd half for Io_a. Just seemed like the refs were afraid of the coach and didn't want to make a call on Io_a to avoid the acting up until the end of the game where their need to make the over-exaggerated charging call overruled their fear. Great win by the team though. Due to the loss against MSU I expected Io_a to start running away with the game when they got up 7 in the second half, but the guys fought back and grabbed some of the mojo from their first win against Io_a to prevent them from making a field goal in like the last 6 minutes.

It was the same story with Walgreens a couple years ago. They company blamed the closures on shoplifting losses due to weak on crime city policies, but internal documents showed they were simply three of several poor-performing Walgreens nationwide that the company had long planned on closing. Even the police stepped up and said the number Walgreens was throwing out were bulls#!t. Other Walgreens with similar numbers chose to blame COVID. Although I will admit the rash of grab whatever you want without even hiding it shoplifting is a bit troubling.

I remember when a U.S. military general realized he'd been tricked into doing a photo op with Trump, iirc it was after Trump had a group of protestors cleared off the streets so he could stand in front of a church with a Bible and supporters, implying the general was one of them. The general quickly held a press conference explaining why it shouldn't have happened. I may be going out on a limb here, but I do believe the military has a stronger code of honor than the average police force.

Your comments are very misleading Nic. If you read the article you'll see the Portland closings have nothing to do with shoplifting. If I had to make a guess why a store like Walmart doesn't do well in Portland it is likely more because of the people's support of small businesses in their community rather than feeding the beast that comes in and shutters others, pays lower wages and impacts the community in a negative way. It's one thing to plunk one down in rural Idaho, another to try and make one work in a city or it's suburbs.

I am not sure what the DEI programs do. If it's about providing access to better education and opportunities for minorities great. If it's about dumming down the curriculum to a lower standard in the name of equity, forget it. If it's not merit based, I am not that interested. And when I say merit I don't mean they have to be a 4.0. If a kid goes from a failing student to a overall 3.0 because he was inspired by a teacher, coach, parent along the way, that is a great story. If this kid has put in the effort, by all means give them the reward and even more opportunity.
