44 Lbs. of pork shoulder butts in the smoker. Hope it's enough.

Quick question- Student tickets. Should my daughter go for south stadium or east stadium? Why?
-
Guise, I just had the best liver & onions I've ever had in my life. So good.

I've really been liking this Jersey Mike's that opened here recently.

I agree @ladyhawke the bread is awesome and there must be a solid 1” of meat on that Super Sub. I also love their oil and vinegar and seasoning. The meatballs are like 2”-2.5” diameter full size meatballs cut in half. Where is the drooling emoji? Think I know what I’m having for lunch.

A 20 year old Colorado man has been bitten by a shark, bear and rattlesnake all within a 4 year span.

Ha, @funhusker that is exactly what I thought of when I first heard about this.

So is it a new goal to remove all possibly contentious discussion from status updates?

@ZRod Like I said, maybe it's just me and maybe I'm wrong or in the minority. I guess stating that America is triggered doesn't throw it into some untouchable realm or necessarily make it political in nature by my standards.
-
@Comfortably Numb I didn't see the status update in question but I know the photo you're referencing. I would say, on balance, sharing that topic in the status updates (given the context/intent of that photo and the general contentious nature of guns in America) is a bad idea. Adding a personal comment about people being 'triggered' is an additional bad idea because of that term's popularity and negative connotation recently.
Ultimately, and as you mentioned, it's not really about squelching political speech or freedom of expression. It's more about a) what our members tell us they want b) what's best for the board. Although P&R is a popular forum here, I will always fall back on this being a Huskerboard and we need to usually make that the priority consideration. When political status updates were really at a head last year, we lost some members and had people tell us they didn't want to join our board because of the overwhelming political tones. I think ultimately trimming down this talk in the status updates, while keeping P&R open, is a healthy and amicable balance for everyone involved.
I do appreciate your understanding, though. Sorry if I came off as a bit of a jerk above. The moderation aspect has helped us quite a bit but it wasn't a driving factor.

Brisket's in the smoker at 3:30AM. Hope it's ready by supper time.

@ZRod I had planned to crutch it but it powered right through the stall. Its at 180 now so it will definitely be done for supper. Going to put it in the faux cambro when it hits 203. I did inject it with some beef broth. I didn't go low sodium but I did cut back a little on the exterior salt rub. I used Meathead's Big Bad Beef rub recipe and tweaked it a bit. Added some finely ground coffee (Starbucks Sumatra) and a bit more garlic and cayenne and a touch of brown sugar.

@ZRod, you should check out the searzall: https://www.amazon.com/Searzall-Torch-Attachment-Small-Stainless/dp/B00L2P0KNO/ref=sr_1_1?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1524274983&sr=1-1&keywords=searzall
Saves having to fire up the grill and get it hot.

Barbacoa y Menudo. Mmmmm.
-
Yes but it's Soooo good. I get a hankering for Menudo on the weekends when it's a little chilly out. I don't generally like it otherwise. The Barbacoa is just a nice change from usual breakfast fare. We have a little Mexican bakery that does both excellent. And their fresh made tortillas are killer.

So, we're bombing Syria...

@OH HSKR FAN did your mama tell you not to go?

Been a bad week in Greeley high schools. 3 HS students, 1 from each of the 3 largest schools, have committed suicide within 4 or 5 days of each other. We knew one of the kids. Pretty sad and concerning.

That is awful and I am sorry to hear that. We have had 5 suicides this school year at the HS. Neighboring schools have had issues too. Kids anywhere from 12 to 18 years old taking their own lives. Really makes you stop and think about the impact you can have on your environment. Even the smallest act of kindness or attempt at connecting with someone could save a life. Prayers for those you have lost and for those who are hurting and need help.
-
Wow, just found out some details on the kid we knew. More of stupidity/accident than suicide. Apparently he put one bullet in a revolver, spun it and lost. supposedly was driving with his girlfriend, on cocaine, and he was distraught that she was breaking up with him. Yes, I said he was driving, the car was moving, and his GF was in there as he decided to play drug addled Russian roulette. And why did he have a revolver handy? There's a lot to process with this one.

And CSU snubs Becky Hammon fo men's bball coach.

Maybe we could get Becky to coach in Lincoln?
I mean, it's not like we could 'not' get into the NCAA Tournament any more than we have lately, right? And frankly, she's got NBA chops that the kids looking to go to the next level would love.
Find some great assistant coach talent to bolster her, and we'd be a hell of a story, and possibly a hell of a program down the road.

A bit strange being back in Huskerland. I forgot the year round preoccupation of the media with Husker football. I mean I knew it still existed but I just really hadn’t experienced it firsthand without actively searching for it here on HB.

Smoking all kinds of meat tomorrow. A couple pork butts, a corned beef brisket and two types of sausage. Gonna be painful...Friday...Lent. Really should've picked any other day to do it.

@ZRod I usually slice it across the grain, bigger slices for eating plain or thin slice it to make Ruebens or sandwich meat. Good luck, you won't regret it. Let me know how it goes

What are the chances NU will have a B-ball game at PBA on March 14, 15 or 16th? Going to be in Lincoln those days.

Anybody ever do your own concrete countertops?

@MLB 51 From what I've seen with stain is you can build more depth of color, do veins etc. I want to make it look like granite or natural stone. Got 5 different stain colors. Going to put some mica flakes in the epoxy, do a few dark veins. Imma go crazy.
-
@Comfortably Numb, I highly recommend doing some trial runs/tests on scrap concrete. Sometimes the big box stores will have some broken blocks they'll give you.

Lucky day! Stopped to get Mexican food for supper on my way home only to discover it is National Margarita day. This might take awhile...

No Illegal Pete’s that I know of....Don’t think I’ve even heard of that. Just a lot of hole in the wall places around here with really good mex food. A lot of them you wouldn’t go into if you didn’t know any better. The one I wish we’d get up here in Greeley is a Hacienda Colorado. Got those down in Denver and the Springs....more Tex-mexish, pretty good stuff.

I really despise high cleaning day.

Why is curling not more popular? It's basically just shuffleboard on ice, requires little physical conditioning, conducive to having a beer in hand, and when you get tired you have a broom to lean on. Count me in.

Back in the day I played a lot of shuffleboard and was very good. Every once in awhile hustlers would show up at the bar we played at. Of course we played for money. So I would sandbag strangers early and then when they raised the stakes would reverse hustle them. That almost led to some blood being shed a few times

The #1 Google search in Moiraine's area code is "oiled up Tonga guy". What could that be all about?

Pretty bummed/sad today. A local HS senior girl was hit and killed by a train in her SUV Tuesday night. My daughter had played softball and 3 years of club volleyball with her. We found out out of the blue while watching the news last night. Quite the gut punch.

I came very close to being in a train accident back when I was in high school. I had a car-full of friends, we were goofing off, and nobody (including me) noticed the train until the very last second. I was able to slam on the brakes and somehow slide to a stop about 10 feet from the tracks. They put up lights and a crossing arms the next year, but I still find myself thinking about what could have happened. We were lucky. I'm sorry this young lady was not.

So how'd we do today and overall 'cruiting compared to recent past years?
