zoogs
Oh, wow. Going to have to scrap everything I said before. That kind of pressure is both totally understandable and kind of sad to see. You gotta go where your heart is, and it's not easy when it's torn in this way. 7 Quote Link to comment
NM11046
Poor kid - it's one thing if you decide (a la Porcher) that you can't handle not having family at games - it's another when your family pressures you to choose so that they can be there. Sad he couldn't just pull back and say he was waiting to announce rather than stress himself, his farm and the Nebraska coaches out by doing what he did, in what looks to be a premature announcement. Love that Riley called him and asked "how did we go wrong". You have to learn from these scenarios and I like that NE looked at it as not just an 18 year old making a wacky decision, but also how could we avoid this in the future. 1 Quote Link to comment
Hedley Lamarr
So wait Calvin wants to go to Nebraska....he was previously a silent commit right before the dead period. He sounded heart broken when he announced for OSU. It all makes sense now. This kid didnt commit to OSU. His family pushed him to do it. Quote Link to comment
ScottyIce
Goodness mom. Nebraska is on BTN and will likely be in a couple bowl games in your area during his college career. Hopefully you can travel to a couple games every year as well, but if not, how is that so important? I will never understand the "what is it all for?" Comment. It's for your son to play big time football and earn a scholarship for free, not for you to go watch him play "in person." 2 Quote Link to comment

macroboy
Some of you really got your feeling hurt by an 18 year old kid. You mad, bro? The article was enlightening. Tough decision involving family. It doesn't make us look weak or desperate to take a top 250 player with his talent. And why are you worried about how 'we' look? You know what makes 'us' look good. Talent on the field. In 2 years no one will remember any of this stuff and he might be scoring TD's for the corn! 2 Quote Link to comment

That article brought some things to light that really make you feel for the kid though. Always said I wanted him N, hope he still gets here. Quote Link to comment
Bad2theBONES
Unfortunately, what his mother said makes it sound like she is fishing for a donor or someone to purchase the family tickets to come see games. Her son going to Oregon State would have allowed their family to go to what.... a home game for UCLA when they play them once every couple years and a home game USC game once every two years? That is such a terrible excuse. It sounds like she had her son commit to Oregon State on a national stage and now is telling Nebraska papers that her son wants to go to Nebraska but the family can't afford to come watch his games.... wow 1 Quote Link to comment

SouthLincoln Husker
http://www.omaha.com/huskers/football/recruiting/his-heart-is-with-nebraska-nu-recruit-jamire-calvin-not/article_b0906880-d84c-11e6-99d1-a3b1508b955d.html What is it all for??? How about your kid getting an education and following his dreams. Yana Johnson, Calvin's mother, told The World-Herald Wednesday that Calvin's recruiting process isn't over despite the dramatic announcement on NBC. NU is not only in the mix, Johnson said, it's where Calvin prefers to attend. Calvin, a slot receiver at Los Angeles Cathedral High School, is currently committed to the Beavers, Johnson said, in large part because he's trying to consider his family's ability to attend games. “His heart is with Nebraska,” Johnson said. “He wants to go there.” “It's something we're trying to work through, how we'd be able to travel for the games,” Johnson said. “It's not personal. It's more of an issue of how we are going to get there. If we can't go see him play in any games, then what is it all for?” Sounds like mom is worried about her and not her son's future success!
