  1. I follow Allyne Hane (The Lawn Care Nut) on YouTube and Twitter for lawn tips and this is after my first mow of the season after throwing down some Milorganite and lawn starter. I did throw down some tall turf fescue within the yard and in some bare spots. After a week I haven’t seen any grass growing but that’s normal should see some/ little results by week 2. I used the toro lawn striper today and made some double wide stripes

  2. The "Nebraska Way" of doing things was an easy motto to talk about when NU was dominating college football in the 90s. Even then, Osborne brought in a lot of "not so nice" players to help push NU over the top and get to those national championships. After NU stopped being the dominating team, some fans want hang on to the "Nebraska Way" as some type of mythological/legendary way of "doing things right".

  3. I can respect that. But here is how I view it. I don't put a lot of value on strength of opposition because I'm mostly looking at technique and decision making independent of the opposition. (Verduzco's analysis did the same) Let's take Gebbia, for example. Very accurate in throwing the ball on his completions, but had a few that were very far off. Do I question his ability to throw in a tight window? No. Why? The Mike Williams TD is a good example. Just a little flat route that Gebbia throws outside and in front of Williams. On that particular play the design and a really well run route helped eliminate the defender, so he was wide open, but the throw was on target to give his guy a chance to make the play while shielding a would be trailing defender. It doesn't matter that the defender was beat, that was the correct location for that ball and it was well placed with proper timing. Take Martinez's throw to McQuitty as another example. Really good job going through his progressions, proper decision, but the throw is erratic. It doesn't matter that the defender is nowhere to be seen or that the result is a TD, that's an erratic throw. Martinez had a tendency, regardless of coverage or pass rush, to throw high. That's a mechanics issue and correctable, but I don't need to see him play against 1st teamers to recognize that. Most of my questions regarding any of the QBs against a top unit are related to the offensive line, moreso than any separation between the QBs. I'm also, to be fair, projecting a bit based on the excellent work ethic shown and our gifted QB coach.

  4. Nah, I think that matters minimally. It’s already been reported Oregon wasn’t really interested in him as a QB, even though Dad is there.

  5. Hmm. Things are developing here a bit. Turns out... he has a sibling that attends Nebraska and is an athlete as well. Visit in May or June and wanting to decide by July.

  10. Dallas Cowboy fan. My fave Cowboy ever? Hershel Walker. Trading him built the dynasty in the 90's.... Same with Riley. Frost meets or exceeds expectations he might go down as one of the favorite NU coaches....Because his craptastic show allowed us to get Frost home.

  13. Ya, hard to develop depth when you pick your five and that's just it, that's who you are going to prep then keep in the whole game. He lost me right out of the gate when that stupidity came to light post-BYU.

  14. No....I believe the President can not deploy military in a state without the state’s permission. This is was part of why some of the criticism of Bush after Katrina was miss placed.

  16. I'm feeling very good about things but there are plenty of reasons to doubt our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd string QB can all play at a high level against opposing teams. We have only seen the QBs face a defense that was horrible last season and they weren't even facing all of the best defensive players from that horrible defense. They all looked capable but how good were the players they were playing against? I think we'll be improved on both offense and defense because I believe in this staff's ability to coach players and games, but I don't think we know much about the QBs yet. Especially not enough to say all 3 of them would do well.

  19. I think the biggest thing Frost wants is versatility. Having RBs that can split out wide and WRs that can take handoffs. These type of abilities allow the scheme to work without a lot of substitutions and truly make everyone a threat to move the ball. I also agree that three RBs this cycle are ok, if it's Grayson, Johnson and Bivens. This systems spreads the carries out and not one back gets a lionshare. Taking three would allow Held to invest in swinging for a top 100-150 type player in '20.

  20. To add to this discussion on numbers: Guys that played RB in high school often play somewhere else in college. I don't know what Frost's plans are for having guys change position, but getting more athletes in is really vital. Fwiw, I don't think 3 is too many to take this year if they're the right guys. The biggest concern is balancing roster numbers if you take that many, not so much distributing carries in this offense.

  21. I'm fine with it but I don't recall ever caring much how it was done. But people are having selective memories on what the tradition was now that Chinander and Frost want to do it a non-traditional way.

  22. That's literally 99% of what it has to do with. Can't wait to chuckle at the idea of everyone suddenly being once again fine with the Bo Pelini methodology of handing them out sometime during the season, if Frost takes that route.

  23. You said it has nothing to do with being a starter. The entire tradition is literally based on being a starter. There wouldn’t be any Blackshirts if it weren’t for coaches wanting to differentiate the starters. So, yeah, it has a helluva lot to do with being a starter. Unless you mean the Italian fascists. They definitely gave max effort and had a kick your a** attitude.

  24. It had to do with being a starter until Pelini. It just so happened that Nebraska had good defenses, so the Blackshirts made a name for themselves. Which top backups got them before Pelini? Which worst starter on the team didn't get one?

  26. The problem with waiting until they’ve “earned it” is when they proceed to give up 408 yards to the opposing runningback or getting their doors blown off by a 7-5 team in the B1G title game. Pelini withheld them, but ultimately handed them out at some point each season. In the last few years, it seemed more like “well, that’s probably the best our D is going to look this year, we better hand them out now.”

  28. But seriously, look at that Camp Chef one linked above if you're interested in all at smoking/BBQ. I don't have one, but it looks pretty slick. Pellet = Easy mode for low and slow, show to heat up, cant get very hot to sear steaks. Gas = Quick & Easy, not as hot, can't do low and slow very well. Charcoal Kettle = Can do low and slow with help, can get very hot, lots of work to maintain a cook. Kamado (Big Green Egg) = Expensive, can get very hot (over 900º), can do low and slow with relative ease. But they're smaller, heavier, and more expensive.

  36. I kind of wondered about that, too -- i thought i had heard him saying he didnt like Friday games, but at the time I thought he was referring to the Illinois game. As for game planning ... um, yeah, 7 days vs. 6 days ... did it really matter?
