  1. Wow... what? We had people posting pictures of Tommy Armstrong on his scooter here on HuskerBoard. Our insider guys were talking about Martinez' prognosis all weekend. I don't get what people are reacting to with this tweet. Would it be different if the guy's daughter had tweeted that? It's the same info. Truly baffled by the reaction to this tweet from several responses here. Anyone want to clue me in on this?

  3. Or maybe there's more to it than just the stats you chose to look at. We out-gained Colorado by 170 yards. BYU out-gained us by 66 yards We out-rushed Colorado by 285 yards. BYU out-rushed us by 6 yards Against Colorado we averaged 6.8 yards per play. Against BYU we averaged 5.7 yards per play Against Colorado we completed 65.5% of our passes. Against BYU we completed 58.5% of our passes Against Colorado we had 7 sacks. Against BYU we had 3 sacks Against Colorado our starting QB went down with injury when we could have iced the game with a couple more first downs. Our starting QB played the entire game against BYU. So maybe - just maybe - despite the stats that you chose to point out that make the games seem fairly equal, the fact is that we were actually significantly better than those stats - and the final score - indicate this time around.

  6. It sure felt familiar when Bell fumbled on the opening drive. I decided to do some research and sure enough Nebraska has turned the ball over on the opening drive 15 times since 2008 with a record of 4-11. I have no idea how this compares with other teams, but it sure doesn't seem like a good trend. I don't see it continuing, but thought it was interesting/depressing. *Turnover on first offensive play 2008: Iowa State W 35-7 OU L 62-28 * Kansas State W 56-28 2009: Iowa State enough said... * 2010: South Dakota State W 17-3* Washington Holiday Bowl L 19-7 2012: Wisconsin B1G Championship* 2013: Mich. 7. It's as ridiculous as pre-season rankings but it's something to do. I calculate z-scores and convert them to percentiles for all the stats I can from nine categories: passing defense and offense; rushing defense and offense; scoring defense and offense; total defense and offense; and turnover margin. The numbers in the first three lists below are averages of all the stats for the categories I give details for below (the three lists which focus on good old Nebraska U). Once we have enough data, I'll prune all games that weren't played between conference teams from the FBS statistics all teams are compared to (via calculation of the z-scores). Sometimes I just take all the games not played against other FBS teams out but we all know not all FBS conferences are created equal either. Rank Team overall 1 Toledo 88.57 2 Ohio State 83.31 3 Boise State 81.03 4 Boston College 80.95 5 Mississippi State 80.32 6 Oklahoma State 79.88 7 Alabama 75.65 8 Georgia 75.34 9 TCU 75.08 10 Missouri 9. Frost has no message like that, therefore it would discredit nothing. In fact it would send a bad message to the rest of the team if he didn’t play a superior true freshman over an inferior senior. Frost has never said or implied that he would be “loyal” to a player over playing the best player. Because that would be stupid. Any coach who plays someone out of loyalty when there’s another better player at their position should not be coaching at the college level. That’s the kind of thing you see in middle school sports when a kid’s dad is coaching and the kid gets to play the whole game even if he sucks. The main message all spring and summer and fall was that all starting spots are up for grabs, which is the opposite of what you’re saying. That said I agree the situations are different, and at UCF in the first year Frost played a guy who was there already when he arrived. We don’t know what would have happened if Gebbia had been a returning starter. I feel confident Lee would have been the 4th or 5th string QB though.

  10. If I could +100 this comment I would. Burkhead didn't/doesn't have breakaway speed. Helu didn't have the physicality of LP and AG who also had breakaway speed. Helu and Burkhead were good...very good. LP and AG were G.O.A.T.s. End of conversation.

  11. I get your point on the oline. But most people- and not just husker people would say Phillips may have been one of the best talents they had ever seen at runningback. He got a little sideways with trouble when he got to the NFL. AG went on to be the all time leading rusher in packers history. So that is further evidence it was not just subjective or the husker olines. Helu and burkhead are in the NFL but they are not on the same level.

Hey Husker fans, Troy fan here coming into Lincoln for this weekends game and would like ideas of what to do on Friday, best place to visit tailgaters, parking, places to eat, sports bars, etc. We have played there before however I wasn't able to attend so this is a going to be a great adventure! Would just like some hints where we might have some FUN BANTER back and forth on Friday as well as a great place to go afterwards to watch the rest of the college football action (I LOVE 11:00 kicks!!!). Any help or information would be greatly appreciated! Go Troy!

  16. Huskers' ball - 15:00 1st Quarter 1&10,-25 - Zone-read look but it's a called give to Bell for six yards. Colorado walked an extra guy down into the box who made the tackle. 2&4,-31 - Bell motions out of the backfield, LB follows leaving five to block five on the QB draw. Great play for 18 yards 1&10,-49 - Quick out to Spielman from the inside Trips spot. Bad, low throw but Spielman grabs it and spins inside for 9 yards 2&2,+42 - Inside Zone to Bell but the LB blitzes and blows things up. Gain of 2 1&10,+40 - Motion Spielman into backfield, triple option with Bell, Martinez keeps for 11 yards 1&10, +29 - Inside Zone to Bell, only six to block seven. Gain of 3 2&7,+26 - Spielman motions out of the backfield, Inside Zone to Bell, unblocked ILB makes the tackle, gain of 3 3&3,+23 - Looks like everyone was blocking Outside Zone but Bell cuts inside (there was a decent hole), get sandwiched and fumbles

  22. Exactly. Then you factor in an 18 year old, true Freshman QB that hasn't played in a live game environment in two years who throws for a 75% completion percentage and rushes for 117 yards. The mind boggles at how good this team could be. I feel like a lot of the above was incorrectly shoved aside by a good portion of the fan base because of how the last possession by each team went down. It honestly shouldn't.

  23. 329 yards rushing. 7 sacks. 5 QB hurries. 14 tackles for a loss. That's a solid blueprint for success. Get that turnover margin evened out and NU will be a tough out for just about everyone on the schedule.

Did it maker her feel less adequate as a human being? And....what the hell does this have to do with the NRA? PS.....I know the answers.

  33. Yeah, I don't think so either. I'd have to go back and see how Frost worded it. I can see being "tight" and not cutting/accelerating like he should have. But not running straight-line at top speed. I do think the Colorado defender had a bit of an angle on him on the first run. But the second run I really thought he was gone. I just don't think he's as fast as we hoped he would be.

She would not be able to afford any of her medicine if not for the ACA because no insurance company would touch her with a 10 foot pole. I really can’t understand how anyone in their right mind would put their own life and death beneath things like gun rights (that’s a big one for her) and immigration.

  35. If you must do this, then buy them at the stadium. They are 10 times better at the stadium for whatever reason (maybe because they cook longer in the insulated carriers). Usually Val's and Runza are soggy and kinda gross at the restaurants. Pretty much what teach said on bars. BTW it's "Elk Creek Water". And if you feel like ending your night early just drink the pitcher by yourself. Or be a good friend and share, whatever you want Leadbelly's is a good bar and awesome place to get some excellent food if you're near the railyard. Get the Rasberry Beret, you'll thank me later.
