  1. I was at the Garth concert and it made me go from very pro beer-sales-at-Memorial to very much the opposite. It was a much "drunker" experience than games. People were far more rude and loud and silly and, truly, there is no space for all of the cans in the isles, you end up standing on trash by the end no matter where you stand. After spending the better part of 20 years hoping that we change to beer sales, I am off the wagon like an old geezer. Get drunk before you come like the good old days and sober up by the 4th, keep the smell and the beer and the stumbling out imo.

  2. They sold half of that to the guy in front of me.

  3. I don’t think there is any side innocent to Bo’s departure/tenure. Fans leaving games at halftime and threats/taunts to the team on social media or in person or even family (so dirty), media leaking audio, administrators not supporting their coaches, and ultimately coaches not getting players prepared and losing their minds on the sideline. Can argue who’s impact was greater, but in the end it’s just a negative culture, and for any coach to survive they have to have a strong culture in place - which is why Bo was able to be successful without a support system. Bo, was not the guy for several reasons, which is why I was OK with him being let go, still am content with that decision, but the administrators were not the right people either and needed to go before Bo did. We reap what we sow and it’s going to take time to see the progress after implementing changes. Just like it took time to watch a world beater become a punching bag.

  4. My brother-in-law's cousin (unvaccinated) died in Texas yesterday from complications due to COVID and she was unable to get into an ICU bed because they were full. Unrelated to her death, I ran into a college friend of mine yesterday. He's in his last year of residency in Omaha and he's in the pulmonary/ICU rotation. He's averaging about 80 hours per week right now and the hospital has removed hour limitations so that they can work as long as needed. He's spending a good chunk of his time still fighting with families who don't believe their loved one has COVID (fighting as in... he has to call the family to give them status updates and the families are insolent and verbally abusive). Things obviously aren't as bad in Omaha as they are other places, but most medical professionals are mentally and physically exhausted... and the solution to the problem is out there. Too many people just refuse to buy into it.

  5. I'd actually like to see the Big 12 live (for at least 4 more years) to make Texas and OU either have to stay for 4 years or pay a huge buyout.

  6. Man, if there was ever a time we would have the personnel to move back to a I formation option offense, its now. Martinez at qb, Yant at FB, Ervin, Morrison, Steppe at IBack. Two good sized blocking TEs and an OLine that has gotten huge.

  7. Here is what I have learned, I thought Solich should have been fired, I was wrong I was excited about Callahan, I was wrong I thought Bo should have been fired, I was wrong I was excited about Riley, I was wrong I thought Frost was the savior, I appear to be wrong (that can still change) I am probably an average, stupid, hopeful, still want to see greatness again, Husker Fan. I just want the season to start so we can complain/celebrate something different.

  8. Hey everyone, I'm starting a new Husker newsletter breaking down scheme and analytics and thought some people here might be interested in reading the latest post, "What is Nebraska's Offensive Identity?" Link below: https://black41flashreverse.substack.com/p/what-is-nebraskas-offensive-identity I had previously mentioned in some other threads that I was revisiting our games and some of the personnel/tight ends stuff I had found, and people seemed interested, so I thought I'd share the post explaining overall what I discovered. That our tight end usage was that heavy -- basically heavier than any team I could find data for -- and the diversity of stuff Nebraska is running was pretty wild. Also, if you enjoyed reading and want more stuff like this, sign up for the free newsletter! All of the posts will be delivered to your e-mail inbox. The plan is to have weekly posts breaking down each game in the same way I did these and a weekly opponent preview, plus some other stuff mixed in when I feel it's necessary. And please share with anyone who might be interested in Husker football or scheme!

  12. This is why I always just roll my eyes when people say, "just put the best athletes on the field and let them play". NO......they have to understand the defense and how to play defense at this level. On top of them being young, the rest of the defense was young too. So, they had some upper classmen to bring them along, but not enough and not the upper class leadership that's needed. It's also why I think it's so important that we have that on the defense this year. Hopefully those older players are going to have a good defense this year and teach the younger players what it takes.

  13. This is exactly the point of my comparing your posts. You're just complaining to complain without rationale for why you're complaining, which why I called it a tirade. You argue that the US shouldn't have left weapons but can't explain what they should have done. You're complaining that the US waited an additional 6 months without considering what would have happened if we had left 6 months ago. (Likely even more weapons would have been left, for example.) And then when challenged, you try to avoid having to answer with stuff like: "Because it's not a real question. There isn't a right answer." and "You're playing word gymnastics"

  14. Why hasn't Bo Pelini been hired for another P5 job?

  15. I mean, someone in the media recorded him, secretly, held on to that recording and then dumped it to the public. That is pretty much media being out to get him. Ha And Dirk wrote that creepy article about Bo having a nervous tick.

  19. We needed to get out of there and any President who did it was going to get to grief, but Biden royally f#&%ed up true exit plan. I mean, who exits all the military and then says ok everyone else should get out now too?

  20. Crisis of competence because: Afghanistan collapsed in a week without a single bullet fired - meaning this was a done deal months ago, and Biden couldn't change the takeover. Months ago he conveyed the CDC's message (not his, the CDC's) that we didn't have to wear masks indoors if vaccinated - before the Delta variant took over thanks to the unvaccinated, largely in Republican-led states. Biden's goal of 70% vaccination wasn't met because people chose not to get vaccinated following a months-long campaign from anti-vaxxers. The border crisis following trump's dismantling of the asylum system. Biden's poll numbers now show him at only 50% approval rating - higher than trump's ever was. All of that is a "crisis of competence." Soberly written after watching the s-show of the last four years. That was a great opinion piece.

  21. If they ran out, sales-by-brand won't be that interesting - they should have sold all they brought. A person may not like Bud Light, but if that's all the beer they have, that's the beer they're going to drink.

  22. There's always going to be a combination of events for everything in life. The lack of pediatric ICU beds will kill kids - and covid is a big part of it, which is why the judge in the article wanted relief from the Texas Gov's anti-mask order.

  23. You went on a tirade about how we needed to get the troops out and Biden wasn't going to do it. Now you're on a tirade that there were consequences for getting the troops out. And then you pretend I'm the one arguing in bad faith for pointing it out.

  24. I f'n loved those games. If I had those teams every year I'd be content and chances are high Bo probably is still the coach here (assuming he kept his temper in check) But, in my opinion, the level of play we had the last 2.5-4 years was the not the same as the first half of his tenure which those games you outlined fell into.

  26. Don't get me wrong, I had a blast for sure. Just saying if that was going to be the norm at football games, no way I would want to partake in that 8 times/year, I'd be much more apt to just watch at home. I've had season tickets for 8 years now since I grew up enough to be able to afford them and don't plan to let them go. I know it was a concert and so the atmosphere different, and I didn't hate it for what it was at all. Again, had a blast, borderline life changing for me in our current Covid world. I've been to NFL games as well which end up similarly. I have no problem taking the kids to an NFL game every now and again, but for sure, much prefer the 'family' atmosphere in Memorial. I know there are people in all phases of life, but for me, beer sales would likely end my desire to go very often at all.

  27. We have issues at home we need to be spending money on. Some of them are bi partisan like infrastructure. We care constantly told we don't have money to do these things. But, we then constantly increase the military budget to astronomical levels. It''s INSANE what we spend on our military and that's not even counting the lives that are lost or totally screwed up because we have military personnel in places like Afghanistan doing things that their own government and military should be doing. We then go to public events and everyone's supposed to be patriotic and have patriotism towards out military rammed down our throats. Nobody is supposed to question any of it....we are just supposed to be good patriotic Americans and keep pumping trillions of dollars into the military to stay in places like this. We need OUT of places like this. If the world feels they need to go fix Afghanistan, it needs to be a world effort and other countries can pitch in one hell of a lot to do it. I'm sick and tired of Americans being criticized from around the world and within our borders because we don't want out military doing this anymore.

  29. Afghanistan wasn't a lie (Iraq was). The Taliban harboured AQ and Bin Laden. That's why we invaded. Yes, the majority of the terrorists were Saudi and that shouldn't have gone unchecked, but if somebody sucker punches you and runs off to his buddy's flat you don't go to his mom's house and hope he comes back there.

  30. Obviously the vast majority would not. This person below might however. Maybe she was trying to funny, but after seeing what people posted in 2020 i am no longer sure. There is a thread on this board about the angry violent right or something like that. I honestly saw the opposite in 2020. Lots of really nasty posts on Facebook from friends/family that are on the left. The friends and family on the right were either posting snarky memes or sometimes stuff that seemed border line conspiracy theory. Or they were silent for fear of letting on they supported Trump and didn't want the backlash.

  33. The Admn 100%. I picked up something Trev said in the presser when he was announced about Frost (paraphrase) no longer having to do other things, but can focus on football matters. If Moos was AWOL as much as rumored, I can imagine that Frost was pulled administratively in directions that took him away from football matters, was not his strong suit and probably caused some real or perceived stressors he dod not need. I also agree that if Frost can do what Bo did ie 9-10 wins, win the division, play for the conference occasionally, this job is his until he decides to leave. If he can do that, I see a huge uptick in recruiting. A lot easier to say we were a game or 2, play or 2 away from winning the conference. Then currently sitting on 3 losing seasons. And the recruiting is still very good IMHO despite the W-L record.

  41. My concern in all of this is 4 fold: 1. The hit on our image world wide. Are we now perceived as a paper tiger? 2. China - filling the vacuum. China has already said they would recognize the Taliban govt once/if it took control. China now becomes the influential leader in that area of the world with out leading. One could argue, that Afghan is to China what Central America is to the USA (Perhaps the USA should tend to its own neighborhood's issues??) 3. Taiwan & S. Korea. China may be all of the more willing to make a bold move to forceably annex Taiwan back into its country. N Korea may be emboldened to to move on S. Korea (less likely than a China move on Taiwan but not out of the question wt the Kim family leadership). Is there concern in Taiwan and S. Korea on the steadfastness of the USA's support of those 2 countries. Also, does Russia now take advantage of us in East Europe? 4. A new wave of terrorism around the world aimed at US interests. Does Afghan now become again a rejuvenated terrorist base? Finger pointing: Bush, Obama, Trump and Biden - enough to go all around. Primarily it is on Bush & his failure to understand that we can't nation build in that type of culture. Should have gotten out after hitting the terrorists and the Taliban. Obama - caught in a bad situation. Perhaps the on going nation building and allowing a corrupt govt to be the recipient of out generosity. Trump - a date certain exit plan and negotiating wt terrorists without the involvement of the Afghan govt. Having the naivety of believing the Taliban would abide by any agreement - So Much Winning. Biden - too rigid in his exit strategy. He blamed Trump's plan but he is the man in charge and could have altered how this thing would end. Regardless on who negotiated the exit strategy, it will be perceived as a Biden failure. These 2 articles note the failure of our intelligence team and the administration's failure to understand that we were paying for a house of cards - a corrupt one at that. 42. A concert like this is a very different situation than a game in many ways. Beer is sold at many sporting events across the country without much of a problem. I was just at an MLB game a week ago, had a few beers, nobody was out of line or rude or throwing trash all over.

  43. Yeah, I agree. I know there are a lot of people that like the "stick it to the man" type of feel but a lot of people that have rental properties are not making millions off of them. a lot of people just have a rental house or a 4plex.

Losing one on a series of clusterf#&%s against Texas and in a position to beat Oklahoma. Yes, the Wisconsin game was horrible... Also Husker some fans: "Scott Frost shouldn't be fired because of his potential if he makes a bowl game this year!"
