Jaevon McQuitty's friend, the father of McQuitty's godson, passed away. There's a GoFundMe for his funeral.

Happy Tour de France eve, everyone.

This story about the soccer team lost in the flooded cave in Thailand is crazy. They're all alive after a week, and to get them out they may have to teach them all how to scuba dive.

@Comfortably Numb why don't you have a seat?

Bo Kittrell & Jacob Weinmaster came to the running club last night to talk about the Football Road Race (to benefit Team Jack). They did a "fun facts" about them as an intro. When Kittrell was 4 years old he dressed up as Scott Frost for Halloween.

Samuel Tom Holiday, a Navajo Code Talker who joined the Corps at 19 to serve in WWII, has died at age 94. RIP, sir.
-
Heh, that's a coincidence. I was just thinking about the Code Talkers yesterday. I was reading about the Hopi fifth world prophecy, and started wondering whether the Hopi language is more indecipherable than Navajo language. The Hopi and Navajo tribes live in about the same area, in NW Arizona near four corners.

Running is not going well. Mostly because I'm not a runner, and because running is the devil. But I've got a 5K route planned for this evening, and while I'll probably die doing it, I'm going to do it.

Even with a known condition he has to get an exemption and it looks like he never got one. There's two reasons for that - his condition hasn't been shown to be so debilitating that he needs the meds or he & his team have been lax and just not gotten it. I can't imagine the latter being the case with a world-class cyclist/cycling team. My guess is he's mildly asthmatic and is using the meds as a permissible PDE. Hate to say that, but if this is your job & your life, you get that certificate. Right?
-
I agree Knappic. The sport of cycling, unfortunately, has been tainted for a long time. I think most people knew Lance was doping but he still had to train and he still had to know how to handle the bike. He deserved what he got especially since he lied for so long (I especially feel sorry for his son. The kid defended his Dad to the end then had to find out Lance lied. So sad. ). Lance brought such a heightened awareness to cycling and it would have been so great to have his take of the Tour along with Phil, Paul and Bobke. (Lance does have a podcast during the tour. )

Wasn't there a Denny's in downtown Lincoln on P or Q between 9th & 10th streets back in the 1980s?

With James Palmer and Isaac Copeland back, Nebraska returns 79% of its scoring, 80% of its rebounds and 71% of its assists from last season.

Gonna grill a spatchcocked chicken tonight. If it looks good I'll post results in the food forum. If it doesn't turn out well, we'll forget I ever mentioned it.

@ladyhawke I didn't know Sur le Table did that. I haven't been there in years. I mostly get my cooking tools from Hockenbergs. I'll have to check them out.
-
knappic, it's really fun. You have to pay for it but what a fun date for you and a friend/wife/whatever. You will leave very full too! (Sorry about the above post. After I typed in your name it wouldn't let me type anything else. Weird!)
So, how did your chicken turn out? I'll bet it was really good!

Today was the first 90-degree day in Lincoln since September 23rd last year.

Nebraska Athletic Director Bill Moos announced Wednesday that Men’s Golf Head Coach Bill Spangler and Men’s Tennis Head Coach Kerry McDermott will not return following the expiration of their contracts this summer.

Practice field getting new fieldturf.
Sorry for the multiple status updates so quickly.

I'm pretty sure that's right @TonyStalloni. We toured the facilities a couple months ago and I'm certain they said the stadium and all the practice fields were redone while Riley was there. We didn't actually go outside on those two practice fields but we were in the indoor and outdoor on the main stadium turf and to my untrained eye they all seemed brand new. The outdoor grass field was the only one that looked a little strained but it was March after all.

Nebraska basketball presser at 1:30. Probably to announce the hiring of a new Asst. Coach, but four different media guys are questioning if that's all that's being announced.
-
The hubbub is likely because Gates hasn't even been at Florida a month in a similar position. There's a number of articles doing damage prevention out there covering this...and frankly, Gates seems like a good hire for our team and a good step towards achieving competence two years in a row.
That, and I can't imagine Florida is happy with Nebraska at all. In the past six months we:
- Hired their #1 Head Football coaching candidate out from under them (contrary to what they claim)
- Skunked their Women's Volleyball team for our fifth National Championship in the sport
- Hired a good assistant coach away from them after being on the job for around a month (though if there's validity to the stories of Gates not being happy, then some of that is on Florida)
Not too shabby.

Guise, I just had the best root canal I've ever had in my life. So good.

Nebraska's going to retire Sarah Pavan's number at a match this year. She's the best individual player I think we've ever had, so that's fitting.

According to Huskers.com, Tanner Lee is the first Husker to be drafted as a Quarterback in 21 years. The last one?
Scott Frost - 1997
-
1983 is known as the QB draft. Six first rounders: John Elway, Todd Blackledge, Jim Kelly, Tony Eason, Ken O'Brien and Dan Marino. Husker Trivia: What NU QB was drafted in 1983? He was a starter in the NFL for a while. LINK

Full Spring Game video is up in the OP of the 2018 Season.
I left the condensed version there as well. Never hurts to have both.

So, uh... Nebraska just lost to UNO for the first time in 21 years. A 13-19 UNO squad.
That's a problem.

@Comfortably Numb This one type of baseball loss hasn't happened in two decades, though. It's old enough to drink.
