You get a 2 year contract at 1.5 million. You get paid 1.5 million next year then the staff gets fired and you get your buyout money and if you are a decent coach you get another job plus buyout money. Seems like a pretty good idea to me. This is basically how we got hooked up with Bo Pelini. 1 Quote Link to comment

I wish all of us could have that type of deal. I don't feel sorry for any of the coaches that have these kind of P5 contracts. Hire/Fire is a part of the job and they get paid very well for playing in that kind of market. Quote Link to comment

He could have said no - forced Trev's hand and potentially walk away with $20m. Was it: reputation - didn't want "Fired Coach" on his resume Was it: Belief in himself that he could turn the situation around and that desire was greater than the lost of $$s Was it Pressure/Threat - Trev saying we drop the threat of firing you with cause due to the NCAA extra practice infraction IF you agree to a restructured contract? Was it pure love of Nebraska - recognizing he hasn't performed, humbled himself to take less, and believe it would be less of a crisis for the program if he accepted the stepdown contract and make the needed changes to the program? Harbaugh did the same thing last year. No one knows why. Didn't want to admit defeat I guess. Quote Link to comment

Whoever comes here is going to get a nice pay day and if they can make it work they should have some good job security for years to come. Most of these coaches have some arrogance and think they are the smartest and best there is. I don't think most of them are sitting back saying I will fail if I go to Nebraska so I better find an easier job. No, I would bet most are saying I am going to cash in on that pay day and make a name for myself getting that offense rolling. Quote Link to comment

However, If the boosters don't want to pony up to pay the $20m buyout then Trev's hands were tied and he got the best deal possible. If Frost fails and we have to go through 1 more year of purgatory caused by the sin of firing Frank, I think we will be in a better position to land a good coach as there are a lot of high profile openings already out there with more to come. NU may have been down the list on the pecking order. Got to hope forcing Frost's hand to deliver will make this a successful turnaround. It is all hope at this point and no koolaid It will start with who he picks as OC and assistant coaches to show if that hope is based on sand or rock. Am with you in every way in that share. HANC
As pointed out on a few radio shows, no where is it stated that this is a 1 years trial. We all are just assuming that. If it is another "non-bowl", I believe everyone will concede that it is over. If he goes 6-6, then jury is out. A lot of people will say 6-6 isn't good enough, yet some will be so thrilled to get back to a bowl, it will be improvement. It may be "bowl or bust", but anything beyond that is just pure speculation that this is a 1 year trial. Quote Link to comment
teachercd
I actually see this is a good gig for an AC The expectations are low, pretty much make a bowl game and you are back. Recruiting is the best in the west Support is the best in the west 1 Quote Link to comment

Does anybody really believe that they were calling the shots and not Frost? If so, Frost is a worse head coach than thought. Not a good leader at all. was it the assistants that passed on the bowl game and made the decision to break ncaa rules? Glad to know you have the Husker’s best interests top of mind. Seems genuine and not trollish at all. Is there any other advice CyHawk would like to offer? 2 Quote Link to comment

Hilltop
No wonder SI is failing. Regardless of topic, this guy is a terrible writer. Reminds me of rookie journalists who post to Bleacher Report trying to get a job. 1 Quote Link to comment
