  1. No wonder Tanner threw so many INTs, the defense could hear the football coming.

  3. Hi, @1994 Husker First, thanks for your service! I've been to any Fan Days over the years, and like @Enhance said, I've posted pictures of many of them here. Depending on my schedule I'll do it again this year as well. They change the format just about every year, but in general the field is laid out like this, from 2010: You have your position groups in various parts of the field, lines snake around the field for each group, and it's very difficult to get through more than two groups in the 90 minutes allotted for Fan Day. Like others have said, the line for the Head Coach is very long, stretching the length of the field every year. The two lines down the center of the field in this 2010 photo are for Bo (one line) and for the assistant coaches (the other line). You wouldn't, for example, be able to get through both of these lines in 90 minutes. The crowd is a little sparse in this picture, but that is not the norm. Usually the field is chock full of people, like in this 2014 photo for Bo's final year when fan interest was waning again: I took that picture from the West Stadium where the Freshmen usually sit. If you're going, and you want to get some early autographs, that line isn't usually as long because most folks don't know the Freshmen sit up there. The lines are ALWAYS long to get in, because only four gates are open (one on each corner of the stadium, usually). People arrive hours early and wait in line. It's tough on kids, and it's helpful if you have two adults available - one to watch the kids and one to run for food/drinks while waiting to get in. Here's the line in the north parking lot waiting to get into Gate #3 (top left corner of the diagram above) from 2015: Like most people are saying, expect this to be the craziest, and longest line for the Head Coach that we've seen in... probably forever. While the line usually goes the length of the field, sometimes it doubles back and is longer than 100 yards. It will easily be that long this year, and probably much longer. If you want to get Coach Frost's autograph, odds are good that is the only one you'll get. And unless you get there really early, it's very possible that you could wait in that line the entire time and still not get his autograph.

  4. If we were talking about professional sports that are businesses designed to create profits, then I'd agree with you. But we're talking about universities that are supposed to be about learning. How is a revenue metric even relevant for a university? An equally valid question is: why not eliminate revenue in university sports? Answer: because it provides funds for additional learning opportunities outside the specific sport making money. That's how you end up talking about fairness and equality - fairness and equality in opportunity of education. If we're not talking about sports in the university as part of education and learning, then split those sports out as minor league teams and let them profit or fold as a business.

  9. Ah yes, the old "my point is obviously true, it's you who needs to go research why I'm right." But it's easy to refute your claim, so here's the first link in a google search (bolded in quote to refute that your claim that boys are somehow ignored in school): Boys vs. girls: What's behind the college grad gender gap?

  10. Phillips made a point to say that NU’s done a good job of recruiting in-state players. But he also said that “if Nebraska had offered me six months ago, I probably wouldn’t have made that trip to Stanford in the first place.” But NU didn’t. So Phillips took the trip. And he’ll attend Stanford. (from 2015) http://www.omaha.com/huskers/blogs/recruiting-harrison-phillips-picks-stanford-over-nebraska-k-state/article_6d2f6fa0-083c-5130-86b2-e7724482f3db.html IMHO, I do not think kids like this will be leaving for lack of or a late offer from Frost and Co. They might go elsewhere, but not from lack of a timely offer....

  11. The man speaks the truth. Just be prepared for the aftermath.... Lazlo's or Fireworks are favorites anytime I come back home (same owners for both). The Oven has great Indian food and a nice cocktail bar downstairs. Leadbelly's is an awesome American Bistro with good burgers (Raspberry Beret, get it!) The Wateringhole opned up another location in the Haymarket, great grilled wings. Hiro 88 has good sushi Those are the one I can think of when I was back for Christmas...

  12. Dunno. Depends on what Moos has set in his mind for criteria. If Miles needed to make the NCAA tourney to keep his job safe, he most likely didn’t do that. Yes we had substantial improvement, but history shows that won’t be sustained next year. Frankly, I’m to where I am indifferent about giving Miles another season. We’ve been flirting with competence under Miles but whenever the big games happen, we typically show little in the way of preparation, progress, or a positive/loose mindset. Don’t know that Miles has the basketball mind to make the improvements necessary for sustained success. It’s as if Miles is a much nicer version of Bo Pelini—he can build up win totals and occasionally steal a game from a better team, but when the spotlight is on the team, they usually crap the bed (unless we’re at home). Bottom line: Nebraska basketball and its fans deserve measured, sustained progress and a coach that can make the adjustments and win the big games away from home. I don’t think we have that, sadly.

  14. Re: the last bit, I agree. She was creeped out not only because he was toting when he said it, but also just the generally hyper-aggressive machismo with which this guy presented himself the entire night. I don't think it's a coincidence that there is a ton of overlap between guys who carry themselves this way & those that feel it's acceptable to bark suggestions at women about how to behave. I'd imagine the Venn diagram is roughly... one circle. But honestly, the NRATV thing is increasingly distressing to me. I noticed the way they were trending back before the 2016 election. It's fair to mention that they above clip is specifically trying to promote a new "show" (one that I hope draws approximately 4 viewers and not a single one more). But what strikes me a lot about the NRA online promotions: Not ONE mention in that clip about guns. They've put out a lot like that recently. For instance, using Orwellian, combative language like "strike back with the clenched fist of truth" and "your time is running out." Seriously? They're overlaying this crap on top of Spaghetti Western showdown music. They're not hocking guns here. They're selling a cultural identity. The NRA has become a bunch of culture warriors in how they hock their message. It's to their tremendous benefit to play the "Us vs. Them" card as much as possible to get people in a tribal, angry, aggrieved, standoffish move. Suddenly it's become the "oppressed, righteous, god-fearing, red-white-and-blue, patriotic gun owners vs. the evil Other that wishes to crush them." Really, I'm just a guy who just wishes our country were safer. I don't want to oppress or marginalize anybody. But it's not convenient for the NRA to sell that vision. Identity politics has become a primary tool for them, as much as they bemoan it. Here's a Vox piece Howard Dean retweeted earlier, & I happen to think it hits this nail on the head.

  17. Spring Schedule: First Practice: Friday, March 16, 6-8 AM Practices will be Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30-10:05 AM from March 27-April 19 Saturday practices on March 31, April 7 & April 14 Last Pre-Spring-Game practice on Friday, April 20, 4:30-6:00 PM Spring Game - Saturday, April 21 @ 11 AM Final Spring Practice - Monday, April 23 Notes: Tuesday/Thursday practices are earlier than they did at UCF but they're trying to go early enough to not have too many class conflicts. Still working on what they'll do in the fall. Other schools have had a "clean-up" practice after the Spring Game but Nebraska has not. Gives a chance to go over what happened in the Spring Game. But it sounds like the main reason for it is the timeframe between Spring Break and April 21. Frost wanted the Spring Game on April 28 but couldn't get it to work. So they had to have one practice before Spring Break and one practice after the Spring Game to make it work.

  18. Re: Griffin. Kind of a long read, but here's Griffin's letter to NFL GM's. https://www.theplayerstribune.com/shaquem-griffin-ucf-nfl-draft-letter-to-general-managers/ What struck me is that when he was 8, an opposing coach tried to keep him off the field because football was for players with TWO hands. (He eventually was allowed to play and had the game sealing interception). also - how sad is it that we are discussing another team's player in the combine, since ours aren't all that?

  19. For BBQ you want Phat Jack's on West O. Best in the state. D'Leon's is good, but if you want a breakfast burrito, you want The Lincoln. Redux is right, the West O location is the original and best. All of them are owned by the same family, but some are owned by the brother's side and are slightly different. All are good. For breakfast, the Green Gateau downtown is good, especially on Sunday, but there's also Cooks Cafe, Penelopes Little Cafe, and (for a greasy spoon), Hiway Diner on Highway 2. There are tons of pub joints in the Haymarket and all are fine. Vincenzo's in the Haymarket is probably Lincoln's best Italian food. A lot of it depends on what you're hungry for.

"He's now president for life. President for life. No, he's great," Trump said. "And look, he was able to do that. I think it's great. Maybe we'll have to give that a shot some day."

  24. If I recall, didn't he decommit from Ohio State because he didn't like how they were going to use him in their offense, and came here because we were going to use him like a prototypical NFL wide receiver? Maybe that's the reason he could be looking to transfer if he is actually looking

  25. Yes, but how many Nebraska fans are message board nerds like most of us on here. It was a good series to give details to the average fan, and try to pump some life blood into their subscription service.

  26. I always want the Huskers to win. I think our schedule the last couple years has been put together to help Miles out. Those two things aren't mutually exclusive. Are you going to propose an RPI metric for the Sweet 16? I'll help you out - last year all of the Sweet 16 teams were in the top 30 in the RPI.

  27. Maybe, maybe not. Looks like they still COULD have been in the Top 30. Depends on how everyone finishes. I've seen a couple guys on Twitter bemoaning the same thing. Which does stink for us - that our best win is so marginal that it's barely good enough to be good. But others are trying to use it as evidence of a flaw in the system. Which of course it isn't. It's how math works. And it's because the only RPI that matter is the one at the end of the year after all games have been played. So the fact that it can change as the season goes along shouldn't be surprising to people. And it's kind of odd to me that so many seem to be surprised by that.

  32. It's the difference between formal and informal address for me. When I'm introducing my boss to someone in a formal setting, It's "This is my boss, Robert Debondehaven." But when I'm introducing him to someone in a familiar setting, it's, "This is my boss, Bob." Nebraska Cornhuskers is the formal name, what you should lead the article or broadcast with. After that, Huskers is OK. If an announcer uses "Cornhuskers" all game long it seems unnecessarily formal, as if we're not part of the club, outsiders. It always made me feel like they were talking about their buddy, someone personable and approachable, when they call us Huskers after the game starts. It always seemed like Keith Jackson would revert to calling us the Huskers as the game wore on.

  33. Yikes! I understand your point, but please never put Frost on the same level as MR. Frost inherited a 0-12 team, and was a first time HC. Winning 6 games was very good. MR would have found a way to have a record worse than 0-12. I believe it will take time to recover from the mess MR, SE and their accomplices left behind, maybe all we get is six wins this year, but it will be a momentum building year ... I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

  34. This is kind of a weird issue/debate to me. Samuel vs. Sam Terrapins vs. Terps Cornhuskers vs. Huskers It's a shortened version for the same thing. Fans aren't being untrue to themselves by saying "Huskers."

  36. Reducing or eliminating SNAP in favor of a mail delivery food box from the government is going to crush the corner markets within poorer communities. When those markets are forced to close it will eliminate one of the few sources of jobs in those areas. Ben Carson should soundly be against this proposed change.
