  1. When you're so far right of center, anything to the left of you is "liberal." There was literally a thread on this board less than two years ago where some of the more right-wing members wanted a section of the board of their very own where they could post without any "liberals" countering their opinions with facts. There has never been such a thread from the self-avowed liberals. The problem with the ultra-right posters on this board is they want to fight fact with emotion. Or, in some extreme cases, fight fact with untruths. Our good, honest, dyed-in-the-wool conservatives have no such problems because they allow facts to form their opinions. BRB, TGH, JJ, and a couple others whose names are escaping me right now (sorry) are excellent at this. Of course, like jsneb83 said, most people here are moderates, but they're conflated with liberals by some people who lack perspective. So it goes.

  2. As someone who IS transgender, I really don't give a damn if you think I am "mentally ill." Your opinion of me, being trans, and how I live my life, matters naught. And citing DSM-5? So what. Transgender, as a research topic, isn't well known or explored. Being trans is a topic that is just now being researched. And those same "experts" who classify being trans as a mental illness once said the exact same thing about being gay. That has since been changed/debunked. And so I think maybe some of those "experts" saying being trans is a mental illness might also be religious bigots and/or idiots who insert their own personal opinion in lieu of real factual knowledge or insight.

  3. There is no metric that can be done for the amount Scott Frost brings to Nebraska. A new coach actually hurts you in the FPI ratings. Frost > Riley

  4. Here's the text of the letter that Elizabeth Warren was trying to read into the record before Republicans silenced her. As she noted, this letter was submitted into the record in 1986. Apparently, since 1986, it's become too dangerous to admit such things.

  7. I've found it interesting, upon learning more that this "caravan" that folks are going crazy about right now is actually an annual trip. That they travel in a group for safety and that they peel off at various cities along the way. The number actually shooting to make it to the US is ~500 or less. Funny how this wasn't an issue (that I recall anyway) last year. Guess maybe it's a good time for a distraction from personal issues here with leadership right now ...

  8. Another thing Held wants to get across to his running backs is to “beat the little guy” — the voice inside their head telling them they’re tired. Held said he wants to be able to ride guys for eight or nine plays consecutively, but that can only happen when conditioning is improved. I'm guessing the bold will go for all the skill guys on O. No one play tapout.............What an awesome concept. Probably reading into this, but sounds like the coaches are insinuating the guys are "soft" and really to get mentally stronger.

  13. Neither does being 50 and only reading a few articles from a news outlet of choice.....which seems to cover a lot of the people I run into. These kids are just as entitled to an opinion as you or I. If you don't agree, that's fine; join the club with millions of others. But my issue is people demeaning these kids and calling them clueless. I'm confident that they have compiled more knowledge on gun policy than most adults.

  14. You think otherwise? Did you miss or ignore the countless examples of outright racist and bigoted treatment towards him and his family? Did you miss the time his wife was referred to as a 'gorilla?' Not only are there countless articles on the topic, but there are also several books that document eight years of the nonsense. Trump, conversely, is largely being judged by his words and actions. That's not to say he has never been the target of unfair treatment but we shouldn't try to throw a pity party for Trump as if he's a victim. That's incredibly disingenuous.

  15. That's a tricky question. All 3 were pretty much perfect for the time and conditions they played in. Gill and Frost are pretty interchangeable IMO and I'm not sure any QB other than Crouch could've carried the 01 team virtually singlehandedly like he did. Would be interesting to see what he could do with a supporting cast like the other two had. Love all 3 of them so I'm not going to pick one. Shame on you @84HuskerLaw, dickish answer.

  16. Remember about a year ago...people were like "Oh my gosh, that Colorado game is going to be soooo tough" and now look...not so tough. What a fluke season they had two years ago. With that said Nebraska doesn't have a worthless coach with an unplugged headset anymore...they are not losing any non-conference games and they are not losing to NW, Purdue, Minny, Illinois or Iowa anymore.

  17. Heard Sip the other day, he said "Remember last year, we go to watch 6 practices in the spring and about 6 practices in the fall and no one came away saying that they think the team will be under .500...so I don't know how much it helps to watch practice" Or something close to that... He went on to say that since they have nothing to compare the team to that it really doesn't give them an idea of how good they might be and that is why he likes when the BTN guys come around because they can compare all the teams they get to watch in practice. I thought that was a good point.

  19. I will add to what Enhance said. Living in the Detroit metro I am blessed to hear both extreme conservative and extreme liberal radio stations, both are equally deplorable. NPR is about the most unbiased source of news on the radio. However even their local programming is a bit liberally slanted. People need to take their citizenship seriously. They need to consume multiple sources and multiple types of media. They need to understand that people like Limbaugh, Hannity, Maddow, Lemon ,etc. are dangerous for this country. They argue on emotions not facts.

  20. I won't begrudge you your views on how certain aspects of the media covered both presidents, however, I think we need to be very careful when using phrases like 'the media.' 'The media' is a diverse bunch ranging from national talk shows, local news shows, newspapers, bloggers, etc. Fox News and CNN are deplorable in my opinion, with Fox News being the worst of the two. They're both unreliable and far too coveting of themselves. More Americans should start actually reading again, and from a variety of sources, rather than paying attention to what shows up in their Facebook feeds and on TV. 'The media' is operated by humans whom are fallible and make mistakes, but there are a lot of great journalists and publications out there that far too often get blamed for others' mistakes and then get lumped into 'media' bashing.

  23. Republicans seem to be the party of hatred and intolerance. Does every Republican hate gays, trans, non-whites, non-christians, immigrants, etc? Of course not. But they too often remain silent while bigots like Huckabee, Pence, Falwell, and other "religious" people on the right say stuff that is bigoted. You're saying that cowboy from Texas is an outlier and I'm saying you missed my point entirely. Which is: There are Republicans who would commit genocide on my community if they thought they could get away with it. You asked me to prove that was true. I did by providing a link. Now you move the goalposts by demanding that I prove every single Republican thinks that way. Even if they did, I don't have the time or inclination to undertake such a project. Face it Ric, your party does have a very real current of bigotry running through it. To pretend otherwise is to ignore all evidence.

  27. I wouldn't say RD is a liberal. Liberals aren't tolerant to hate or people who aren't tolerant or are problematic. How can someone be tolerant of the LGBTQAI community and also be tolerant of Westboro baptist church? How can someone be tolerant of a racist yet claim they support the minority communities. Those are direct contradictions, so your idea of tolerance is a bit funny. Someone can't be tolerant of literally everything or they wouldn't have a view to begin with

  28. Play to the final whistle. Make each and every "tough" game a dogfight. We do those two things, the wins will eventually follow. The wins and losses this year really don't matter much to me. I just want to see competent football being played each and every game.

  30. I glanced through your articles. Several are “opinion pieces” which are not news articles. Others mention things they claim happened with no evidence. Not real great evidence anywhere in there other than doing a great job of showing how political propaganda works.

  31. Why do you act like this? Show me the evidence that Obama order it as you claim, or stop embarrassing yourself. I have never once watched Maddow, and I have watched far more Fox News than the few hours of MSNBC I have seen over my life.

  32. I do not believe this is a huge rebuild, rebuild yes- huge no. We have some good talent- we had a bad coach, with a bad scheme, poor conditioning and players quit on him last year. Does anyone really believe we are a 4 win talent team? We have had the best recruiting classes in our BIG division. So the talent must be there. Change in attitude, quality coach, modern scheme, players in shape- those things can do wonders. I saw something that said we have a 28% chance to beat Northwestern. Seriously are these people high. I dont care about a new scheme- no riley = better odds than last year. I am setting my expectation at 7-5 for the year. To be honest if we win a few more than that and have an 8 or 9 win season I wont be surprised because of the those factors I mentioned above. I know the schedule is tough- but I think we are ripe for a quick turnaround. I know the woah woah temper your expectations guys will jump all over this. But like I said my expectation is 7-5, but I wont be surprised if Scott Frost and these CORNHuskers surprise us with some solid play.

  35. Yeah I also imagine him being next to some inebriated loon who's complaining that we're not running the ball or using the fullback. Or how Scott Frost should be fired for calling a pass on 3rd and 1. I also might have too much time on my hands.

  36. I made this recipe for the first time awhile back and it is by far the best pork roast recipe I have ever made. The only thing I will do differently next time, is to cut the potatoes in half instead of chopping them. If I decided to make mash potatoes instead, I will make the potatoes separately on the stove so the mashed potatoes won't be brown. The gravy was delicious and I will make it this way from now on also. Crockpot Pork Roast With Vegetables & Gravy: Heat a large skillet up over medium high heat. Put 3 T. Olive Oil into the skillet. Take the pork roast and put it on a plate and sprinkle salt and freshly ground black pepper on the top/bottom/sides on the pork roast. Place the pork roast into the skillet and allow it to get a nice golden brown sear on both sides. While the pork is in the searing skillet, peel and chop 5-6 Russet Potatoes and one white onion. You want them to be uniform in size so they cook evenly. Spray a large crockpot with cooking spray. Place the seasoned pork roast in the crockpot and put baby carrots around the pork roast. *** I used a l-lb. bag of baby carrots, the recipe called for 3 cups. Layer the potatoes, onions on top of the pork roast; ***I added 1 bunch of fresh garlic, chopped. Chop 1 T. garlic and put it in a small bowl. Add 1/4 cup of soy sauce, 1/4 cup Newman's Own Balsamic Vinaigrette-(couldn't find that so used Newman's Own Lite Balsamic Vinaigrette), 1/2 cup water/used bottled water/and 1/2 cup brown sugar. Whisk the ingredients together making sure the brown sugar gets dissolved, then pour it all over the top of the potatoes. Sprinkle the potatoes with some salt and ground black pepper. Cover the crockpot. The recipe said to cook it on high for 4-5 hours or if your crockpot cooks quickly, cook the meat and sauce together for 4 hours, then add the vegetables and cook for an additional 2 hours. I just cooked it on high to get it going and then lowered it to low because I got a late start. Next time, I will start it at 6 or so a.m. and let it cook on low the whole time, because we usually eat late. When the pork roast has cooked through, I turned the crockpot off to let the pork roast and let the meat set with the lid on for 5-10 minutes before serving. The pork roast is very tender and you won't need a knife to cut it. To a medium saucepan, I put 2 pkgs. McCormick Pork Gravy Mix, 1/4 cup milk, 1/4 cup bottled water, 1 can cream of mushroom soup-(undiluted)-ground black pepper; whisk to combine and cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until heated through. Serve the pork roast and vegetables drizzled with gravy over the top.

  37. Again, labeling things you fail to understand. I said I have watched far more Fox news than MSNBC. Do you need me to explain how watching more of one channel compared to another doesn't determine my political allegiances? How about you stop applying labels and appreciate that things aren't black and white, patriotic or treasonous. And I'll take your last statement as an admission that you can not actually provide any evidence that Obama order any of that.

  39. I made a new burrito recipe and they turned out great. Beef & Bean Burrito: ***Adjust Amounts According To How Much Hamburger You Are Using & To Your Taste Hamburger Diced White Onions Garlic, Chopped McCormick Burrito Seasoning Refried Beans Shredded Cheddar Cheese Pace Hot Chunky Salsa Ortega Diced Green Chiles Burrito Sized Flour Tortillas Opt. Toppings: Lettuce Shredded Cheddar Cheese Diced White Onions Sour Cream Sliced Black Olives Guacamole Sliced Avocados Pace Hot Chunky Salsa Brown hamburger with diced white onions and chopped garlic; drain grease. Season hamburger mixture with McCormick Burrito Seasoning; stir. Add Ortega Diced Green Chiles & Pace Hot Chunky Salsa; stir. Heat Refried Beans & Shredded Cheddar Cheese-(to taste)-on low heat in pan until cheese is melted. Spread Refried Beans with Shredded Cheddar Cheese over each flour tortilla, using a knife sprayed with Pam. Spread hamburger mixture over Refried Beans. Fold over ends of the tortilla; roll up Place burritos in a pan that has been sprayed with Pam. Cover pan with aluminum foil =(if you prefer)-and bake at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes or until heated through. Serve burritos plain or top with the toppings listed above or your favorite toppings. I like to put salsa over the toppings and add some more shredded cheddar cheese on top of it. ***I used 2 cans of Refried Beans, 2 pkgs. McCormick Burrito Seasoning and a whole jar of Salsa plus more Salsa on top of toppings.

  41. I think we have one additional trump card in our hand that most are forgetting to factor in to the coming season and the one after that. Tom Osborne has been seen making his presence felt in and around the football offices, etc and certainly is quite proud of Scott Frost and all indications are he supports everything he is doing. His advice, counsel, suggestions, etc have got to be invaluable in the effort to revive Husker fball. TO has forgotten more about college football than the commentators etc of ESPN will likely ever know. His aid and comfort are surely worth a couple wins in a couple of the close ones. We are hearing the team is actually getting in much better physical shape and this will add a great deal of confidence and help the physical matchups against the bottom half of the schedule certainly. Assuming the general reporting is relatively accurate, the team is doing well and learning and making the effort to get better. We won't be world beaters but we are going to be a lot harder for the middle of the road teams to push around. A 7-5 record ought to be very reasonable and 8 or 9 winse is not all that unreasonable. And a team that ge. ts a few wins gains confidence and can believe in itself enough to pull an upset or two vs teams with the talent edge. Last year was very disappointing to me and I expected much better. I see no reason to think this team can't be better than last year's team. Being an optimist, I will say we win no less than 9!

  42. I don’t think anyone would deny complaining about their job, but less percentage of people go to social media to rant over it because just like no one cares about anyone else’s fantasy team or bracket, no one else cares about the nuances of someone else’s job. The origination of the topic comes from a tweet about people speaking on/off the record, she’s a reporter, why not ask the sources why they insist on being off the record instead complaining to twitter that your sources suck.
