  1. I'm making a new drinking game - drink every time Sam whines that he didn't get to watch practice.

  2. I wasn't sure where to put this, but i found this youtube video posted elsewhere -- a couple of FSU fans breaking down some of UCF plays vs USF, and really gushing over Frost, calling him the best of the new hires (even over Taggart, their 'new guy'.). Comparing him to Urban Meyer -- "No one could tell WHY Urban was going to be successful, they just knew he was going to be". Anyway - if you have ~40 minutes, enjoy this video. I thought it was great.

  3. Hard to say. But at this particular moment — with Donald Trump having an extremely private meeting with Vladimir Putin tomorrow — it's pretty easy to say that everything Putin would have wanted from Trump's election is coming to pass.

  4. In a purely socialistic system maybe not as much, but that's really not what Cortez, or anyone else is proposing. Democratic socialism still leaves plenty of room for the same small minority of people who got rich using capitalism to succeed. They may not to the extreme degree were seeing now, and they would have to contribute more back to the greater good of this country, but the incentive is still there.. Democratic Socialism does however do a much better job of providing a safe, dignified , happy life to millions of people who go to work every day. Capitalism really doesn't.

  6. My girlfriend was listening to a podcast this morning discussing the concepts of socialism vs. capitalism in the American economy. They made a really good point which is similar to the thoughts I had reading through this thread. People like to argue about whether an American capitalist or, for some more recently, socialist economy would be better for us as a country. The truth is the economy is ultimately mixed - it's got aspects of both. They said we thrived from the middle of the 20th century up until about Reagan because both beasts were well-fed. Well, since then, they've done their best at starving the socialist side of the equation. Only Obama since then tried to stimulate it at all with the ACA and a lot of people think that was a compromise half-measure. But its not like most, if any, of these more socialist-style programs would just be straight giveaways. I think it's fair to put to rest concerns about welfare queens and lazy people who won't work. Most of our socialist programs now already have similar checks on them. You have to be 65 to get Medicare. You've got to be in your 60s to collect Social Security. You've got to prove financial hardship and/or be looking for work OR working to get unemployment or Medicaid. I've always found the complaints about people cheating the system a bit overstated. Similar checks would be implemented with new programs as well. It's simply impossible, short of a Dem supermajority in both houses of Congress, for such programs to pass without fiscal conservatives having some input, meaning those checks will be in play. These programs may wind up being more targeted than Dem Socialists like AOC may care for; regardless, they would still represent massive steps forward for progressivism in the U.S.

  7. I think we can safely say it's more than a feeling at this point. The media was allotted approximately 30 minutes to view the team all spring, a far cry from last season (and Riley's mentality) which allowed for heavy media coverage and let reporters watch full practices with regularity. I think there are pros and cons to both but I personally prefer the more reserved method that Frost (and even Pelini) implemented. I think the fan base sometimes needs to be protected from itself. We don't need to know everything all the time and practices should be a place for kids to fail and learn rather than worry about some reporter tweeting out all their dropped passes.

  10. Gill Phillips Fryar 94 OL 95 D This would be my optimum but you really can’t go wrong. All the OL and Def are better than anything we’ve seen for awhile. And Gill for $2 and Phillips for $3....c’mon, make it a challenge.

  13. Why are you complaining about something when you don't know much at all about the something? UCF was ranked 71st in pass to run ratio last year. 46.6% of their offensive plays were passes.

  15. Was this sarcasm? I couldn't tell. You've got the saying wrong first of all, it's "no news is good news." We could be hearing about arrests, hospitalizations, fights, etc. No news seems more like they are focused and aren't exactly looking for attention right now. I like it. I'd much rather go into the season underrated than overrated. Also, I like to hear team news, but I completely understand the desire to push all the reporters out for awhile. The coaches have work to do and they don't need unnecessary distractions.

  16. Happening right now. Whether there was collusion or not, there can no longer be a denial that the Russians influenced the 2016 election. If this had happened and Clinton had won, the Russians would have disclosed it to cast doubt on the legitimacy of her presidency. But since Trump won, there's been no such claim. I wonder why...

  17. Give a read to the definition of democratic socialism - the short answer to your question is yes. Incentive is increased (or not) based on increased productivity. edit: posted this before I scrolled through and saw Big Red 40's Democratic Socialism comments - he nailed it.

  24. Also true. But we can't have common decency and treating everyone with a basic level of courtesy, dignity, and respect though...that's the devil's socialism talking there.

  25. @Clifford Franklin, you are correct...America has never truly been a purely capitialist country. Right now America is a hodge-podge of socialism, crony capitalism, and corporate welfare. Of those three, the latter two are viewed as good and somehow the first is viewed as bad. Why is that? It's because 90%+ of all wealth flowing up to the top 5% is viewed as good. Conversely, when wealth flows down to the people who actually work to make it happen, that is somehow "bad" and/or "wrong." Again, most of society never criticizes a rich person for demanding ever higher profits. But as soon as those at the bottom demand a wage they can live on--that's somehow outrageous and unacceptable. SMH.

  26. Iceland looked good for one quarter then it got ugly again. Thor had 7 points 4 boards & 5 assists in 26 minutes. Picked up three early fouls. The team looked much better wwith him on the floor. Iceland is one of the worst free throw shooting teams I've ever seen. Between that & missed layups it's hard to keep the score close. I think he has a chance to play this year, of course it's hard to judge the competition. He seems to have figured out defensive concepts and does go right some of the time. He won't play a lot but I could see him getting 10 minutes per game. He's actually a pretty good passer.

  28. I remember posts from UConn fans and maybe some ND fans too...they told us how Bobby was nuts, they said to get ready for no pressure on the QB, get ready for WR's catching 10 yard passes all day, get ready for post game comments that were filled with excuses and crazy talk. I also remember a lot of Husker fans shouting those guys down over and over.

  29. 1982 OL ... $1 2009 DL ... $4 QB Scott Frost ... $3 RB Ameer Abdullah ... $2 WR Johnny Rodgers ... $5 I agree with @NUance, the 1982 OL is the steal of this deal for the reasons he outined. And then the 2009 DL with Suh, that is easily worth 4 bucks.I decided to splurge on Johnny Rodgers for 5 bucks because he is not only a stud WR, but has additional value in the punt return game. And finally, Ameer and Scott round out my selections because they were (and still are) two of the hardest workers and you know they'll always bring the max effort.

  30. $2 Turner Gill $3 Lawrence Phillips $5 Johnny Rodgers $1 1982 O-line $4 2009 defense Note: The 1982 O-line at $1 is the best bargain on the board. Including TE, the '82 O-line had an Outland winner and All American (Remington), a 3rd Team All American (OT Randy Theis) and an Honorable Mention All American (TE Jaime Williams). Of the six positions (including TE) four were All Conference that year. /imho

  32. Shutdown Fullcast did a show about the Big Ten West. And which team did they focus on? The Huskers, of course. Because no other team is as interesting, charming, or drives as nice of a car as Nebraska. Obligatory NSFW language warning. They describe Nebraska as a secretive American inner sanctum, much like Wakanda. They dub us "Wacornda" and I think I'm stealing this line and claiming it's my own at parties. Also, they describe Hawkeye from The Avengers as "The only superhero who skips arm day."
