  1. This is Thailand's best team - not the point. This is the world's highest level of competition in this sport - not the point. There were no penalties administered for excessive celebration - not the point. The Americans were living out their childhood dreams of scoring in the World Cup - not the point. Teams throughout the recorded history of sports celebrate scores - not the point. I am all ears - what is "the point?"

  2. So Thailand, who made it to the World Cup, through qualifying rounds and friendlies, is analogous to a D2 school playing a money game in early September. Not seeing that. Your better analogy would be 1995 Nebraska trouncing Florida, up by several touchdowns, and Christian Peter dances into the end zone on a fumble recovery. All of Nebraska celebrated with him (even though the TD was called back). Now we're supposed to be upset that these players celebrated too much after fulfilling a lifelong dream? I'm more upset Thailand didn't play better. What they put on the pitch was more offensive to the sport than anything the Americans did.

  3. But what if next time it's the Saudi's providing info to the Trump campaign specifically so they can get their hands on more nuclear tech? Or the Iranians offering whatever they could find from Trump's kids phished personal email account to the Dem candidate so the US doesn't bomb the s#!t out of them. I'm not so naive as to believe it doesn't already happen to some extent but I'm really bothered by the idea of it happening so freely.

  6. Here's the deal on this with me. I honestly don't have that much of a problem with a foreign country's intelligence community coming to a candidate with information on an opponent......as long as the information wasn't gathered by breaking US laws. The fact that Russia contacted Trump's campaign with information isn't the bad thing. The bad thing is that when Trump's campaign found out what it was and that it was gathered by illegally hacking into Hillary's computers....THEN....Trump supported them leaking the documents and did everything he could to prevent an investigation into it. THAT is what I have a huge problem with. Russia did something illegal in the US. Trump supports them doing that illegal act because it benefited him personally.

  8. Zero problem with either the score or the joy after the score. This is the World Cup, the highest level of competition in the sport. Thailand qualified to be there, they weren't just handed a spot. If you're good enough to make it there, you're good enough to put up a fight. Scoring a goal in the World Cup is what every one of these women dreamed of growing up. It's a lifelong goal. They get a goal and they're just supposed to... what? Mope around and not celebrate? Melvin Gordon ran for 408 yards on Nebraska in about three quarters of work, and he celebrated every touchdown, every first down, with cheers and high-fives with his teammates. If we didn't want him doing that, we should have stopped him. Our guys are on scholarship, too.

  13. I could have my mind changed, but conservative ideas and lessening the human impact on the climate don't seem to go hand in hand. All I hear is lower taxes, remove taxes, deregulate. The vast majority of companies are not going to voluntarily regulate themselves or pay a bunch of money to help with climate change.

  14. Free speech does not extend to speech that violates the law. I swear, these people must think any time they whip out the word "constitutional" people are just going to buy it wholesale.

  15. I was under the impression that we might still look for a linebacker transfer as we had spots open. But apparently that's not the case. While we still have three scholarships available, we have now reached our hard cap of 30 new scholarship players for this cycle which counts transfers into that number. I knew there were some limits on that but I didn't realize they are now counting transfers into that number. So we are what we are for this year. I'm sure three walk-ons will get the available scholarships but we won't be adding anyone else.

  21. It's a slippery slope if you're ok with foreign governments giving information to campaigns for some reasons and not others. Never mind, it's not. If there's something that your own staff is unable to find out during "oppo research" then I'd bet a ton of money that it's not to be had in normal, fact checking (ie LEGAL) ways. If a foreign government has to be the one to hand over it's been obtained in a way that is not legal in the US. There is no gray area. The day we allow foreign countries with interests in impacting our elections do so the people of this country lose all power. Think your vote means nothing now because you're a dem in a red state or vice versa? Think about how much less it will matter when Norway is helping your local congressperson win much less the president. Because not only are they turning over the bad stuff on candidate x (which may or may not be true) but they're also hiding the bad stuff on candidate y, their candidate so they can be elected. There are very, very few countries out there that would do this in an effort to do right be the US. Give me UK, maybe AUS - but still, as soon as there is a leadership or regime change who says we can trust them? Once you allow this you can't take it back.

  22. Really liked his visit here. Word is he's really interested in playing early and he's looking at the numbers at Ohio State and Penn State and wondering if he could get on the field more quickly here. Visiting Penn State and Ohio State the next two weekends. Looking to decide next month.

  29. This is the debate that I want to see. I'm so sick and tired of one side preaching about climate change while the other side (funded by fossil fuel industries) does everything to convince people it's not happening. I want to see both sides come to the table with plans of action and different ideas that can be looked at and debated. Just because the Dems are preaching climate change, doesn't mean their ideas are the best ideas that can be drawn up. But, if the Repubs continue down the same path they have been on, they aren't even going to be at the table to help formulate what should be done and how.

  32. Let me get this straight. You provided a case that deals with searches at schools. I then stated that this particular case deals with juveniles. You then state I couldn't be sure of that. I then provide proof that it did using the link you provided. Now your comeback is about case law? I think you've forgotten what the subject was. Wandale is not a juvenile and the officer could not have searched his car without either PC that drugs were in the car or Wandale's permission to search. The post about reasonable suspicion being enough to search the car is total crappola. My guess is Wandale is a nice kid and told the officer the weed was in his car. There's your PC for the search.

  35. Marijuana, alcohol, what ever. I'm kind of one that feels 'what ever floats your boat and doesn't hurt me" is fine. BUT...I do believe in rules. This whole thing boils down to rules, and whether a kid follows them or chooses to not follow them. They are kids. Let the law give them the first penalty, fine or what ever. Lecture them sternly and let them know just one more infraction and there will be no discussion. You are off the team for a year. Third infraction, you are gone for good. Hate to make a pun, but this is the kind of problem that Frost needs to nip in the 'bud'.

  36. GOP is offering the GREEN REAL DEAL. Many (ok some) in the GOP coming to their senses on this issue and are trying to support conservative measures to fight climate change. I think in reality they hear the footsteps of voters concerned with this issue heading towards the Dem camp - esp the younger generations. https://www.wsj.com/articles/some-republican-lawmakers-break-with-party-on-climate-change-11560337010

  37. Very glad we are out of the Big 12. For the year after we announced we were leaving the Big 12 the Tulsa World's sports editor wrote derogatory stories about Nebraska whenever he could. Often stories about our final games in the Big 12 were scarcely covered. I counted it as sour grapes until one column in which he called Nebraska cry babies. I had enough and I wrote the following to the editor and sent it to the sports editor as well. The 2nd quote box below with the historical time line I copied perhaps from a poster here on HB - can't remember where I got it. But I sent that to the sports editor as well. I don't believe I saw another critical article from him again.

With all these manipulated videos a foreign adversary could easily destabilize another nation by using all these new softwares to manipulate voices and faces... This s#!t is scary real now.
