  5. I think 8-4 would show good progress and I'd be happy with that part of it. It would be at least somewhat successful. But I'm pretty sure I'd still be a bit disappointed. With how we were playing in the second half last year and how our schedule sets up this year, we'd have to lose pretty much all the big games to "only" be 8-4 (or get a big win but also blow a game we should win against a lesser opponent). I can't imagine anyone being happy with a loss to USA, NIU, Illinois, Indiana or Maryland. That's five. And most would think we should probably have every chance to beat Colorado, Northwestern, Minnesota and Purdue if we play well. That's already nine so we'd (probably) be losing one of those game and also losing to each of Ohio State, Wisconsin and Iowa. Yes, that's progress from the last two years and progress is some form of success but I think it would still feel a bit hollow to most.

  6. The Pelini factor. Is 9 wins ultimately good or is it not good? Who did you lose to? Did you lose 24-21 in overtime, or did you lose 62-3? Did you beat any of your "rivals"? Did you lose a close game because you played your best and were beaten by a better team, or did you lose because you turned the ball over four times in your own territory and killed a potential game winning drive with multiple procedure penalties? We know the record is always the first thing people look at, but how you arrive at that record says a lot too.

  8. I'm totally happy with three or more running backs of differing abilities competing for snaps. Then we can argue who is best and deserves more snaps. Great problem to have.

  14. So did Austin Allen. Warner talked about increasing his quickness and ability to get open. Very nice to see guys addressing their weaknesses instead of complaining about playing time. In this offense if you can play, Frost will find a way.

  16. Dude, this is exactly how I feel. Also, I'm not afraid to expect more because I don't have to worry that an 8 or 9 win year (or even lower, yeesh) would mean going through a coaching change. Frost is safe, and it gives me a feeling of safety to hope again. Which is so awesome. I'm starting to get that same feeling I used to have about Nebraska Football. That championships are inevitable here, and we have the right guy to keep going after them. I feel like a kid again...

  17. No joke, maybe they should talk about out how the hell they are going to stop him and JD Spielman and Dedrick Mills and Maurice Washington and Kanawai Noa and Andre Hunt and Mike Williams and Darien Chase and Jack Stoll ....and Adrian Martinez

  18. I recently read on a MN forum how our defense won’t be able to stop anyone because they can’t stop Wan’Dale, a kid who is just out of high school. I get a kick how we’re in their heads, rent free.

  19. Yeah that's the catch here. 9-3 is obviously improvement for this program but I think most people, myself included, expect and want to do more than simply beating the teams we should beat. I mean really, is simply not shooting yourself in the foot anything to strive for? Unfortunately we've been conditioned over the past years to some pretty mind numbing performances. So on one hand, not beating ourselves is much better but on the other hand it also should be an unquestionable expectation. Like I said, I'm expecting 10 or 11 wins but that might be skipping the intermediate step of simple improvement and just not beating ourselves. I guess that's why I'm excited for this season. For the first time in a long time that kind of leap seems possible. Before Frost got here there was some forced hope that things might not be as bad as ithey appeared but that was coupled with the deep down knowledge that it wasn't likely. Now, finally, we can get back to having expectations of excellence without being completely delusional about it.

  20. Everyone in the country will know the name Wandale Robinson by the end of the season. From everything I've read and heard from people that have seen him in practice, this dude is special. Add that to an expanded role for Mo and now its even harder to cover Spielman, our best player in the passing game. I feel like people are forgetting just how damn good JD is. I also think we have multiple options to carry the ball out of the backfield that are very talented. This all being led by one of the 5 best QB in the country? I am really not concerned about the offense. I believe they will average at or near 40 ppg.

  21. Davis turning into a quality player would be damn near miraculous. Right now he has fewer career tackles than some umpires.

  22. There is a similarity in Georgia Tech and Nebraska in that a power back and speed back can be on the field at the same time. They did it with the flexbone, Nebraska with the R receiver. A guy like Robinson can’t be covered with a LB, but he can motion into the box and require one at any time. Hopefully, the tight ends develop to the point they can move around and become difficulties, too. All of a sudden a defense has to make personnel decisions for all of these hybrids and Mills starts to feel like an inevitability and the defense’s response opens up big plays. So maybe he’s only getting 10, but his ability to demand extra defenders means someone else gets 50.

  24. So....I am sitting here watching my beloved Cowboys in pre-season. The back-ups are in and I see this one guy making plays. The announcers are talking about how big of an impact he has made in training camp. I keep watching. The guy gets hurt, looks like a pretty serious injury. Turns out it was Luke Gifford. The guy looked like a completely different player than when he was at Nebraska. I had no idea he was with Dallas. I hope is injury isn't as serious as it looked. He looked really really good prior to the injury.

  25. Yea, I kind of had a long post. I figured you were loyal to the staff because of the way you talk about Frost in other posts that I vaguely remember. I would love to be a 10 win team or more if that happens. Some of my expectations of 8-4 are due to the fact I need to see it on the field. Coaches can say a lot and Frost tells it like it is but other teams are also working hard and trying to win as well. Now, we can definitely do well this year, if we stay injury-free and play our hearts out every game it should be a fun year. I am also not trying to obsess over a win total. If we play better football, smarter football, and tougher football I will be proud of my Huskers. This is one more thing we have sort of missed through it all. Being proud of our team because we know they gave their all on the field and did their best to win no matter the circumstances. The rest will take care of itself and I believe everyone in the program is ready to prove that they aren't just talk and they will put 50 on you if you aren't ready to play.

  28. If McCaffrey is head and shoulders the #2 guy then yeah, they should play him and not worry about the redshirt. But, if there isn’t a huge separation between Vedral and McCaffrey, then I would lean towards Vedral being the #2 guy and trying to preserve McCaffrey’s redshirt. I agree that you shouldn’t worry about burning guys’ redshirt because you should be able to recruit replacements, but QB is a little different, especially since Martinez is the entrenched starter.

  29. We also found out yesterday that a British Royal was involved with Epstein. I take some solace in knowing the FBI, the DOJ and the SDNY are all going to separately probe how this could possibly occur. Does anyone out there actually believe this is a simple suicide? The people whose sick desires Epstein helped facilitate have pockets that are endlessly deep and lot of power. All it akes to whack someone in prison is paying off a guard or two to mysteriously wander away from their post. If something like that did happen I hope we get to the bottom of it. This was too big a domino protecting too many monsters to just accept and move on.

  31. I liked quite a bit of Beck’s offense what always drove me crazy was his penchant for taking shots at the opponents 40 yard line and putting us behind the sticks to either stall drives or settle for long field goals.

  32. I’m not going anywhere near that far, his offenses have done some good things, but they’re piecemeal. An example of how Frost’s offense is different can be found in that wheel route vs Iowa we’ve been discussing this week. Frost commonly, for a variety of reasons, sends his back on a flat route. Iowa knew that and when Mo released into his route, that LB expecting a flat takes a much too sharp of an angle and gets burned when it’s instead a wheel route. Frost’s offense is filled with plays and concepts that build off each other, making it much easier to address situations in the moment. The Auburn vs UCF game is the ultimate example. What a chess match that game is, and still an incredible watch.

  35. 2001 was 37 2000 was 41.5 but, obviously, the speed at which this offense operates will probably inflate those numbers versus those seasons.

  38. Nice to see theres still some delusional fans out there. After everything we've been thru I'm not sure how taking positive steps forward arent good enough for most. If you wouldnt be happy with 8-4 this year then i cant help you. I'm more than happy with 7-8 wins and showing positive progress that this team is changing for the better and i'm able to see with continued tutelage under this staff that we will be a team talked about in the playoff scenario consistently in the future.

  46. (To the tune of a popular Christmas Carol) It's the most, use less poll, of the year! It's the slop sloppiest raaaaaaaanking of alllllll! There'll be teams out of place, not in the race, based off numbers of yore! There'll be blatant campaigning, and lazy number ranking from coaches who find it a chore!
