  1. Business owners accept bribes and funnel money to themselves. Difference is, I can vote a politician out of office. I can't vote the guy who owns the street outside my house out of office, nor do I have any other option than to use that street. So I'm at the mercy of a monopoly if I don't have publicly-funded streets. It's fun to pretend business would run the world better than properly-elected officials. But it's pure fantasy. No society has ever functioned that way. That's not an accident.

  2. Gotta love this Pollyanna fantasy where businesses will work to the benefit of the people if we just get rid of government. Because entities whose sole purpose is to make a profit SURELY won't screw over the public with monopolistic and/or predatory practices.

  5. I can just dream of how joyful it would be to have to pay a corporation to have driveway access off of their private road and how much that would cost or how their terms of service contracts would be. Can only imagine all of the barricaded driveways due to missing a monthly payment. Want your kids to be able to access the gated sidewalks to walk or ride their bike to school? There's a daily usage fee for that. You know a corporation would never buy up all of the roads around schools and go crazy with the congestion pricing fees to get to and from schools every morning. I mean they don't do that now with prescription medications or anything.

  6. Dont we already have private prisons? Isnt that why we have the highest number of incarcerations in the world?

  7. The post below was removed from this thread and banished into the Offending Posts Thread. Since this post did not violate P&R terms, certainly not more than posts allowed to remain in this thread and thousands of others still standing on HuskerBoard, I am returning it to its rightful place. Libertarians aren't supposed to be this stupid. In 1965, the ratio between CEO and the average worker was 20:1 In 2018 it was 376:1 In 2007/8, the best and brightest of the executive class crashed the world economy. Trillions of dollars of other people's money vanished overnight. And these fukkers walked away with bonuses. Every time a billionaire convinces a working class American that billionaires are being unfairly victimized, an angel gets its wings ripped off.

  8. Youre operating under the assumption that small business would be able to compete with corporations in this fantasy world. Corporations would stomp out small business in a heartbeat.

  9. This isn't a Preseason ranking but rather just a measure of number of returning production and factoring in the potential of incoming recruits. It's not telling us anything most of us don't know. We have a lot of returning players and we have recruited well. No hype at all imo, just stating the facts.

  10. 'We Were Hoodwinked': Inside the Final Hours of Mel Tucker as Colorado's Head Coach ROSS DELLINGER AND PAT FORDEFEB 16, 2020 The night he took the Michigan State job, Mel Tucker was affirming his commitment to Colorado boosters and fans, who are now left frustrated and angry. “I swear to God after the event I said, ‘There is something going on.’ His eyes were not … it was almost like he wasn’t telling the truth. It was bizarre.” An hour later, Tucker struck a deal with Michigan State to be its new coach. LINK“ ======================================================== . .

  12. It makes sense. Having a kid commit at 18 years old to a school is like demanding they commit to a major at 18, then stick with it NO MATTER WHAT, until they quit or graduate. Some schools aren't a great fit, and you don't figure that out in a couple of visits. Sometimes you have to be on the ground to figure it out. I think this will build better buy-in in the long run. Kids will be more likely to be where they want to be in their Junior & Senior years.

  13. In light of today's pardons/commutations, remember when @Notre Dame Joe and others tried to rationalize bribing Ukraine as "Trump cares about corruption." Looking at this List of people granted executive clemency by Donald Trump and their charges, some common themes seem to hit home with this Administration.

  14. Just a heads up for those of you who might want to watch a reality show shot in Hartington, Nebraska. FYI, Hartington is the hometown of former Husker great Russ Hochstein. The show covers the day-to-day work grind of a married couple who are Veterinarians in Hartington, Nebraska. Personally, I'm not a reality show kinda guy, but my niece is a Veterinary Technician and she informed me of this new series and I've watched all of the episodes (4 of them so far) and it's actually pretty good. The show follows Drs. Ben and Erin Schroeder. Ben is a Nebraska native while Erin is an upstate New York native. They met in Veterinary School @ Kansas State. Erin was a scholarship basketball player @ Syracuse University. You'll get to see lots of rural Nebraska camera shots along with Nebraska clothing gear here and there. Some of you that post here on Huskerboard might even know some of the folks that appear on the show? For you Nebraska expats missing The Good Life this show might appeal to your visual senses. The first episode aired January 25th, 2020 and will be a limited 6 episode series for now with the possibility of more episodes later. You can stream past episodes on-demand via subscription. Otherwise it airs on Saturdays @ 9:00pm central time on National Geographic Wild. If you're a Spectrum cable customer in Nebraska, you can find it on channel 130. 18. This is true. As much as some of us claim hate on ESPN etc, (and that Gameday against OSU did seem like a setup), but we have been one of the most OVERRATED programs in the past 20 years. We consistently get rated preseason top 25, and have done nothing to earn it. The blame does not fall on the media in our case. It falls on us. Just do SOMETHING for once. Who have we beaten , even in one single game in the past 18 years! An over-rated Michigan State? Is that it....in 18 freakin years?? Nebraska fans desperately want something to cheer for. We want some hope...we honestly haven't been given any by our beloved team. Everyone beats a good team every now and then, even Illinois, yet we haven't. Part of that is due to our overrated prestige...noone overlooks us, like they do an Illinois or a Maryland. Yet we have been not much better than anyone. It would be nice to beat a top 15 team for once.

  19. We will be better this year and the gradual ascension to perennial top ten begins. Id say it takes about 4 years to get there - id guess our ranking might come in as follows: 2020 - #32 2021 - #25 2022 - #18 2023 - #10 Sadly many fans wont be happy with this pace and will lose any remaining patience for Frost. This season is the most critcal for Frost longevity so having the schedule be extra tough comes at a bad time. The pressure is immense no doubt and despite the fairly wide spread discounting and professed low expectations. Even Frost has cut back on the bravado and rather bold commentary of years 1 & 2. I dont think this will help buy Frost more time and hopefully it does not send a negative message to the players. they need all the confidence they can muster backed by harder work and more reps.

  24. Again, the FPI has absolutely nothing to do with national media. Here is all the information one needs to understand it; https://www.espn.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/122612/an-inside-look-at-college-fpi Historically the FPI was been reasonably accurate at predicting a teams performance but the least accurate version is the pre-season one. Take it for what it is - off season clickbait.

  28. Nobody with any sense makes that claim... the difference is, if you don't like how a business operates, you can choose not to do business with them. That choice does not exist with government. And to turn your statement back to you: Gotta love this Pollyanna fantasy where governments work to the benefit of the people and not the politicians that accept bribes and funnel taxpayer money to themselves.

  32. Regardless of outcome, which would you rather have? Which is better for recruiting and our program? A. The national media being positive towards Nebraska, still and expecting us to be good again? B. The national media being negative towards Nebraska, expecting we won't be any good? C. Nebraska being mostly irrelevant nationally. Losing more of whatever aura the program still has. At the same time being able to fly under the radar?
