  1. I think it’s pretty obvious both are true. Riley sucked a$$ and set us back. Frost also sucks so far and has not taken us out of the abyss.

  2. LOL that's stupid and ridiculous. You play the cards you were dealt. A winner will find a way to win. A loser will lose and find excuses and point fingers. Nobody that is a Husker fan said "Please hire Riley from Oregon State". Yall need to understand the former AD hired him, we know we sucked (minus the 9 win season, but that wasn't awesome at all) and although we hired our guy HCSF, we have sucked 3 years in a row since then. Stop blaming f#&%ing Riley you puss. Start holding Frost accountable. Damn.

  3. Oh give me a break. That's so much BS. I'm sorry, but little b!^@hes like to point fingers at Riley for current problems 3 years after HCSF took over, and they still hasn't won half their games under Frost. So keep up the good work about reminding us of past failures prior to HCSF, and all those "so-called" horrible Riley players. Preach on with the Culture theme and future all conference honor O-Lineman while we try to win 5 or 6 games. We going on season 4 with Frost. We haven't gone a season winning half our games. That is the real disastrophy. And by the way, Husker fans are fully aware of 3 seasons under Coach Riley 2015-2017. This is 2021 for the record.

  5. Can you show me where I said that Frost doesn't deserve criticism or that the current state of our program is "all good"?? Because I have a lot of criticisms! I have done nothing here but push back on the narratives (a) that things are as bad as they've ever been, (b) that the team hasn't improved significantly under Frost, and (c) that our talent level/recruiting wasn't horrific under Riley -- using I think some fairly objective measures such as SP+, our recent NFL draft history, and rerankings of our recruiting classes by The Athletic. If you think that means I don't understand shades of gray or that I think everything is "all good", then I would question your reading comprehension.

  6. Here is what I see. Many fans on here are frustrated and voice the things that are not good enough with the program. Then you have some fans who feel they need to defend Frost. Then what happens is it feels like Frost bashing but really some of us are in amazement how guys can ignore the negatives and make excuses for everything so we end up arguing. None of these guys do I believe want Nebraska or Frost to fail but they are very skeptical. Man after 3 years and 12 wins if you are not skeptical I gotta question your ability to analyze your surroundings and be level headed. You can still be a faithful fan and Frost believer. But at the same time say man I am starting to have doubts- my warm and fuzzies from 2017 UCf are gone. 20 years of thinking this is the year is gone for me and I refuse to make excuses for lack of results. I thought it would take a few years to build up the oline and we are there now so it’s put up or shut up time. For me it’s not just a win total, but do we look like a well coached team.

  9. Saying a racist comment (which is most of the time racist in the eyes of whoever wants to make it so) makes one a racist? I think not. Otherwise Joe Biden is racist many times over. How many racists hire a minority as their top employee? How many racists advocate for advancement of all Americans regardless of color? People think he is racist because he doesn’t pander to a certain demographic. He doesn’t do the identity politics.

  10. I think the main disagreement here is coming down to, "How do we want to measure success/progress for a developing program?": 1. Pure binaries like wins/losses, other contextless numbers like points per game, recruiting rankings, etc. 2. What do the underlying numbers and advanced stats say? How do we actually look on the field? How tough was our schedule? Have we been lucky/unlucky? I think subscribing to ONLY Option 1 is very dumb and the people who do so are going it are going to be proven very wrong. But if you want to just yell "12-20!" you're not wrong and no one can really stop you.
    4 points
  11. I just have to wonder what the general feeling in Husker Nation would be if anyone other than HCSF had come in with a $5M/yr. contract and gone 12-20 for their first 3 years including being taken out behind the woodshed last year by a 2-6 team who's coach ended up being fired.

  12. A lot of people in this discussion are keying in on the term "life changing." Maybe instead we can think of this money as "life saving" for some folks around the country who are truly struggling. Would that change the tone of the conversation? That $600, or any amount, can help keep the lights on, food on the table, gas in the car to get to work, or a roof over a family's head for another month.

  13. People on this board want so badly to believe Frost is a better coach than Riley. He isn't. He's equally as bad but, in my opinion, his excuses are bizarre and make his failures worse. This board would've had a meltdown if Riley blamed media timeouts or clapping on his teams complete ineptitude.

  14. Maaaaaaaybe don't mess around with fatality numbers during a pandemic? Eh? You mess with the bull, you get the horns. However, and unrelated to you, Mr. @DevoHusker... I don't know what the numbers of Dems vs. GOP are in the state chambers of New York, but I'm guessing their legislature is predominantly filled with Dems. So, apparently, if there's evidence to show Gov. Cuomo is guilty, but the Dems vote against impeachment or conviction, he's totes innocent and we should all just slaver over his legacy? Is that how that works, any trumpets who read this? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  17. Let's take the man at his own word. A few jewels from our Medal of Freedom winner, the late Rush Limbaugh (not all of them racist — he was a multi-faceted a$$h@!e: “Women should not be allowed on juries where the accused is a stud.” “The only way to reduce the number of nuclear weapons is to use them.” “Citizen service is a repudiation of the principles upon which our country was based. We are all here for ourselves.” “I think this reason why girls don’t do well on multiple choice tests goes all the way back to the Bible, all the way back to Genesis, Adam and Eve. God said, ‘All right, Eve, multiple choice or multiple orgasms, what’s it going to be?’ We all know what was chosen” “When a gay person turns his back on you, it is anything but an insult; it’s an invitation.” “Styrofoam and plastic milk jugs are biodegradable! Do you know what isn’t biodegradable? Paper!” “The ocean will take care of this oil spill on its own if it was left alone and left out there. It’s natural. It’s as natural as the ocean water is.” “Let the unskilled jobs that take absolutely no knowledge whatsoever to do — let stupid and unskilled Mexicans do that work” “Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?” “There are more American Indians alive today than there were when Columbus arrived or at any other time in history. Does this sound like a record of genocide?” “Socks is the White House cat. But did you know there is also a White House dog?” ~ Rush Limbaugh, while holding up a photograph of 13-year-old Chelsea Clinton on his 1993 television show “Exercise freaks … are the ones putting stress on the health care system.” “If you believe in God, then intellectually you cannot believe in man-made global warming.” “Republicans are going to have to realize that if they are to prevail, they are going to have to engage in a political fight that results in the defeat of the Democrat Party — not bipartisanship.” “Cholesterol has nothing to do with heart disease. Nothing wrong with saturated fats.” “You don’t have to be a scientist to know that the President doesn’t know what he’s talking about when he says fossil fuels are the energy of the past. We have more oil than we need. We’ll never run out of it. It’s all we’ve got.” “Some people are self-starters, and some people are born lazy. Some people are born victims. Some people are just born to be slaves. Some people are born to put up with somebody else making every decision for them.” “If you feed them, if you feed the children, three square meals a day during the school year, how can you expect them to feed themselves in the summer? Wanton little waifs and serfs dependent on the State. Pure and simple.” “Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women access to the mainstream of society.” “Let’s say we discover the gene that says the kid’s gonna be gay. How many parents, if they knew before the kid was gonna be born, [that he] was gonna be gay, they would take the pregnancy to term? Well, you don’t know but let’s say half of them said, ‘Oh, no, I don’t wanna do that to a kid.’ [Then the] gay community finds out about this. The gay community would do the fastest 180 and become pro-life faster than anybody you’ve ever seen. … They’d be so against abortion if it was discovered that you could abort what you knew were gonna be gay babies.” “So Miss Fluke and the rest of you feminazis, here’s the deal. If we are going to pay for your contraceptives and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch.” “We’re not sexists, we’re chauvinists — we’re male chauvinist pigs, and we’re happy to be because we think that’s what men were destined to be. We think that’s what women want.” “From this day forward, somebody propose it, liberals should not be allowed to buy guns. It’s just that simple. Liberals should have their speech controlled and not be allowed to buy guns.” “Public and private polling indicates that Ohioans, by a substantial margin, want to overturn the new anti-union law. Which means, if this is true, that people in Ohio want to rape themselves” “Look it, let me put it to you this way. The NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.” “You just gotta be who you are, and I think it’s time to get rid of this whole National Basketball Association. Call it the TBA, the Thug Basketball Association, and stop calling them teams. Call ‘em gangs.” “Holocaust? Ninety million Indians? Only four million left? They all have casinos — what’s to complain about?” “To some people, bankers — code word for Jewish — and guess who Obama’s assaulting? He’s assaulting bankers. He’s assaulting money people. And a lot of those people on Wall Street are Jewish. So I wonder if there’s starting to be some buyer’s remorse there.” “The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies.”

  20. While I am not on the level of thinking Scott Frost is a communist come to corrupt us like some, don't you think it's ironic to make a statement like "ignore evidence and stick your head in the sand" in calling him a pessimist when you're basically doing the opposite? It's ok to talk about the shortcomings of this program and be realistic about what we see, that's not pessimistic (the Dr. excluded). You don't have to defend everything to be a Husker fan. This doesn't have to be binary, it's not all good and it's not all bad.

  22. You mean the 2009 Nebraska team that averaged 18.75 points per game in conference was worse than the 2020 team that averaged 23 points per game in conference? I would also point out the teams we played in 2020 had a much better defensive ranking. I'm not following your math or logic here. Please explain.

  23. Again, this is not true. Last year was our best team by the numbers since Pelini's final season, and that was with a much younger roster than we had in 2018

Literally a start for what you want and you can't even see the forest for the trees. I get it though, it's your skeptical point of view. Just ask yourself though, what would a change look like when it came around in the real world

  26. I will play devils advocate here. Frost's best offensive season was due to Riley's Pro-Style guys. We had already started moving to a 3-4 under Riley because of Diaco. Weight room stuff does have some leeway but they were still lifting, not just up to Epley standards( long story). Winning culture? Last I checked, Riley had a better winning % in his first 3 years. I already know the excuse that will come up for this. OL recruiting. Again, Frost's best year was with guys that were coached for 3 years by Riley and he had a veteran line last year and could have had the same this year but decided not too (I think it will payoff in the long run). The covid excuse is just plain stupid. Every team in the nation went through the same.

  30. Yep. The crazy Qanon lady from Georgia is also bad for 2A business. Making pro gun arguments while claiming school shootings didn’t really happen isn’t a good way to sound reasonable. I’m waiting for some punchline where the Scooby Doo crew pulls off the masks of Trump and all these new Reps to expose Antifa. It was all a ruse to destroy the GOP, and they would have gotten away with it if it wasn’t for those...Nevermind, they will get away with it

  31. Let me first get out of the way that I'm glad you agree he doesn't deserve the half staff, she knows it, and she's pandering. However, how was he not racist? He said objectively racist things throughout his whole career. He made his millions off of saying despicable things about other people in general. Where's this weird line in the sand that protects you from being a racist but being simultaneously allowed to say racist things?

  33. Let's hope so but I also recall Michael Levitt claiming this would all be over by August and the US would "only" have suffered less than 170,000 deaths. He's only off by 300% or so and counting. He's the "expert" the right has been touting that we all follow. I'm also not sure how herd immunity works when strains such as the South African strain seem to not be effected very much by our natural immune response. There's also questions on how well the vaccines work on it. Probably better than the immune response of those previously infected but still. In other words those that have had Covid are most likely not immune to this strain and if it then becomes dominant we'll need tweaks in the vaccine before getting this thing tamped down. That'll be beyond April.

  36. 2009 Nebraska Offense - 25.1 PPG 2020 Nebraska Offense - 23.1 PPG This is not rocket science. I would also point out that the 2009 offense notoriously took little to no risks and Pelini was completely fine punting and putting his defense on the field. Stop acting like Frost is a serviceable head coach. News flash: it doesn't take into year 4 for a single RB recruit out of high school to develop. Or for a center to snap the ball. Or for any of your 15 WR recruits to see the field. Or for a Quarterback to throw the ball more than 10 yards downfield. Or not to lose to the backups of Minnesota at home. Or to get blown out by a bad Illinois team who fired their head coach at home.

  40. What? Last year our offense was worse than 2009 and we lost to the backups of a bad Minnesota team. Our starting 3rd year Center is still learning to snap the ball. We have no development from our runningbacks or receivers. Frost is a garbage coach. Accept it, stop defending the guy, and hope the next hire is the right guy.

  41. Thanks for posting that in the right thread but.... https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/wind-turbines-texas-power-outages/ “Half of Texas Wind Turbines Freeze, Hurting Electricity Output,” while technically accurate, did not show the full picture. Half of the wind turbines did go offline, but power loss from that source was a mere fraction compared to the losses from natural gas, coal, and nuclear sources. In a statement to Bloomberg, Dan Woodfin, senior director for the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), which operates the state’s power grid, said that while ice forced some turbines to shut down just as a brutal cold wave drove record electricity demand, that was the least significant factor in the blackouts. Woodfin also told Bloomberg that the main factors behind the power failures were frozen instruments at natural gas, coal, and nuclear facilities, as well as limited supplies of natural gas." "Turbines can be “winterized,” or made snow-ready, given that wind turbines have been operating in regions like Antarctica. Turbines can be “winterized,” or made snow-ready, given that wind turbines have been operating in regions like Antarctica." Sounds like the Republican leadership in Texas wasn't prepared.

That also should disqualify him even in the eyes of the most strident Trumpist. But no, they're showing up supporting him on social media... lol

  43. The cupboard was bare. We didn't recruit an entire offensive unit of contributors in a four-year period. You're supposed to recruit a two-deep every two years. We didn't recruit a full one-deep in four. The rankings may have looked nice but when they're full of Keyshawn Johnson Jr's, Tyjon Lindsey's, Tre Bryant's and not nearly enough offensive linemen, defensive linemen or linebackers that are legitimate B1G players, the don't mean much.

  44. I think our fanbase greatly underestimates/undersells just how bad of a job Mike Riley did. It's genuinely one of the worst P5 tenures relative to standards at a school in recent memory. He took a team that was consistently in the 20s-30s in SP under Pelini to the 100s in **three years**. Perception-wise, Frost dug his own grave when he talked all that trash when he got hired so he's not blameless, but this wasn't "leaving the cupboard kinda bare." This was ripping the cupboard out of the house, smashing it with a sledgehammer and setting the debris on fire.
