  1. No, people wanna throw the loyal coach away after 45 games, 15 of which we've won, over five years. Five years - zero bowl games. Five years - two wins against teams with winning records. Five years - 5-21 in one-score games Five years - 30 losses, most of which are the results of acts of self-sabotage by our head coach himself. Can you name me one great coach in the last 80 years of football who had 15 wins in five years?

  2. Like just about everyone... I was all about the Frost train. But it's just not working. If he won the next 15 games in a row... he'd have a worse record than Riley did when he was fired. If he won the next 22 games in a row... he'd have a worse record than Callahan did when he was fired. If he won the next 50 games in a row... he'd still have a worse record than Bo did when he was fired. It sucks... but it's all but over at this point.

  3. Regardless of the NW game out come, this "sky is falling", "doomer" mentality from the majority of fanbase, after one game; is so disappointing. The entire reason we got in this "privileged winning" fanbase mentality to begin with was university leadership not understanding culture and prioritizing winning over tenure and program stability. So we finally get a loyal af homegrown coach and AD, and wanna throw loyal coach away after the first game of the season? I'm old enough on Huskerboard to remember the threads about "what if" we had fired Osborne? Or the years of the alleged Husker curse for firing Frank Solich? Then the "karen" firing of Pelini by admins that will not be mentioned? Just saying, is this a game or a idolatry for some of you? Perspective. I say this having to deal with Cowboys fan haters on the daily. The Good Lord taught me not to Crucify anyone I can't raise from the dead. Just saying.

  4. You don't mention the firings of Callahan and Riley. Why? Because their firings were justified since their records sucked? Frost is worse than both of those two, by a long shot. The Frost experience is an experiment that had to happen, but it just hasn't worked out.

  5. Your points were very valid 2 years ago. There were legitimate excuses then. Even last year I held your point of view. I am still hopeful for a season turn around even now but the excuses are gone. That loss Saturday didn't happen because of an onside kick imo. It happened because our head coach though we needed the onside kick. The message sent to the team after that call was a lack of trust in his defense, a lack of trust in his new coaching staff, and a lack of trust in his own ability to outcoach his opponent for the last 20 minutes of the game. That call showed fear of failure and every player on the Nebraska sidelines felt it. I truly believe Scott is a great offensive mind but I no longer believe he has the ability to handle the pressure of leading Nebraska football.

  6. While I agree the knee jerk reaction from this loss is a bit overblown (Northwestern is probably a good team this year) it's not just the first game of the season that has caused it. It's a body of work for 5+ years, and basically the worst resume in Husker coaching history. Frost has earned every ounce of this. He needs to find a way to win and win big the rest of the season. He's basically where Harbaugh was at last season. Native son can't save you from 5+ years of s#!t. It doesn't take that long to turn a program around and this is his last chance.

  7. Again, I just think it's funny that Osborne gets a 20 year pass with a fluff schedule. But Frost gets belittled and crucified after 5. I get it, you all want Barabbas.

  8. If you're going to play directly from the fascist playbook then put on some big boy pants and own it when someone calls you out as a fascist. It's not hyperbole anymore. If anyone is naive enough to think Trump won't go on a campaign of exterminating any and all perceived enemies of his should he return to power, the last few examples above should, but won't, convince all but the most indoctrinated.

  9. He wasn't perfect but he played well enough for us to win.

  10. The more i think about it, the more i see there are more and more decisions that were his fault that lead to the problems we have been having. Alot of that does seem to be arrogance he has, thinking he can somehow outsmart coaches who have been in the game alot longer than he has. He is still very young and needs to learn, either we ride this with him or boot him out at the end of the season and start over.

  11. No it's not. Frost record is absolutely horrible any way you try to spin it. It's pathetic! And I'm probably one of the biggest homers/supporters the last few years.

  12. You remember the last time Husker fans wanted to get rid of a coach who had 15 wins in 5 years? When was that? You just admitted to being more happy that a Nebraska guy is the coach than you would be being a decent football team. Weird priorities but if that's honest to you then kudos I guess. Can you give me an example of any other time for any other program ever that wins eventually came after 5 years of averaging 3 wins per year? Osborne won 9+ games a year. Osborne beat bad teams, and he also beat good teams too ('72 Notre Dame ranked 12th, '73 UCLA ranked 9th, '74 Florida ranked 12th, etc. etc. etc.). Osborne won championships. Osborne went to bowl games. I was raised in it too. Doesn't mean I'd be a good head coach. You were obviously raised in it too. Does that make you qualified to be the coach? I'll ask again. Can you name me any coach in the last 80 years of football who had 15 wins in their first five years and was a really good coach?

  13. 100% of other blue blood programs would've shown Frost the door last year or the year prior 75% of P5 teams would've shown Frost the door last year or the year prior There are many things to call out about this program that could stand improvement, but fan support or lack thereof for Frost isn't one of them. We all (at least the vast majority) wanted this to work out and the majority of us still do. At some point though, reality comes into play and there isn't always storybook ending. Its deflating this is where we find ourselves but at some point you need to show results when it comes to big business which husker football falls into.

  14. That's a bold statement; one that I don't entirely disagree with.

  15. If Callahan would have had the cojones to fire his buddy and bring in a halfway competent DC, he'd still be our coach to this day and we'd have skins on the wall.

  16. I don't believe it. Where is the data? /shown data Yeah, but are we sure that's the real data? I will now pivot to a different argument. Good times.

  18. I've been a loyal fan since 1970 when I was in the 8th grade. I've been there for the highest highs and the lowest lows (Brook, Miami 83). I've earned the right to be critical of where we are in this 5 year experiment. I was all for and excited for Frost's hiring. I never thought it would backfire this badly. It is time to move on. Should have done it last year and set the new coach up for success for this 'easier schedule'. Yes, we save millions by waiting past Oct 1st but there is also the cost of apathy and national perception that has to be considered. From a financial point of view it makes sense to wait, from a fan point of view, it is torture to go through this again. Let's open up the bank account and get a proven winner who can set us on the right track long term. Time to do it.

  21. Hello, Scott Frost. Welcome to the board. I enjoy how you pump yourself up. Is that what you tell everyone when you go downtown? Also, please don't do any onside kicks when we're ahead by 11. Can you please focus on not having a crappy oline year after year? Sincerely, 99% of the fanbase.

  22. I came off a bit harsh. Apologies. I do think the OP doesn't represent reality. Scott has been given plenty of time to right the ship. At first it was culture and buy in. Year two shifted to him being extremely optimistic but not understanding the why when things went poorly. Years three and four continued to show a miffed coach who believed the team needed to taste winning to have it change more outcomes. Mind you, this is four years from Riley's guys. Same results. Same press conference answers. Here we are. Year five. Another close, bad loss. It's not Riley's fault. It's not the team culture fault. It's not offensive creativity's fault. It's on Scott. Him. That's it. And the fact he doesn't acknowledge this more readily shows his narcissistic tendencies and has become one of NU's biggest problems. It impedes the development and progress of players and coaches. It's much of why we're 15-30 in his tenure.

  23. Seriously, how can you compare Frost to Osborne with a straight face?

  24. Be careful of what? Hiring a coach that can go winless in the B1G? I mean we're in the f'n basement now. Frost has won 28% of his B1G games.

  25. Our fan base sucks sometimes.

  26. That is the problem - with each loss more and more people believe what you just typed. Nebraska is who it is because we have refused to accept failure. I for one hope we don't start now...

  27. Not just one game - a continuation of last year and the years prior. Again the team, other than the 1st half on offense, looked unprepared and Frost was out coached again.

  29. This is the stupidest thread after one game in all of my life. But please, Proceed. Shore up our defense, and we will win 6-8 regular season games, and then go bowling. That is right, Ye of little Faith. Go Big Red!

  30. I agree with you. It is clear that he knows exactly what he is doing, what the defense is doing, and what he expects from the receivers. But, he will also have the convo with his guys during the game (and in practice) to communicate with them "what happened?, What did you see on this route? Tell me about the defender on that play". He also owns up to his mistakes when they happen. A guy like this is extremely focused imho. I am very impressed and think we will be fine.

  33. This. I can even see us going 3-0 and beating Oklahoma (really stealing one from them), and then going 0-fer during the B1G stretch because we're so mismatched up front. Hell, even the Friday night Rutgers game looks intimidating because Schiano gets his teams to play good, basic, fundamentally sound football. It's not sexy, but it's worked--twice. Oklahoma is so different than what we deal with in the B1G, it's why we were able to hang. It's like we're built to play Big XII football with a pass first, run when you remember it's in your playbook offense and a sieve of a defense.

  34. I was out camping with zero services for about 20 miles in any direction so I missed the game until last night watching it on the DVR. I watched us being pretty decent until that on sides call and then everything got deflated. I have never seen a team go from hero to zero so fast and that's all on Frost. I am just at the point that it's time to let Frost go after the buyout is lowered, nothing has changed with the new coaches he brought in or players for that matter. The only constant at this point is Frost, so I point this directly at him.

  35. GTFO with comparing Frost to Osborne. It took TO 13 years to lose 30 games.

  37. ^Sportsdataverse. With a whole 1,357 subscribers... I bet that's where the 'SLATE' article got it's information from. The success rate could be 70% but the onside kick decision against NW was easily the stupidest decision play calling wise in SFs career without question.

  38. It isn't just one game, we have now lost 7 straight games by one possession. We also haven't seemed to improve at all in the areas we've needed to improve in. But how horrible the defense was is extremely concerning as we move forward into the season and have to go up against Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, etc. Those offensive lines are going to mow us over and those teams could be seeing 400 yard rushing days. Defense may be so bad that we relive the Cosgrove years.

  40. I've said this so many times and it drives the point to fire him home. If he was even an AVERAGE coach he would have the longest leash in football. He can't even manage that.

  41. It's a huge-momentum swinging play one way or the other. The risk outweighed the reward because we already had all the momentum. It was the wrong time to get desperate.

  42. I have found it refreshing to see fans speak up early. It's not like we didn't hear a large volume of "coachspeak". The bloviation continues at an alarming pace. It would have been far different if Frost was stating that the players aren't working hard, don't seem ready, etc. The reality is he sells massive improvement and then squander a lead with his same miscues. He will still get his 4-5 wins and nestle in nicely into a 4-8 or 5-7 team. He will probably be the 5-7 team of all-time if history repeats itself. Go Big Red.

  43. They were good compared to Chinander's other years, but compared to the other defenses in the country they were mediocre. Not bad, not particularly good, just middle of the pack.

  44. Frost had four top 20 classes in a row. Look where we're at. Riley wasn't amazing but wasn't awful at recruiting. Look where he went. Pelini was a worse recruiter than either of them, but a better developer. Look how he did. Development, culture and identity come first, and when those lead to you maximizing your potential in the form of wins, then recruiting success with the brand name/money/history/fan support will follow. Getting a top 5 recruiting class and then being unranked with a losing season is easy (Callahan did it, Texas is great at doing it, USC has done it). It's much harder to take a #40 recruiting class and make it a top 25 team, and the foundational building blocks that allow that to happen are what our division opponents do great as they're currently kicking our a$$ every year while we beat ourselves with better recruiting.
