I said the same thing back when Riley was hired and people laughed and told me what a great hire he was and how I was in denial and how his past players all loved him and how he'd excel with all of our extra resources." 3. Scott Frost won big in his second season at UCF also, what's your point?

  4. It just stuns me to think that we brag about our resources and money yet taking a coach like Leipold is beneath us? Anyone who can win 5 games at KU in the 2nd season, is doing something right. I watch them play, they are undertalented, they are overmatched on Defense most weeks, and still they compete. We could do worse than him as our next head coach, thats for sure.

  5. Ok dude wtf are you smoking. We lost to a terrible NW and Georgia Southern team. No just no, and that doesnt even count in the massive talent difference between us and them.

  6. No but I don't want your savior coach either. In fact, what I want doesn't matter and therefore it's simply not worth constantly ranting about it. One thing I do know is I have been all my life a husker fan and regardless of whom Trev hires I'll continue to be a husker fan. (Yes, even if Aranda is hired)

  9. Know what your talking about if your going to post. Leipold has now been at Kansas for 1 1/2 seasons. Took over the program after recruiting was wrapped in his first season. He has now recruited one class of his players to KU. KU won like 4 games in the last 6 seasons before him. Not saying that I want him as our head coach, but to think that we win 5 games in a row with our talent and coaching staffs we have had in the last 10 years, YEAH, I would take Leipold. One year of recruiting, and now has won 5 gams already. We might not win 5 games against the worst Power 5 football conference in the nation this season.

  10. the year that he was hired to coach Kansas he did not have spring ball with them and the recruiting class was done and signed. so he has had 1 recruiting class and 1 spring football with the team. pretty damn good to be where they are now. the Tennessee Tech type game is a game Kansas has lost in the past with regularity. i don't necessarily want Lance as our next head coach but to say he should be doing better and should have things fixed at the absolute worst fbs program is a monumental reach of a take.

  11. NU would have gone 5-0 against KU’s first five opponents.

  12. Are you kidding me about not handling expectations. Lol. These are the same kids that were picked LAST. Just because he won 5, doesn’t change the roster. He has also almost won with a back up qb. Expectations are when you enter a season ranked highly and then choke, not when you overachieve and play undermanned on the road against good teams. Smh. Plus, high expectations?? They were the underdog in each of those 3 games.

  13. Central to Mickey’s success or any other candidate is instilling desire within the team. Having a competent that does likewise. By his actions he is instilling a culture often described as “extreme ownership”. “It’s on me”. And through demonstrating that the team follows his lead. He’s shown that he can make tough decisions and would likely do so if selected. To be clear, I’m not suggesting that he’s the front runner or the most qualified. The potential seems to be there. There’s a whole host of things to consider. Being a great head coach is dependent on what qualities the person possesses and how well they can manage. I’d say coach Joseph has made a good start.

  14. and this year, he's 3-3 with 2 of his wins coming over G5 teams while losing the powerhouse programs like WV & BYU... yet to you he's elite. Hmm..... 3-3 equates to elite, someone's pushing "their" agenda as much as they accuse others as pushing theirs.. What's the old saying "pot calling the kettle black", is that right?

  15. Why should the HC be a "great" offensive or defensive mind? They need to be a leader of the program which includes both the offense and defense. If we keep Mickey as HC, it's not the end of the world because he's shown he can squeeze juice from a lemon that appeared to be done for the year.

  16. Smh. he took over a team that basically quit on it's head coach. He relates to them and has them playing much better. Head coach? Not sure. But your statement is ridiculous

  17. oh ya total choke artist, give me a break. The guy has little to no talent on that team and the one talent he had at QB was injured a couple games ago. The fact these game are close is kudos to him. He isn’t coaching in Lincoln but this has nothing to do with expectations. That injury was a death blow.

  18. Yes, there are things called interview processes and negotiations. You don’t hand over millions of dollars and the keys to the program to someone that doesn’t align with what you want. No one we are considering right now has earned that right. I would argue Brian Kelly botched it at LSU letting MJ walk. Urban is the only one out there who has earned that right to take MJ off the table. I don’t think we are getting Urban but he is the only one I’d remove MJ if you can actually secure a deal with Urb. He has earned that right to call his own shots. If Leipold and Campbell come in and don’t retain MJ, that would be a huge failure and I think I’d bet all day the fanbase would agree and make it loudly known. Trev is not stupid to walk into that mutiny from day one.

  19. We all know you are the color guard for standard and that standard is anti MJ but you chose to ignore truths too. Many on here look at how the players have responded to coach MJ's leadership and believe as I do, that had MJ been the head coach from the season's start the record would be much improved. In believing that and knowing what lies ahead I also believe had MJ been the HC from the start of the season (which mind you, would be his first year as HC) the team would likely be playing for 8 wins. So, I refer back to part 2 of my earlier question as evidence of and proof for fans to reasonably be excited about MJ. There will be a few haters (You obviously fit in here) but by a large amount most fans would feel excited and hopeful. MJ has done a fabulous job since being handed the reigns in a tumultuous situation. Hence the reason I think Trev has a very difficult decision ahead. I truly believe if MJ wins 5 games total while reflecting back on the NW and GS losses that a speculation exists MJ would have won as HC then and well.... simply stated, the program could and has done much worse then MJ in choosing previous HC's.

  20. Does anyone on here still want Leipold? Three-straight loses now for KU. Seems like he’s a choke-artist to me and can’t handle high expectations. After Kansas started 5-0, expectations came into play and KU folded.

  21. Amen…. As much as I would like to have MJ stay if not the HC, it would be a HORRIBLE tactic by Trev to dictate who the new guy HAS to keep. It isn’t how you run a good program . In addition, MJ isn’t going to stay to be WR Coach or recruiting coordinator. He isn’t taking that step backwards to stay here. This means anyone coming in would have to run the type of offense that MJ is an expert on and can coach (not time for a training year), or a coach who is willing to let MJ be associate HC. Unless the new guy has a history with MJ, that is a lot to demand of any Coach worth his salt.

  22. Dictating to head coaches which assistant coaches they need to keep is a good way of limiting your pool of potential head coaches and it’s a terrible way of running an athletic department.

  24. Again, more assumptions on your part. You group people into categories and then label the groups accordingly. This is a common flaw on public forums. (One I find myself often guilty of sadly/shamefully) My point to you is there is reason for optimism. Tom Osborne had zero HC experience and was nearly chased away because "according to the arm chairs" he couldn't win the big one. Thankfully, TO stayed true to himself and to the young men he recruited. In MJ, I see a lot of the same characteristics. A man that parents will find it hard to not trust. A coach that young high school students will gravitate to and play for. A coach that has credibility within the administration and boosters because of his integrity. A coach that puts everyone ahead of himself and holds them accountable to themselves and to each other. You can boast you're perceptions of mediocrity all you want but you won't convince me that MJ is mediocre. He's a winner and will continue as such wherever he lands. Personally, I'm hoping Lincoln becomes his permanent address. As a HC or as associate HC but non the less, a permanent member of the huskers

  25. Thanks. I’ve dealt with many disgusting individuals. There’s quite a wide variety of them. The severity is on a spectrum. There are too many red flags with Meyer. To be fair to Urban’s supporters, many don’t have a good understanding of this sort of thing and have been fortunate to have not experienced it. He’s plenty shady and demonstrate considerable deception. I can say that with certainty. It’s best that Urban Meyer remains in broadcasting away from student athletes. Finally a word on the nastiness of coaches. Yes, most are very narcissistic. Some are truly narcissists. The two shouldn’t be confused. Like good teachers and other professionals, some can be viewed as a-holes. That’s usually associated with their demanding nature, standards and a desire for excellence. It isn’t abusive or neglectful in any way. There are others having mental pathologies that are dangerous to those they associate and do great harm in a wide variety of ways. Some are very covert with their actions hiding their conduct well. It disgusts me when these sorts are defended. I detest these perpetrators immensely. We are not talking about expecting people to be perfect absent having any “skeletons”. I’m referring to patterns of behaviors. How a person typically conducts themselves. Not isolated incidences where there is reflection on one’s actions and genuine remorse. There are good coaches that don’t have dangerous personality characteristics. And fewer that do. There is no reason or justification for enlisting a person of highly questionable character.

  27. Seems to me that for Coleman to commit he is confident MJ is staying in some compacity. Otherwise, why commit at this early stage- let things play out. Maybe Trev has his guy picked out. The guy has committed to keeping MJ. Or maybe MJ has secured the HC position - doubtful at this point and I think it would be announced if that was the case.

  29. KU is 19-79 in the past decade and hasn’t won 5 games in a single season since 2009, when they won exactly 5….including a few winless seasons…. Dykes is doing a great job, but TCU is not comparable to KU…..in any way…. Recruiting, facilities, Texas $$….

  31. Umm... I personally am excited at the prospect of MJ being our next head coach and him being a former player is way down the list: 1. It's obvious that both player's and coach's tend to gravitate to him. 2. He's forthright with his beliefs and answers 3. He's a highly experienced coach with an awesome family of experienced members to lean on. 4. He's shown he can and will make tough decisions. 5. He's engaging both to the media and the fanbase but most importantly, to the young men that enter his office. 6. He's one of the best recruiters we've had since TO's time. 7. He's tough both mentally and physically. 8. He isn't afraid to speak the truth, to put forth a plan and hold everyone (including himself) accountable to it. 9. He is a minority coach and that, here at Nebraska especially, is important because he is the first! 10. He's a former player that understands a winning culture. Now.. tell me again why "I" like MJ?

  32. If y'all hate Matt Campbell so much, I don't get the love for Mark Stoops. Stoops is the SECs version of Campbell, aka guy doing a good job at a historically bad football school. Stoops has 2 winning conference seasons in 9 seasons. He's only finished ranked twice in 9 seasons. He's 5-27 vs ranked teams. He's 16-44 against teams with winning records. He makes a living beating low level FBS teams, FCS teams, and the Vandy's of the world.

  33. Why would you consider SF a "fan choice" hire when he was the top candidate at two other prestigious P5 colleges and was largely considered, by a majority of the college football world, a top coaching candidate that year?

  40. Aranda did it at the Power 5 level. The Big 12 was stacked with good teams last year and he ended up winning it. Baylor played an 11-1 Okie State team in their conference title game and won. Frost played nobody at UCF during the regular season.

  41. How many Baylor coaches have won a conference title there in just their second season? He also won the Sugar Bowl.

  42. I’m not saying you specifically. I’m just talking about most of the Mickey supporters. From the fans to the administration, a good chunk of NU supporters seem to think that what happened 30 years ago has any relevance today. A program’s history will not carry it after decades of mediocrity. It is time to make an elite hire, not a mediocre one.
    2 points
  43. Let me get this straight. According to some of the fans, Mickey going 6-6 means he should keep the job? So a .500 record with this cupcake schedule is now good enough for NU football? How the mighty have fallen. Hopefully Trev doesn’t have such low standards.
    2 points
  44. I didn't read it as 6-6 meant Frost was automatically going to be kept, 6-6 would just mean that he would go back to his original contract if retained. I think 6-6 is a bad season. I guess I would give a new coach a pass in year 1, but I would be asking serious questions if a coach can't be better than 6-6 in year 2. You can normally tell by year 2 if a coach has "it" or not.

  45. Wow bro - I can't believe you actually took the time to do that. It's almost creepy... but hey, you helped to prove my point, so thanks (I guess?) You could've saved yourself a lot of time and effort with a much easier solution...
