  1. Being anti-semitic and being critical of the nation of Israel aren't the same thing. It's important you understand that because that's a pretty simple distinction that elementary school students can understand.

  2. What I am making up? For example, Sipple has been writing 2-3 articles per week that are pro-Mickey for the past few weeks. Now that Mickey has lost 2 in a row, I am sure the media will find a new angle to take. As far as who I want, a) my opinion doesn't matter as far as who gets hired and b) I don't have 1 set guy I am behind. If I had to name my favorite, I have stated multiple times I would make Luke Fickell an offer he couldn't refuse. I would also be happy with most names mentioned, some more than others. I would be unhappy with a few, mainly BoB. I am not championing 1 or 2 guys because I don't really feel that strongly. I could be an annoying douche and spam the board all day with how great of a coach and leader of men Luke Fickell is, but I don't think anyone really cares to read that.

  4. That is not at all what it says. If a new coach is hired Mickey goes back to his original contract he signed this past winter. So if the new coach doesn't want him he would get a 2 year buyout (2023-2024 salary).

  5. He deserves a long look as HC. Get a solid staff and he might be the magic in a bottle we are waiting for.... “Everybody wants Nebraska to stay sleeping because we’ve got the resources, and they know I can get players,”

  6. This has never been how Twitter has been run, at least not recently, so I guess it’s just status quo. He’s too important to allow himself to be consumed by Twitter for too long. I imagine he’ll take a step back once he’s had his fun. Honestly, those spaces are so consumed by the left and leftists ideas that I don’t mind the push back that Musk brings.

  8. How Auburn treated Gus at the end of his tenure and especially how they treated Harsin pretty much his whole time there, that job is toxic AF imo. They are so desperate to be Bama that they act like idiots.

  9. You can’t be serious. Auburn is a much better job, not even close. Recruiting alone…., SEC prowess, relativity within last decade, more $$ than us, warm weather school (which is huge for guys like Prime)…. The 80s and 90s passed long ago. Welcome to reality.

  12. Mickey is clearly working his a$$ off for this program. To be honest, I really don't even think he's in over his head. I just don't think he's got enough guys on the OL to be as successful as he'd want. Blame the guy who was here for the last 5 years, who had a chance to coach this porous OL. There will be mistakes that he makes during games, but I have confidence he will learn from them and he has already managed a few games very well regarding clock management. He checks the box on every organizational quality I'd want in a HC. He's great with the players and they love him. He clearly has a plan where he wants to go with this program. He's not coaching the team like a guy who will be gone in a few games. I loved that Sports Illustrated article. Mickey, from everything that I've seen and read, has a lot of integrity and grit. Every parent would feel comfortable sending their son to play with Mickey. He embodies everything that I'd want to see as a Nebraska Head Coach. He's getting valuable experience this season and I'm willing to give him a few years to see what he can do.

  13. Arguing who is a better program is different than which is the better job. At one your biggest competition is Iowa, at the other its Alabama, Georgia and LSU. You have to recruit in the top 10 nationally to be in 4th place in the division. At one the issue is that they kept their coach to long, at the other boosters and other members of the Athletic Department conspired to spread rumors that the head coach was sleeping with ex-cheerleaders in order to have them fired and had an embarrassing 'inquiry' into the matter. Trust me guys, nobody craps on Nebraska more than me. But acting like Auburn a desirable place other than money - which we also have - is just not true.

  14. Scott Fraud arrived with all the accolades one would want. All the pro v con's. And zero passion. And got his a$$ed kicked each and every year. A successful coach at school "X" doesn't mean success at NU. Lack of HC experience doesn't predict losses nor equate to success. It's a crap shoot.

  20. I don't necessarily disagree with this, but I would posit two things for consideration. 1) In the last 20 years, Nebraska has so far proven it's harder to win here than it is at Auburn (I know that's not a fair 1:1 comparison to make and for a variety of reasons, but still... for all this conversation of it being easier to win at Nebraska, of which I am guilty of, Auburn has had much better seasons in the last 20 years amidst the dominance of the division they're in). So, is it easier to win at Nebraska? Debatable at the least. 2) That was effectively my point about the boosters. I know there are other places that are crazier than Nebraska, but Nebraska boosters have been anything but angels the last 20 years.

  21. Sure, if a coach wants to get his contract paid out after boosters actively try to sabotage their job, Auburn is the place to go! In all seriousness, what coaches want in today's CFB is for boosters and the Athletic Department to get out of their way and to have access to as much NIL money as possible. Nebraska provides that and you only have to do it better than Iowa, Purdue, etc.

  22. I like what Cole Stukenholtz said in his article about why MJ very likely will not be the hire: "Trev Alberts doesn’t do passionate; he does pros-and-cons lists, thoughtful consideration, detailed evaluations and calculated action." I wanted MJ to get the job, but I'm seeing that he's not up to it. That sentiment keeps getting the "he's doing the best with what he's got" response. I agree with that response in part, but not to the extent that he should be excused for his (mounting) losses.

  24. I didn’t see anywhere in the article that says the next head coach has to retain Mickey. All it says is that Mickey has a 3-year contract. Mickey doesn’t have to be retained, he will just get paid out his final 2 years if he’s not.

  30. We have some talent but it's been years since we've had depth. The thing about teams is that you can have 15 solid starters, but the 7 weak links can kill you. Especially if the weak links are in the offensive line or defensive secondary, where opposing teams can target them every play. The other thing about teams is that they can make good players great through culture, scheme, and player development. Can't make s#!tty players great, but there is an abundance of talent in the middle-range, where 17 and 18 year old kids haven't finished growing or had a coach fine-tune their skills or figure out they weren't even playing their best position. So maybe to kinda answer your question: we could easily have 15 players with top 35 talent on this roster ( a pretty modest bar) but the drop-off at the other positions and depth charts means we don't have enough to beat top 35 teams. If the question is whether we can get better players to come to Nebraska the answer is yes, of course. That's how every crappy team gets better.

  32. I'm not a huge follower of recruiting, but looking back at the last few classes 2019 class had Henrich, and Jackson Hannah was another recruited LB (more at OLB), but I thought he was way too small and thin once he got to NU, but transferred 2020 class had Keyshawn Greene (immediate transfer), Mauga-Clements (hasn't developed, and looks small), and Zach Slager as a transfer (did nothing at NU) 2021 class had Randolph Kpai (can't seem to put on weight/bulk), Wynden Ho'ohouli (not sure if he's on the team or immediately went back to Hawaii), Mikai Gaybor (have never heard of him), and Seth Malcom (hasn't done anything so far), and Chris Koralevic as a transfer (ok in adding depth, but his talent is limited) 2022 class had Hausmann (good talent, already seeing the field, but being asked to do too much as a true frosh) and Gage Stenger (too early to tell) This position is a perfect example of when I say that there is a lack of talent on the team. If just looking at recruiting, the position doesn't seem to be doing too bad from the 2020 and 2021 classes, but overall the retainment and development for this position has been a bust. This position group isn't the only group that I feel this way.

  33. I'd give Logan Smothers all the first team reps this week and let him start if Thompson is out. He may stink it up, but I feel he gives Nebraska a better chance to win than Purdy, particularly if Whipple is willing to modify the game plan. Logan looked ok against Iowa last year until he did the Martinez 2nd half collapse after the blocked TD punt.

  36. I think it depends on the coach and their immediate circumstances which job they would view as the better gig. Sure the recruiting grounds are more fertile for Auburn but the chance to succeed and dominate your division is definitely better in the B1G west. Have to believe that’s worth something not drawing Bama, UGA, LSU etc. every year. And I’ve been to Auburn….those fans are crazy. If you think Nebraska and it’s boosters are bad, Auburn is all of that on steroids.

  38. We act like we're competing for available coaches, when the likelihood is that half of these guys will stay put, and the other half might prefer one of the other available slots. Nebraska has a fighting chance for some of the big names, but we really have no idea how far down Trev's list he'll have to go or how much he'll have to pony up. And if we decide we have to "settle" for Campbell, why do we assume he'd prefer Nebraska over Iowa State? Or that Leipold has no stake in staying at Kansas?

  41. Completely agree. Thank you for expanding on my initial post. We have devoted so much of our recruiting on Edge rushers that we lack depth at Inside LB. For example, this year we recruited Ashley Williams, Cameron Lenhardt, Noonan, and Rogers (who I thought was LB but 247 has as Edge). We have one LB commit (Hayden Moore, who I actually really like, think he is underrated) who is our lowest rated commit. Yes, Edges might be LBs in some regard, but they aren't Inside LBs, a position we desperately need depth at.

  42. A player can be talented, but if he doesn't know what he's supposed to do or doesn't put forth the effort needed, he's going to look to not have talent. I saw a lot of both on Saturday. A player not knowing what they are supposed to do, doesn't mean they aren't talented. We have enough talent on the team for them to be playing better than they are. I'm not saying conference championship level talent. I'm talking about enough talent to be competitive and play good sound football. There was a play where I was watching Hausman line up. He lined up on the left side, Illinois shifted, and he had no clue what to do. The other LB was directing him to the other side. When he got in position, he still was looking around asking...."what am I supposed to do?". When the ball was snapped, he had nothing to do with the play. That's not an indication of him not having talent. He doesn't know what to do with it to help the team. There was another play where Illinois scored a TD from the 5 or 10 yard line. The RB just walked into the endzone without a defender even around him and caught the ball. Obviously, someone had no clue what they were supposed to do. Not a lack of talent, just clueless. Look at the play that's going around the internet where Illinois blocked our extra point and what Benhart did. That's not lack of talent, that's complete lack of effort. Look at the play where Grant had a good run. But, Washington was called for an absolutely stupid hold. That's not Washington not having talent. It's him doing an absolutely stupid thing that he knows better not to do.

  44. 1) I said that the guys on the radio said he’s day to day. You acted like he was cleared and going to be healthy the rest of the year. That’s why I said I really didn’t give an update and said his status was up in the air. This morning, I saw a Tweet from Sam McKewon quoting Mickey’s post game TV show from Sunday morning that Casey could be out a while. It’s a developing situation. 2) My comments about podcasts and other things are in response to your comment about “I don’t do radio”. Well, I live in Colorado but due to the magic of smart phones, I am able to listen to radio broadcasts from Omaha, Dallas, and almost anywhere. If you really want to find things out on your own, you have the power to do so. There is a lot of information out there if you are willing to look. And if it’s on the internet, it must be true!! UPDATE: Lots of sources taking Mickey’s comments from his Sunday coach’s show that Thompson will likely be unavailable for Minnesota.
