  1. Honest question - How many CFB teams have OCs that their fans actually like? 5?

  12. The contrast between Rhule and Frost couldn't be greater. I hope it shows up quickly on the field also. I have to think the players will be impressed with the guy along wt the recruits.

  14. Here is more about Satterfield's career. He does not have a great deal of OC experience so that is concerning. Also, he served as a head coach at Tennessee Tech and went 6-16 in his time there and was fired after his 2nd season. I am fearful that Rhule is just bringing in buddies and not the best staff candidates in the nation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcus_Satterfield

  16. I wanted to start a thread on the positives of hiring Matt Rhule. There will always be doubters and distractors. But at this moment it is time for Husker Nation to come together and bring positive energy into our program. We've had too much negativity over the past 8 years. So lets look at the numbers as to why this is a good hire - and I'm not talking about on the field numbers. Some tongue in cheek here as I do a Di Vince code play wt the numbers that came to my mind The signs that the Solich Curse & the Bo Curse (firing 9 win coaches) are now broken : 5: Runza -Frank - Rhule all have 5 letters. It is meant to be. Rhule was hired to end the Solich Curse 5 also stands for "freedom, Independence, individuality, adaptability, and "life lessons learned through experience". Husker fans have learned from the school of hard knocks and the primary lesson: Humility and Patience 7 stands for Completeness, wholeness - Iowa's win streak over the Huskers stopped at 7. That cycle has been completed. The lessons have been learned (see # 5) 8 Victory, Prosperity & overcoming The last game of the season providing a new start - after 8 years in the wilderness. On the 8th year we beat Iowa in the last game. Victory over Iowa was a preview of things to come Also 8 year contract - FIRST TO NAME IT - NC WINNER IN YEAR 8 OR BEFORE !! 9 - The # of letters in "Matt Rhule". 9 stands for completion. The finalization of a cycle. Thus, the Solich/Bo Curse is completed. The cycle is over. We can proclaim it as so - SO BE IT! 11 # of letters in "Trev Alberts" & # of letters in "Frank Solich" - 11 stands of awakening, enlightenment, contentment and good fortune - This is where we are headed as a program. Ok seriously: I like the Rhule hiring because it gives the us much needed positive experience at the HC position. Let's face it: Frost was still a novice HC when he was hired and Riley's experience - while long term- wasn't very successful. Rhule is a developer and a builder and that is what we need at Nebraska. By the way - I looked up those number meanings on the internet - I'm not into new age numerology So what do you find positive about the Rhule hiring??

  17. Why would any bitterness be understandable? Mickey had an opportunity, albeit not an extremely fair one, and his results weren’t enough to earn the job. I don’t think he should be bitter at all. I would understand if he doesn’t want to stick around but bitter? Nah, unless he’s being unreasonable about it.

  18. This x1,000. I don't care what Rhule's record is anymore. The fact that his hire got the reporters mic'd up is a win over almost two decades of fans having to guess what question the reporters were pissing the coach off with.

  19. I think it's possible that there will be Co-OCs. And perhaps they would give Mickey that title as an incentive to stay and/or validate a bigger salary. Possibly a Passing Game Coordinator would be more appropriate but that's probably splitting hairs.

  21. Gamecock fan here...just dropped in to see how Nebraska fans are feeling about the hire, since it was rather unexpected for us. I am personally conflicted. If you asked me 3 weeks ago, I'd have packed his bags for you. But then you have the last games of our season. To put it mildly, our offense was trash for the first 10 games this season. Then, out of nowhere, it was unbelievably potent in the game against Tennessee and looked very good against Clemson. Beamer was adamant after the UT game that Satt was calling plays. Some fans are skeptical because our offense in the last 2 games bore little resemblance to our offense in the first 10 games. If it was Satt calling plays, it begs the question, why did he wait 11 games to try something different? If it was indeed Satt calling plays the last 2 games, most fans were ok with him coming back to have another go round with Rattler. At this point, most on our side are ok with him moving on and see it as a chance for us to upgrade. Will be interesting to see how it works out long-term for both sides. As an outsider, I'm surprised Rhule didn't make a move for someone more established/dynamic as an OC, but he knows Satt better than any of us. It was just such a strange situation for our offense to go from 23 games of mostly forgettable offensive performances under Satt to a historic offensive performance in the final 2 games.

  24. Even though it was a joke ... This year at South Carolina they had 389 rushing attempts and 372 passing attempts - 51.1% rushing. But they were much more effective passing the ball. They were #41 in the country in passing yards per game at 257.8. #24 in passing yards per attempt at 8.3. #103 in rushing yards per game at 123.25. #89 in rushing yards per attempt at 3.8.

  36. Unfortunately have to agree with this. Which isn't to say I want him gone or he will be gone. But there are definitely potential pitfalls if he comes back. Which shouldn't be ignored in the decision-making process.

  37. Not really understanding how Mickey all of the sudden wants to be a HC when he hasn't angled that way for 25 years. It was just an easy in and the state of Nebraska was almost duped into allowing it to happen. Hiring Mickey would have been 100000x more embarrassing than the degree of stupidity we see with Iowa and Ferentz. Kirk at least doesn't lose 60% of his games. I also don't get the concern for the split locker room. Mickey hasn't even been in town for an entire year yet. It is not like he is some keystone in most of these kids' lives. Also, I would be suprised if over half of the locker room next year isn't brought in new by Rhule anyway. I'm all about keeping Mickey for his connections to the state, his recruiting prowess, his WR coaching chops. But to pretend keeping him is the only way to move forward with success is undermining Rhule and his chops before his plane even lands. Rhule is a grown man, a well regarded professional in the industry. If we don't trust him w/o Mickey training wheels, we really really really botched this hire.

  38. Those Democrats run cities - with all their problems and squalor - should really use all that tax money they generate to make themselves better! No more subsidizing utopian rural areas. They can pick themselves up by their boot straps. Hell, we should add up all the surplus tax revenue cities have sent to rural America and have them pay it back at prevailing interest rates. After all, if there's one thing rural patriotic Americans can't stand, it's the stench of socialism.
