  1. Holy hyperbole. We throw the ball less than everybody in the entire United States except the military academies, and the passing concepts are about as simple as they possibly can be on the exceedingly rare times we actually throw it. What are you talking about?

  2. Man, you might want to get your memory checked, just saying. That or you're trying way to hard and making crap up trying to defend your position. Either way You could argue Casey made Palmer look good. "He (Palmer) was limited to one catch against No. 17 Illinois - which entered the game with the nation's No. 1 pass defense - as Nebraska struggled after starting quarterback Casey Thompson was knocked out of the game in the first half. Thompson also missed the Minnesota game, when Palmer caught five passes for 37 yards. With Thompson still out, Palmer caught five passes at No. 3 Michigan but was limited to 12 yards. Thompson returned against Wisconsin, when Palmer caught four passes for 47 yards, including a pair of touchdowns." https://huskers.com/sports/football/roster/season/2022/player/trey-palmer And surely Casey's low rushing numbers had nothing to do with the fact he was sacked 24 times behind the worst offensive line in modern Nebraska History. Fun fact, he only had 56 total carries on the year. That means sacks accounted for 43 percent of his carries. But yeah, rushing is the way to judge his QB talent. . https://huskers.com/sports/football/roster/season/2022/player/casey-thompson Casey Thompson battled through injuries to start 10 of 12 games at quarterback in his first season at Nebraska in 2022, missing the Minnesota and Michigan games due to injury. He completed 63 percent of his passes (173-of-274) for 2,407 yards and 17 touchdowns, while adding five rushing touchdowns. Thompson had three 300-yard passing games this season, becoming only the fifth quarterback in Husker history with three 300-yard passing games in a season. He has also threw at least one touchdown pass in each of his 10 games. Thompson's 2,407 passing yards ranked seventh in school history while his 17 touchdown passes tied for 10th on Nebraska's season chart. Thompson ranked 12th nationally in passing yards per completion (13.9) in 2022, 14th in passing yards per attempt (8.8) and 29th in passing efficiency (150.1). Thompson completed 25-of-42 passes for 355 yards and one touchdown in his debut against Northwestern. His 355 passing yards led the nation in Week 0 and were the most passing yards by a Husker in his debut and the most passing yards in a season opener in school history. Against North Dakota, Thompson threw for 193 yards and two touchdowns. He accounted for four total touchdowns against Georgia Southern, throwing for 318 yards and one score while setting a career high with three rushing touchdowns. He passed for 129 yards and one touchdown against No. 6 Oklahoma. Thompson completed 18-of-27 passes for 270 yards and two touchdowns against Indiana, while adding a one-yard rushing touchdown. Thompson led Nebraska's comeback win at Rutgers. He completed 24-of-36 passes for 232 yards with two second-half touchdown passes as the Huskers overcame a 13-point halftime deficit. The next week at Rutgers, Thompson threw for 354 yards and two touchdowns, averaging a whopping 22.1 yards per completion. Thompson threw for 172 yards and one touchdown in less than a half while facing the nation's No. 1 pass defense against No. 17 Illinois, but an injury kept him out for the final series of the first half and the entire second half. The injury also kept him out of the Minnesota and Michigan games. He returned to start against Wisconsin and was Nebraska's leading rusher and passer, throwing for 120 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 33 yards. In the season finale at Iowa, Thompson led Nebraska to a win by completing 20-of-30 passes for 278 yards and three touchdowns.

  6. Which still makes me wonder if, even attempting to control for opponents, so many bad offenses in the B1G is still skewing the numbers. I'm not trying to talk down the defense. I think they have been superb. But it just makes me wonder if there is a bit of a bubble that might pop.

  7. It's rich that the same people complaining about $6.99/mo for Peacock to watch Nebraska football and basketball want us to go back to the Big XII...where we had to pay $39.99 per game to Fox Sports PPV *AT LEAST* once per season to watch Nebraska play Kansas State, Iowa State, Kansas, Baylor, Texas Tech, or Okie Lite.

  8. You’re cherry picking data The TD drive was two plays. One was a 1 yard run by Grant. The other was the fluke TD. The field goal was one big play (27 yards) by Ervin. Sims had 3 carries on the 8 play drive for 19 yards. 6.3 yards a carry.

  9. Yeah, NU’s momentum was so destroyed by Sims’ pick before half, they went on to take the opening kickoff of the 2nd half for a big return and then successfully run a trick play for a go-ahead TD. Then NU went on and dominated both sides of the ball for the next quarter and a half, and lead by 7 with the ball before Grant’s fumble. I would say the team responded well after Sims INT. I agree that Sims has turned out to be a very bad QB. But, he did enough good things in the Minnesota game for NU to win that game. People just want to take the easy way out and pin the loss on him.

  10. Sims played well enough in that Minnesota game, given what he was asked to do within the game plan. Yes, he had two first half INT’s, and the one before half was killer. But, he played well in the 2nd half to have NU up by 7 with the ball, midway thru the 4th quarter. It wasn’t Sims who had the false start inside the 5 yard line, when a TD puts NU ahead by 2 scores. Also, as I mentioned before, it wasn’t Sims who fumbled at midfield, giving Minnesota new life in the 4th. That was a team loss, not a QB loss.

  11. The elephant in the room about the Minnesota game is they are not even in that game without Sims running ability. I still think the only way this team wins another game is with Sims at QB. While not turning the ball over. Not good odds.

  15. I'm almost certain we started the season knowing it was a transitional year with question marks at every position — even prior to a decimating rash of injuries — and the most hopeful among us thought it might be nice if we had a realistic shot at six wins and a bowl game.

  19. Casey Thompson had NFL WR Trey Palmer to throw to. Palmer would hep any QB look good. Thompson couldn't run to save his life. In his only 3 games at FAU he threw 5 INT's...Take out Monmouth and he had a QBR of 5 against Clemson and a 12 against Ohio. Even keeping Monmouth, in 3 games he rushed for a whopping 2 yards...His only passing TD's (5) were against Monmouth...At NU he finished with -21 yards rushing, a 64 QBR and 17 TD's to 10 INT's..... He wasn't good. Palmer bailed him out.

  20. Look at Caseys stats before he got injured. It was Palmer. https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/gamelog/_/id/4362073/casey-thompson https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/gamelog/_/id/4362073/type/college/year/2022

  21. IMO, Sims running ability isn't any more impressive than healthy Haarbergs running ability. Sims is a much greater liability when it comes to ball security. If we turn the ball over one less time, we win that game. Logically we win the game with Haarberg at QB.

  23. Eh, I disagree man- Sims int to end the first half directly took points off of the board and just destroyed momentum we were building. Not to mention it was such an egregious mistake made by a "team leader" at the most important position on the field. Grant was known prior to the season to have fumbling issues and I believe was our 3rd string RB entering the game? You can make an argument either way. I'm just so disgusted by Sims presence in this progrum that I'm probably a bit biased in this lol. Good riddance to him man, didnt think it was possible for someone to pass the low bar set by sam keller as a total dud entering this program and Sims somehow found a way.

  29. Yep! They had nearly 50 fumbles on the season. McBride’s last defense definitely helped make up for all of those fumbles and turnovers. Unfortunately, a fumble (from Buckhalter, I think) near the goal line cost that ‘99 team the Texas game and a shot of the national championship. That team also almost blew a game to Colorado when Dan Alexander dropped a perfect option pitch which could have scored a TD late against CU. NU only won in OT because CU’s kicker shanked a chip-shot FG at the end of regulation.

  30. It's very unlikely for any of the 18 year olds to be able to help the program if they don't choose to play for the program... I can't think of anything more important to helping the program than attracting the very best of the 18 year olds to play for Nebraska by having great coaches, facilities, and, recently, NIL compensation.

  41. We can try and sugarcoat it as much as we want, but the reality is that the only bright spot of our offense has been the emergence of Emmett Johnson. Other than EJ who has been running with purpose, our offense is amongst the worst and most boring offenses in all of FBS and FCS. The truth of the matter is that if it hadn’t been for our defense playing lights out, we would be 2-8 right now. Our OL, although somewhat improved from last year, is still subpar. We do not have a QB, our TE is one and done type of player, and our WRs have butterfingers. And to top it all, we have an OC that does not understand the strengths and weaknesses of his offense. Sometimes it feels like he thinks he has Aaron Rodgers for QB. We substituted costly penalties with costlier turnovers. At this point, can anyone really see this offense scoring 20 points in a game? If any of the above is not true then you are definitely not “keeping it real”.

  44. I don’t know what to tell you. But if media is willing to give you $80M/year they get to tell you where and when the games will be aired. I mean it’s 1 game a year that isn’t exactly a marquee matchup. The NFL has a game on Prime every week. And they are going to have a Peacock only playoff game this year as well.
