Being 5000 miles from home being shot at, has a tendency to change ones perspective and values. I however have stated before, and will say it again here, this event has caused me to think that MRI, by his kneeling, is really just expressing the rights he was afforded by those who served. Thus, it come full circle as almost a thank you for fighting for my freedoms, so I can do what I just did.

Appreciate your thoughts, as always, TAKODA. I enjoy our conversations even when we don't completely agree. On MRI, it feels like we're not so far apart. In protesting, they demonstrate more introspection for the anthem than most probably ever have.

@Mike Mcdee I've always smoked with a traditional wood fired smoker. I would think the temps used would still be the same for a pellet grill, especially a GMG that has such precise temp control. I'd recommend going at 225-250 to shorten that smoke time. Turkey will pick up smoke fast and cooking slower isn't going to make it any more tender like it does with pork. No sense making it into a long ordeal. You should be able to smoke a 12 pound bird in 4-5 hours. Anyway that's what I would do.

Redux & Knapp- That's kind of what I was thinking. I've got a $400 off coupon they can't argue with and I figure if they're keeping the $1K rebate to offset making the first 2 payments that they will make, I should easily be able to get another $500 off list. They have seemed to be pretty low pressure and easy to get along with so fingers are crossed.

Well, bought the Soul today. Relatively painless and got it for real close to what I wanted to give. Probably the least stressful vehicle purchase I've ever made. Thanks for all the advice and suggestions fellas.

It was pretty obviously a political post. Why would you even post that America was triggered if it wasn't? You could post a million other catch phrases and not have had an issue.

@ZRod Like I said, maybe it's just me and maybe I'm wrong or in the minority. I guess stating that America is triggered doesn't throw it into some untouchable realm or necessarily make it political in nature by my standards. 

@Comfortably Numb I didn't see the status update in question but I know the photo you're referencing. I would say, on balance, sharing that topic in the status updates (given the context/intent of that photo and the general contentious nature of guns in America) is a bad idea. Adding a personal comment about people being 'triggered' is an additional bad idea because of that term's popularity and negative connotation recently.

Ultimately, and as you mentioned, it's not really about squelching political speech or freedom of expression. It's more about a) what our members tell us they want b) what's best for the board. Although P&R is a popular forum here, I will always fall back on this being a Huskerboard and we need to usually make that the priority consideration. When political status updates were really at a head last year, we lost some members and had people tell us they didn't want to join our board because of the overwhelming political tones. I think ultimately trimming down this talk in the status updates, while keeping P&R open, is a healthy and amicable balance for everyone involved.

I do appreciate your understanding, though. Sorry if I came off as a bit of a jerk above. The moderation aspect has helped us quite a bit but it wasn't a driving factor.

You don't want stainless, it's not worth it. I have the regular Daniel Boone, and it's pretty good on pellet use, and yet you can cook alot of food at once. PM me if you want some pics and more info.

The deed is done. I was actually wanting to go to the party and record the game but I will be staying home and watching it live. I don’t want to be “that guy” that gets everyone else sick. The walking pneumonia thing really came through for me. I haven’t felt sick at all but just can’t shake the cough. The worst part is the strained abdominal muscles. It kinda hurts you guise.

That was pretty much my point dudeguyy. Maybe it's just that I'm not yet ready to write this season off as just another wasted year but I'm not going for the pitchforks until it can't be avoided. Arky State played plenty well enough (and I don't care what conference they hail from-that was a good team) that I just can't turn to the dark side yet. It sure didn't take long for some others though. I may be there in a few weeks, who knows.

Arky State had a pretty decent offense, a simple scheme that they ran very well. OTOH, our defense played its first game as in the 3-4. They bent but didn't break. More points than I cared for but 7 of those were on the special teams. They do need to tighten that up, btw.

Time to take a breath and see what they do against Oregon.

Once again, it's not about being insecure or worried about what others may think, imo. It's just about common decency and not being a dick. Nebraska hired their whole coaching staff against their druthers. That's our only contribution (if you can call it that) to their success. How anybody thinks that gives NU fans any business showing up and stealing any of their thunder is beyond my ability to comprehend. Cheer for 'em, support 'em, whatever but we don't need 15k showing up in Husker attire or doing the inevitable GBR chant. If our team was worth a sh#t we'd have our own bowl game to worry about. We weren't and we don't. The Peach bowl is UCF vs Auburn, Nebraska has nothing to do with it.

@Melby @Savage Husker it’s more about not being jackasses. Nebraska has done nothing to warrant any sort of attention during the Peach Bowl. I get it, everyone is thirsty for the attention, but there’s a time and place for that. Don’t act like the 5 year old excited to show off your new toy. If the shoe was on the other foot you’d be pissed. To quote Melby from a couple of weeks ago. 

I don’t see it as this broad stroke that if you wear anything Husker down there that they’re automatically dicks. Who cares. People can still root for UCF without being jackals and cheering anything “GBR.” And yeah, that would be foolish and obnoxious. I’ve said before, I still think it sucks that Van Horn left, but even at the time I was never bitter and the decision made sense. I grew up an hour away from idolizing Griffey in the Kingdome just for him to leave for Cincy after Safeco was built for him. It sucked, but we still rooted for him and were never bitter at Cincy fans. 16 years later, my mariners friends and I shared beers with Reds fans in Cooperstown appreciating his greatness. It’s life, players and coaches come and go every year.
