Just when you think things in New Orleans can't get sillier...

@Enhance Normally I would agree with the take that you need to do enough to not let one flubbed call cost you the game. However, this particular non-call was worse than that. Just the fact of how blatant and obvious it was coupled with only 1:41 left in the game. It really was a game changer. They've got every right to bitch and moan for a long long time. But no, legal action to overturn it or re-start the game from that point is ridiculous. Sometimes bad calls have terrible consequences. I still have no idea what that ref, who was staring right at it, thought he saw. It's too bad with all the time they waste on replays that they couldn't have reviewed this one and got it right.

@JJ Husker And I get that viewpoint but, so long as we allow humans to participate in sports (), we are susceptible to these kinds of mistakes. A lot of people seem to want their cake and eat it on this situation - they want to be able to control this specific issue while largely being OK with other elements in their control/out of their control that they perceive to have not had as big of an impact, even if that's not wholly true.
I mean, people vilify players for dropping passes, missing field goals, throwing picks, getting penalties in key moments, etc. You name it. It's all part of the game and they can all cost you a game. But, a referee screws up and that's worthy of saying the Super Bowl is 'tainted' or we need to replay that part of the game. I just don't get that reaction.

Thinking about a Youtube TV account. Anybody tried it?

Have had it since January and am pretty happy with it. Wife watches a lot of shows on local cable TV so she doesn't miss those and it covers all the sports channels for me. Helps too that you get some decent movie channels.
I haven't had any issues with streaming quality or anything like that. They've also added MLB Network and NBA TV since I joined among other channels and my price hasn't changed. Also like being able to control it all from my phone.

And I thought K-State’s power towel video had no rival...

@krc1995 only if you were going Independent. No other conference will touch them now.
Well...okay, maybe the AAC. Or Sun Belt. But that’s it.

A pilot program is going to test paying Taco Bell managers $100k salaries in an effort to reduce turnover... forcing millions of Americans to question their life choices.

@Xmas32 it also helps that their product isn't a$$. Just sayin.
I mean if employee retention is what you want and it benefits the bottom line to pay them 2-3 times what you've been doing, fine. But it still isn't going to do much for a Taco Bell type place as far as increasing customers and sales. It might have the effect of lowering their costs tho.
-
@JJ Husker I agree that Taco Bell's pilot program is probably doomed to fail. Too many things working against it.

Looking for feedback! I'm planning to apply for an airline credit card/traveler's credit card and I'm currently down to two options - I'm either going to get a general one with Chase Sapphire Preferred Rewards or an airline specific one with Delta Skymiles. But, I'd love to get thoughts/opinions from anyone who travels a lot. Who do you use? Pros/cons? Would you go with a different rewards program now if you could? Thanks!

I use a Chase Sapphire Preferred and its great. Although if you are considering a Chase Sapphire Preferred, get the Chase Sapphire Reserve instead. It's annual fee is $350 extra per year, but you get $300 each year in travel vouchers, more cash back per expenditures, and free global entry.
Both cards provide free rental car insurance and insurance for electronic purchases.

Thank you, UNL, for cancelling classes on Tuesday as well as today.

About a year ago, I found out that double spacing after a period had no longer been necessary for some time. I still feel disgusted with myself for not knowing this all these months later.

Coach Osborne dropped an interesting conference expansion nugget at this morning's Big Red Today when asked about Nebraska's shuffle from the Big 12 to the Big 10.
I'm pretty sure this was heavily rumored, and maybe it's common knowledge now, but he said the Big 12 South had "agreed in principle" to move to the Pac 12, and that this was one of the biggest reasons we had shopped around for a different conference.

@Redux IMO, I don't believe so--one thing that was appealing about the B1G and that we pride ourselves on is that DoNU is pretty good, academically, and we have been looking for some time to improve on that.
We've improved our academics in spades with the B1G, and it's gotten the notice of schools like Oklahoma that are in a similar situation. Unless Oklahoma has a course change in their future goals re: academics, academic improvement via the B1G is why Oklahoma to the B1G down the road will have a very strong likelihood (even though their idiot fans want the SEC ).
Joining the SEC would have had an adverse effect on our academics--we wouldn't have partnerships with the few Big XII schools that did happen to remember they were a school first, and the SEC doesn't have any sort of academic consortium (or any sort of inter-conference academic programs of note). At best, our academics in the SEC would be moribund.
Now, IIRC, the Pac-12 (and the Pac-10) did have something similar, but not as encompassing, as the B1G's academic consortium. So to respond to your question, perhaps we could have been moving buddies with Colorado to the Pac-12 instead?
-
I don't think the PAC 10 would have been very appealing to Nebraska, geographically speaking it's further than most the B1G trips and they don't really fit into either division very well. A yearly match with USC may be appealing but still.
With as hot as the SEC was in 2010-2011 an invite would have been pretty hard to turn down. Joining a footprint where recruiting is almost on cruise control and you get national love in the form of rankings without doing anything.
-
@Redux I agree, a Pac-10 invite wouldn't have been appealing, but it still would have been better than our current situation in the Big XII (though not by much). And don't forget matches with UCLA, or Oregon, or Washington (all teams that were certainly competent at the time).
And I bet it would have been hard to turn a SEC invite down...if we had someone other than Dr. Tom at the helm. IMO, folks like Dr. Tom are quick to remember that Nebraska is more than football, and I don't think he cares for the dirty pool the SEC willingly plays in.Now, if it's an Eichorst, or maybe even a Moos making the decision back then, I'd agree. But not with Dr. Tom at the helm.

I haven't really followed much recruiting this year, but I find it humorous we signed a guido kicker.

Need some help fellow Huskerboard members - my broadcasting course is coming to a close, and we have a three-part series as our final project. Each part will be between 1-2 minutes. Any suggestions or ideas?
-
There are 433 users online right now. If each donated $5, the board would make $2,165. I believe that'd be 333% above goal. Come on peeps.
-
Hey ya'll, the weekend is almost up. Wouldn't you like to end it on a high note by reaching the $500 donation mark for the board? We're at $414. If you CAN help, do it! You can join the rest of the donators up on Smug Mountain!

Just returned from a traditional Indian/Hindu wedding in Chicago. Best wedding I've ever been to and they know how to throw a freakin' party.

No elephants either except in some designs.
@knapplc yes they have. I heaped a whole pile of what I thought were spicy meatballs onto my plate, only to have someone tell me later in the night they were vegan. The woman getting married has been a vegetarian for years and now I completely understand why.

Wow - we just returned from our honeymoon yesterday and had wonderful support from our family and friends throughout the whole wedding process, ceremony, reception... you name it! Couldn't be happier and Barbados was terrific. Highly recommend renting a car if you ever visit there - driving on the opposite side of the road is laughably dangerous to get used to the first time.

Urban sure is bending over a lot there on the sideline. Looks like he's coming down with some sort of illness again...

If you could have one routine task done for you all the time, through no effort of your own, what would it be?
I waffle between shaving or anything to do with dishes. Trimming nails has always been a pain to me, but I don't do that every day.

Two important Rick Moranis updates:
1) Apparently, he was sucker punched in NYC? Whoever they are should get a life sentence.
2) I was creeping on his IMDB page just now and saw that a a movie called "Shrunk" is in pre-production. I would love to see him back on the big screen.

People really do love to draw attention to a certain sports personality (whose name rhymes with lip clayless) whenever he says something outrageous, but then they wonder why this dude has a job and attracts so much attention.
Even mentioning his name or quoting a tweet to complain about him is what he and ESPN are hoping for. He's a bombastic personality. Want to shut him up? Gotta stop giving him attention. Shows that fail are the ones that don't have eyeballs or interest.- Show previous comments 5 more

“At FOX Sports, we are proud of Dak Prescott for publicly revealing his struggle with depression and mental health,” the network said in a statement. “No matter the cause of the struggles, FOX Sports believes Dak showed tremendous courage which is evident in both his leadership on the Dallas Cowboys and in his character off the field. We do not agree with Skip Bayless’ opinion on Undisputed this morning. We have addressed the significance of this matter with Skip and how his insensitive comments were received by people internally at Fox Sports and our audience.”
-
What Fox should've said:
"Look... we know that Skip has trash takes, but y'all keep giving him attention and making us a ton of money, and what he said wasn't reaaaaaally bad enough to force us to have to remove him. So... I mean yeah we feel bad about what he said, and we'll try to make him not be so mean in the future, but otherwise we're just going to carry on."

The best part about Nebrasketball doing well, in relation to this forum, is the ability to escape the football forum and find some positive Husker sports talk this time of year.
-
I sometimes like to peruse opponent message boards after a Husker win. The losers typically blame factors they would barely mention in a victory, and they often give the victor less credit than they deserve. It's good perspective for how poor some of our own arguments can sound.
