  1. Is the Michigan game now a q1 win? Or is that only calculated at the time of playing them?

If Maryland gets in and we don't (and our end results are similar), then I'm not gonna believe people saying team history doesn't matter. Maryland is a basketball school, and that'd be the tie breaker.

@Huskerzoo I completely understand. Been there myself...but this season I kinda went in looking for improvement and for Miles to try and keep his job....so it’s been a pleasant surprise.

  2. It would be awesome if it didn't feel like my brain was trying to escape my skull.

Walgreens cheaper version of Excedrin Migraine, the stuff works and within 15 mins.  It what @Reduxsaid is true, then you'll have that for a week or 2.

I hope it's not brain cysts.

  3. Just put in my notice at my job a month in advance. Told by my boss that I should have trusted them more and told them sooner. Also told by my boss I might lose my benefits because I'm only part time during the summer. Take home message: Don't notify employer in advance that you're leaving, just stop showing up. What BS.

@Huskerzoo Yeah, moving around in academic jobs can be tough on any relationship between you and more senior members of the department you are leaving. One reason is because filling a open faculty line can be a 1-2 yr prospect for the department. Honestly, you got to do what is best for you.

As far as when you should tell your chair you are on the market, you got to read your own situation. It does not always pay to tell your chair you are leaving early in the process because I have heard stories about chairs trying to sandbag your candidacy. On the other hand, I have heard riffs can form between you and your former colleagues if you wait too late or leave under uncertain terms.

Moving past all of these generalities and worst case scenarios, from what I know about your situation, you are making a good move. It is hard living apart for a spouse, so getting appointments at the same university is awesome.

Employees are supposed to give employers advance notice, but how often do employers give advance notice that they're cutting an employee loose?

Moving around in education sucks...It is almost like they try to shame you for leaving or wanting to leave.

I always thought it much more logical to have the day after your birthday (or 5th of July) off to recover from said celebration

  6. Not gonna lie, I'm equally excited about the potential of the 5$BoBC as I am about HCSF's first win. Best trophy in football.

  7. Off to Indiana for a very cold football game.

Almost decided to make the trek, but Nebraska is 0-2 in games I've attended this year. That, and the Vikings are in KC this weekend....Can't miss that.

Leaning towards the colonoscopy.  Too many pissy attitude cowards during offseason.  Same really during season but at least there are games to distract me from getting annoyed by it.

  11. Our recruiting right now kind of confuses me. Our spot to prospect ratio seems way off. It could just be we're making sure we don't get left high and dry, but I have no clue who we're going to take and who is left out.

@ladyhawke I'm a professor. I love it. As of today, I have 14 projects up and running and teaching 2-3 classes a semester. School psych isn't my jam, but yeah we need good ones.

Imagine that. Diaco would have ruined him in Lincoln, ruined him at OU, and is “thriving” in Grinch’s defense? Go figure

  15. Suggestions for a place to eat in Lincoln for 20 adults, 4 babies and 2 kids?

Looking for something nice but not fancy. Right now I'm looking at Lazlos but want more options.

      Oh, wedding rehearsal places.

Scratch Phat Jack's, Momo's, and all those places.

I'd call Toast. They have pretty decent food, good beers on tap (& a full bar, and a room large enough to accommodate your group that can be sealed off from the rest of the restaurant.  I'm pretty sure with enough advance notice they'd reserve that space for you.

Lazlo's down south (56th & Old Cheney) has a room that should accommodate that group, too. And it's pretty easy to get to from anywhere in town.

Those would be the first places I'd call for a rehearsal dinner.

      Good luck!

Green Gateau downtown is nice. Lincoln doesn’t have many great dining options. For good food, I usually recommend driving to Omaha.

Really, no Misty's yet? Downtown one is nice and pretty casual. Fireworks would be good too.

  16. Sunken gardens were insanely hot but a great place to get married.

  22. Was thinking of doing a series of posts during the off season on the psychological (scientific) explanation of why HCSF's coaching methods work and work well. Don't want to put effort into it if people wouldn't be interested though. Would folks be interested?

Last year it was about 8 hours of flying and 2 time zones. This year it's a 4 hour drive. Next year we might be back to flying unless something else pans out. It's just exhausting and we're talking about kids and whatnot.

I own a landscaping company. Winter time is for yard clean-ups and landscape/tree trimming.... I always try and give the guys a significant amount of time off around Christmas, because work is slower anyways, and selfishly, it's my favorite time of year. haha.
