Has anyone seen any advanced metrics or anything to explain why our BB team regressed so much?

Why hasn't Rex been getting more carries?

What should I do for date night? It's kind chilly and cloudy out west.

Can anyone help me resize an image without losing quality? I would like to get it up to a movie poster size and it's relatively small. I don't have access to photoshop or anything.

How am I sweating so much when I'm not even moving and the temperature isn't bad?

@NM11046, you just reminded me of another movie I have to add to my most re-watchable movies list.

Writing grants in an unsupportive academic environment is the most soul sucking thing I've ever done.

@teachercd As a young professor, tenure is like strapping a time-bomb on your chest. You have 5 years to prove to the university you have a stable, productive, and independently-funded research program with the added charges of service and teaching expectations. The dream of becoming an old professor is secondary to the hope you can keep your job following your tenure review.
-
"Strapping a bomb to your chest! Haha! I bet it is! I thought it was 7 years though, but still...it is amazing that the system is set up in such a "good ole boy" way...
Basically you are getting hazed for 5 years (or less!) and then once you are "in" you are pretty protected (right?).
My buddy is a Prof at PSU now...his last stop before that was in New Zealand.

The difference between pre-tenured and tenured status is that colleges can choose to not renew the contract and terminate a professor without cause or reason during the probationary, pre-tenured period. The university has to demonstrate incompetence or unprofessional conduct before firing a tenured professor. So, tenure provides some job security, but it does not make you bullet-proof. You still get evaluated for promotions and raises; you just get the right to be fired with cause.

It's messed up that Tyrann Mathieu is considered a better prospect than Rex

I'm noticing more and more that the debbie downers are the ones who I don't recognize as constant contributors to the board.

I've been on this board for 8 years. I got off the Bo bandwagon a few weeks ago. You won't here me rant about getting Bo fired. I will state the obvious 5 year debacle on undisciplined football, stupid penalties, timely turnovers ... it never changes. I listen to a lot of crap on this board over my tenure ... I think I have a right to speak up about the consistent problems that have not changed. By the way, I don't believe I am included in your post ... but just stating wher...

Dissertation defense in 3 hours. A little stressed out.

It's officially Dr. Huskerzoo now.

Because I'm the one that's cleaning them up, no more food posts in the football forum. I'm going to start issuing warning. It's annoying, just stay on topic.

Okay okay, I'll volunteer to be the one who defines what's bad and what isn't
Actually, I do understand that there was some legitimate discussion going on in that thread. But as happens from time to time and much more recently, there are a few posters who want to beat the same dead horse in every thread. Hopefully when "those" guys start yet another thread for that purpose we can Enola Gay the sh#t out of it.

Just put in my notice at my job a month in advance. Told by my boss that I should have trusted them more and told them sooner. Also told by my boss I might lose my benefits because I'm only part time during the summer. Take home message: Don't notify employer in advance that you're leaving, just stop showing up. What BS.

@Huskerzoo Yeah, moving around in academic jobs can be tough on any relationship between you and more senior members of the department you are leaving. One reason is because filling a open faculty line can be a 1-2 yr prospect for the department. Honestly, you got to do what is best for you.
As far as when you should tell your chair you are on the market, you got to read your own situation. It does not always pay to tell your chair you are leaving early in the process because I have heard stories about chairs trying to sandbag your candidacy. On the other hand, I have heard riffs can form between you and your former colleagues if you wait too late or leave under uncertain terms.
Moving past all of these generalities and worst case scenarios, from what I know about your situation, you are making a good move. It is hard living apart for a spouse, so getting appointments at the same university is awesome.

Not my best weekend. Broke up with the girlfriend and had to go to the ER for an acute lower UTI.

My dissertation just got published.

Got off the bus today with a thermos of coffee in my bag. It opened as I was getting off. All over the front of white shorts.

My Boss today: When I don't respond to your e-mail, it's your job to double check, not my job to respond to the e-mail.

Ideal hires: Steal Coombs to replace Stewart. Mel Tucker Replaces Banker. Promote Thompson when we get our 10th coach slot.

Who is the most interesting person on the board and how do you pronounce their username?

Being put in a situation where I'm not getting credit for the work I did on a publication, but can't say anything because the first author has strong influence over my career. Not thrilled.

I've run into a similar issue in corporate America with my boss. Worked my ass off on a project, got it going and was getting accolades, then she saw the upside and reassigned me to take credit for my work. I think she's having problems with karma right now as a result though.
Just be patient and keep a journal/track of these grievances, so if something more serious comes around, you can show a pattern/history.
-
@ZRod yeah, sorry was typing late last night. It's unethical for him to not give me proper credit. Also unethical for him to retaliate if I were to bring something up. He'll still do both. This was from my last job, so the finished products of the stuff I designed are starting to roll out, this will probably come up about 3 more times. However, he's still my best bet at landing a grant, still need him to help figure out the two body problem, he also will be a reviewer on a large amount of my publications.
There are some people you just can't afford to piss off.
-
I don't want you walking into a lose-lose situation. Why is he the best bet at you landing a grant? Sounds like you're working together on research and without him you wouldn't be able to complete the research? I just don't want you to find yourself in a position where he's your best bet at landing a grant and then he pulls some sort of stunt that doesn't benefit you in any way, shape, or form.
I'm also very unfamiliar with the grant process. How much does the reputation of the submitter play in the awarding of the grant?
-
I've been hard on him all season, but...Lamar Jackson, kid might just be exactly what we need next season.

@Redux that's why I said next year.
In all honesty, I think a strong sports psychologist would go a long way for some of our players. Lightbourne and Jackson among those who could benefit the most.
-
attitude and effort is much better. Agree with @StPaulHusker, tackling still needs to get better if he wants to make it in the league. Several times it looks like he tries to go low with the shoulder rather than initiating contact through the player.

Landed an interview at the University of Wisconsin school of psychiatry.

Thanks for all the support earlier. Successfully defended my dissertation. Life is good.
