  1. Dang, Severe's show on the OWH is coming to an end.  I"m not surprised, given some cryptic tweets he has sent out recently, but I have enjoyed listening to him.  It sucks the show won't be around for football season.

I don't doubt that Benning is a good dude, he can just get on the nerves from time to time, especially when he doesn't have someone to help ferry him through a conversation. I kind of feel like he's going to have to be the traffic cop on his new show.

@ColoradoHusk Up here in MN, they have 1 show that talks a lot of sports. The morning show does some sports but they are across the board it has made them VERY successful. I found myself getting fairly bored at times with 1620 because the same 4 stories are talked about by all the shows. I get Husker football has to be the driving factor but I think a good mix of shows helps break it up. Have one show that is heavy sports/heavy guests. One show that is more goofy(think Schick and Nick) and one that maybe goes more serious topics(cant get too political). KFAN up here in MN does that and they have some of the most successful shows in every timeslot.

1620 was at its beak when it had schick/nick and Kugler/Severe. They were very different shows in some aspects but were able to capture their audience.

Being different is exactly what I appreciate about Josh/John compared to the other two. There show is much more wide ranging, and as I said earlier, though he's not my favorite kind of host, Josh is very good.

NE needed that immediate near red zone fumble recovery. Plus two times of the Falcons taking themselves out of FG range. Plus two more TDs and two PATs. Plus a TD in OT.

      Crazy.

By PATs I mean 2pt conversions, I guess.

  3. How many of you guys like the movie, Rudy?

This was a topic on a radio show this morning, as Saturday Night Live did a spoof of it this past weekend.

Personally, I think it's a terrible movie, and I don't get how any non-Notre Dame fan can like it.

I think Carter will be the biggest loss. His blocking and all around game is really important to us this year.

      They've struggled in his absence.

      ColoradoHusk

Carter will be a big loss, he is a unique talent that isn't elsewhere on the roster (although I think Cotton/Foster both did ok last 2 weeks).

Unpopular Opinion Alert - Rob Zatechka was on The Bottom Line with Mike'l Severe and he said that he and many former players haven't been happy that the "Husker Prayer" was made public.  Zatechka said that he's happy the fans have embraced it, but he also said that he wishes it would have stayed internal as a "players only" thing.

Well, we know “the team that can’t be beat” is wrong. They’ve been getting beat like a drum for years. I like ‘Til we can’t be beat much better. At least that expresses a goal and not an outright lie.

    3. knapplc

The Husker prayer getting out has easily been worth 1.5 losses per season.

  8. It's being reported that Kyler Murray is going to forego baseball and enter the NFL draft.  I know that most people will think "why turn down all that baseball money", but since Murray is a QB, he can probably earn more in the NFL, than in baseball.

If he's drafted near the top of the 1st round he will get a guaranteed $20-30M in his rookie contract (and at least $10M if he's anywhere in the first round).  If he is halfway successful, he will be looking at $150 guaranteed in the NFL after 5 years.

Also, NFL QB's don't get beat up like they used to, so there isn't the physical damage which some people argue for baseball.

      ColoradoHusk

Murray is looking at $30-50M guaranteed in the next 5 years in football.  In baseball, he's at $5M right now, and isn't guaranteed to hit the majors in the next 2 years, if ever.  From what I hear, he is very raw in baseball.  He just has amazing speed and a great arm.

Maybe he talked with Bubba Starling?

    4. Moiraine

      Moiraine

Football is the far better sport. Lots of $ either way and he picked the sport that's more fun to play. QBs also get a lot more attention than any position in baseball other than maybe pitcher but maybe not even pitcher.

Baseball isn't as bad for the health (despite it possibly being safer for QBs now) so that's the only real negative, imo.

Let's see how this season plays out. I think it's a tough one, but long term I don't think that's the case. Maybe it's not as elite as we'd hope and so he should go eventually, but it's not that bad either.

Anyway, this was more about OSU. People were abuzz about the Andersen hire. Every time they landed a 4* it was news. There was some argument that they'd do better without Riley. GA is now 7-22.

@zoogs are you watching the same games everyone else is?  NU isn't competing against any teams with a pulse, and also has the bad habit of losing to teams we shouldn't.

I see where you're coming from Zoogs. Gerry hadn't quite "earned" that respect in our eyes as far as on the field. Off the field I don't know, but it looks like the guy is committed. The year he had last year has everyone's attention now. Now he's a captain. There's no denying that leadership anymore.

  16. Greg Schiano could end up with $20.75 M for Tennessee for being "fired without cause".  It's a sticky situation, but I think Schiano would have a good case.  http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/21742751/greg-schiano-earned-277m-6-plus-years-scrapped-tennessee-deal

    3. RunMickeyRun02

      RunMickeyRun02

IMO it seemed more like Ten folks just hated the hire and dig some digging so they could stop the hire. Yeah, the stories could be true but it's really a he said/he said kind of thing.

In other words if Tennessee had hired Saban no one would have bothered turning over all the rocks to find something damning.

    4. ColoradoHusk

      ColoradoHusk

Agree, @RunMickeyRun02.  Clay Travis was the big Tennessee guy who was mad at the hire, and dug up this stuff at Penn State and started the Twitter storm.  That exploded on campus, and Schiano was all of a sudden "not the hire".
