  3. What will be our pre-season ranking next year after we finish this season out 3-0? Top 10? Top 25? Unranked? Give me your number. (It is not hypothetical that we finish this season 3-0, it's fact) Disclaimer: ScottyIce bears no responsibility on your well-being after following his topics.

  4. Is obamacare perfect? Hell no. So why didnt repubs try and fix the bill we already have in place? Makes no sense to come out with an even worse bill and try and push it through within 2 weeks. Are there freeloaders on medicaid? Yes. But working in healthcare I can tell you that 90% of the people on medicaid have major health issues and/or work but do not have high paying jobs. A lot of kids on medicaid also while their parents have insurance. Most likely because they have some sort of pre-exisiting condition that would bankrupt the parents if the kid had regular insurance. Thats the reason I voted for medicaid expansion. I see it first hand everyday, the pros and cons.

  5. I think we’ll go 8-0 over the next 8 but I’d never bet it. I also hope we don’t circle the Ohio State game. Last time we did that Texas beat us.

  6. I probably should have made this post sooner - like this weekend - but I always kind of planned to do so tonight. It's just been a long @#$ day. Anyway, I know our reach on this board is fairly small, and that's fine. We've got a really interesting crop of voices here and I'm really glad we can all shoot the sh#t about political stuff and learn from each other. Being able to discuss this stuff with all of you is really neat. Anyway, to the extent I can influence anybody here, I just wanted to ask anybody who has yet to vote and was undecided or didn't have an opinion to vote Yes on Initiative 427 (Medicaid Expansion) in Nebraska on your ballot tomorrow. I say this as someone going into healthcare - this shouldn't be a partisan issue for us. It shouldn't be left vs. right or haves vs. have nots or anything like that. We have an opportunity to twist our pols arms since they'd never do this for us and help extend healthcare to those among us who are less well off. Expanding Medicaid would not only extend coverage to upwards of 90,000 Nebraskans, but it would be a boon for the state economy by keeping workers healthier and protecting rural hospitals, many of whom are vulnerable, from bankruptcy. The federal government currently covers 93% of the costs and will cover 90% of the costs after 2020. We would only have to come up with 10% of the total costs of this move. Here's a study done by two economics professors at UNK who found the move would bring almost $1T in net economic benefit back to the state over a decade if we'd expanded when first possible a few years ago. Let's just help our fellow human beings again. Going to the doctor shouldn't be a luxury some of us can't afford. If conservatives here want to go hog wild and implement work requirements or whatever else so be it. We've got to put the ball in their court first. Please vote yes on 427.

  7. You're blaming the Democrats for the Republicans not being able to pass healthcare while they have had complete control of Washington for 2 years. Seriously? This coming after several years of them campaigning on fixing it. Seriously?

  8. Healthcare in this country is absolutely insane. We need to move towards what is working so well in every other civilized country when it comes to healthcare. (I'm sure you'll notice they are all in less debt than us too). Is expanding Medicaid the answer? I don't know. The entire system needs to be revamped. You sound like you are squarely against healthcare becoming affordable though.

  11. There is also a statistically supported school of thought that it's not a big problem to begin with. The immigrant population is filling jobs that most Americans don't want to take, and in the process they become American consumers, adding far more to the economy than they take away. The number of Latin American immigrants hasn't been swelling, it's actually been dropping, particularly in Mexico. Many of these people are family-first conservative Catholics who have long tended to vote GOP, especially in rural areas, but are less inclined when the Republicans are demonizing and racially profiling them in order to whip up their angry white base. They don't like being taken for granted by Democrats either, but when push comes to shove, Donald Trump's rhetoric is hard to embrace.

  12. This is crazy. My wife lived in Dodge City during the 2004 election, and there were plenty of places to vote. It is a decently sized town. She voted at a church or community center that year, without any problem. We currently live in a town almost half the size of Dodge City, and we have 3 or 4 voting precincts. What is happening in Dodge City now is an intentional effort to limit voter turnout, with an obvious impact on the high number of low-income Hispanic voters.

  16. Ramming it through lmao. It took 8 months with multiple bipartisan discussion and multiple drafts. It took a lot longer than two weeks which is how long it took repubs to push their s#!tty bill through before the CBO report could come out to show everyone what a sham it was...

  17. McCains vote was to shoot down the republican healthcare bill i mentioned, not a bill trying to fix the ACA. The republicans have shown nothing these last two years of solely running govt other than pushing bills through as fast as possible without any bipartisan discussion, doing things to benefit their own party and not the country and doing anything they can to own the libs. I sure hope with dems winning the house they will do whats best for the country, even if it goes against their own party. Thats how we fix this division, start working together for the benefit of the regular people.

  25. Hello my fellow Big 10 people - My friend and I are making the trip to Lincoln, NE for the first time (from Denver, CO) to watch our Spartans play Nebraska in a few weeks. I've been looking at tickets (2) and noticed that some rows on the sideline are too close to the field where the players may block your view a lot of the time. Is this the case for say, section 25 or 27 row D? Will we have a decent view at the game or is it going to be staring at the backs of the players? what row should I be ideally looking for? We are willing to pony up $$$ for good seats. ANY insight would be appreciated. Also, if you have tips what to do Friday night, Saturday before and after game - would love to hear it. Thanks y'all, much appreciated.

  30. Well I don't support late-term abortions. I don't personally want ANY abortions. I just think it's a constitutional right that each woman should make for herself. I don't support full-blown socialism or far-left ideas. I just want to try something different on healthcare and don't think the vulnerable should be made to suffer at the hands of the government. Is that so absurd?

  32. The Dems were the ones to give us the travesty of Obamacare by ramming it through and changing Senate rules to pass it. It's been unpopular since day 1 and remains unpopular. The problem with Obamacare is that it failed to address the rising costs of health insurance and focused primarily on access to Obamacare. The GOP had 95% of its elected officials in this Congress on board to pass updates and then John McCain decided to vote against it. Now with a split Congress perhaps both sides can work together.

  40. Unranked. Maybe if we had one more win and won a bowl game and were impressive doing so, we might be ranked. Early season rankings don’t mean much anyway if you don’t win in November so why not rank Nebraska. Better to be unranked.

  41. I was thinking about this too. I think we’ll be in the “Others receiving votes” and move into the top 25 if we get to 1-0 or 2-0.

  42. I don't think a 5-7 team the year before starts the next season ranked. Michigan State plays Ohio State before us. It's quite likely when we play them they are unranked. Iowa is on a two game skid. It's also likely they lose to Northwestern before we play. It's a toss up whether they'll be ranked or not. We're 2-7 with Minnesota really being the only win we can hang our hat onto who just got obliterated by Illinois this past weekend.
