  4. Please, no need to be insulting. I am a long time fan who remembers the glory days, and as such I am entitled to have an opinion of my own as to what I expect from a rival.

  6. (To the tune of a popular Christmas Carol) It's the most, use less poll, of the year! It's the slop sloppiest raaaaaaaanking of alllllll! There'll be teams out of place, not in the race, based off numbers of yore! There'll be blatant campaigning, and lazy number ranking from coaches who find it a chore! It's the most use less poll The slop sloppiest poll It's the most use less poll, OF THE YEEEEEAAAAR!

  9. From the Bob Devaney era (1962) through the Osborne years until the end of the Big 8 in 1995, either Nebraska or Oklahoma won or shared the conference title every year. That made for an epic rivalry, not just a rivalry game. While we are not currently great, the return to greatness is expected under Scott Frost. Yes, Iowa is a rival, mostly due to proximity and placement in the same conference. So I can only speak for myself, but I yearn for the days when the champion of the B1G West is decided the day after Thanksgiving in a head to head match up involving the Huskers. And if that is Wisconsin, Iowa or Northwestern, then we have the making of a great rivalry!

  10. These threads always turn into a bunch of people being offended that everyone doesn't see Iowa the way they see Iowa.

  11. Because many fans still remember Husker football in the year 2000 and the thirty something years before it. We were not just a top team, we were the top team.

  15. This is what it's about. It's disappointing that even the B1G has forgotten what made these things great and have started manufacturing corporate BS trophies. The only one I recognize is that chair for Nebraska in the current conference.

  16. I don't care if you win 12 games and a conference championship this season...you ain't gettin that chair!

  17. I'm guessing he is absolutely so ripped and looking like a monster coming out of off season workouts....that the staff is purposely keeping him hidden so South Alabama doesn't cancel their game due to players quitting from fear.

  18. I'll just put it this way, if we are commonly worried about how we will fare against Minnesota, we have much larger problems.

  25. It really isn't all that odd that Nebraska fans don't consider many teams to be our rival. We're a blue blood (or borderline blue blood) team. We were definitely still considered a blue blood when all of us over 15 were growing up. There aren't many blue bloods, so there aren't many other fan bases who are that picky about rivals. We're a bit snooty about it but it makes sense. We want our rival(s) to be other blue blood teams, and the only team that qualifies for us is (was) Oklahoma. All blue blood teams other than Nebraska, if we still count, seem to have other blue bloods (or close to it) as rivals. Michigan - Ohio State Alabama - Auburn (not usually considered a blue blood but close to it and has won national championships) Ohio State - Michigan Oklahoma - Texas Notre Dame - USC (?) Nebraska - ? USC - Notre Dame, UCLA Texas - Oklahoma I think Iowa will become a rival in some senses but I don't think we're ever going to think they check off all the boxes unless Nebraska continues to go downhill and never wins anything that matters ever again. Or if Iowa wins some important stuff and both teams get better. Speaking of blue bloods, we've probably all seen the chart going around that has a bunch of different variables used to define it. Here's another one that's really simple but it separates the usual 8 teams.

  27. Many of us believe that our rival should be a traditional top team in the conference... not the likes of Colorado or Missouri, or Iowa or Northwestern.

  38. Same concept as the TE pop pass they ran in 2017, just with different personnel. The Minnesota game is a great game, though. So many creative plays, so many great play calls. I particularly like the sequence in the mid 3rd quarter, after they got within a score. Fleck has to be thinking, given our record and how that game was starting to turn, that we are just gonna run it, shorten the game, and get outta town. And Nebraska comes out in two tight that whole drive. They’re in a 7 man box, Washington gashes them. Go to an 8 man box, single safety near side, Washington gashes them. But Frost was setting them up, had the tight ends together on the near side, with the back on the wide side of Martinez further showing strength to the near side, forcing that safety there for run support. But the twin receivers were to the wide side, and the next play Martinez rolls that way, a tight end runs a corner route to further pull that single safety away and Morgan runs a post route to the now completely empty middle of the field for an easy TD.
