  1. I can't read it but by headline alone this is why we ended up with Callahan and Riley. From the outside Nebraska fires 9 win coaches and questions coaches after a season and half. The start of Scott's tenure hasn't gone the way many thought or hoped, but he's universally regarded as a great coach. Almost everyone knew this was a massive rebuilding project. If we for some reason ran Frost off a legit coaching prospect would never consider Nebraska again. The failures of this team fall in part on Frost and in part the players and prior staffs, but Frost needs his contract played out. If he doesn't fix it then that's probably just where Nebraska is at. I have no doubt Frost can fix this and as painful as Saturday was Frost needs to get the chance to figure it out.

  3. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” --MLK This is a quote Lebron tweeted. This is also the same league that went all in on BLM, about police brutality. The stars and coaches make political comments about injustice within the Trump presidency. Now when asked directly about China, they skirt the issue. They should be just as strong a critic when it could hurt their pocketbook, as they are when it doesn't impact their pocketbook.

  4. In Frost's two recruiting classes: 2018 - 3 O linemen 2019 - 6 O linemen. In 2019, 5 of them potentially are going to tackles. FYI....2 more in 2020 with one almost a 5*. He is working to build good depth and he knows we need good tackles.

  5. I keep going back to the O line on this issue. I think it was Frost that said after the game that it's very disappointing to see our O line get pushed around like they did. He claims he saw them push iron in the weight room. It's not a strength issue. I believe him on that. So, that leaves technique or effort. Right now, I have to believe it's effort and the lack of effort is leading to bad technique. You have to go up to the line with the attitude you are going to kick the guy's a$$ across from you every play. I'm not seeing that. Now, obviously this doesn't apply to trying to block someone like Young from OSU. There hasn't been anyone that's been able to block him all year. But, when you see a guard get totally pancaked in a bull rush where he didn't hardly even slow down the defender......that's lack of effort that leads to lack of technique. I think this is what Frost is trying to get to by saying this to the team.

  6. You guys haven't read it, but are jumping to conclusions. Dirk never said Frost wouldn't do it, or couldn't do it. He mostly said that Frost's own evaluation about what this team was going to be in 2019 was way off, and he suggests that it's reasonable to have a little doubt going forward when Frost makes his bold statements about the future of the team. It was a completely reasonable article.

  8. Regarding this speech: It's hard to believe that seven games into the season Frost has to give a speech like this. If these guys aren't all in right now, why are they in that locker room?

  9. Also the record of an occasional lunatic who alienated fans and would have been off to greener pastures as soon as his coaching stock rose. It’s more than just record.

  11. Look, I think Frost is the man for the job and the complete return to relevance will take longer than most of us will want. However I’ve been less than overwhelmed by him as a complete Head Coach thus far. There have been multiple times that he’s been out-coached on Game Day & for all of his “no fear of failure” talk he usually is a waaaay conservative play caller. The good news is, he’s bright & he cares & has good support from people like Moos & Osborne. I also think there is more need right now for him to adjust to the B1G than there is for the B1G to adjust to Frost’s Nebraska. Own that.

  12. Then this is just irresponsible journalism. He wrote a head line that makes it sound like the support for Frost is waning and stuck it behind a pay wall.

  14. I would take it as, "we need to stop focusing on who knows how much of the playbook, and start focusing on who can tackle, block, catch, and run". Reset the depth chart, baby!

  15. I welcome our professional athletes, Hollywood stars, etc. using their platform for political purposes, awareness, and fighting for justice. Jackie Robinson, Mohammed Ali, Tommie Smith & John Carlos, Bill Walton, Ronald Reagan, et al. But some people don't like to be reminded of police brutality, systemic discrimination, endless wars, etc. But I do think Lebron and some others in the NBA have stuck their foot in their mouths here. Not a good look.

  16. If there are older dudes that still aren't trying why are they playing? If you're the kind of team that struggles to make a bowl game anyway give some young hungry players more playing time.

  17. Everytime I see one of these posts, it makes me think of a s#!tty parent desperately lobbing empty threats at their kid hoping to change their behavior. We shouldn't end the sellout streak. We should calm the f#&% down, understand that this is year 2 of a complete rebuild and enjoy watching the process. People that crashed from their offseason sugar high dreams need to embrace reality and show a little patience. Our unity is our strength. We need everyone in this thing pulling in the same direction, fans included. The rest of this season is going to be bumpy. Sit back, enjoy the good, don't let the bad f#&% up your week and look forward to brighter days.

  18. I can't read the article, but. . .talk is cheap. At the same time, press conference quotes are meaningless and shouldn't have much read into them. Coach Frost said some nice things about his team, he also declared them a 4-8 team until they themselves prove otherwise. Who gives a crap? I missed where he declared the team "back and here to stay". I'm not saying anything Earth-shattering here, I know :|

  19. While I support local journalism & I have a digital subscription to both the LJS & OWH, I'm not going to read Dirk's hot takes on this season. There are literally better analyses on HuskerBoard than in any of his writing - no matter how talented of a writer he is. And if I want a really in-depth analysis, I'll rely on my subscription to Hail Varsity, who breaks down stuff in a way better analytical manner than Dirk.

  20. Hey guys! What a great idea! Let's take one of the biggest things that even remotely distinguishes our program as capable of turning to the top of college football and throw it down the drain... Yeah, stupid idea

  21. Isn't the definition of a sellout that all the tickets were sold? Also i don't see any correlation between ending the streak and play improving.

  22. It always cracks me up that people think the 18-22 year olds are way more attractive in California and Florida than in the midwest. Also, I imagine life is better in this department for Husker football players than it is at most other schools because of how important the team is here. I imagine the guys taking recruits around campus make that pretty clear.

  23. IMO if a recruit’s main priority is to be around attractive girls then they aren’t gonna be anywhere near my first choice. Football and making the NFL should be the main focus. But that’s just my honest opinion.

  24. We don't put any different weight on these kids' shoulders than they do at Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas, or any other big-time program. I've never understood this argument. If any person in Nebraska wants to follow an NFL team, it's right there. The internet makes it super easy. You can join a forum for your favorite team, watch every game on TV or online, and go to games whenever you want (and can travel). Nebraska is full of Denver Broncos fans, Chiefs fans, Bears fans, Packers fans, lord knows there's a million Patriots fans here. Not having an NFL team within the borders of this state doesn't affect Husker fandom. Lincoln is a pretty cool, easy-to-live in town. Recruits who come here are frequently impressed with how you can live here. It's not like living in Chicago or LA or even Minneapolis, but it's not living in the sticks. And no person should eat Valentino's, at least not since the 1980s when they went to the buffet model. Their food is way overrated now. When's the last time you were in Lincoln?

  25. Here's the part I can't let go: One man, a General Manager for the Houston Rockets, issues and deletes one tweet in support of pro-Democracy protestors in Hong Kong. That's enough for the government of China to blackball the Houston Rockets and threaten the entire NBA, which is hugely popular with the Chinese people,. So I'm no longer thinking about Daryl Morey being ill-informed on international politics, or being inappropriate in his role as an NBA team representative. I'm thinking that this really is the gauntlet for free speech. China's incredibly thin-skinned over-reaction and demand for censorship makes the case that China is a dangerous country that shouldn't be rewarded, and maybe the Hong Kong protestors deserve even more support. China actually does need the NBA right now, and this presumption that China has all the leverage in this business transaction is pretty weak sauce. All the politics is exhausting these days. I get it. But the lecture from LeBron James is pure chickensh!t. f#&% China.

  27. Or guys have been so focused on the gameplan and scheme that the basic things have slipped. That happens - this is not the first coaching staff to bring out the "focusing on the fundamentals" talk when things aren't going well. And I'm not saying it's wrong or an excuse, it happens. Particularly with a young team, and one that is probably excited to be working with the entire playbook this year and could be taking the fundamentals for granted at times.

  30. Well put yourself in the players shoes. You are a coddled super athlete who has always had luck with football but because you are so athletic you don't really get challenged in high school. Now in recruiting, you were passed over by Texas, Alabama because there were players with your athleticism who also LOVE football and are intent on the NFL, while you merely like the game, this having manifested itself in your stats and slight lack of self promotion. Now here comes Nebraska who lost out on the kid who went to Alabama. They are willing to pay your way completely. You get to Lincoln and are shown the posh amenities, full snack/smoothie bar at the Hawks Championship center, fine ladies, and lots of bud. Later that night (and many nights after) the older members of the team and some chicks party in the dorm with some mighty fat bowls. Coach is talking about winning and sacrifice, but what he mean? Nebraska only ever wins 5-8 games a year so as long as we keep it on the down lo, what they gonna do, kick us out?

  32. You’d be surprised to learn that the PAC 12 Has a winning record against the Big Ten over the last 20 years. 68-55 PAC 12. Every Big Ten team except Wisconsin and Ohio has a losing record against the PAC 12 during that time span. In fact, the Big Ten falls to 32-60 against the PAC 12 if you remove Wisky & Bucky. I’ve said for awhile now that I feel the Big Ten is deadweight weighing down the program. The level of football in the Big Ten is below that of the Big 12. The numbers bear this out. The Big Ten is the 2nd weakest power football conference behind only the ACC. Last 20 years: Big 10 ACC 45-33 Big 12 38-46 PAC 12 55-68 SEC 35-48 Sorry to hijack your comment, but I felt like ranting. I think you mean the team needs to play with more ‘toughness’ and that a power running scheme helps accomplish that goal. I tend to agree with that sentiment...problem is we have O-lineman who should be playing at the FCS level.

  33. I love Frost. I think he will get us back. But at the same time I love the article. It was refreshing to see someone call it how it is. Not dance around because they are afraid they wont get future insider info. I dont think it makes Frost's seat warm. I think if anything it makes some people happy to hear something said publicly we all think. Frost kinda put his foot in his mouth with some of those comments. So what. Move on. Nothing wrong with saying that out loud in my opinion. Hopefully it makes him more cautious in the future. I know next time Frost says we got a damn good team I want to believe its true.

  34. When Minnesota was on the field this past Saturday, their intensity, focus and execution looked like they were playing for a B1G title. Nebraska looked like they couldn’t wait to get back on the plane and head home. It’s disheartening to hear Frost has to have this conversation. But it feels like it’s been like this for years now. The “want to” just doesn’t seem to be there at all. Our opponents consistently have career days against us. Iowa wants it. Wisconsin wants it. Minnesota wants it. For whatever reason, Nebraska seemingly doesn’t.

  35. I think every team enjoys punishing Nebraska. Same as when Texas loses or Notre Dame. The problem with us is those teams can talk and back it up more instances than not. Our teams talk and then cower away year in and year out like a puppy during a thunderstorm.

  38. Ending the sellout streak will not accomplish anything. Plus, the sellout streak is our way of showing this team and these coaches that even though they continue to disappoint us, we, as fans, will always be there supporting them and hoping that one day this team starts to play with some Husker pride. The sellout streak is the only positive thing we have in this program right now and it is why players want to come here. We can only hope that the coaches realize what they have in Nebraska and actually start earning their fat pay checks because the product they put out on the field leaves very little to be desired.

  40. So hold up. You're telling me Dirk wrote a hot take about how we should doubt a coach that says his team is going to be good, even though he knows our Freshmen outnumber our Upperclassmen? Because that coach who has turned that roster over, and knows that he has more talent overall (albeit pretty young talent) is saying that his roster is "more talented" than last year. And so that means that coach... What? Lied to us? Or said words that would make that roster think they could compete? SUPER DUPER EXTRA LOOPER BREAKING NEWS YOU GUYS Apparently Frost should have said, preseason, that we're going to be lucky to make a bowl this year with skill players predominantly Freshmen & Sophomores. And a young, patchwork O Line. Because saying that would have made it... better? Would have instilled fight into the youngsters? And where was this hot article in August? I dunno. Maybe this isn't such groundbreaking forward thinking material. Good writers know how to tap into the zeitgeist of their audience. Dirk is tapping into the collective angst of Husker Nation. Don't anyone ever doubt that Dirk knows when to land a punch.

  47. I honestly see no WR development and haven’t been impressed by any of Walters recruits besides Wan’Dale who was mostly a Held and Frost recruit. He was gifted with Morgan and JD and losing one shows the flaws, imagine if JD is gone next year. Walters and Dewitt need to be the first on the hot seat. I would be thrilled to not see them next year on the sidelines.
