Frost must have told him he's looking at bringing someone in via the portal. Makes perfect sense. Dude has been a warrior for us. Really sad to see such a class act, and such a great person, leave the team. But I wish him all the luck in the world at his new home.17 points

Total class since he was a high school senior. Hope he goes out and crushes it12 points

Most people wrote off Harbaugh at Michigan as a one and done a year ago when his contract was restructured. This year, he has a chance to not only with the B1G but also make the playoff. Frost absolutely needs to hire for more than a single year. Nobody knows what next year might bring.11 points

Can people just take this as a lesson to stop overreacting and let things play out? ... No?.... Well, we tried...9 points

Frosty better have a portal QB lined up cause Smothers ain’t gonna cut it next year.9 points

Uh... Smothers made every mistake in one game Adrian did through the year. Safety, pick, fumble, missed throws... It's never been an Adrian problem. If Adrian really wants to play at the next level a transfer is probably a good idea. At least if he starts it shows he can learn and be successful in a different environment.8 points

This is the smart move for everybody. A few weeks ago I was leaning towards the narrative of Adrian Martinez coming back for one more year and a shot at redemption, but a fifth year of Adrian stands a good chance of looking like the previous four. Nobody would be satisfied. Now that it's over, I'm asking myself to compare three of the last four Nebraska quarterbacks, who also happen to be the top three career total offense leaders in Nebraska football history. What's the difference between Adrian Martinez, Tommy Armstrong, and Taylor Martinez? Not much, really. Prolific dual threat playground ballers who started four seasons, racked up big yards, made thrilling plays, and became notorious for ill-timed turnovers and poor decisions. If Adrian had the OL and running back support Taylor and Tommy had, he might have earned a couple 9-4 seasons himself. At which point he would be held in the same regard we hold Tommy Armstrong and Taylor Martinez. Which is to say, not that highly. Tommy and Taylor went out with a whimper, too, and still generate mixed feelings from the fanbase. I'd say all three could have played college ball elsewhere, but Nebraska is the only school that would have let them get anywhere near those career numbers. Many programs would have tried to get them to switch positions. Maybe we need to rethink what a Nebraska quarterback should look like.8 points

Adrian making the same mistakes as a green freshman backup isn't an Adrian problem?7 points

I think we may be too hard on Adrian's passing ability. He's actually a damn good passer, and in every game the Huskers frightened a ranked opponent for 3.5 quarters, you'll find Martinez dropping dimes to a variety of receivers & routes on sustained drives. But we might be going too easy on him with the turnovers and decision making. When fourth year starter Adrian Martinez made a bad decision or coughed up the ball or got some late game yips, I didn't see a problem with the offensive line or the play call. I mostly saw a QB lose his mojo as the pressure ratcheted up. It is kinda weird that 12 seasons, three different players and three different head coaches produced such similar QB play.7 points

Disappointing, I really wish he would have hung it up or returned here. I hope he goes someplace out of the BIG10 and tears it up behind an Oline that allows him to maximize his talents... I also really hope Frost didn't cave to the boo birds and refuse him back. Pretty bummed about this one. Also makes it a lot harder for Frost next year IMO.7 points

Love me some Amart, but in the words of Larry, "I don't care who you are, that's funny right there."6 points

One of the top 5 people to ever put on a uniform at Nebraska. I hope he has an immense amount of success wherever he lands (coughKSUcough), but this was best for both parties involved.6 points

Rumors going around saying he didn’t have much of a choice. Frost wanted to move on.6 points

Anyone find it funny how almost all of the Notre Dame assistant coaches are staying with Freeman. Kelly really must be a prick. Lol6 points

Ugh. It was announced 3 hours ago and our wide receivers haven't even caught a pass yet. This guy sucks. So much for the hype. Can't wait for him to be gone... Did I do it right? Too soon? Sorry just wanted to get a jump start on the Nowledge crew5 points

Frost shouldn't give 2 damn cents about whether or not the "fans," are ready for a change at QB. The only thing that matters is whether or not Frost thought he was better off with Martinez at the helm than without, or if as someone who truly cared about Martinez the person, he thought it was better for Martinez to get a fresh start. The "fans," should not factor into that equation at all, whatsoever.5 points

I think Frost and Martinez had real heart to heart talk about this and Frost encouraged him to move on. If he wanted to stay, he was going to probably be there to mentor the new starting QB. Frost cleaned house on the offensive staff. He knows he’s coaching for his job next year. He knows many fans are ready for a change at QB. He is doing everything he can to be able to say, if he fails and gets fired, “I did everything I could to make the changes needed to win”. Now, many will still say that’s too little too late. But, at least he’s trying to make all the right moves now. If he fails, he moves on and I’m guessing he will still have a long coaching career somewhere. Here’s to hoping it all works and that long career is here.5 points

Hooo boy, I have. Not just here but in real life as well. I agree about those people being wrong.5 points

It's very bizarre that this team is getting worse in a lot of ways for 2022 and yet the expectations for Frost to win feel higher than ever. It's hard to feel good or even encouraged about losing a four year starter, even if that starter was as polarizing as AM. They better hope Smothers or the transfer portal plays out.5 points

I understand it, but hate it. I know it has been a rough ride, but watching him at another school is going to suck.5 points

I’m heartbroken. I adored that kid. I understand every aspect of the equation, I just wish there was a nicer equation.5 points

I hope Georgia beats the brakes off them. I'm sick of people trying to figure out how Alabama should be in the playoff just because they are Alabama. 2 loss Alabama is not more deserving than any other team with less losses.5 points

I think this would be a viable sentiment pre-transfer portal era. But this is going to be the norm moving forward.5 points

Not gonna lie. I’ve crapped on his performance just as much as anyone… but this made me feel sad. Adrian was always an incredible ambassador to the program and is overall a great human being. I hope he kills it at another school.5 points

I hate it when politicians say things like "real Americans". But that aside, he isn't wrong. I've been vaccinated. My wife and kids are all vaccinated. My parents are vaccinated. This virus isn't going to ever fully disappear. I'm done worrying about it.4 points

Would she be considered a nazi or white supremacist? Would the left news media lie about her for a tear pre trial before actually finding out the true facts at trial? Would she be arrested promptly even with video evidence showing her clearly being not guilty? I don’t know about the tea and crumpets, but you would be hard pressed to find many conservatives saying she doesn’t have the right to defend herself.4 points

People are fickle. This last year many were blaming 2AM and saying try Smothers, c’mon Frost put Smothers in. Now that Adrian is entering the portal Smothers isn’t good enough, need to hit the portal, has a noodle arm, etc. I realize it may not be the same people saying both things but I still find it amusing. The next guy is always the favorite.4 points

It'll be interesting to see how well comments like this age a year from now. I find it hard to believe that it'll be easy to just go out and find someone who is better than Martinez was this season. I don't think Smothers is that guy next year.4 points

Frost needs to see how the team does with a new QB running the offense, and I think this will push some new leaders to step up and be vocal to drive some change in the team. This is also a plus for Adrian. Hopefully he can go to a team where he can succeed and he's not the scapegoat for all that ails the team.4 points

I hope he ends up in the Big 12 or Pac 12 where he will be able to showcase more of his athleticism and won't face the physical defenses he has faced in the Big Ten. I know defenses can be physical all over the country, but it seems the most physical in the Big Ten.4 points

That's a pretty piss poor way of managing. If you're scared to hire good people, you shouldn't be managing them.4 points

Didn't Frost say we were 2-3 players away. Guessing we just took a huge step.4 points

You're making too much out of the "he doesn't want to come to NU in the first place" angle. Joseph is a Louisiana native, does a ton of stuff in the community, and feels a close tie to LSU. He's been in Louisiana a lot longer than his 4 years at NU which were thirty years ago.4 points
