Nebraska will always be one of the last states to legalize any type of "sin" including gambling and marijuana use.

    3. VectorVictor

      VectorVictor

As long as P.Ricketts is sullying the halls of the Governor's mansion, it won't happen in Nebraska unless his family gets a taste, legal or otherwise. And this Yahoo article does suggest that 35 states are poised to allow sports gambling within the next five years based on this ruling, so hopefully Nebraska is one of the 35?

If Nebraska isn't, I'll be sure to host a 'Husker betting party for folks at the beginning of each football season down here in Texass--after all, the only thing they love down here more than moral extremism is pure, unadulterated hypocrisy.

      sho

I doubt Nebraska is one of those 35, but I can imagine, those border states (Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Colorado, SD) are on that list, and once again Nebraska will be losing out on a large revenue stream to border states.   On the bright side, Nebraskans can have the 'good life' with higher taxes...YAY us!

  5. Shatel has a good article today about how Riley wasn’t recruiting Nick Henrich from Burke very hard, and Eichorst alienated Henrich’s parents. My brother also told me that when Bryson Williams from LSE visited NU, Riley asked Bryson how his flight was. Riley and Eichorst were the biggest jokes ever.

@TonyStalloniRight on. Ive said it for awhile now. Perlman was poison for athletics. You can have both great athletics and academics but some want to fight one way or the other for some reason. Mr. Burns, i mean Perlman, set our athletics back his whole tenure. Chancellor Green is getting things back on track but has a big mess to clean up from Perlman.

Riley is an a$$h@!e.  What a con man.  I don't know if I want to punch him or shake his hand.  Dude figured out "the game of life" like few people ever have before.

  6. Shocker that Northwestern can’t win a game when the other team doesn’t have any turnovers/mistakes. When will people get off Fitzgerald’s jock?

  7. Sounds like Maurice Washington is the real deal.  Media, coaches, and players have been saying he's stood out in practice.  It's huge that he's eligible this year.

  8. The guys from SpreadFootball.com have a podcast that is slightly focused on the mid-90s Nebraska offense, and how it was ahead of it's time.  I haven't listened to it yet, but I plan to this afternoon.  http://ronmckiefootball.com/tfp44/

The what you will learn in this episode is very interesting:

Why running the QB is a game changer

How the QB counter is a deadly play

Why Nebraska was ahead of its time

How the defense hates playing against teams that have a running quarterback

Funny how defenders of Callahan and Riley still liked the statue QBs.

    2. 4skers89

      4skers89

If you can get past all the "you know", not a bad listen but probably the best part was talking about some of Osborne's innovations.

Oh, so this is a Running Quarterback vs Statue Quarterback thing. Sorry, lately I get lost and confused if there isn't a vs in there.

  10. Unpopular Opinion Alert - Rob Zatechka was on The Bottom Line with Mike'l Severe and he said that he and many former players haven't been happy that the "Husker Prayer" was made public.  Zatechka said that he's happy the fans have embraced it, but he also said that he wishes it would have stayed internal as a "players only" thing.

Well, we know “the team that can’t be beat” is wrong. They’ve been getting beat like a drum for years. I like ‘Til we can’t be beat much better. At least that expresses a goal and not an outright lie.

    3. knapplc

      knapplc

It's always been "'til we can't be beat, won't be beat!"

    4. Enhance

      Enhance

The Husker prayer getting out has easily been worth 1.5 losses per season.

  11. Watching the live stream of Nebrasketball in Italy right now.  I have no idea who any of the players are, but they look long and athletic.  The team looks like they haven't played together much, but they push the tempo a lot and half-court sets involve a lot of guys out on the perimeter to create space for a deep post-up or drive and dish.

    1. JJ Husker

      JJ Husker

You had me at "they now have something resembling an offensive game plan".

    2. wiuhusker

      wiuhusker

it will be interesting to see how the offense develops as the year goes on. There are some pieces there that have some potential this year.

    3. ColoradoHusk

      ColoradoHusk

I'm not expecting much this year.  It's a totally new system with totally new teammates, and some key guys will be sitting out as transfers.  I expect the big jump in 2020-21.

Bielema made a joke how he was the only one in the panel without a team logo on his shirt.

Fitzgerald is a "great coach" if he can get 8 or 9 wins, yet most seasons he is at 5-7 wins.

    3. ColoradoHusk

      ColoradoHusk

Northwestern wins when the other team makes mistakes. Unfortunately for NU, that's the type of team the Huskers have been since joining the Big Ten.

Glad for him but why hasn't he caught fire at a major?

    4. ColoradoHusk

      ColoradoHusk

Some guys are just better at the lower levels.  Gill did well at Buffalo, and flamed out at Kansas.  Maybe he realized he would rather be at a lower-level school and not have to deal with all the BS that coaches at the highest level have to deal with.

  17. Ed Orgeron has a $12 million buyout if he's first in his first year at LSU.  That will get him some job security.

    1. krc1995

      krc1995

And I think he had a 5-7 year at Ole Miss his only previous experience as a HC . Orgeron has talent up the wazoo too.  DONU's cupboards were pretty bare.  We're not looking so bad.

  19. Frost to current players:  The vacation is over!!!

Well technically he told them to go on Christmas vacation and enjoy it, then come back. So the vacation is starting?

    2. JJ Husker

      JJ Husker

He also told them they would have more fun than they ever have.

When I coached youth teams, those in charge always wanted it to be about having fun, not winning. I always asked my players, what is more fun than winning? Hard work doesn't seem hard at all if you get the payoff in the end.

  22. Greg Schiano could end up with $20.75 M for Tennessee for being "fired without cause".  It's a sticky situation, but I think Schiano would have a good case.  http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/21742751/greg-schiano-earned-277m-6-plus-years-scrapped-tennessee-deal

True, @HuskerNBigD, but I think Meyer is thinking "glad to have you back, Greg, Tennessee really screwed you over."

    3. RunMickeyRun02

      RunMickeyRun02

IMO it seemed more like Ten folks just hated the hire and dig some digging so they could stop the hire. Yeah, the stories could be true but it's really a he said/he said kind of thing.

In other words if Tennessee had hired Saban no one would have bothered turning over all the rocks to find something damning.

    4. ColoradoHusk

      ColoradoHusk

Agree, @RunMickeyRun02.  Clay Travis was the big Tennessee guy who was mad at the hire, and dug up this stuff at Penn State and started the Twitter storm.  That exploded on campus, and Schiano was all of a sudden "not the hire".
