  1. Dunno. Depends on what Moos has set in his mind for criteria. If Miles needed to make the NCAA tourney to keep his job safe, he most likely didn’t do that. Yes we had substantial improvement, but history shows that won’t be sustained next year. Frankly, I’m to where I am indifferent about giving Miles another season. We’ve been flirting with competence under Miles but whenever the big games happen, we typically show little in the way of preparation, progress, or a positive/loose mindset. Don’t know that Miles has the basketball mind to make the improvements necessary for sustained success. It’s as if Miles is a much nicer version of Bo Pelini—he can build up win totals and occasionally steal a game from a better team, but when the spotlight is on the team, they usually crap the bed (unless we’re at home). Bottom line: Nebraska basketball and its fans deserve measured, sustained progress and a coach that can make the adjustments and win the big games away from home. I don’t think we have that, sadly.

  2. Too much pressure. They played tight the whole game. Regardless, they have had a really nice year.

  3. ahhhhh - a quote from a Fox opinion piece on a religion & spirituality site isn't exactly the fact based info I'd sink my teeth into. And Suzanne Venker is no expert on anything, certainly nothing fact based. Edit: you know this would be the sort of statistic that could be easily tracked and studied if we allowed the CDC to track and study shootings. I found some data bases on Mother Jones and other sites that look at mass shooting's stats, but tracking parenteral involvement in the shooters' life isn't one of the criteria they measure. They do look at mental health diagnosis, which is pretty nebulous, as some are diagnosed with something beforehand, others aren't but that's really dependent on a patient self evaluating that they need help and asking for it (or someone committing them).

  4. Hello, im hoping to get counsel on the fan day that Husker football has every year. I think that’s what it’s called. Understand, I’m ignorant on all this as I’ve been at FT Bragg for past 22 years in Army and only been able to follow Huskers from afar. I left Nebraska at 19 and just moved and retired in Gretna, Ne. I’m excited to understate, to have opportunity to meet Coach Frost. I’m 42 years old, which allowed me to watch every game He played in. It’s absolutely remarkable that he was on Mr Osborne last team and now the Coach. i want to get things signed by him. I can’t find info on google about COA with things that are signed on fan day. Is this day historically been organized well? Is there enough time to with the long lines to actually get to the tables where coaches are.? any insight and preferred first hand experience with this “fan day” above and beyond the info I’ve read on Husker.com. Thank you Nathan

  5. Phillips made a point to say that NU’s done a good job of recruiting in-state players. But he also said that “if Nebraska had offered me six months ago, I probably wouldn’t have made that trip to Stanford in the first place.” But NU didn’t. So Phillips took the trip. And he’ll attend Stanford. (from 2015) http://www.omaha.com/huskers/blogs/recruiting-harrison-phillips-picks-stanford-over-nebraska-k-state/article_6d2f6fa0-083c-5130-86b2-e7724482f3db.html IMHO, I do not think kids like this will be leaving for lack of or a late offer from Frost and Co. They might go elsewhere, but not from lack of a timely offer....

  9. How could anyone hate the metric system? What's 100 divided by 10? What's 137 divided by 14?

  10. Well, I for one would like to see us implement metric units in my lifetime. Sadly, I don't think America will go metric until I'm dead and buried 1.829 meters under.

  11. In the spirit of complex issues and a board of varied political affiliations, I hope we can agree that broken boys and missing fathers can stand on their own — without undermining the parallel journey of women. The notion that boys can't possibly be victims because of privileged status kills a good intellectual discussion — one that isn't really at odds with the battle for gender equality, but may be a noteworthy byproduct. This article from The Atlantic is already 20 years old, and came out interestingly enough just after Columbine. It's largely a rebuttal to "Reviving Ophelia" by Lincoln Nebraska's own Mary Pipher. Pipher's book seemed so right and necessary at the time, but the counter-argument has a real ring of truth to it as well. Again, not a zero sum debate. Just another way to look at where we are. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2000/05/the-war-against-boys/304659/

  12. And hopefully we're smart enough to look at the problem as a whole, and not blame empowering girls.

  17. The nearest whole number for both is 10 The imperial system only seems easier because of familiarity. The metric system is really much simpler and more logical. Heck when I was a kid they made us learn the metric system under the premise that the US would be switching to it any day now. Ha. I work with AutoCAD drawings and I absolutely hate it when I get metric drawings. It may be my lack of expertise with AutoCAD but I don't know how to change the units in my program to metric and the only way I've figured out to be able to work with them is to scale the drawing to convert it to inches. Scale factor 1 divided by 25.4 (if mm). That works, sort of, except it usually totally jacks up the drawing, radius's start flipping the wrong way etc. So I pretty much despise the metric system most of the time. It's only compounded when the drawing is also in German or Spanish but that's another complaint.

  18. It's funny that was the first one listed. I was actually thinking I'd like to try that since it's been mentioned so many times here on HB. Plus I'm an absolute sucker for a good breakfast burrito.

  22. Ya, I'm not getting the logic here. There is a lot of time after a campaign promise to get more information to find out the affects of enacting said promise, or to find out it's a stupid idea. I find it unlikely Trump did that. The last bit is probably where we differ. There's a little evidence for why I don't think he did that though. If the above is true, that's not how you make a decision, and whether he made a campaign promise on it is irrelevant.

  23. Weird, that's the same thing I hear when listing all the imperial units!

  24. It's so frustrating that something like this made him seem like he did something right months ago, and everyone pretty much universally agreed on it. I despise the guy and didn't like the ham-handed way he tried to toot his own horn, but I thought he actually did something right. Then the truth comes out - months later - and nobody is going to hear about it. Millions of people have ingrained the event as magnanimous Trump saving some immature basketball players from certain Chinese doom. This is one the great challenges of the era of Trump: A very loud, very dishonest liar has the largest megaphone. If he is allowed to get his version of events front & center, it's nigh impossible to disprove it later if we do in fact find out he was lying. Also, I can't believe I'm saying this, but Lavar Ball was right on the merits... good for him: " If he helped, I would say thank you.”

  25. This was enough to make the local news last night. It's pretty lame companies just use these shell companies to bid on federal jobs like this. Then again, this company sounds like they're after Trump's own heart with their practices. This stinks kind of like that Whitefish contract for Puerto Rico. Whitefish had two employees & were from Sec of the Interior Zinke's hometown. One of Zinke's kids worked a summer construction job for the head guy at Whitefish.

  27. As disappointed as I am in how they played yesterday and the fact that they are unlikely to make the tournament, if you had you told me in October they would be a 1 or 2 seed in the NIT I'd have been happy. Early in the season I was hoping for a middle of the pack finish in the B1G and they finished tied for 4th. As the season progressed my hopes/expectations changed, but that doesn't mean the season was a complete disaster. Hopefully they show up to play in the NIT and use missing the NCAA's as motivation to improve in the off-season.

  28. Wisconsin wouldn't even get in the tourney with our resume. We have ONE win against a good team but that team also whooped us on a neutral court. A team that finished 9th in the conference is not a good win. All the bubble teams have better resumes than us, theres no way any rational person would think our resume is good enough to get into the tournament.

  29. Hah! That's such balderdash. I was raised in the Empowered Women Era. I live and work among amazing people, men and women, who by their own merits are whole people, fully fledged, and with no limit to their emotional power. To claim that carving a niche for women necessarily means disempowering men, or "forgetting about" them, is silly. There is more than enough room for empowered boys and girls, men and women. Who and what I am, working with, for, above and beneath women and men, is completely unfounded on the empowerment of others. I am boundless, and my ceiling is my own personal limit. It is a poverty that someone would think that empowering one gender (or race, or religion, etc) necessarily means removing the power from another. I feel sorry for people who are so limited in their imagination that they feel that way. I have a colleague, a person who is clever and capable and nimble of mind and imaginative. That colleague worked their ass off, showed their potential, and is now my superior. And I couldn't be happier for them, for me, or for my organization. Because that person's ability and achievement has made me and the whole organization better. What gender is that person? What does it matter? The organization in which I work is better. Why would anyone care if that was a man or a woman making it better?

  33. The advantages of a Keurig are its quickness and its consistency. Even though I've been making coffee with my press for 20 years, sometimes it just doesn't turn out as well as I like. The Keurig reduces human error and gives you the same cup yesterday, today & tomorrow. It's also pretty easy to clean up, unlike my press, and it's convenient because you brew exactly the number of cups you want. Shoutout to the folks all drinking black coffee. Foo-Foo drinks have their place, and you should drink what you like, but it's nice to be surrounded by like-minded people.

  35. We won four, and received some historic beat downs from slightly above average teams. I will not be too upset about blowing leads either. I never want to turn off a Husker game to mow the grass again in my life. It was nearly a weekly occurrence last season. We need to build depth, and that will take time. Frost had a lot of first and second year starters at UCF. I assume the same will happen here, but I m hopeful that we have good players, but MR and his accomplices chose not to let them play, or failed to develop them. Blown leads in 2018 become close wins in 2019, and blowout wins in 2020.
