  4. This! One of the several reasons I stopped attending. Our church was modest compared to most. We partnered with the community food pantry and did a lot of good things. Then we started “investing” in our congregation by hiring a “music director”, audio visual equipment etc. I had no problem giving offering when it went to keeping the doors open for the pantry. But if you tell me I need to tithe to help the church stay open standing in front of a big screen to background music played by a hired pianist, excuse me while I roll my eyes…

  6. If you want to discuss Christianity and accumulating wealth, take a look at the mega-Church pastors all over the country. Those guys are supposed to be leading "non-profit organizations" yet they live like multi-millionaires. The Righteous Gemstones is a work of fiction, but based a lot on the truth. At some point the US should look into taxing religious organizations. Don't get me started on Scientology and what they get away with in the name of religion.

  9. What a load of BS. Do not fear the corporate overlords owning everything about your life. You can go from one oligarch to the next to find the right master. Trust us, its a good thing! Im Mike Bloomberg and I approve this message.

  13. The prodigal son story is viewed in a lot of different perspectives around the world. Our church had a pastor from Tanzania visit and discuss this passage. Finding fault with the son who left is a western thing. The pastor talked more about how the people in the foreign land mistreated and exploited the son when he was down. Even if it was his fault he was in the situation. The son was willing to work for his survival, but the person he worked for wouldn’t even give him food. The sons only option was to return home. He begged for forgiveness just to have the opportunity to be a slave for his father. Again, the son was in this situation because of choices he made, but he owned up to them and was willing to work. He didn’t expect, at all, to be treated with any dignity when he returned home. He then went on to blast the other son who was actually jealous of his brother who was in a desperate position. My comparison would be the Americans who are jealous of the refugees who were put up in hotels not that long ago. A couple posters on this very board talked about how it sounded better than the vacations they take. Finding fault in the man with little while ignoring circumstances is a Western thing. Many other places view it as the love of God is needed because a man isn’t guaranteed to succeed on his own with jealousy and greed of others being a main reason.

  14. Yeah pretty much Option B. Without knowing the nuances of Capitol Hill coverage, I think the ethically responsible thing to do is go and then determine the weight/value/importance of the press conference and the information. Weigh the facts, what's said, etc., and then make a judgement call as to what kind of attention it deserves or needs. The closest example from my personal work experience as a reporter is when we used to go to daily police briefings and/or bi-weekly mayoral press conferences. Sometimes, there was nothing overly interesting to report so we just wouldn't report anything out of it. But (and I'm NOT excusing this, for what it's worth) I'm not surprised that MTG holding a bombastic press conference to fire Fauci garnered so much attention. I think there are multiple ways a newsroom could evaluate this i.e. we should report on this to show how stupid she is, we should report on this because its important news people need to know, we should report on this because our viewers/readers will be interested, we should NOT report on this because it's clearly a publicity stunt, etc. etc. And no matter what choice you make someone will hate you for it lol.

  15. They made the choice to go to college, and they should be free to choose to decide that it was a mistake and then go to a different one. It's not the military. Coaches won't like it, but who cares? Frost gets paid five million dollars a year, and if he gets fired will still get paid millions for failing, he can have the expectation of having to deal with stupid kids. Giving kids the right to move on whenever they see fit is not stupid, it's giving them the autonomy to be in control of their life. Forcing them to stay put is stupid - you never learn good lessons when you're coddled and protected, you only 'earn life's stripes' by taking risks.

  20. Keep him at guard, and he will be fine. He's probaly 6ft 4 1/2 in and not 6ft 6in. He has the tools, and just needs two years in S&C to bring them out. Also, I would say his best attribute is his feet. He's an absolute take for me, and a much better prospect than Frietzche, Yaeger (who is gone), Anderson, Lynn, etc.

  24. I will also say this, watching HS film is hard enough, as in, trying to figure out what the hell is going on, dudes pulling wrong, guys lined up wrong, some teams run offenses that hide the ball really well. If it is hard to watch film it has to be really hard to do it live. I had to scout some crap as C1 team years ago that ran a Wing T, from the side view on the stands it was a huge pain in the a$$ to figure out who had the ball.

  25. I’ll share a little story here for what it’s worth. It doesn’t directly pertain to this issue but….. Back, way back, when I was going through confirmation in the Lutheran church I was questioning our class teacher (the Pastor of our church) about the Lutheran position being that unbaptized babies who die will go to hell. He stopped and looked at me and asked me “JJ, don’t you think that God in his infinite wisdom will do the right thing?” That one question has pretty much been my one guiding principle ever since. I’ve seen way too much horrid sh#t in this world to believe that God is interfering in any meaningful way with our existence in this life. And yes I realize that flies in the face of the Catholic Christian faith I profess and practice. Hence my admitted agnostic leanings the other day. But, if you believe in intelligent design or a God that created us and that will provide judgement on our life at some point (as I do), I firmly believe he will do the right thing when the time comes. So I guess this is why I don’t get too twisted up when I see cases of hypocritical behavior by Christians or other self proclaimed religious or non-religious folk. The good person who doesn’t believe in Jesus as well as the bad person who makes a show of being the best Christian will all be judged fairly imo. But as far as receiving any satisfaction of the right thing being done in this life, I’m not holding my breath.

  26. The hierarchy of the US catholic church knowingly covered up child molestation happening all across the country and tried to sweep it under the rug. The catholic church is as evil and corrupt an organization can be and the whole church is guilty by association. Sorry if you feel differently. With that being said, I actually dont hate the Pope now. I think he is trying to make mends for what happened. Hes trying to bring the church into the 21st century and the hypocrit right wingers hate it. One minute they believe the Pope has direct access to God and he is Gods earthly disciple…until they disagree with him politically on something and then hes just a human making s#!t up. Make up your damn minds.

  28. It’s amazing that Trump has warped your thinking so much that you disagree that having mobs of people in streets without a permit and with traffic trying to get through is not lunatic behavior and an unsafe atmosphere for the drivers and passengers. Did you close your eyes when all the videos were posted out in the World Wide Web in the last year

  32. Near the ballpark - I recommend finding a food truck, there will be plenty of great options. Some inside the tailgates, some outside. The Blatt is a good location for local/craft beers and more German/sausage eats. It’s attached to the Zesto’s too, of course. Old Mattress Factory has the big tailgate near the ballpark. They have/had free concerts in the tailgate. Usually first Friday night is a named band you might recognize. The rest of the week, I dunno. When I first moved back about 9 years ago it was $4/16oz cans and then went corporate to $5, then $5/12oz cans, and then they also started collecting cover after 9pm. Haven’t been in there after several years as I grew tired of that scene and overpriced Bud Light. Lefty’s isn’t a bad spot to get a beer, just across the street from the ballpark. They are owned by the adjacent pizza joint, so you can also order food. Same block or one block west of Leftys is another business complex with Zipline and another bar. I haven’t heard anything to make me go out of my way to eat at Burger Theory. Heard it was about a $50 tab for a couple burgers and beers. If you can’t find parking or don’t mind a short walk...there’s free parking under the viaduct just south of CHI, as if you were going toward the old Rick’s Boatyard. It’s about a 10-15 minute walk. There’s usually no issue getting parking there and thats become our default location to not fight parking during CWS. Off the beaten path: I will throw a plug for Lo Sole Mio because I worked there. It’s the only reason I’ve found to like texas fans. I had the fortune to wait on Auggie, and being a baseball guy it was neat for me. I wanted to ask him to curse me out! Him and Molinari used to dine there every year their teams made it. Good Italian food, will leave you stuffed or with a second meal in to-go box. -Block 16 is legit farm to table location, a gourmet spin on “burgers” and other infusion flavors. -Dinkers is a great cash dive bar with good burgers and cheap domestics - like $8 pitchers -Stellas, my favorite burger spot. Great family owned business.

  33. I don't think he is slow. He is 6'6" and takes long strides. He covers ground pretty quickly. From his slight build I would assume some time in the weight room would only help in that regard. or he could be slow

  35. Everyone has different goals and aspirations. Not everyone wants to play in the NFL or be the starting QB or even receiver in a big time college program. Getting a great education, playing QB and having fun aren't necessarily somehow bad things to do for a 20 year old kid. He could have been someone that made a few plays for us in the slot, but he was never going to be the QB here.

  36. Just remember... media members who are alumni of schools associated with these allegations actively campaigned for Nebraska to be kicked out of the conference for wanting to play football last season. And not a peep about this stuff.

  39. He actually averaged just under 10 yards per completion during that stretch. I follow you and don't fault your stance regarding no excuses- you are entitled. However, AM doesn't deserve 100% of the blame for last years lack of wins. He actually performed pretty well during some stretches in spite of the lack of good play around him. I can tell you this is a popular opinion in the locker room. Very few guys are pointing fingers at the QB.

  40. People wonder why they dont allow more access to practices for fans and media. 1 glimpse at practice and we fired a possible backup QB who is 19 years old and never really been through an offseason camp at this level. Logan's skillset is different than other QB's. He is a state level sprinter, so has some serious wheels. From all accounts he makes good decisions and gets the ball out quick. With talent around him at the skill positions he could be more than effective as QB at this level in our system. That is not to discount Haarberg or say he is better than Masker, but I am not willing to write him off just yet. It kind of sucks how he is getting knocked on publicly and hasn't had a real chance to prove himself.
