  1. So it begins. I predict by the end of fall camp Nebraska will be the board's favorite to win the West.

  2. Might as well put myself on record so I can gloat about how smart I am a year from now, or I can forget and pretend like I never said anything if I'm wrong First, here's something I really believe is going to happen. Adrian is going to go into the offseason pissed off with a chip on his shoulder. He's gonna go back down about 15 pounds, he's gonna get an extra step back, and with freshly healthy legs (and shoulder?), a more developed line and receiver corps, hopefully some progress by Frost as a playcaller, and another year of personal development, is going to come out like a different player to the tune of All B1G honors. I've been really confused by people's opinions on Adrian this year, and I guess a big part of it is a "what have you done for me lately" perspective. It seems clear to me that he was in a funk and that something mentally/physically wasn't right. But it can be. It was much more his freshman year. He's gonna come out guns blazing next season. Something to the tune of 3,300 passing with 22TD/6INT and 700 rushing with 12 TDs. Second hot take I'm not as sure about but think has a real potential to be possible, we'll have a top 25 scoring defense next year. Our defense has improved the last two years, and while there were still too many times where you wanted to pull your hair out, dare I say the defense was a hair's width away from being actually good. The only thing that kept them was consistency, and a big part of why was because when they played their best, the offense would stutter and stall, and the D would eventually get worn down and break. There were a lot of times last year where our defense was playing with it's hair on fire and dominating for moments. The last 2.75 quarters yesterday was one example. A very large chunk of the Colorado game was another. They'll take another huge step up with some newly developed talent and a more consistent offense.

  3. Last year you won four games. This year you won five games, and came very close to upsetting #17 Iowa in the final week. Don't fret; your team is getting better. Don't hope for too much, too soon. Your disappointment this year is the product of a hype-letdown. Scott Frost is a respected coach and he's going to build you a better team. It's already happening.

  4. To be fair, if Frost wasn’t a Nebraska legend and had 3 losing seasons in a row, every person on the board would want him gone.

  5. I find it funny that some like to exaggerate peoples points... You can be excited about the Iowa game after the Maryland game AND disappointed with the out come after the Iowa game... You can also state opinion and STILL be a fan... Id feel sad living in some of your guys's black or white world...

  6. We need to throw more swing passes. Especially when Adrian is QB. He's really good at those passes

  7. In his defense Frost's first 2 seasons have been wet trash.

  8. He's coaching for his job next year, that should be obvious to everyone.

  10. I don't need to be a professional cook to know when food sucks. I also don't need to know more about football than Frost or be a coach to know that they weren't working. Why run something over and over that consistently lost yards or went for no gain? The play calling was horrendous.

  11. Let’s be frank. It has been nearly 20 years of this...abysmal coaching. And I do not see anything from Frost that suggests he is different. I’m not saying the program will fire him now, but, as I see it, it’s inevitable. So who could this program turn to?

  14. Agreed. People need to take the Golden Boy blinders off. There are little to no positives from the day this staff took over to now.

  15. This coming from a guy who couldn't get it done coaching Doane college. Great QB--one of the best running quarterbacks ever. But as a coach or commentator, not so much.

  16. You must have missed some games in 2009.

  17. Dude also said during the game in a tweet that these kids had no heart. And then after the game blasted Frost and said the kids played their hearts out. Dude was a great player, but if you aren't with us when we are down, you don't deserve to be with us when we are back on top

  18. They went 11-2 last season, and are 10-2 and ranked #17 at the end of this season. I'll trust the consistent performance under a good coach over the last two seasons rather than your cherrypicked transitive property perspective.

  19. This is a really dumb take the ceiling is 6-6? In 2018 we were two plays away from 6-6 (Northwestern OT and Iowa game expiring field goal), and another "play" away from 7 wins if Adrian doesn't get hurt against CU. In 2019 we were another two plays away from 6-6 (Iowa game expiring field goal and Colorado OT), and two other games where we were inches away from 8 wins. So you're saying a team that has been near a 6-6 mark and is going to flip the roster into more developed talent and have another year of experience under a consistent system with coaches that will hopefully learn and grow as well, has zero percent chance of doing better than 6-6? Who hurt you that you see the world so bleakly lol

  20. I guess you could look at OU prior to Stoops.... Bama prior to Saban...... PSU emerging from crippling sanctions Baylor-After the Briles debacle/Grobe Dykes-SMU Fleck-Minnesota I could go on, but I think it is wrong to look at the "situation he inherited" as an excuse for a sh!tty performance....Other coaches have done it....Frost to date, has shown minimal improvement (4-8 to 5-7).....I'm hoping next year we see even more. Frost just has a lot of soul searching to do moving forward. I want him to succeed. I want Chin to succeed....I want the team to succeed, but to date, not a lot of definitive positives to take away.

  21. Thanks! The yo-yo of praise to rage is sometimes pretty hilarious around here. This board was excited for Iowa after beating Maryland and there was much talk about going bowling. Now we lose and people want to fire Frost, fire Chinander, fire DeWitt, play the backup quarterback, plus prepare for another 4-8 season next year. It's amazing some people don't get whiplash flopping back and forth like this.

  22. You're talking about secondary market tickets. They've already been sold and are being resold. I think some people are talking a last second loss to a decent Iowa team pretty hard. We win that game and none of these raging hot takes permeate the board. We're going to be fine next year. It's a tough schedule but these kids are learning to fight harder. And we won't be a team dominated by Freshmen and Sophomores.

  23. Scott Frosts biggest mentor was Tom O. Many may not remember how stubborn TO was. He lost two national championships in the early and mid 80's because he refused to put any of his best recruits on the D side of the ball. I really think he expected to outscore everyone with an offensive scheme that opposing defenses couldn't stop. (Sound familiar?) Against a weak Big 8 it worked but against the Miami's and other national powers with speed on D it stalled time after time. It took from 1984 till about 1992 for Tom to decide to change from a 5-2 to a 4-3. Tom could go 10-2 or 11-1 in the Big 8 but that stubborn mindset translates to 5-7 or 6-6 in the Big 10. I truly hope Scott spends this off season making the changes needed to win in this conference. The success or failure of this recruiting class will be huge in the future of this program.

  24. Iowa's offense is 102nd Iowa's defense 5th I agree that the offense sucked today (Martinez was bad all year), but Iowa's RB still had another career day.

  25. Wow this was a tough season. Never thought we'd struggle so much. Colorado, Purdue, Indiana, and Iowa. All winnable games and if we had just split them the season would have a very different outlook but instead we went 0-4. This was really more of a 7-5 team but there is plenty of blame to go around and there is so much to fix so it's gut check time...are you in this for the long haul or not? Better find out quick. We are riding the Frost train for a long time. And I think that is the right move considering we have to keep younger players and recruits. As for this game vs Iowa: Play calling was poor. The swing passes and bubble screens were terrible. We don't have the blocking to make these plays work. More athletic defenders blow up this play regularly. Mills was having a strong game and then we go away from him? Why? Run the hot hand. McCaffrey comes in and shows immediate impact on the game and then really is not considered again, despite AM struggles to move the ball. Clock management was awful as we all know. Taylor-Britt made a nice pick six but seems like he is always in slow pursuit mode on big plays and it happened today again. He needs to gain speed. The defense has no pass rush. Man, this has been a problem for going on a decade that I have harped on every season. Why we don't recruit pass rush specialists is a major blind spot. Special Teams is not very good as we know. Future outlook: What the heck do we do with so many things to fix? Get healthy. Wandale was missing big today. I think we need to use him much smarter next season. Warner and Pickering were missing due to injuries this year too and it hurt us big time. I think the OL recruiting is going in the right direction. This has to happen for Frost's vision on offense to work. I'll wait and see on how the recruiting finalizes but if we don't finish in the Top 15 then I won't be impressed. This is now Priority #1 until signing day. I think McCaffery is the starter next year. I think Frost wants the Mariota / Milton prototype. AM is too big, indecisive, and plodding for this. To me he actually looks like he needs to drop weight and get back to more lean athleticism. Vedral fits it more but is a poor man's version of it. McCaffrey is somewhere in between it seems but his pure athleticism needs to be on the field. He is a dangerous runner much more so than the others and seems to have the best play action abilities. MoWa...we could have used him for sure. Will he be back? What the hell are we doing with the TE's? Seems like we have a lot of them on the roster and none are making a difference. We need at least one who excels as a blocker and another as a receiver threat (Hickman?). Gosh this position seems so underutilized. WR's...we are thin. Williams, Noa, and Woodyard are senior departures and none of them did anything this year. We are in need of serious upgrade at WR. Defense...yikes? Some bad asses need to emerge from this heap of ashes. Defensive player development is crucial. If I am a stud defender recruit we need to land these recruits because you could be a serious legendary Blackshirt. There is a ton of playing time to be had. So, no more buying into the hype: First year...it was almost impossible not to be optimistic with Frost's hiring (like how could that not be worth 2-3 more wins just for that?). Didn't happen. Second year...OK we now have that cruddy transition season over, we have our QB, and the schedule is easy...easy 8-9 win season. Really didn't happen. Third year...wow, we are not where we need to be after 2 crappy seasons. I'm calling 6-6 next season. Tell me why I am wrong. I'm in with Frost because he is our long term coach but I think this is a long term fix. GBR.

  26. Martinez looks bad to fans because all we see and focus on are his mistakes. Martinez looks good to the coaches because they remember how many good things he has done and think he can do that again, while having more of the playbook available. McCaffrey is like the new girl who is slightly different than your current girlfriend. You are into her more because she’s a blonde instead of a brunette, and you think she will treat you better in the long run. McCaffrey has done well in limited opportunities, but he hasn’t been asked to carry a team for an extended period of one game, let alone a full season. It’s easy for fans to want to hope that McCaffrey will be better, but we aren’t exactly sure what will happen.

  27. He’s not wrong...so far Frost isn’t getting it done. And if he doesn’t make changes in his coaching... he won’t be getting it done in the future.

  28. What are some intangible things that have dramatically improved since Frost has been here: #1. Effort on defense #2. Effort on perimeter blocking #3. Effort in general Things take time to build. I was happy with a ton of things from last nights game. Not satisfied but happy to see progress. Frost is doing a great job, if our fanbase would stop jumping down his throat whenever we stumble...that would be better!

  32. IDK but I think Tommie would feel right at home in a typical HB game thread. Loved him when he was our QB, now not so much. Criticizing things during and after a loss is extremely easy but the “can’t get it done” comment is ridiculous.

  33. this^^^ Crazy mizzou fired Odom. Probably could have used a staff at mizzou today. I coached in the 6a title game today and the team we faced had 11 kids with P5 offer. The 2 cornerback were 5 star kids. We came up short losing 35-20.

  39. People keep saying things like this and it just is really far from actuality. First of all, the tickets are sold 5 months before the season opens. I can tell you as one of the poorest/newest season ticket holders around, when I get my chance to select tickets at the very end of the window, there are scant few available still. This has not changed a bit over the past 3 years. It is the same in basketball, btw. Nebraskan's buy these damn tickets still. Now, they may have to reduce the donations at some point, and even that is a HUGE maybe, but as sure as I sit here today, we could lose every game for the next 5 years and the U would find a way to move all the tickets with ease. Secondly. There were NOT a bunch of empty seats yesterday. Attendance was again 89.6K which is a full stadium. Were some people hanging out in warmer areas and were some students missing? Yep.. But saying that fans didn't show up to the tune of almost 90k is wrong, and that is for a 5-6 team in a sleet fest on a holiday weekend.

  42. Funny, against Colorado, did we suddenly get substantially less talented in the second half? Does our defense become less talented on the opponents last possession of the game? Does a lack of talent cause us to open the second half of a game with a timeout? Now, I’m by no means calling for drastic changes, or at this point, any changes in staff And I realize we lack top tier talent on the OL, and overall team depth wise. But to lay all the problems off on talent is showing blind faith a staff that at this point doesn’t deserve that faith. I hope they get to the point that they do.

  43. I learned that three star recruit Nate Stanley is a much better QB than four star Adrian Martinez. Nate delivered when his team needed him. Adrian showed how little he understands his position when he stopped the clock by going out of bounds allowing Iowa enough time to get into field position. Let us face it, he did that because he was afraid to take a hit and not because of the flimsy excuse that he and Frost gave. I said it during the game thread, put in Luke and we win, leave Martinez and we lose. What is there more to learn. We already know where Martinez will take us...definitely not bowling.

  44. ^^^^^^^^^^^The Big Gripe about him right from the beginning here at Nebraska. That and his quote: "I don't like kickers." Well, you live and die by the things you say, Buster Brown. There went your season: Off the foot of a kicker.
