  1. I say this with all due respect, but f#&% that nonsense.

  2. Do you know who beat Oklahoma early in the season last year? Kansas State and Iowa State. Are Kansas State and Iowa State too lofty for Frost and Moos to role model? FFS.

  3. If Nebraska is so desperate for revenue that we'd consider canceling the the Game of the Century reunion, maybe we should look at all options... ...like selling beer at the stadium.

  4. The big selling point of Nebraska's culture is tradition, support, and pride to play in the big games. Pulling out of a game against Oklahoma is the antithesis of everything Nebraska football has proclaimed to be. It would be such a slap in the face of the people that have supported Nebraska to trade all of that for an 85% chance of winning a home game that won't be remembered in two years. The athletic department needs to have an answer very soon to prevent this rightful embarrassment escalating further.

  5. The financial explanation doesn’t hold up: if you want extra revenue, how much “extra” do you really make? Home ticket sales and concessions? There’s no guarantee that we will have full stadiums by fall. Even if we do, you still have to pay the buyout to OU and pay the new team to come here. After those expenses, is what you have left REALLY worth losing all your integrity and respect over? Sadly, the damage is already done and it’s more permanent than we all realize. You can be labeled a lot of things in football and life....but scared is a label that’s impossible to come back from.

  7. This would be quite honestly, the biggest chicken Sh** move in years at NU given 1. The timing 2. The opponent 3. The reason/celebration for the series being scheduled in the first place and 4. The fact that we are supposed to be rivals and have a mutual respect for OU. This is just flat out embarrassing for NU regardless of what happens.

  9. Hired two coaches who revived hope in the two sports that generate the most revenue that were going through some rather depressing periods. Also brought in Bolt, a quality baseball coach after Erstad stepped down. In addition, he's brought stability to the department post-Eichorst/Perlman and had the cajones to publicly stand by his coach when the conference and sports media were against us last fall. 100% believe Perlman & EIchorst would not have the guts to push back against the conference. He hasn't been perfect (who has?) but I think his intentions have been to help the program build towards being a top 10-25 program again. Today's news wasn't ideal and obviously looks bad but I'm in the camp that he's done far more good for the department than bad.

  10. IF ...if this story is true then: Nebraska's program really has become soft. Moos should be fired immediately. This would be a bigger tone deaf move than what Eichorst did with the Black Friday game with Iowa.

  11. So the AD nets $5 million per home game with a full stadium. Even with the progress of the Covid vaccines, I think it's fair to say we probably won't see full capacity this fall. For the sake of conversation, let's say we have half capacity. That would reasonably put the revenue at $2.5 million. Factor in the buyout for the OU game which is $1 million. So that leaves the AD with a $1.5 million net revenue. There's no guarantee of getting a W. The brand will take an irreparable hit, with unprecedented fan outrage. All to net $1.5 million? I'm not really seeing the revenue argument. If they want to recoup lost revenue, sell alcohol at games.

  12. Fans will hate it and opposing fanbases and media will mock us BUT this is a good decision by Moos. We already have to now play @ Illinois in the opener who we just lost to and they return lots of players as we do. New coach but this game will be a tough one. You then come back and play a Buffalo team who is no slouch either. Then you want us to go lose at Oklahoma (that's what would have happened). Possibly then 1-2 and the walls are caving in on Frost and Nebraska early. We already have crossover games of Michigan, Michigan St and Ohio State. FROST NEEDS DUBS. Period. People look at your record. I've seen teams schedule patsies for the past decade and no one cares - they look at your record. We aren't there yet. We need to get wins and confidence in this team.

  13. I was trying to think of a way to not sound terribly over dramatic b/c its not like I am furiously storming away from being a fan, but this is kinda the case for myself. Plenty of other things add to the falling interest for me personally beyond them stinking on the field, but things like big non conference games still get me juiced up for a Saturday built around the Huskers. Backing out of a game that the fanbase has been looking forward to for a decade would be a huge bummer.

  15. agree with most of you. This suggests that "The Program" has officially tanked (we now are perennial bottom dwellers in AD and HCSF view is what this suggests). using the excuse $$ is the reason is BS. Everyone is hurting financially! This is cowardice in the face of OU whopping our collective butts. This is one of the few times since Pederson was in charge that I'm embarrassed for "The Program". Time to rethink Moos' job status. maybe even Scott's if he signed off on or was the instigator of cowarding away from OU. Face it, we're likely to take a beatdown at OU, but that pales in comparison to the looking like a bunch of pu$$ies.

  16. I think everyone should pump the brakes until Nebraska releases a statement. If anything, this past year should have taught us to take what the media says with a grain of salt.

  17. You can't have it both ways. It was Frost's choice to burn the thing to the ground and alienate current players at that time. Losing was going to happen to start with when you make that choice. Now that we're 4 years in and he's scrambling it's his own bed he is laying in. Trying to escape big games that you will probably lose is not any way to build culture and a winning program, quite the opposite actually. What would you be saying if Iowa was backing out of a big game? Nothing because they wouldn't. Avoiding tough teams is not a way to reverse the close loss trend. Improved game management, actually paying attention to special teams, and not getting constantly out maneuvered in the second half would be a good start there.

  18. Just remember that beating weak teams and losing to conference rivals is what lost Bo Pelini his job. It will likely lose Jim Harbaugh his job, too. That's not a Nebraska thing, it's a winning thing. As someone just pointed out, there is no glory or even progress in going 4-8 vs. 3-9 if you swap Oklahoma for Bethune-Cookman, and it this case it might be the opposite. Know how some folks are paranoid about the national media having it in for Nebraska? They don't, really. But there would be no other way to report this. We ran away from celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Game of the Century. Easy fix, though. If we just want to ensure this heralded game is celebrated in a full stadium, work to push it back later in the season or till next year. But do it transparently. Anything less and Nebraska takes a huge and deserved hit. And what if we gave Oklahoma a good fight in a close loss, like we did a much better Ohio State team on the road in Frost's first year? What if....we won? A team that's scared of its own shadow will never know.

  20. So the Democrats, the supposed party of amoral baby murderers, cannibals, and pedophiles, are calling for the resignation of one of their most high profile leaders but the Republicans, the guardians of all that is holy in Merika, said nothing, nada, zip, zero about their Dear Leader's well documented predatory behavior. Any Trumpets care to help me figure out the difference here? I'll wait.

  21. Dare I say it but this will be possibly the worst decision the program has made in my lifetime. And in the last 20 years, that's not an easy bar to clear. The financial benefits won't make up for the damage that I believe it would do to the Nebraska brand, perhaps for a generation. I have a feeling a lot of people might walk away and not come back.

  22. There has to be something else behind this that isn't about the competition because the Huskers are getting dragged regardless of when this happens. They want another home game?

  23. Man we really thought we were gonna be something heading into the Frost/Moos reign. God we were wrong.

  24. Well, at least one person bought that sob story. The more I think about this OU situation, the more it pisses me off. Moos is an embarrassment to this program. Frost, the coach, is an embarrassment to this program. The fact that they even considered this should shorten both of their leashes in terms of job security.

  25. 1 home game isn’t going to fix that, and all anyone’s going to remember is they backed out of this particular game and we look like wimps and a$$h@!es. Additionally we were prepared better financially for something like this than 90% of the other schools so I don’t buy this excuse. The pandemic affected every school and town. Maybe if a tornado hit us like a hurricane hit like at LSU a year or two ago I could accept the excuse. As it is it’s bulls#!t. And I think it’s a lie. I doubt the university spent a passing thought on the effect to the town of Lincoln. Moos and maybe Frost are worried about losing another game and maybe as a secondary thought, the money.

  26. Whoever is laughing at the posts, I would love for you to reveal yourself and explain why you are. There is this false narrative that Scott has 7-8 years to figure this out. I will tell you right now, he doesn't. He has this year to turn it around big time. He knows it and Moos knows it. If it's another 4-5 wins to go with this crap, he's out. And there is a possibility he packs it up himself. I want Nebraska to win with whoever is the coach. But I cannot see how they will anymore with him at the helm.

  27. As a competitive person there are so many things that piss me off about this situation, but what drives me insane is that this staff and AD essentially told the players is that they do not believe they could beat OU. You have stripped the point of competition away from these guys, and I would have to believe this leaves a nasty taste in the mouth in some of the players on that team. If it doesn't, then fire this staff because they have failed at the most fundamental level and there is no way to rise up from that. This is a new low and a rock bottom that I didn't think we would ever discuss.

  28. I just did something I've never done in my 60 years as a Husker fan. I called the Athletic Department. The answering system gave me a lot of choices, but I went with the Communications Department, precisely because they're stuck in the middle of this. Nice young guy answered. I said "you've probably gotten a lot of calls today." He said that was correct. Told him I'd never been this embarrassed by the program before. He seemed understanding, told me they had just issued the statement (posted above) and offered to read it to me. I told him I was glad they responded, but the unanswered speculation about how they must have been spinning this for the last 8 hours wasn't a good look for Moos or Frost. He did not deny that, either. I asked if he could give me any inside dirt that I could spread on social media. He laughed. I feel sorry for the Comms department.

  29. 1) Commit to playing the game. 2) Claim a misunderstanding, even if we know it's bulls#!t. 3) Apologize to Nebraska fans and the Oklahoma program. We look forward to honoring the Game of the Century 4) Hope this is forgotten in six months; do everything possible in that time to field a competitive team loaded with self-respect.

  30. I think this is the most likely answer, if this story has any legs at all. The AD lost a boatload of money this past year and I would imagine that having possible backup games lined up is now standard operating procedure if it wasn't already.

  31. It makes zero business sense in the long run. The brand, what's left of it, can't take the image of being chickens#!t. The impact will be felt far beyond whatever revenue is generated above the current deal.

  32. All for playing OU, but with tOSU, Mich and Mich St as crossovers this might not be the year to play them. This year is so important to get the win total up. We will have more than enough opportunities to play against the big boys this year. No need to also take on a game against OU.

  35. No. Ridiculous. Non-negotiable. Given the history of this program (which is all we have left), if we had to cancel 11 games on the schedule, this is the only one the majority of fans would choose to keep. Even toying with this idea was the stupidest thing ever.

  36. I'm not sure this coach or this program are capable of being motivated. The program is s#!t, and on top of that, Frost and Moos continue to embarrass the program/fan base at nearly every turn.

  39. Let's also keep in mind that this was likely leaked by an OU source to generate public pressure to keep it scheduled. So it very well might have been some preliminary kicking the tires on the revenue/seeing if we could possibly even get an opponent and now it's "nEbRAsKa'S tRyINg tO CaNCeL".

  40. The AD said in 2020 that each home game generates $5 million in revenue and about $12 million total when taking into account the local economy. Even if all the other optics and variables make this a bad idea, that type of cash flow is nothing to scoff at as an athletic department, particularly when UNL is one of a handful that actually generates profit each year. I'm not saying pulling out against OU is the right call to make, but if revenue is an important KPI for you (which we know it is in the AD), then that may be why they looked into it.

  41. Maybe they should play Kearney, Chadron, Augustana, and some intramural teams until some winning and fun is had.

  42. I'll have to disagree. Losing games is something that obviously will go away with winning. Running with your tail tucked between your legs is something you don't overcome easily even if (when) the program turns the corner. The brand was always about hard-nosed football. Of course that's in tatters now but when you consider the history of the rivalry, ducking out would be a colossal mistake. We'll see how this plays out but at a minimum this will be fodder on the recruiting trail. I'm wondering what it'll do to merchandise sales. I'm with you on the exploratory aspect. I still can't see this happening.

  43. Frost got blown out by Illinois last season.

  44. Is Moos trying to get fired? I'm a bit sceptical about this report though. No amount of money is going to make up the loss of face, the hit to recruiting, the fan outrage. If this report is true there's no way it's simply due to ducking a tough opponent. If that comes out as the case I gotta figure the whole lot from Moos on down gets canned.

  45. Already counting us out before the game is played. Only thing I can think of is for more money, since the Big 10 screwed us out of more money last year. This is pissing me off. You talk about wanting to play, in order to be the best you have to play AND beat the best. Not happy.

  46. If this is true, this is not a good look for Moos and Frost.
