  1. There's literally nothing in the official statement to substantiate your original claim: Maybe don't make a thread entitled "Lets Not Forget", if you'd like to move on.

  2. This team is ready to turn a corner. If there’s no letdown this week and they grab a W, this team is sounding ready to pop and rattle off some big wins.

  3. What a development! In the span of two days we have transitioned from meandering Big Ten West bottom feeder to unstoppable. And who says message boards don't have value. The Kool Aid evidently comes with a free Xanax these days. Today we theoretically lay waste to Iowa and Wisconsin, tomorrow...look out Ohio State! We will dominate you with our collective imaginations!

  4. If you know anything about the crafting of official statements, this one confirms that Nebraska was doing what it was accused of doing. If Scott Frost was never consulted, that's an even worse look for the program. https://saturdaytradition.com/nebraska-football/nebraska-releases-statement-on-oklahoma-game/ If it makes you guys feel better, forget the rumors and just remember the debate: Would it be better for Nebraska to schedule an extra patsy to help Scott Frost get an easy W and make a little money for the AD? Or potentially take our lumps against a highly ranked Oklahoma team in a nationally televised game? (assuming that was a healthy payout, too) At the end of the day, Nebraska was better for nutting up. That's worth remembering. Because it will come up again. IMHO.

  5. Yes, let's not forget about unsubstantiated rumors because <insert complaining>.

  6. The talent level between Nebraska and Oklahoma seemed more or less equal, so one thing I don't ever want to hear again is we just don't have the horses. We absolutely do. It's just a matter of coach having the team prepared.

  7. Play-action passing by Martinez this year per PFF: Illinois: 5/11, 96 yards, 8.7 ypa, 31.8% of all passes Fordham: 15/20, 229 yards, 11.5 ypa, 80.8% of all passes Buffalo: 4/7, 82 yards, 11.7 ypa, 33.3% of all passes Oklahoma: 9/11, 172 yards, 15.6 ypa, 33.3% of all passes Total Play-Action: 27/40, 451 yards, 11.3 ypa, 34.6% of all passes Non-Play-Action: 38/59, 566 yards, 9.6 ypa, 65.4% of all passes

  8. Levi played his a$$ off. This catch was as good as any in the game. I get people are upset we lost a game we could have won but bagging on players who are giving Nebraska everything isn't the answer- ever. Have some class...

  9. I’m not sure what to make of this. All of their notes about missed tackles, lack of pressure, general bad run defense, etc are spot on. But considering who we were playing and the end result, it seemed as if the D played one of it’s better games. I guess if we’re going to say a couple missed kicks, special teams gaffes and bonehead penalties kept us from winning, we also have to say that better run defense could’ve flipped this to the W column as well. Kind of hard to believe (or not really) that we didn’t get beat by OU as much as we beat ourselves, again. That would be very encouraging if we were showing any signs of correcting the kicking, special teams and penalty issues.

  10. The tide starts to turn though when this is what teams think they have to sell out to do coming into a game...and then Martinez hits post route bombs like the one he hit with Betts on Saturday. I think that's where the 2017 UCF team was so dangerous. Can we keep doing this? If we can, I'm not even sure that Wisconsin & Iowa can stop us.

  11. Just wanted to give a quick shout out to Rhamir Johnson on his play against Oklahoma! I thought he had some potential, but he seemed to run timed at times. He proved me wrong, well done sir. I still think that Gabe (sucks he got hurt), has the most upside, but excited to see how Rhamir progresses the rest of the season. Regarding the rest of the RB's, going to have to see, odd Stepp didn't get a snap.

  12. Interesting topic. If you have been on Huskerboard for the past 6 years, you have witness the change in me regarding politics. I'm a lot like what @BigRedBuster said above - no more ra ra for any party. I think I've circled some what back to my earlier years. I was a fan of Robert Kennedy and Hubert Humphrey (for you young guys - they don't go back as far as Washington or Jefferson. I was 12 when Robert Kennedy was shot and I did my big college history paper on HHH). While I am still a big fan of Reagan. I am not a fan of the GOP any longer. The party has changed and left me as Reagan so famously said about the Dem party years ago. Between the Bush family trying to convert the whole world to a democracy and failing and Trump coming in and taking over the party, I have little faith that the current GOP can get back on track. I use to be a big Glenn Beck, Rush, Hannity, FoxNews addict and now I can't stand to listen to conservative talk radio because of the blinders they have on and the regurgitation of party talking points. I am much more open to other view points on health care, taxes, and other domestic issues. I now find NPR much more enlightening than conservative talk radio even though NPR has a more liberal bent. Foreign affairs I've gone from being a hawk to a dove - use war only as a necessary last resort to preserve our country. No more nation building and supporting the Military Industrial Complex. Social issues: Still 100% pro-life but I understand the other side of the argument better - I wish there was a better middle ground to be found on that issue. Other social issues - I'm more open to the discussion - the other side does not equal 'evil' just different. I view liberals as no different than conservatives in that they are both trying to make the country a better place - just have different paths they are taking to get there and different emphasis and priorities. I think most issues we can find middle ground if we stopped yelling past each other. Religion / Faith: In my life I've gone from an atheist/agnostic to a believer in Jesus Christ and Christianity. I don't know who HuskerX is but in general, I don't find the atheist argument convincing. However, I have mellowed my 'fire and brimstone' take on faith from my earlier faith days. With the assistance of writers like Anglican & Oxford Theologian NT Wright (Books: Surprised by Hope, Simply Jesus, Simply Christianity, When the Revolution Began, When God Became King) and Brad Jersak (Book: Her Gates Will Never Be Shut-Hope, Hell, and the New Jerusalem), Brian Zahnd (Book: Sinners in the Hands of a Loving God), Richard Rohr, and others similar, I've come to see that the Gospel is much larger, more inclusive, and found God to be much more loving than what the Americanized Gospel presents. I've also developed a healthy distrust of the American (maybe it is universal) mixing of religion and politics. I use to accuse the 'liberal church' of it but now the conservative, evangelical church is swamped in Trumpism and that gives me grave concern. Of course the conservative church was caught up in politics beginning wt the Moral Majority of the late 1970s but that was "my side" so it was OK. So, I'm more persuaded, now, about religion and spirituality being a more private thing. It can be spoken in the public square but that risks that it gets 'spoiled' by charlatans (both religious and political, left and right) who use religion for their own power grab. I also look at 'unbelievers' as not being different but rather the same in that we are all on a journey. Over the years, @knapplc & I have had some deep discussions on HB about faith issues and while we might disagree on some of the conclusions, I've learned that each person has their own path to walk and we still can be friends and respectful and sharpen and challenge each other in a positive way. I consider all of you friends, esp Knapp, even if we have a different view on faith issues. I've decided not to go deep into 'who is right and who is wrong' on these kinds of discussions. God (who may not exist in the eyes of some of you) doesn't need me to defend him, and I'm not going to risk a relationship by arguing needlessly over points we might disagree on. Open friendly discussion is ok but hostility on any topic accomplishes nothing.

  14. If you've got something that states Frost wanted to cancel the game, as you're claiming, then post it. Moos never said that in any official statement I've seen.

  15. And experience... We have athletes who can hang with about anyone, no doubt. We do not have the same level of experience as most in the top 25. The job of coaching becomes exponentially easier the more experience your team has.

  16. Besides the first game there hasn't been much issues w/ punt distance. Also I learned, Nebraska never gets better, the teams we play just aren't as good as their ranking.

  17. I wouldn’t underestimate MSU. They’re very well coached and play sound fundamentally. They don’t make a lot of mistakes. We’re gonna have to pull out all the stops from here on out to put our guys in a position to win.

  18. If it wasn't for the covid year sicherman and hixon would be seniors, jurgens would be a junior, piper and benhart would be sophomores and everyone of them was redshirted. The coaches have had plenty of time with these guys.

  19. Exactly! They held Buffalo to 3 points, the same Buffalo team that lost by only 3 to the number 17 team in the country! They then turn around and by most people’s standards shut down OUs offense, at least compared to it’s normal production. Maybe I’m a hopeless dreamer, but it seems like this team is on the cusp of turning the corner

  20. Did you watch the same NU-Buffalo game the rest of us did? The same game in which they only scored 3 points? The same game that the Blackshirts held UB to just 135 yards rushing, 224 yards passing, and 359 total offensive yards? How about a Blackshirt squad that has held one of the top offensive teams in recent history to their lowest point total in several years?

  21. He's not a potential hypsman candidate. But we did play a pretty good team down to the wire; and they were kind enough to only bring 3 and 4 man pressures, so our shoddy line looked serviceable. Adrian has never been the problem with this team, he's always been the gum that's plugging the leak at 1000 feet below the surface.

  22. Here’s a compromise. Those that feel this is highly important can choose to not forget about it. The rest of us who think it was overblown to begin with can forget about it. The game was not canceled. The game was played and I think we can all agree that playing OU, even though we lost, was probably more positive than playing another Fordham or Buffalo.

  24. Maybe Trev can call Bill Callahan up, put him on speakerphone, and ask him in front of Frost how being tethered to your friend went for him? Again--still maintain that if Bill Callahan would have had the gumption to get someone else in as DC, there's a strong chance he would still be our coach (in a good way).

  25. Speaking of that catch, why is that not targeting? The defender led (even lunged which is considered a no-no) with his shoulder directly at the receivers head.

  26. I would have bet money that Martinez was going to be here this season and next but now I’m not so sure. Maybe I’m just being a homer but I’m seeing a lot of twitter takes about how Martinez outplayed Rattler Saturday, with a lesser supporting cast and against a much nastier edge rusher. Adrian has flaws but watching what Lamar Jackson did last night, I don’t see why Martinez can’t have some success in the NFL in the right landing spot. Lamar Jackson made a couple mistakes and didn’t really complete any pretty throws, he just made incredible play after incredible play and knew when to attack on the ground and when to make the pass. Now he’s in a completely special tier of playmaker at QB but it wouldn’t surprise me if Martinez shoots up some draft boards, especially if he continues to keep his TOs down and if we can string together some wins.

  28. I think S&C can be a difficult factor to evaluate. To a man, most of the o-line looks the part. And to my inexpert eye, it seems like the 1:1 battles they lose has more to do with bad technique and leverage than it does sheer strength. I do think Austin is probably on his way out after this season. I'm just not sure how you justify retaining him unless the o-line shows some kind of significant improvement the rest of the season. It's year four and we could easily argue that the offensive line has been the most inconsistent and underperforming position group in the Frost era. And that's just unacceptable as a B1G program with aspirations of competing for conference titles. If you have average to below average lines in the B1G then you're a bad program - full stop.

  29. Good summary. The two possible outcomes I see are a 4-6 point Husker win, or we really start to click and win by 14-17 (probably a little far fetched though I admit)

  30. Chinander's vision for his version of the 3-4 has really panned out nicely. Built to stop the run, and have recruited some good corners to shore up the passing game. Now we just need Nelson to find his inner Caveman Martin for this game on Saturday night and put their QB on his a**!

  37. We have run play action all year. Not sure where this started or came from? Maybe some 55 followers? I already proved him painfully wrong on that point and it died for a while. Bottom line- Nebraska regularly uses play action... In every game... Just like almost every other football team on the planet. In fact, we have done it pretty well this year.

  38. How many receptions did Liewer have? you don’t always have to double down on a bad opinion.

  39. I mean ... this is the "Oklahoma: what did we learn?" thread. So talking about the Oklahoma game seems appropriate. How many more snaps do you want him to play when he was out with an injury? Is that Frost's fault too?

  40. One thing for sure this season. AM is not the problem...... Here is a good (painful) article about our offensive woes. https://hailvarsity.com/football/amid-signs-of-progress-elsewhere-questions-remain-on-nebraskas-o-line/ One part of the game I didn't know was that under Riley when scoring 24 or less the Sooners are 0-8.......We just can't catch or create a break
