  1. Solid content. Top to bottom. Certainly not some circle jerk of the same 3-4 posters repeating lazy arguments for coaches that won’t come here, while repping each other’s idiotic comments.

  6. Most of our fans would rather hire Mickey Joseph instead of Urban Meyer. Speaks volumes about them if you ask me, and not in a positive way. NU loves their nice guys and moral victories I guess. Until that stops, the losing will continue.

  7. Trev needs to hire the right person for the job instead of listening to fans. Fan choices got us a hothead on the sidelines and also gave us Scott Frost and his 4 losing seasons.

  8. Sure do like to try and make everything about you. Obviously a big name coach could bring in big recruits. That isn't some ground breaking take. Those guys are not coming here to coach. You can get recruits to Lincoln. Will it be a top 10-15 class probably not, but can pull top 20 classes. The development of the top talent they bring in is something that has plagued Nebraska for a long time. Hopefully they can find the right coach that can recruit and develop the talent they bring in.

  10. Thanks. I’ve dealt with many disgusting individuals. There’s quite a wide variety of them. The severity is on a spectrum. There are too many red flags with Meyer. To be fair to Urban’s supporters, many don’t have a good understanding of this sort of thing and have been fortunate to have not experienced it. He’s plenty shady and demonstrate considerable deception. I can say that with certainty. It’s best that Urban Meyer remains in broadcasting away from student athletes. Finally a word on the nastiness of coaches. Yes, most are very narcissistic. Some are truly narcissists. The two shouldn’t be confused. Like good teachers and other professionals, some can be viewed as a-holes. That’s usually associated with their demanding nature, standards and a desire for excellence. It isn’t abusive or neglectful in any way. There are others having mental pathologies that are dangerous to those they associate and do great harm in a wide variety of ways. Some are very covert with their actions hiding their conduct well. It disgusts me when these sorts are defended. I detest these perpetrators immensely. We are not talking about expecting people to be perfect absent having any “skeletons”. I’m referring to patterns of behaviors. How a person typically conducts themselves. Not isolated incidences where there is reflection on one’s actions and genuine remorse. There are good coaches that don’t have dangerous personality characteristics. And fewer that do. There is no reason or justification for enlisting a person of highly questionable character.

  11. We had a whole thread on that case when it went down in 2018: Urban Meyer knew about domestic abuse going on in his shop, and he failed to report it. He violated university policy and violated his contract. It wasn't the same as the atrocities at Penn State, Baylor, or Michigan State, but there is a commonality: he knew something and failed to report it. That is what happened in those other cases, when reporting could have prevented additional harm being done. You are either ignorant to what actually happened in this case, or worse, you do know and you just don't care. Given your insane rants in this thread over the past few days, I am going with the latter. It appears that you are not only willing to excuse inappropriate and/or abusive behavior, but you are actually condoning it as well. In addition to other things we have seen about Meyer since this case unfolded, it is clear that he is a horrible person. Based on your rationalization of his behavior, your obvious shilling for Urban Meyer, your whataboutism with other coaches, and your various disgusting comments over the past few days, I can only conclude you should never ever be involved in any hiring or personnel decisions.

  12. Meh. I think it's a tenuous argument to say fan pressure was the root of the issue. Particularly because it's leaving out Callahan & Riley, who weren't fan choices at all but were also train wrecks. I honestly can't believe the quantity of discussion around Urban Meyer. To me the odds of him being named seem astronomically small.

  16. A lot of people on here can’t stop talking about Urban’s character flaws, but they think Kiffin is fine when he is probably just as bad. I would much rather have Urban if NU is going to hire a douche.

  17. Yes, this never happens in Red states - which are far more dangerous, have much higher crime, and are regressive in every way imaginable. But I suppose when your political party has no solutions to problems other than enriching the wealthy at the expense of America, the only thing they have left is to motivate hordes of voters with scary make-believe problems.

  18. It's a funny thing: for the past decade I've been preaching about how a big-name coach could attract elite talent to Lincoln, and others here have always told me that it doesn't matter who the coach is, we have too many disadvantages (weather, low talent producing state, etc.), not even Saban could recruit here. Yet now, people seem to agree with the sentiment that a big-name coach like Meyer or Deion were to be hired, that they could attract big-name talent. I'm not understanding.

  19. If anyone has a loved one that is going through advance age health and needs to chat or vent, let me know. My mom has LBD (Lew body Dementia) and it has progressed so much over the past 6-10 months. I don't have answers, but I will be there for you. Submit your frustrations and difficulties or send me a message. I just went through a 30 hour missing person situation (mom) and thought the worse, for the entire time. Police found her and she is home safe. Thank you God. When someone you love is going through advance age issues, a brain disease or mental disorder (Alzheimer, Dementia, PTSD), it can be a frightening time in your life. But it is also super important that we stay calm, loving, supportive, strong, protective, kind, etc, etc... and just always be there for them, and for each other who needs support. God Bless, Let me know if I can help

Post your one off Taiwanese study that hasn't been peered reviewed but is not surprisingly being tauted by right-wing websites. 25. Callahan’s issue primarily was his defensive failures. He was too loyal to his buddy. The guy definitely fit the description of “grinder”. He spent considerable time in his office. Relating wasn’t his strong suit. Very good offensive line coach. Didn’t seem cut out to be a head coach though.

  37. So I’m terrible for acknowledging reality that football is a dirty game and the elite programs are typically dirty? Is that not true? Sports, like anything else that involves money, usually is filled with shady business. If you don’t like my opinions, you have the freedom to scroll past my comments and not subject yourself to them since they seem to make you miserable. Like you, I have the freedom to voice my opinion. Anyone who believes sports are clean is living in an alternate reality.

  38. 1) I agree with your first point - I have a lot of confidence that Trev will hire based on his stated principles and traits he’s looking for in a HC. 2) The narrative that Frost was a “fan choice” hire is disingenuous and inaccurate at best. If you rewind to 2017, he was one of it not the biggest HC candidates as that season went along. Both Florida and Tennessee had him on their shortlists; in fact, most reports at the time had him as THE primary candidate for both those jobs in addition to Nebraska. It’s easy to dunk on him (and the hire) four years later but, at the time, it was nearly universally applauded across the CFB landscape. But, that’s why I feel like I’ve learned my lesson as a Husker fan. MR was a weird hire that ended badly. SF was a great hire that ended badly. Whomever gets hired next shouldn’t get any of us too high or too low. It’s all a bit of a crapshoot at the end of the day.

  43. Vote GOP! We’ll fix the economy by making the rest of life worse, too! By Alexandra Petri Columnist|Following October 21, 2022 at 7:00 a.m. EDT Voters! We are thrilled to see that so many of you are leaning R this fall! And we hear it’s because of … the economy? Wild! To our knowledge, we haven’t been saying anything about the economy or offering any kind of exciting plan to fix it! As far as I can see, we’ve just been calling Joe Biden a socialist, fear-mongering about the existence of trans people and suggesting that people who want us to denounce antisemitism are Like “1984,” But Worse! That’s why we appreciate your confidence so much! As you clearly have realized, when one thing is going very poorly, you have options! Try to fix it, or just make everything else worse, too! Vote Republican, and we guarantee to do our level best to distract you from the economy by impeaching everyone in government, putting Marjorie Taylor Greene in charge of more things, and, in our spare moments, urging the Supreme Court to eliminate any more rights or protections that might be lying around! I have always been a big believer in the idea that if you have a stomach ulcer, you should immediately also break your arm. Suddenly, the stomach ulcer is just one of a large set of problems you are dealing with! Time you would have spent dwelling on it is now time you will have to spend figuring out how to open heavy doors and brush your teeth with a cast. Well, that is how we feel about the economy. Is it bad? Absolutely! Do we have solutions? Is more tax cuts for the wealthy a solution? Okay, how about holding the debt ceiling hostage while we make cuts to Medicare? Please do not tell us if it’s not a solution, because it’s all we brought! Is … book bans? You have to think that if the supply of books goes down, the price of books goes up, and that’s probably good for bookmakers, right? I don’t understand how this works! Anyway, we are definitely going to ban books! Is … getting rid of access to abortion going to help the economy? We have to think not, right? Forcing more people to give birth in a system where there is already a grievous lack of support for parents is probably going to make it worse, not better, right? But the point is, we’re excited to find out! And, as I’m sure you realized when you decided to vote for us, the time you’re going to spend watching in horror as we force people to bear their rapists’ babies and threaten the jobs of doctors who try to provide life-saving care in the event of pregnancy loss is time you won’t be staring at your wallet! If you get arrested for missing your period, then having your period, inflation certainly won’t be the first thing on your mind! Has the economy gotten worse under Joe Biden? Yes. Will it get worse if you return a Republican majority to Congress this fall? Almost certainly also yes! But there will also be so many other things going on that you won’t have time to worry about it. Consider: More than 370 Republican candidates for national or statewide office have cast doubt on the 2020 election! So you’ll get to worry about the demise of democracy in addition to the decreasing value of your dollar! Not only will you need more dollars to achieve the same outcome, but thanks to gerrymandering and the new spate of state officials disinclined to approve ballots with which they disagree, you will need more votes to achieve the same outcome, too! In the meantime, look forward to lots more bills preventing you from mentioning that gay people exist, and requiring children to have genital exams to play sports! And maybe we’ll even come for gay marriage! Who knows! Anything to keep your mind off the economy! You’ll be so busy watching your liberties erode right and left (but mostly right) that you won’t even notice the rise of gas prices! As you hurtle across state lines in an ambulance on the brink of death, your rights decimated, your vote uncounted, your libraries shuttered — I guarantee the last thing you’ll be thinking about is the economy! Just like you wanted! Vote Republican today!

  44. Current inflation levels are driven almost entirely by CORPORATE greed. This does not mean you Nebraska millionaire business owner. This means Walmart, Tyson, Shell and BP, Koch Industries, Smithfield and more. We all should be pissed that the Fed is again screwing over the working class with higher interest rates, siphoning off our economic gains while letting these price gougers continue their illegal activity. This is what happens when a small handful of multinational corporations own every brand on the shelf. There are no market forces to keep them in check, no competition to undercut them. The system is broken and this proves it.
