Solid content. Top to bottom. Certainly not some circle jerk of the same 3-4 posters repeating lazy arguments for coaches that won’t come here, while repping each other’s idiotic comments.13 points

You were the one who mentioned pulling tail first man. YOU made that assumption first and that is the reason this whole conversation started in the first place.7 points

In the running for the most delusional post I've seen on HB.6 points

Most of our fans would rather hire Mickey Joseph instead of Urban Meyer. Speaks volumes about them if you ask me, and not in a positive way. NU loves their nice guys and moral victories I guess. Until that stops, the losing will continue.5 points

Trev needs to hire the right person for the job instead of listening to fans. Fan choices got us a hothead on the sidelines and also gave us Scott Frost and his 4 losing seasons.5 points

Sure do like to try and make everything about you. Obviously a big name coach could bring in big recruits. That isn't some ground breaking take. Those guys are not coming here to coach. You can get recruits to Lincoln. Will it be a top 10-15 class probably not, but can pull top 20 classes. The development of the top talent they bring in is something that has plagued Nebraska for a long time. Hopefully they can find the right coach that can recruit and develop the talent they bring in.5 points

Thanks. I’ve dealt with many disgusting individuals. There’s quite a wide variety of them. The severity is on a spectrum. There are too many red flags with Meyer. To be fair to Urban’s supporters, many don’t have a good understanding of this sort of thing and have been fortunate to have not experienced it. He’s plenty shady and demonstrate considerable deception. I can say that with certainty. It’s best that Urban Meyer remains in broadcasting away from student athletes. Finally a word on the nastiness of coaches. Yes, most are very narcissistic. Some are truly narcissists. The two shouldn’t be confused. Like good teachers and other professionals, some can be viewed as a-holes. That’s usually associated with their demanding nature, standards and a desire for excellence. It isn’t abusive or neglectful in any way. There are others having mental pathologies that are dangerous to those they associate and do great harm in a wide variety of ways. Some are very covert with their actions hiding their conduct well. It disgusts me when these sorts are defended. I detest these perpetrators immensely. We are not talking about expecting people to be perfect absent having any “skeletons”. I’m referring to patterns of behaviors. How a person typically conducts themselves. Not isolated incidences where there is reflection on one’s actions and genuine remorse. There are good coaches that don’t have dangerous personality characteristics. And fewer that do. There is no reason or justification for enlisting a person of highly questionable character.4 points

We had a whole thread on that case when it went down in 2018: Urban Meyer knew about domestic abuse going on in his shop, and he failed to report it. He violated university policy and violated his contract. It wasn't the same as the atrocities at Penn State, Baylor, or Michigan State, but there is a commonality: he knew something and failed to report it. That is what happened in those other cases, when reporting could have prevented additional harm being done. You are either ignorant to what actually happened in this case, or worse, you do know and you just don't care. Given your insane rants in this thread over the past few days, I am going with the latter. It appears that you are not only willing to excuse inappropriate and/or abusive behavior, but you are actually condoning it as well. In addition to other things we have seen about Meyer since this case unfolded, it is clear that he is a horrible person. Based on your rationalization of his behavior, your obvious shilling for Urban Meyer, your whataboutism with other coaches, and your various disgusting comments over the past few days, I can only conclude you should never ever be involved in any hiring or personnel decisions.4 points

Meh. I think it's a tenuous argument to say fan pressure was the root of the issue. Particularly because it's leaving out Callahan & Riley, who weren't fan choices at all but were also train wrecks. I honestly can't believe the quantity of discussion around Urban Meyer. To me the odds of him being named seem astronomically small.4 points

I'd rather have a douche that wins championships, than a character guy that doesn't.4 points

Actually, it has nothing to do w/ me. I just don't like the two-facedness and hypocrisy of certain people in this fanbase.4 points

A lot of people on here can’t stop talking about Urban’s character flaws, but they think Kiffin is fine when he is probably just as bad. I would much rather have Urban if NU is going to hire a douche.4 points

Yes, this never happens in Red states - which are far more dangerous, have much higher crime, and are regressive in every way imaginable. But I suppose when your political party has no solutions to problems other than enriching the wealthy at the expense of America, the only thing they have left is to motivate hordes of voters with scary make-believe problems.4 points

It's a funny thing: for the past decade I've been preaching about how a big-name coach could attract elite talent to Lincoln, and others here have always told me that it doesn't matter who the coach is, we have too many disadvantages (weather, low talent producing state, etc.), not even Saban could recruit here. Yet now, people seem to agree with the sentiment that a big-name coach like Meyer or Deion were to be hired, that they could attract big-name talent. I'm not understanding.4 points

If anyone has a loved one that is going through advance age health and needs to chat or vent, let me know. My mom has LBD (Lew body Dementia) and it has progressed so much over the past 6-10 months. I don't have answers, but I will be there for you. Submit your frustrations and difficulties or send me a message. I just went through a 30 hour missing person situation (mom) and thought the worse, for the entire time. Police found her and she is home safe. Thank you God. When someone you love is going through advance age issues, a brain disease or mental disorder (Alzheimer, Dementia, PTSD), it can be a frightening time in your life. But it is also super important that we stay calm, loving, supportive, strong, protective, kind, etc, etc... and just always be there for them, and for each other who needs support. God Bless, Let me know if I can help3 points

Ummm...this has actually gone through the peer review process unlike the garbage you posted. https://newsroom.ucla.edu/releases/covid-tied-to-wildlife-sales-at-wuhan-market https://www.ox.ac.uk/news/science-blog/wet-market-sources-covid-19-bats-and-pangolins-have-alibi https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2022/07/26/health/wuhan-market-covid-19/index.html https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abp8715 https://publichealth.jhu.edu/2022/origins-of-sars-cov-2 Ok shoot. Post your one off Taiwanese study that hasn't been peered reviewed but is not surprisingly being tauted by right-wing websites. If it turns out Covid started somewhere other than the wet market then so be it. But the reason you're posting the garbage study you did is so obvious and tired.3 points

Callahan’s issue primarily was his defensive failures. He was too loyal to his buddy. The guy definitely fit the description of “grinder”. He spent considerable time in his office. Relating wasn’t his strong suit. Very good offensive line coach. Didn’t seem cut out to be a head coach though.3 points

Race will definitely play a part in this hire if Trev is not careful he could be in some hot water as well.3 points

Saw another mention of PJ Fleck. Look, I don't give a crap if he's annoying if he can win. There's a lot of idiots in this fanbase. Look, I appreciate what Mickey has done, but he hasn't wowed me.3 points

you know he was born and raised in neb right? I think that if he were to come here he would stay3 points

Kiffin is the type of person that if NU hired him and he had success, he would leave for Alabama the minute the job opened. Just look what he did to Tennessee. His picture should be next to the word scum in every dictionary.3 points

Well that sounds like the same Frost Mania back in 2017. As much as we like MJ, he would be just as much - if not more of a novice HC as Frost was back then - With that said, I think MJ has the better character and aptitude for the job based on what we've seen from Frost and what we've seen from MJ the past month . I would like to.2 points

lol, yah he was "raised" here alright. I guess living here until you're 1.5 qualifies as spending the bulk of your adolescence and childhood here. You know, they say you really are who you are as a person by the time you turn 18 months old. Your surroundings and location at that point pretty much mold and direct who you are as a person for the rest of your life2 points

I don't want Urban, and I am of the mind that Trev doesn't want the program to deal with the headache that would come with hiring him either.2 points

This sounds like a bunch of excuses to me. Joe Paterno turned a blind eye to Sandusky's pedophilia, was that "ok" because Paterno wasnt Sandusky's father? If not, then how do we use that excuse for Urban's behavior?2 points

I don’t think it’s overly productive to argue what constitutes a “big name.” It’s a subjective qualifier. O’Brien and Aranda are both well known and well respected names in the CFB industry. O’Brien would likely be considered a very successful hire by a majority or very large portion of the CFB world. Anecdotally scouring message boards to see which potential Nebraska HC candidate is talked about more than the other doesn’t prove anything valuable. Might as well tell us what’s being said down at the nearest bar.2 points
