  1. Not so much an unpopular opinion, but a what if? If the Akron game in 2018 isn't canceled, Scott Frost squeezes into a bowl game his first season at Nebraska, and the mood lightens considerably.

  2. Right because Wisconsin, Alabama, and Georgia all suck against the run. I'm not saying Chinander has been good. I think he'll get it figured out, but it has not been close to good enough so far. Regardless though, the fact that we run a 3 man front isn't the issue.

  4. In my opinion, Tom will always be one of the greatest coaches in college football, however, with that said I have these bones to pick: Tom never should have picked his replacement Tom, as AD, should have picked a more seasoned coach instead of Bo If Tom could run for congress, run for governor or become the AD, he should have just coached another 5-10 years and we wouldn't be in the current mess. Tom should have just kicked the @%# extra point. (But I'm proud of him not doing so )

  5. I bet that if we really evaluated certain people (like the Costco example above) then we would see that this isn't the first time they've done something like that or acted in that way. It just happened to be a very publicized example of it. The same goes for people who hoarded mountains of toilet paper, diapers, sanitizing equipment, etc., even though manufacturers and government leaders said there was no reason to do so. Those people probably display regular selfish tendencies in life without much regard or concern for others.

  8. If Solich had not been fired, the program would not have turned into a shambles. We would have a few more conference championships and maybe even a couple more Nattys.

  9. I think it just reiterates things we already knew. A segment of the population will simply say "F*ck you, no" to anything, even if benefits them. Efforts to decrease pollution from car emissions have been put in place, and yet there are people who alter their trucks so that they emit and pollute more. We all benefit from clean air, why do that? We can't agree on clean air or clean water, why would we be able to band together during a pandemic? There are people who vote against Medicare for all candidates, measures, etc, when they themselves would benefit from medicare for all. If you don't care about your own life, why would you care about anyone else's?

  10. Haha...were you being funny here! That is awesome! It's my party and i'll cry if I want to...cry if I want to...cry if I want to... I agree, it is ridiculous. Maybe it is just how she copes.

  12. I get not wanting to wear a mask...I just don't get going to a place that requires you to wear a mask and then getting mad about. I mean...Costco also makes you wear pants...which is why I shop at Walmart instead.

  14. No doubt our own fanbase has been humbled, and for the better I am sure, painful painful painful as it has been. That said, I think we would be happy with that coaches record to a point, but having tasted national titles, after a long enough run of close but no cigar, there would be rumblings no doubt. I'm with Boneyard, I'd take our chances with a homegrown tough as nails Nebraska boy with a great coaching pedigree, good offensive knack, strong historic resume, and the passion to do this thing, all day long over as opposed to any other coach. The man is making changes, I don't understand why people won't give him at least some credit. The proof is in the pudding. He came in, the program was a mess, he did things his way. Not all of those things worked well, he used the drawing board, changed things up, and took a run at it again. New glaring holes showed up, so, he again this off season has gone back to the board, changed things, added things, and is ready to make a run again. I'm not as scared of the schedule as most. Like I said, we are either a good team or we are not. Good teams don't automatically fold wins to other good teams. Top 25 teams don't fear other Top 25 teams. So, we are either that caliber or we are not, but the team lined up across the field doesn't get to determine it.

  15. I’ve seen (surprisingly) a lot more good stories than bad throughout this pandemic. People and businesses going above and beyond to help out. About the only asshat things I’ve seen or heard of pertain to people of a certain political bent that want to deny science and pretend their rights are being infringed by being expected to do their minimal part in helping prevent the spread. I totally get the idea that we can’t decimate our economy by shutting things down more or longer than necessary but dang, wearing a mask, washing your hands and staying away from others as much as possible isn’t that devastating. I know many people are being financially hurt by this but isn’t the death rate already high enough? Cities are giving restaurants leeway to expand their seating into public areas and streets so they can serve a higher number of people. I think that’s great. It’s just going to take some time to get back to anything approaching normal. All I know is, anybody that gets within 10’ of me without wearing a mask and doing their part can stick their rights up their a$$.

  16. - Taylor Martinez gets too much unnecessary hate. - Bill Callahan gets too much hate. To be fair, this dude walked into an incredibly toxic situation. He recruited incredibly well, and seemingly ran a clean program. I believe he cared and did his best, it just didn’t happen to work, which I can respect. Unlike another pro style coach from the west coast we hired.

  17. True, and well over 50% of the people who are constantly saying run the ball more really have no idea what they are even watching. They just want to see more successful plays.

  18. I don't get this at all. We ran it 62% of the time last year with 540 rushes to 323 passes. Do you want us to run it 70 or 80% of the time? Should we never pass? Wisconsin is one of the top rushing teams in the conference and they ran it 63% of the time. Also, if you understand Frost's offense it is exactly what you describe wanting. It has a set of base plays and then the entire offense is based off of those base plays with changes in formations, motions and reads. So, my unpopular opinion is we have the run first offense that Husker fans want and with the reads and options it is as close to Tom Osborne's 90's offense as you'll ever get in today's game.

  22. Here's my biggest issue.. run the dang ball!! Stop playing fancy feet, stop trying to develop a 300 page play book. Instead, develop 100 plays that work and stick to those plays. Certainly a gadget play here or there but for heavens sake. Stop this mind set of.. if they do this, we'll counter and do this... Just be good at 33 plays with each having an audible or two of those 33 formations and perfect those formations and audibles.

  23. It's not just "player safety". It's the safety of the students on campus, professors, family members of students and athletes, local businesses, etc.... The more this spreads, the more pointless social distancing and masks matter. At this point, we might as well go the "herd immunity" route and just write off the 1-2 million people that will die or have life altering organ damage from it... I don't agree with that strategy, but it's what were working towards. Might as well just call it what it is.

  24. I get what you're saying, but let's not act like Michelle is just Barack's Wife. Bachelors from Princeton, JD from Harvard. She's ran non-profits, been the Dean of Students at U of Chicago, VP of U of Chicago Hospitals, she's sat on the board for multiple companies, and that's not to mention her accomplishments as a First Lady. I don't like the idea of her being VP because I hate the idea of one family having that much power - but Michelle is more than the CEO's wife or the Suregon's wife in your example.

  31. I am not asking them to do that. If they don't want to play, they should not play. But every practice and game they are putting themselves at risk of getting hurt (really badly) and they still go play.

  32. In fairness to Nebraska running backs, you'd have to track their output against the quality of Nebraska's offensive line, the run/pass ratio of the offensive schemes, and general satisfaction with the won/lost record at the end of the season. Guys like Ken Clark, Derek Brown, and Dan Alexander put up great career numbers in the glory years, , but might be just another Terrell Newby or Devine Ozigbo on recent Nebraska squads with substandard offensive lines. Just as there are system quarterbacks, there are system running backs. Forced to look this up, I just learned that Terrell Newby had more career yards than Doug DuBose or Jarvis Redwine. Go figure.

  34. I don't know if there is much of a difference, but I think the membership requirements of Costco or Sam's Club gives them additional legal rights to enforce masks and other rules. I am not a lawyer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once.

  36. Yea I have a hard time imagining a season with fans unless it is pushed back to the spring or we somehow avoid a second wave. All of the news coming out right now about this seems to bank on the idea the worst is behind us. Not an assumption I would be making yet, but then again I don't get paid the big bucks.

  37. Good on them using that for the benefit of everyone's safety. I was listening to morning radio yesterday and they brought up a recent news story that showed a restaurant that was excited to open and not requiring staff to wear masks. That's like the opposite end of the spectrum. Not that that is a horrible establishment that should be avoided forever, but it's a reflection that if they're not willing to follow THAT precaution they're probably not following others preparing your food. Then they got into a strip club in Utah that was requiring all staff and customers to wear masks at all times (except when drinking), staff also wearing gloves, was taking personal info to do contact tracing if someone tests positive, etc. You love to see a socially-responsible strip club.

  38. I think trying times like this bring out the best in people, along with the worst in people. Regarding Costco, I saw a great point online that Costco is able to require shoppers to wear masks because their warehouse requires a membership. So, the members have to abide by Costco's rules of membership, which can be amended at anytime.

  39. Seems unlikely they would relax social distances in a stadium setting. Its one thing to pass by someone momentarily but to sit and yell etc for hours close by? If anything id guess the 6 feet would be a minimum in a crowd / stadium location, especially when u add in all the crowding with restrooms, concessions, entry/exit and emergency and staffing people etc.

  41. That's likely true. However I think of the important variables right now, fatality rate is the least important among them. I don't think whether it's 0.5% or 4% or somewhere in between is a very important variable right now - we won't really know until months later anyway. The most important imo are the rate of increase in cases, case volume and hospitalization rate, and hospitals' capacity to handle that volume. We can't handle 5% of the population getting hospitalized in a short period of time, even if the death rate is only 0.5% or whatever it is. If hospitals are overwhelmed then fatalities and fatality rate increase (for multiple causes of death).

  42. Go back and watch this series. OSU calls a timeout to adjust and when we go back to it they stuff it every time. He tried to go back to it later in the game but OSU knew how to stop it. We caught them off guard and so it was more atune to a truck play.

  45. Nebraska football hasn't been as enjoyable since we left the Big 12. Not cause we sucked, cause we sucked in the Big 12 for a bit as well. I personally don't care about any "rival" or conference opponent in the Big 10. We just feel out of place.

  47. I think we'll actually be pretty good this season. Riley the snake oil salesmen talked a lot about what he was going to do....like the top 3 in the conference in rushing comment. Frost has been doing what needed to be done.....flip nearly the entire roster and make the offensive line a point of emphasis while still getting top notch skill players.
