It's been said time and time again, but you almost have to recruit some juco kids until your program is established. Also I know this has been said but Frost's first recruiting class was really a wash. Everybody called his first year "year 0" because of the disadvantages and the state of the program. Most of us are extremely frustrated with how the first few years have went, but there's a reason why they've been poor. It's a combination of poor coaching at times, recruits flaking out, and much more. There is a reason why it's a common thought that it takes 5 years to rebuild a program. I understand that it's not that way everywhere but if we can Frost after this year, how attractive is the Nebraska job? We have no choice but be patient and see what happens

There are many who share your opinions. But you often attempt to word your opinions as fact. And you are correct, if I placed blame on one person for the state of the Husker program the past 20 seasons it would be Harvey Perlman. The good news for me is he accepted such in his retirement speech about how he"ll be remembered in regard to Husker football. Perlman made the Nebraska head football coaching gig very undesirable. As far as three years being enough for Frost and Moos to establish continuity.....no. I happen to believe we'll be pretty good this season. You probably disagree. Feel free to make another phone call.

Eh ... Another thing people try to make into a big deal when it's not. Frost has been here three years. Coaches always have a four year deal. So the only difference is if they were going to for him after last season. If not, he'd be exactly where he is now one way or the other. He wasn't getting fired after three years, so it makes no difference. If he wouldn't have gotten the extension then, people would be complaining about a one year extension now.

Although talent should be "better" in year 4, I see nothing that would lead to believe Frost will be better in year 4......The whole OU debacle really has me doubting any improvement.

I don't personally think either Moos or Frost was looking to "duck" OU. I'm also not looking for any further explanation. Many of the sports columnists said financial considerations are a very real thing.....then ignore the reality of that in the rest of what they write to get their clicks and agitate. There were zero home games in 2020. That affected every city obviously, but Lincoln businesses aren't worried about Norman Oklahoma when they've been devastated financially. And I'm very much looking forward to the game and happy it's going to be played.

This whole mess has me concerned as well. If.Moos somehow was doing this on his own without the knowledge of HCSF then it may be time for him to move along since he clearly doesn't understand the Husker culture. But I have hard time believing he would do that. If HCSF was aware of it then WTF? He was born and raised in the culture and knows it better than anyone. In what universe did he think this would go down well with the fanbase? Regardless it has me asking just what the hell is going on in the athletic department to even entertain this kind of nonsense for even a millisecond? Not that I had much faith coming into this season that things were going to turn around but now that little bit of hope I had has totally vanished. It just keeps getting harder and harder to be a Husker fan.

Yes, Bo had seven years though it was split between two very different conferences. It is quite a style/speed/size difference between the Big Ten and the Big 12. In addition, the recruiting footprint adjusted as we went from playing 4 games a year in either Oklahoma or Texas to playing in Indiana, Illinois, etc. That shift was remarkably different and to Bo's credit, his staff still made the conference title game three out of his seven years. Would you consider that Perlman or Eichorst were supportive of Bo Pelini or were they just tolerant? I will strongly disagree with the bolded above. Perlman and Eichorst were self-serving and ego-driven. They did not "make the right call" in any sense. I cannot point to anything specific that Eichorst did that was a positive for our athletic department. Perlman should only get credit for bringing back Tom Osborne as AD to fire Callahan and bring in Pelini. Tom negotiated us into the Big Ten during the turmoil, Perlman was along for the ride. Perlman has been the key cog in the downfall of our athletic department the past 20 years as @TheSker pointed out. His ego and the desire to not let Tom Osborne be the face of the University any longer had a directly negative impact on the entire program. Remember, Perlman went to hire Eichorst without any input from the soon to be retiring Osborne. TO was so pissed about it that he didn't even attend the press conference welcoming Eichorst. Pelini mentioned something about that in the first interview, I believe with Sip in the LJS, where he questioned why Tom hadn't been included in any discussions. It was essentially Bo & Tom vs. Harvey & Shawn and it was doomed from the start.

And guess what. FEMA is getting involved so they are taken care of. The goal is to be placed with family or sponsors. In other words, something is being done so they don’t stay there.

My post had nothing to do with the possible game cancellation. That was something Moos and Frost we're obviously considering. Thank God you made a phone call that changed all that .....and by the way, I'm not always looking for who to place "blame" on for everything. Solutions and resolutions seem better to me.

The guy had 24 tackles in junior college his sophomore year. Realistically it was an absolute reach that we shouldn’t have taken.

Niko was buried on the depth chart. A physical specimen but not sure he would ever contribute aside from special teams.

Held has some great Juco connections. However, when they get here the recruits get a reality check. Here's to hoping Manning can be all we expected him to be or heck even half of what we expected. Because most Juco offensive players have done nothing outside of Mills- who already had D1 playing experience. The reason you take JuCos are 1 You need to add depth and a ready to go mature player can slide in and give you depth or play right away. 2 No one at the position is ready to go so you are bringing in a player just as good or better than you have. The downside to doing this is that you take away reps/development from younger players. At this level, you cannot "gamble" anymore with Jucos. If you do, it takes up a roster spot and they end up leaving anyway. I would much rather we look to the transfer portal because those guys have already played D1 football and know what it takes. Grad transfers are also locked in for only one year and if it is a regular transfer they get to sit and learn the playbook. Some Juco's may have three years but again if you gamble on these guys there goes two years of development or so for other players. I do not mind taking the right Jucos as they can be so hard to predict. I am just not a fan of the amount of Juco guys we have taken under Frost. I would say 3 is the maximum for any given year and going into this cycle it should be one for each side of the ball.

Niko Cooper was a reach to begin with. His only other P5 offer was Maryland. Given the timing of his departure (during winter conditioning), I'm guessing that he didn't like the grind of being a P5-level player. Apparently there was an incident where he threw a big s#!tfit after an older walk-on called him out for missing practice. Don't think he'll be missed much. Still, recruiting JUCO guys is feeling like a colossal waste of time at this point. And for as much as the staff wants to find guys who are a good 'fit' culturally, they sure seem bad at identifying them as recruits...

Your posting history suggests otherwise. Serious question: wouldn't three years of continuity under Moos and Frost be enough to establish trends and accountability? Per my previous post, this year is a helluva schedule and I don't expect to see the numbers go up, but the effort, execution, and talent should be visible after the three season learning experience. I'm always excited to see who steps up. We could argue the down cycle is closer to 20 years long at this point, and the bar for Frost and Moos is far lower than it has been for any coach or AD of the last 60 years. But don't try to cancel the 50th anniversary of the Game of the Century because you're worried about your coaches and players being too emotionally fragile, then try to blame it on economics. At this point the fans are keenly aware of the odds against the Huskers, because they're now uhm.....used to it. The palpable fear of failure is generally the worst look possible for a team wanting out of a down cycle. Tempting as it might be, you don't even entertain the notion of dodging Oklahoma, much less let it leak out to the public and players. You buck up and play the game. And if you're as good as last year's 4-6 Kansas State team, you beat them in Norman.

Speaking for myself and I think a lot of skeptics, I am always willing to judge progress by the product on the field. If I see young players emerging, scrappy team effort in every game, a couple games we could have won but didn't, and and least one legitimate upset where coaches and players all had their ears pinned back and a well-scouted strategy, then I'm still all-in on Scott Frost moving forward. A Bethune-Cookman kind of win means less than nothing to me, and the bars, restaurants and hotels of Lincoln, Nebraska will lose money when the fanbase loses its pride, and that's the slippery slope we're on.

Purdue is not good, so NU winning 3 of 4 was the worst it should have done last week. Iowa and Ohio State have been decent in recent years, but I have no idea if they are good competition in the conference. It's hard to tell how really good NU is, because they are only playing a Big Ten schedule. However, the team looks different athletically and skill-wise this year. IMO, there are just better players on the roster now. Nothing against Mojo Hagge, but that guy started for 3 years as a walk-on, and I don't think he's seen the field this year. That's how Bolt has been able to over-recruit the roster he inherited. There are freshmen and juco transfers starting, and those guys weren't on the roster last year. The pitching is also different with more power pitching, and Jeff Christy seems to do a good job as the pitching coach. My recommendation is to give the team a few more weeks before any judgement can be made, but it could be a fun season to follow the baseballers.

Moos' first mistake was allowing Frost to bring on all his cronies. and sad Frost is not making real changes, especially on special teams and O line.

I hope the players are upset about a potential ducking of an elite opponent and come out ready to play hard and compete. I certainly don’t want this to turn into “the fans are pissed at our coach/program” and go ‘us against the world’ BS Like we’ve seen before. I’m upset at the possibility they tried to back out but I’m still all in for the team, program, coaches and fans.

Your post, and others, now has me wondering this as well. Do the powers that be foresee another 4-5 win season at best and are desperate to save jobs by adjusting the schedule. If that is truly the case, then this will be the last year of Frost and Moos. I see the D being much improved, but see the O stagnant or following the 3 year trend and being worse than last year....And that is unbelievable. Just too many unknowns and no real proven skill guys. TONS of potential, but nothing proven. Regardless of the reasoning, not a good look. Especially after laying an egg in 2020 and getting mocked by the B1G. Especially after losing some of those games.....

To that point, other than history, why would Nebraska play Oklahoma this year? There's a fair argument to be made that, mid-late 90s when we were steamrolling everyone and Oklahoma was terrible, they were more than willing to duck us and not demand a protected crossover. Such a game is easy to build into the schedule. They definitely chose not to, and we didn't want that. This is not to say Nebraska trying to back out of this year's game is anything other than terrible. But let's not pretend that Oklahoma didn't do something similar 25 years ago.

I feel the exact same way. It always seemed like Moos "got it" when it came to NU, which makes this so unbelievably crushing. This is something I would've expected from Eichorst. I kept holding out that this was a bogus story, part of a broader B1G directive, or a Covid related Plan B... or something. It just sounded so absurd that I felt it couldn't possibly have been true without some broader reason or extenuating circumstance. Never in a million years would I have expected this from our Athletic Department. I would never have expected them to be so monstrously cowardly or tone deaf. I just can't believe that this is where we are right now. Ultimately it's my own fault for allowing myself to become childishly attached to a collegiate program. This is supposed to be the fun part of life, but this hasn't been fun for a very long time. To quote Tony Soprano, "It's good to be in something from the ground floor. I came too late for that, I know. But lately, I'm getting the feeling that I came in at the end. The best is over."

Even in our worst years, we never tried to back out of a game with Oklahoma...or anyone for that matter.

I think the leaker may have been from OU. Then they could put out their statement of "we intend to play" and fully box Nebraska in to a corner. I think it was well played.

In situations like this, there's usually an echo chamber at play. The folks inside the Athletic Department assume Husker fans will breathe a sigh of relief when they take Oklahoma off that brutal schedule and get us an early W to take some of the pressure off Scott Frost. Maybe they considered how the national sports press might run with it. Maybe they did not. They're just trying to help the program win. But they honestly didn't know what a bad look this is for Nebraska football until it leaked out and fans went in the exact opposite direction. This is about pride, and they read the room totally wrong. The AD is actually lucky this got leaked. Had they secured a new opponent and made the official announcement, it would have been much uglier. Maybe the leaker has an axe to grind against NU. Maybe the leaker was a true Nebraska fan. The fact that both could make the same case is kinda telling. As expected, the official explanation was panic-induced bulls#!t, but it did stop the bleeding. It's hard to believe the swapping maneuver would be done without the knowledge and approval of Scott Frost, and that's the hardest pill to swallow.

To the bolded: this is a really bad take. It is true that OU fell on hard times. It is also true that when the Big 12 was formed they didn't have to play us every year. However, they didn't vote the way they did to duck us. They did it so that they would play Texas every year. The same Texas where a lot of their talent comes from. Other than the history, what exactly did they have to gain by playing Nebraska every year? Absolutely nothing. When was the last time OU recruited a Nebraska high school player? Nebraska did themselves zero favors with regards to recruiting when they left the Big 12. We should be trying to schedule Texas and A&M annually. Back to the topic at hand. This is probably the lowest we have fallen in my lifetime. At first, I didn't really think much about the transfers of some of our better players. Now, I'm beginning to wonder if there aren't a lot more problems within the program than I originally thought. I know I've asked this before, but how many top notch coaches suffered through as many miserable seasons as Frost has before turning the corner into an elite program? Has there ever been any?

We look great on paper every year according to the rankings. We just recruit a bunch of flakes or the program is so poorly run they leave. We should stop taking junior college players. Literal waste of time for this staff.

Yes you absolutely can complain about both. Getting destroyed on national TV is 8/10 on the annoying scale. Being a f#&%ing wimp and cancelling is a 10/10. I can accept a blow out. I never imagined we’d just forfeit the opportunity. It’s fine to complain about both.

This is so wrong. You're not teaching virology are you? First, masks need to be worn properly to maximize effectiveness. They need to be sealed off as much as possible. Operator error seems to be the biggest issue. This nonsense that masks aren't effective is so tiring it's not even worth linking all the data yet again. Obviously nobody reads that but instead listens to what their Facebook bros say. Can you seal off a face shield? Secondly, the most effective masks (i.e. N95) are so due to the static electrical charge of the material traps virus particles. Polypropylene masks can do the same. So if you can't get N95 look into the polypro masks. Layered is even better. A face shield is only to be used to add protection not be a stand alone. They can catch any airborne virus particles.
