  1. This is just my thoughts but what more does Trev need to see? NU is in the weakest division in P5 football. Wisconsin is horrible and only getting worse. Minny had their year and since then have been back to ,500 ball and they will be worse next year. NW is bad. Purdue is bad. Illinois is horrible. Iowa is "the class" of the division this year and they are only favored by 4 at MD this weekend, think about that. This division is ready for NU to do anything at all. A competent coach wins this division 75% of the time. I don't even know if winning 4 more matters. NU should not be struggling to make a bowl game.

  2. Right after the game winning FG by Sparty, my 11 year old got off the couch and headed to bed. I could tell he was upset, and when he turned around, it was everything he could do to not burst into tears. He said "Dad this sucks, why do we always lose like this?" I told him "Buddy, the things we love the most, also hurt us the most." He said "yeah, you're probably right." Why am I sharing this? I really don't know... But we're flying up for the Northwestern game this weekend, and my 8 year old gets to go to his first game, and my 11 y/o gets to go to his 2nd (1st was Iowa in 2015... yeah....) and they could not be more excited. Please football gods.... let us win.

  3. We just forget to send a punter out and nobody notices. They hike the ball to no one, defense picks the ball up and walks in for a TD.

  5. It’s not negative crap. It’s data that shows we have some serious issues and have for 4 years. We are 5-15 in games closer than one score. Have yet to win an OT game under Frost. Taking emotions and “cherry picking” there is nothing 4 years of data that shows we can make those few plays to be ranked. And that’s concerning. We have 20 games by one score or less and have one 25%. Even if we were average, we’d have won 5 more......It is the “little” things, but in year 4 we are still missing the little things ie punting to the wrong guy......Honestly, how does that happen. How do we not do the basics of running towards where the ball is vs where it should be. Holding your lane. That’s JR High stuff....and we still can’t get it right.

  8. In Frosts defense- Riley took over teams that consistently won 9-10 games. The situation Coach Frost took over from Smilin Mike "Retirement Fund Scammer" Riley was much different than what Smilin Mike took over from Bo.

  10. I think what sticks out is that Chinander is doing what some of the other good coaches in the B1G (Ferentz, Fitzgerald, etc.) are doing: He's doing more with less. That's not a knock on the talent level of our guys at all. It's an indication that he has a clear vision of how to succeed, he knows how to get his position coaches on the same page to put it all together, and he's motivating his side of the ball to put in max effort. Really impressive.

  11. They took him out of the game for one series and took him to have xrays done. He was cleared to play and played the rest of the game. I would think that if something major was wrong, it would have been caught then and he wouldn't have played the rest of the game.

  12. The net is- the things that are wrong- are structural issues that have been consistently bad over the course of 4 years. They aren't the type of thing that usually get's fixed with a few tweaks. I'm a fan, go to the games, I'm looking for a reason to be hopeful. The maybe if we do this, maybe if we do that- just need more time, need to shore up this position group etc and we're ok- I've gone through all that to get some hope about my beloved Huskers. Yes, we've been close to winning all these games- but that's been the case for FOUR YEARS. Same issues every season with the exception of the defense. The Special Teams, Red Zone scoring, offensive line, penalties, poor clock management and poor play calling in the crunch- I'm not sure we get solved. Frost is 1-13 when faced with the chance for the offense to win or tie the game on the last drive of the game. His clock management and game management make him look like someone that just isn't good in the clutch- when heady play and calmness prevail. You wouldn't think someone with his background would be that way- but he is unfortunately. How does anyone explain that away? Until this season we have been way upside down with turnovers also. The mindset that we are going to win with offense and the no fear of failure thing that breeds sloppy play just isn't going to work in the BIG. I'm not calling for Frost to be fired- but I'm not confident at all he will turn things around. It's a longshot and I hope he's able to somehow go 6-6 and survive. BUT long term to be successful- Frost would have to have a real change of heart and be open to a lot of change- and he hasn't shown that he's that type of guy.

  13. Can we stop saying it's his 4th year. I know technically it is however, look at what has happened in those 4 years and what he inherited. So he is hired by nebraska (after only 2 years as a head coach) on dec 2, 2017. The 1st early signing period comenced just 18 days later dec 20, 2017. Then less then a year later, Oct 2018, the transfer portal was inacted. Then you have everyrhing with covid in 2020. And the start of the nil rule in 2021. So he has had to deal with some of the largest systematic changes in college athletics in resent history. While learning how to be a head coach, and adjusting to a new conference. All of that on top of inhereting a program that has been bad for a while. That is not exciting recruits. A team that when chinader showed up he was the third DC in as many years. Where the previous coach had a completly different offense, did not make the players lift, and had very little connection to the region. So YES.... Frost has failed a lot and can't seem to get some things figured out. And YES it is the 4th year he has been here. But he has had to deal with a ton of crap in those 4 years and has managed to produce a time that is competing well. If he makes so changes and keeps learning i THINK he could get there.

  15. Inspired by the play that lost the game at Mich. St., Nebraska tries the 2 returner thing... opposing team kicks the ball right between thr two returners, neither calls for the ball and they run into and injure each other as the punt comes down squarely on one returners nuts and rolls into the open field. Muffed punt then taken in for a td by opposing team.

  16. That's awesome Saunders. Your kids are going to love it seeing a night game in Memorial stadium. I'll never forget being just as upset after the failed 2 pt conversion against Miami in the 84 Orange Bowl. "This is for the national championship" I can remember Don Criqui saying. After the pass from Turner Gill bounced off of Jeff Smith's shoulder I remember I just got up and said nothing and just walked straight to my bedroom. I was so upset that I actually didn't even cry. I remember not saying a thing after as I couldn't even muster up words. It's been 11 years since I've been back to see a game in Memorial stadium. I don't care that we've lost our last 2 games or the way the season has gone so far. I'm still pumped for Saturday too.

  22. It is still a power rushing base that Frost has currently and wants. And it is still a power rushing formation even out of the spread. It was a power scheme under Bo even though we lined up in the "shotgun spread." When the QB is under center and takes 2-ish steps backwards and then hands the ball off to the RB, it takes the same amount of time for the RB to get to the line of scrimmage as when the QB is in the shotgun and then immediately hands off the ball from the snap. We are running double tight ends a ton. In my estimation it is a power offense and it is balanced - it's just that the run blocking has been so poor that Frost isn't going back to RB handoffs 25 times per game. He can't, because they aren't working without execution on blocking - especially from our guards.

  23. I agree here with everything you said. I am beginning to wonder after seeing that specific clip, if AM’s main problem is he doesn’t pre-read coverage very well and therefor doesn’t know who is going to be the first read on the passing play. That play, it’s clear it’s man /free over coverage , (motion and defensive alignment are the cues). AM should only be looking at the backer on the snap to verify the coverage and the blitz. If he comes, the crossing route is hit immediately for a decent gain. That was a great play call by Frost knowing they would blitz, other receivers are clearing out for Allen and AM’s eyes saw the rush instead instead of Allen breaking free over the right guard.

  26. I’d also add (Milton and Mariota) being able to read the field better and hit receivers where they can make the catch and even gain some yards after catch is huge. I understand the individual plays are more complex, but IMHO Hitting 1 or 2 of those wr’s running open would’ve changed the game.

  27. We attempt a fake field goal. Instead of winding up for the kick, Culp makes a dash for the outside edge while the holder flips the ball behind his head to him. But guess what?!? Piper gets bulldozed and a defender shoots up the middle, snags the ball out of the air, and takes it to the house. Coach Dawson does not realize the wrong team scored until the conclusion of their fight song.

  32. Chins will be the only one gone... to a head coaching job at South Florida or FIU. Nebraska wins 5 of their last 7 to save the rest of the staff. A special teams coach is added. 2022 Nebraska goes 9-3 and is well on the way to recovery. Pretty damn unlikely but I'm still holding on.

  35. From 2020: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/18/us/politics/senate-intelligence-russian-interference-report.html Though there was no evidence of any agreement between the Russians and the Trump campaign to work together, there was clear coordination, said Senator Angus King, a Maine independent who caucuses with the Democrats and is a member of the Intelligence Committee. “The Russians were doing things to disrupt American democracy and help the Trump campaign and the Trump campaign was doing things to amplify and utilize what the Russians were supplying,” Mr. King said in an interview. “There may not have been an explicit agreement but they were both consciously pursing the same end, which was the election of Donald Trump. And for the Russians, the extra benefit was disrupting American democracy.” But sure, let's pretend Hunter's laptop (But her emails/Benghazi/etc) is more important than this.

  36. The worst thing about the trick play is it really looks like we were ready for it. I think Farmer misjudged the receiver's speed waited a split second too long to turn with him, and then the downside of looking back for the ball is exactly what happened - feet get tangled up and he goes down. I think he was beat bad enough that it wouldn't have mattered, but if he kept his footing and had his eyes on the receiver, he might have been able to at least rake his hands and maybe get a lucky breakup. DB is such a lose-lose situation though - you look for the ball and miss it or trip and people are mad you looked back. You don't look for the ball, the receiver adjusts around you, and people are mad you didn't look back. And I have no idea what his technique was supposed to be on this play, they are taught to play the ball or play the man in different scenarios.

  37. No doubt our Oline isn't giving AM much help. However it's on AM to get rid of the ball quickly when he sees an open receiver. In this clip Austin Allen a 6'9" target is in his line of sight- wide open on a crossing route and AM does not throw- takes a sack instead. The pocket isn't going to be clean for 5 seconds AM- There are too many of these and yes as always we LOVE AM- great kid, works hard- gives us best chance to win etc etc

  39. So how many times does it need said? How many threads need to be started to highlight the same thing? This is negative crap because it is repeating the same stuff, over and over. All of us get it. All of us know the problems. Some of us choose to see the positives, some choose the negatives, and the vast majority see both. There are reasons to be excited. There are reasons to be upset. Highlighting data from the first few weeks of the season, that are exaggerated due to vast differences is schedule strength, does nothing but attempt to make things look worse than they are. There is no need. We are bad in the red zone but, like the past few years, we won't be nearly as bad as your week 4 data paints them.
