  1. Any HB members subscribe to The Athletic?  If so, what are your thoughts?  Thinking about pulling the trigger next time they run a big sign up sale.

I love it, and if you're into fantasy football and baseball it's a must have.

    3. Enhance

      Enhance

A buddy of mine lent me his credentials a couple of months ago. After checking it out for a few weeks, I haven't used his subscription since. I don't seek out content for professional teams or national sporting news very often, and when I do, it's mostly from other outlets (i.e. the Trib or something like that). I don't fault The Athletic for this though - it's just not really worth the cost to me personally.

Mitch Sherman is OK, but his quantity/quality of content isn't enough to have a subscription just because of him, IMHO. I also think there are a few better local reporters who have better connections. He's more of a salad to the main dish.

I think I am at the point now where I would never pay for anything online every again that isn't something from Amazon or a store or Netflix.  Shoot I got Youtube Red and then realized the s#!t I wanted to watch was free on "another site"

  2. For anyone looking for Husker gear, Homefield Apparel is dropping Nebraska stuff tomorrow.  Their stuff is incredibly comfortable and well made.  They have a tendency to drop some really cool items so I'm sure it'll be a big hit.

I dig all the stuff, my only minor nitpick would be getting this crewneck sweatshirt in hoodie form:

I love that version of Herbie.

  4. CU looking close to hiring Karl Dorral as the next HC.  You might remember Karl from a completely forgettable stretch as head coach for UCLA in the mid 2000s.

    3. ColoradoHusk

      ColoradoHusk

Local radio is making a fair point that Dorrell is the type of coach who would probably stick around CU, if he has any type of success.  CU can't risk another coach using the program as a stepping-stone job, so they have to settle for a coach who may not be very good in the first place.

    4. Xmas32

      Xmas32

That's a reasonable point for sure.  Man that just speaks to how bad it is at Boulder.  "We gotta hire a coach that wants to win, but not win enough to actually leave for another job."  Yuck.  Of course the fact that CU has beaten NU the last two times really makes it stink.

  5. After watching this last season of Last Chance U I'm absolutely floored something like this happened...

After watching the first couple episodes of the INDY Last Chance U made me feel this coach wasnt fit to be around young men.  This quote is not surprising at all, and the way he treats players is unacceptable.  Add on the fact he was extremely unorganized and had a limited knowledge of football and this guy's incompetence was quite impressive.

Just seeing this, @Xmas32 and @funhusker, but I don't believe so; I just heard NebrasketballMike call into Sharp and Benning earlier this week.

    3. funhusker

      funhusker

@Cdog923 thanks for the news.  Not that one death is better than the other, but I just always appreciate the calls from NebrasketballMike.  Even if its about something negative, he always seems to phrase things in a respectful way.

It seems like the hosts really appreciate him too.  I remember one time his call got cut off short and there was "cussing" or something as the call was disconnected.  It did sound a bit off.  The USC hosts were beside themselves.  They were begging for folks that knew Mike to check on him and let them know if he was okay.  They were wrecks for like a half hour.  It ended up being something really silly like Mike's cat jumping on his desk and hanging up the phone and unplugging cords.

  7. Big day in the Xmas household for sports.  Tottenham plays in the Champs League final at 2p, Skers at 7p against Okie Lite.  A sweep would be oh so delicious.

Ugh, yup pretty awful all the way around.  That Champs League final was frankly...a pretty bad match.  So disjointed.  The early penalty (which was harsh) really threw a wrench into the flow of the match.  Credit to Liverpool, they were the ones doing the mucking and outside of a free kick and maybe one other chance, completely locked Spurs down.

    3. Street Novelist

      Street Novelist

Yeah, it was probably the worst Champions League final in the last decade.

    4. Street Novelist

      Street Novelist

The worst part of it, for a Tottenham fan, is they are probably going to lose Eriksen along with a couple other players. I would hate to see that happen.

Not quite sure, if I had to guess, probably until 4th of July or maybe a day or two after?  I found the 50% off link on June 28th on Adam Hansmann's (who appears to be the co-founder of The Athletic) Twitter.  They always seem to have a 30% off promo floating around but I guessed they would run a 50% off promo over the 4th of July and thankfully, I guessed correctly.  Hard to beat $2.50/mo.

I really enjoyed the 1980s CFB articles, talk about the wild west!  Plus the article about Little Big League was great because I absolutely love that movie.

@Undone the long baseball season is definitely a factor in why the sport is very regionalized until the playoffs.

      Toe

I was just mentioning this in another thread. If the P5 breaks away to form a new top tier of CFB, there needs to be some some sort of promotion/demotion system like this.

So happy for him! It was long overdue for one of the best hitters in baseball. Such an iconic moment. I was in the leftcenter nosebleeds for game Game 3 and 5, my dad saw Junior round second and started yelling, “He’s gonna score! He’s gonna score!” Gives me chills at this very moment

Oh man that would've been incredible. I lived in Seattle as a kid for a couple years in '91 and '92 so I just missed the run.  I saw a ton of Ms games in 1992 mostly because the Ms were awful that year and tickets were incredibly cheap.  Man the Kingdome was such a dive but damn that place was a launching pad.

Who has that Nebraska Lockdown U shirt from a few years ago?  It was dope but I think only players had it made for themselves?  Message me if you have one for sale.  Also anyone have any good 3NOut apparel?  Seems pretty slim on what I see out there these days.

  15. So I just found out about this Runza secret menu and my mind is just blown.  I can't believe I was too dumb not to ever order or ask about chili cheese fries.  I shall be correcting this over the weekend.

  16. I tell you what...a 30 for 30 on the '95 Huskers if it dropped this fall would sure go a long way to soothing some pain on a missed season.  Actually, having HCSF and TO breaking down some of the big games of the 90s over Zoom would be pretty darn cool.  Hat tip to the guy who I saw recommend this on Mitch Sherman's Athletic mailbag.

    1. Cdog923

      Cdog923

No it wouldn't; it'd be a hatchet job and would focus on LP, Christian Peter and Riley Washington's gun.

There's a good reason why a number of people incredibly important to telling that story refused to be interviewed.

Knowing ESPN, they'd gloss over the 90's in 5 minutes and spend the rest of the hour talking about the last 20 years. At least that's the show Des and Wilbon would pitch.
