  1. Scott Frost is the only coach for Nebraska. We were lucky that last year's hottest coach in college football has deep Nebraska ties, because that's the only way we land the hottest coach in college football. It wasn't a homer move: Scott checks off every box. He brought in his people and his quarterback and hit the ground running. We had every right to expect immediate improvement because that's what new coaches do. It doesn't always show up in the record, but it usually shows up in attitude and fundamentals. The season is far from over, but we have every right to be concerned about the three game sample. That Akron game might not have turned out like we planned, either. The reason Scott Frost is the only coach for Nebraska is that had we hired anyone else, or kept our last coach, we would firmly believe that this team would never be 0-3 and rudderless if Scott Frost was running the show. He's still the only man for the job and I look forward to what he'll do in the next few years. But if we think we can't question the coaching when an entire team fails to show up, or perform basic football tasks they learned in high school, it's not really helping. If you see this team struggling and all you can do is blame Mike Riley, you're insulting the players, which is no better than blaming Frost. There's clearly a talent gap, but that's where the coaching comes in. Yesterday Army gave Oklahoma everything it could handle. Old Dominion beat Virginia Tech by two touchdowns behind its second-string quarterback coming off the bench. There's no reason this Nebraska team can't be in the same league as Army and Old Dominion, and I can't believe I just typed that. We have to be patient. At the same time we have to demand better. That's part of the deal. Not gonna be easy but there we are.

  2. Bah...all this 5 star recruit crap is getting tiring. You know the difference between your typical 5 star recruit and a tub of sh*t? The tub. I'd put my team of no star recruits out against your top 20 class and not be one bit surprised to kick you all over the field...simply because my scrubs are so the ones that WANT to play football and have to work harder than the "talented recruits" to get to keep playing football. Yeah, Nebraska sucks so far and this year and Frost hasn't been the Be All End All for the team so far. But it's hard to be a good team when you feel entitled to your playing time and have bought into the media hype about how good you are. The onus is on the players here.

  3. You want to know how you fight in every game? The mindset you need going into every game? Like the third monkey!

  4. BTW, hasn't this subject been covered hereabouts before....about 100 times I'm tired of talking about the past. Frost is the answer, and if he's not, there is no answer.

  5. Considering that would be a drastic improvement over where we are currently, I don't think it is as ludicrous as you want to treat it. But if you want to be obtuse and ignore the tenor of the post, go right ahead

  6. I don't think he said that all but okay....

  7. It is actually amazing....it only took 3 years for Riley to take us from a consistent 9 win team to absolute trash with a complete lack of any type of winning culture. People can say Riley took over a toxic situation....no he didnt. Those players still fought and wanted to win some damn games. Frost is taking over a team that gets soft served ice cream after a loss.

  8. I think we all need to kind of just cheer for the team and staff this year and pray that it gets better by years end. I was drinking the kool aid etc with several of you during the Summer but we simply are a bad football team. We are not talented and have had little to no development in our players for 3 years. It is amazing how blinded I was by thinking Frost would come in and magically improve the results year one. We are a BAD team that is going to take some time to get it right unfortunately.

  9. I wouldn't get my hopes up too much. I haven't seen anything from this team that tells me they are capable of beating even mediocre opposition. I wonder, as a fanbase, when we will stop expecting wins just because we show up and play? We've lost 7 straight and are 1-9 over the last 10 games. I never thought in my worst nightmares that I would see us sink this low as a program.

  10. only thing i wish would have been different is if we had just hired frost instead of riley. riley was the worst hire by far. callahan and bo were actually good hires at the time. just didn't work out, but definitely weren't bad hires. but riley just flat out didn't deserve this job.

  11. A big part of UCF's 13-0 season in my opinion was McKenzie Milton. And Frost & Verduzco get all of the credit for not only bringing him in but developing his talent. He finished 8th in the Heisman voting last year. I think Adrian Martinez is that guy and that's one of the big reasons I'm preemptively excited about where our program is heading. Add Maurice Washington to that list, too.

  12. Or we could have just hired Bob Stoops instead of TO taking it into his own hands and announcing publicly that Solich was his replacement....

  13. I think they need to play the young guys a lot. What's the point in trying to improve underperforming seniors that won't be here next year? Get guys like wilson, hixson and miller playing time if they're the next ones in line. Are they ready? Nope, but are foster, conrad and farmer ready to play? Doesn't look like it. Start building for the future.

  14. Here's the clip @huskerfan74 is referring to. It's right after Bunch lead us to a TD. Pretty sad that you can't be happy for the kid and would rather paint him as something he's not.

  15. Just think about it man Two players kind of barely smiling for 5 seconds turns into an assessment where the 'player sideline demeanor was disappointing' Yeah but how does the NCAA make it legal for players to be happy when us fans are miserable? That's not fair!

  16. Yeah, I've changed my tune based on what I have seen, so f'ing what? That's what people who think one way, get proved wrong, and reassess the situation do. I'm not here to question anyone's fandom, but you're starting to come across more as gloater who is relishing these losses. Makes me think that maybe your motives aren't in seeing the team get better.

  17. I knew this thread was coming eventually as soon as I saw Adrian and Andrew slightly smiling on the sideline in the fourth quarter. Really hurts man. They have no business smiling while playing the game they love. So disappointing to see smiling faces like that.

  18. the quarterbacks, both of them, about died out there today because our lineman look like they play with blindfolds on. Qbs are way down the list for me.

  19. In terms of Gebbia transferring, I think he just wanted to go play on a team with a better offensive line.

  20. He cleans house and keeps doing things his way. If we look like this years 3 and 4 we can talk about scheme changes. Until then you’re just being unfair.

  21. Yep it will happen. I have full (mostly) confidence Nebraska will go into Memorial Stadium and pull off the goal of playing in a football game. Adrian Martinez will be healthy and will play, giving the offense it's dual threat, plus Purdue won't have much film on Martinez and Nebraska's offense due to our backups playing so much against Michigan. It's a 2:30p kickoff and it's at home meaning I am sure that Purdue won't have that much of a home field advantage. I think Nebraska has a week in which they practice, and guys get after it and challenge each other, meaning come game time they will be ready to play in a football game.

  23. I realize that we got our doors blown off yesterday, but we are not nearly as bad as the score indicates. I’m not saying we’re good, but we’re not winless until Bethune-Cookman bad either. Peaks are never as high as they seem and valleys are never as low as they seem. We win vs. Purdue.

  24. How many times does a team full of 4 and 5 star guys need to kick Nebraska's teeth in for some fans to realize that recruiting 4 and 5 stars matters? Yes texas has struggled but that doesn't disprove every other team that recruits well and regularly ends up in the top 10. Nebraska had a number of players mail it in yesterday but they were out gunned as well. There was a play in the second half were Michigan linebacker i think he was #10 took a bad angle on oz and still caught him behind the los. Michigan's linebackers were faster than Nebraska's skill position guys. That matters.

  25. It’s going to take time to fix this. The team quitting when things got tough isn’t just a Riley thing. It’s been happening for far too long, and it has become the mentality of Nebraska football.

  26. Until all the players on the field are willing to sell-out on every play, every week, no matter the score or consequences, then no amount of S&C, nutrition, scheme, recruiting stars, or talk from the players or coaches is going to translate into wins.

  28. What it actually shows is UCF had existing talent on the roster. Frost is NOT going to throw his players under the bus.....no matter what. And Frost can't simply "give players the boot". He turned the roster over about as much as one can in the off season.

  29. Again, just so I know what is or isn't acceptable, we're cool with using the same defenses with Frost that we used in Riley's first year?

  30. Repost here, accidentally replied under wrong post earlier. Found this on an article earlier. "Frost went undefeated at UCF last season, and the reason why his success has yet to translate to Nebraska is simple – he has a roster of inferior talent recruited for a completely different system. " Another good example of how long it can take to change a losers mentality is Texas, they are only now beginning to turn it around, beating TCU for the first time after losing four straight. We need to have patience, let Frost get HIS players here and see what the results are.

  31. The bolded is wrong. Suh was elite talent. He should have won the Hypseman. He's one of the highest ever paid defensive players in the NFL. You can't tell me that teams weren't scared to face that 09' defense.

  32. Nebraska doesn't have a choice. Michigan was ranked and heavily favored. Of course you play like an underdog. Ears pinned back and going for broke. No idea why you perceive that as a bad thing. How the other team approaches wounded underdogs is up to them. Coaches generally guard against over-confidence.

  33. Walk on QB. 30 days ago, he was a 3rd string nobody who was happy to be getting a shot at "being one of the guys" at a major, D1 program. Fast forward, he leads a TD drive in the Big House. ------------------------------------ Frost's initial observation when he got here: "These kids aren't having fun playing football anymore." Now they're having fun. They're not getting the results we all want, but they're enjoying playing football again. I'd say the fact that Bunch and Martinez are smiling and talking the way they are is proof that what Scott is doing is working. And we're questioning demeanor.

  35. It's time to stop trying to find a panacea or place blame on someone or something. They aren't good. Bear Bryant could coach this group and it would be a similar result. Day by day. It's in the prayer and all over their shirts this year. The most frustrating thing is the team seems to be looking left and right for a fix when it is within them to fix it. Let's beat Purdue for our biggest win since Michigan State. May seem silly but that's what it is. One step at a time. GBR.

  36. I like that there is camaraderie between two guys who have been competing with each other since spring and have both had the crap kicked out of them. If anyone needs to keep positive attitudes in order to survive, it’s the QBs.

  37. You don't think they were concerned? Holy crap two guys smiled in the second half. You literally have ZERO idea what was said or what was being discussed. Did you watch the Martinez post game video? People are allowed to smile and react differently to any situation. Our loss was comical yesterday, we ARE that bad.

  38. We have gotten dangerously close to turning into Minnesota
    2 points
  39. To win a NC, probably correct. To be competitive in games against teams in the top 25, I disagree. Frankly I didn't watch the game today because I knew it would be a blowout and the team would give up. The Troy game combined with recent years behavior gave enough hints this was coming. I watched the complete Maryland vs. Minnesota game even though it was obvious within the first couple of series that Maryland was more talented then Minnesota. What made it a great game to watch was even though Minnesota was obviously outclassed the gophers kept rowing the boat and never gave up. Point is, we have enough talent to beat Troy and should have been competitive against Michigan. It doesn't matter how good of coaches you have, the players have to want it.

  40. Sigh...is it possible that some people deal with disappoinment with humor? Hell maybe they were talking about how much this sucked and then something was said in the stands that made them chuckle. Those two players didn't look like they gave up on the field.

  44. I don't pretend to be well versed enough to know who is and isn't "buying in" or performing up to their potential. But I imagine to a more trained eye it might be clear who is sucking up the place. I'd really enjoy seeing half a dozen new starters next week. I want Frost and staff to primarily focus on establishing the culture this year, first and foremost.

  45. Here’s pretty much my thought on guys that are willing to leave the team because frost is head coach and Riley isn’t.... f#&% EM.
