  1. The helmet looks like one that an infant wears when it's skull is soft and not completely formed. Which is perfect for this team.

  3. I'm probably as shocked as anybody with the winless streak that is starting the Scott Frost era. However, looking at things from a development standpoint, I do see this team getting better. The operative word, however, is TEAM. Even if we only consider the team on the field for a single play, it only takes one player's lapse of discipline to derail what might have been a great play (offensively or defensively) into a negative one for the team. And it only takes one backwards play to throw cold water on series. When it comes to defense, I'm pretty sure that I have seen more three & outs as the season has progressed. (Unfortunately, if they go for it on 4th down, you have to stop them there too.) Similarly, an offense needs to sustain drives. Ideally, an offense is going to grab the lead and the defense is going to preserve it. The defense has been getting a few turnovers in recent games, which is more improvement. To see the team getting better, even as we feared that injuries and lack-of-depth depth would make us more vulnerable as the season wears on, tells me that players are still fighting for these coaches. Yes, we see frustrating mistakes, but I see way more effort and intensity than I did last year. I also think that this season is going to be good for Scott Frost. I think it is going to make the competitive fire burn even hotter in his belly and I think he is learning a lot as he goes through one of the more difficult schedules in the country. Frost & Co. outperformed expectations with their recruiting in Year One (although the jury is still out on more than a few of those players) and they did that while coaching their former squad to an upset win against Auburn. I don't think this snake-bit season will hurt him in recruiting much this year, but time will tell. Opportunities abound for good players wishing to make their mark on this team, with all of the resources that it has to offer. A corner has also clearly been turned on keeping our Nebraska football talent in Nebraska, which is huge. I expect to see our next year's recruiting class address our needs in the trenches and in the defensive backfield in a big way. But we will need to be patient as some of that talent grows up in the weight room and in their mastery of the system and their part in it. There is no "switch" that gets flipped. But the game of football can be a bit of a "teeter-totter" and when an offense gets rolling they can make a rested defense look a lot better (and vice-versa). The biggest concern I have is that "team" is going to be lost from the top down. Frost's post-game answer "#1 I don't call defense" was one of the few times that I think he's let his frustration show and get in the way of "TEAM". There are things that need to be said behind closed doors and there are things that DON'T need to be said in front of cameras, on mic, or on social media. I hope cracks in this "team" are not what the comment indicated. It's just not an answer I would have expected to come from the mouth of Frost's hero Tom Osborne. Bottom line, I would much rather watch this year's squad than the one that looked disinterested in even taking the field at times last year. While I want them to succeed sooner rather than later, it isn't because they are an extension of my fragile ego. I've noticed that, at least so far, the sun still comes up the morning after a Husker loss. I still see a brighter future for Cornhusker football than I have since Osborne retired. #GBR

  4. Why this spread? Because Vegas, unlike some of the supposed Nebraska “fans” in other threads, have seen what most of the sane, rational fan base has witnessed—that there has been progress made, that the team is getting better, and they’re getting close to turning the corner. And lest anyone forget...Vegas is in the business of making money. They have zero f***s to give about the feelings of Nebraska fans. They’re using their own eyeballs and making a judgement call.

  6. I'm not going to bail Chinander out here, because he's had some boneheaded alignments and his blitzes are terrible. But this is not just a Chinander problem, it's an ongoing issue of bad schemes and worse personnel. This dates back to the era after Suh & David. We've played 70 games since Lavonte David's era. In those 70 games, we've held opponents to 17 points or fewer 19 total times. We won all but one of those games. 7 were under Bo 12 were under Riley 0 were under Frost We've given up 30 or more points 31 times. That's 44% of all games over 5 1/2 years. We won six of those games. 17 were under Riley 9 were under Bo 5 were under Frost These problems have persisted for years, under different head coaches. It's likely not just the Jimmy's & Joe's, and it's likely not just the coaching. Some of it likely has to do with stuff like, for fifth-year seniors, Chinander is their fourth defensive coordinator. We need a stable coaching staff, several years of solid recruiting, and guys brought in to match the system we want to run.

  7. True. Another thing that needs to be clear. I usually don't complain about these things. But, the production of the game on Saturday really really really sucked. I'm not talking about the announcers that everyone seems to rag on constantly. I'm talking about the actual production of what we saw on the TV screen. When will producers realize that as the play is about to start, we don't need to see a close up of a player (QB). We need to see the field and how the team is lined up. And...how many times on Saturday did we not even get to see the play at all? I would expect that from some third rate network that's just trying to get into showing college football....but, ABC has been doing this for how long?

  8. I don't get the confusion on the helmet. It's an obvious attempt by the helmet designer to replicate a white leather helmet, which would have been historically correct.

  9. Randy Gregory 1st team Maliek Collins 2nd team Nate Gerry 2nd team These are the only 3 players on defense in the past 5 years that have gotten all-conference honors on defense. How do you have a great defense when you only have 3 players over a 5 year period gaining any all-conference honors?

  10. I've said it before, I'll say it again, I said it before it was cool to say it; Nebraska is the best winless team in the nation.

  11. Well, that's just on your poor ability to recall, because it happens plenty. All y'all seriously entertaining conspiracy theories are nuts, and even if you weren't, we'd be allowing that to happen. We hold all the time. We have false starts way too often. Our DB's rarely look back for the ball. The refs didn't help Colorado's clutch receiver catch that late touchdown. The refs could have thrown a flag on Martinez' injury but it wouldn't have stopped him from being injured. Refs didn't make us miss a crucial PAT and field goal and then botch the snap on 4th and 1 in overtime. They didn't cause Bunch to throw an interception on our last drive against Troy. Didn't cause Jonathan Taylor's 88 yard dagger in the 4th.

  17. The ABC Broadcasters said it, and people on this board have repeated it, but Scott Frost didn't go 0 - 12 his first season at UCF. He inherited an 0 - 12 team and went 6-7 his first season. Carry on.

  19. I mean .... have people really forgotten already that last year's team gave up 50 points in four of their last six games, couldn't force Ohio State to punt once, lost to Iowa by 42 and got beaten by a vaunted Minnesota team by 33. The same Minnesota team that scored 54 points on us but only scored 51 points against THE OTHER FIVE B1G WEST TEAMS THEY PLAYED and got shut out in the two games after playing us?

  20. Yes, there are some newer posters here who didn't know our 'before' life and simply cast us into the 'left of center' side because we don't agree with Trump or his ways. This is the new litmus test of party fellowship. Too many repubs that I know are shocked when I bring up an opposing view. It is disheartening to know that the Repub party was actually trying to broaden its tent before 2016 when Trump came along and narrowed it. The party had a pretty diverse group running in 2016 - different races and also a well qualified business woman. But one thing they lacked - diversity of thought. Those outside of Trump were almost thought clones of one another. This allowed the 'outlier' - Trump - to present a radical nationalistic message that differentiated himself from the rest. He was able to pick off one candidate after another because the 15 others as a group did not come out and attack and kill the philosophy that Trump embraced. Strong words and strong leaders where needed to take down a violent philosophy. None were found. Rubio wimped out and others feared Trump's base. They instead rejoiced as one of their cloned rivals was dismissed by voters wrongly thinking it would make them stronger. By that time the cancer had spread far and ride and the nomination was Trump's and he was stronger than the last 2 standing - Cruz and Kasich. It is possible to agree wt a Trump policy but not care for his leadership on it. A dead clock can be correct 2x a day. Trump may agree with some core conservative policies and actually be correct. If that is the case, I will speak up for the policy but not for him.

  26. I'm going to go back to the point that I have made several times in the reffing thread. I have no problem with Nebraska being called for penalties, even the ticky tack ones, as long as the other team is being held to the same standard. Throughout the season, starting with the Colorado game in which the PAC 10 Ref actually congratulated a Colorado player after a TD, and through the BIG10 slate, the refs have been calling Nebraska for penalties and letting the other team get away repeatedly with the exact same fouls. To me, it's not the penalties Nebraska is getting called for that is so infuriating. It's the calls that aren't called against the other team that shows clear bias. For each of theses categories, Nebraska seems to be held to a higher standard by the refs: Holding (both offensive and defensive), PI, Roughing the passer, and unnecessary roughness, late hits, targeting, and other personal fouls. It is egregious and obvious.

  31. This is pretty silly. We suck because we suck. The idea that there is some crazy conspiracy involving the officials to keep us from competing is pretty crazy. We get penalized a lot because we have too many stupid players, play undisciplined football, and make too many dumb mistakes. We have a long and well-deserved reputation for that now, so it’s easy for other teams to exploit...and the refs know to watch for it.

  33. Becoming a little bit of a broken record here. You've posted this quote from Chins what.....half dozen times? Frost has said the past few weeks that we need to get more quarterback pressure. The quote is Chins philosophy and he's actually trying different things. But there's a risk trade off. Our games have been mostly competitive. We start taking unnecessary risks, the opponent pops off a couple of easy scores, and suddenly the games are not so competitive. And even if Chins started trying "different" things, there's no repetitions or experience doing it. I also had time to listen to the latest DocTalk with Rob. He referenced the UCF Auburn game and offered the thought that when talent and experience come together the scheme works fine. He indicated this Husker defense lacks both.

  34. I think that’s pretty simple. I believe the story is that Warren years ago tried using this to say she was a minority and benefit from it. Stupid and she should be called out for it. She chose to bring it up again now because she is thinking about running in 2020 and she needs to know if she can get past a political attack on this point. The way Trump chooses to do it is immature, idiotic and racist and he should be called out on it. America deserves better.

  35. We suck and we suck bad. But I am not naive enough to think there isn't some chicanery going on and I don't believe this is specific to just Nebraska. That would be ludicrous. However, there is too much money involved in CFB for their not to be a real opportunity for some refs to make extra $$$ and the easiest way would be by not making calls on one side or the other. When there are 64 pass attempts and not a single hold....I'm gonna question that one.

  38. I agree. I had heard things started to take hold at UCF about mid season. So I told myself before the season started I was going to be patient and expect things to flip about mid season. I am at the point now I am not giving excuses anymore. If we lose its on the staff from here on out. I am still 100% all in on Frost. Truly believe he is the guy and will get it turned around. But that doesnt mean I cant blame him and his staff for letting the rest of this year turn to s#!t if indeed it does.

  39. Voice of reason.....+1000 This team has enough offense to hang with a lot of teams. Our special teams out us in position to win. We had them pinned on the 2 for crying out loud. And all year people complaines about special teams. Frost makes an adjustment, benches lightborn, now we look better. He knows what he is doing. Our defense is the only area we havent improved. I was hopeful after the CU game, but we just dont have the playmakers we need. Zero pressure combined with a struggling secondary, equals 98 yd drive to tie the game. Now we address the place kicker and tighten that up. Smh. it is a process.

  40. If you go back and watch the 6-7 UCF team you would have the same criticism of the play calling. Last year however? You would be overjoyed. These guys didn't just forget how to coach upon moving to Nebraska. They have a very limited playbook at the moment with this team. Take a deep breath, enjoy the rest of the season, and come talk to me in a year. I seriously doubt the majority will have a problem with the play calling then.
