I'm hearing that Fred Hoilberg is going to be the new coach. Byran Munson over on Rivals is saying this. I have been a long time poster over on the Old Big Red Report site (now 247) and Munson was there for a long long time. He has really good sources and wouldn't be saying this if he didn't think this was going down. This was posted over on 247 site and most posters there are all in on a change and really like the hire of Hoilberg if it in fact comes to fruition! Tim Miles is a good guy and put together and really good team, that even with the one big injury should have competed far better than they did. Why were these guys playing with the fire the whole season like they have that last 4 games? That's coaching plan and simple. Since Miles has been here it's always this way. For 2-3 games they become world beaters and then can't beat the play ground guys for 8 games. Just my view, I know there are many of you that see it differently!2 points

With that said, and I'm heading to *cough* work *cough* (game store, I'll be playing Dungeons and Dragons while waiting for customers so occasionally I'll have to tend to the register), I'm considering not wearing green today in the hopes that some girls would actually pinch me. But, knowing how few girls actually come to my game store, and this whole anti-invasion of personal space has taken some of the fun out of this holiday, I'll probably be disappointed. But here's to hoping!2 points

Yeah....the statement mood put out was odd. I think it was only put out because someone said there was going to be a statement in 45 minutes. At at that point, he had to say something.2 points

What’s funny/sad is that these are the same damn arguments made 100 years ago (technology aside) by conservatives—only instead of Muslims, African countries, and Middle Eastern refugees, it was the Chinese, Germans, and Jewish religious community. I mean, FFS, an irrational fear of German immigrants by conservatives in the US Government is part of the reason the United States stayed out of WWI as long as we did (the other being the money we were making hand over fist by trading with both sides of the war). In short, history has proven this fear mongering was without merit 100 years ago, and it’s still without merit.2 points

He needs to stick to reporting news was the purpose of my post. I have no issue with an opinion sprinkled in here and there - but he has gone away from reporting news to only writing on his opinion and what he thinks the AD should act and do. Not only are his opinions off base for his audience but often not well thought out.1 point

Someone I met last night told me Hoiberg is already a done deal. Just waiting for miles to get fired to make it official. I may have had a few by this point but I believe he told me $4 mill/yr for 7 years. Take it fwiw.1 point

I voted “pretty excited”. That’s probably overstating it some. But, I would be more excited than “meh”.1 point

It was reported that at one time almost 1500 D1 players had put their name in the transfer portal. There have been countless Greg Bell’s over the years and it hasn’t made a dent.1 point

I agree with everything you said. But I'm not sure about the bolded; what would you call a person that wants Miles retained if not an "apologist"? a·pol·o·gist /əˈpäləjəst/ noun a person who offers an argument in defense of something controversial. "an enthusiastic apologist for fascism in the 1920s"1 point

Third down was awful last year, in particular the first half of the season where we were one of the worst in the nation. Another year in the system for both the offense as a whole, but specifically Martinez, will help tremendously. He tried at times too hard to make plays and that really affected his completion %. 1st down - 69% 2nd down - 66% 3rd down - 53% (0-9 yards - 51%) 4th down - 40% On runs of 3rd and 3 or shorter we converted 27 first downs on 35 rushes (77%). A big issue were teams overloading the box. This is a much bigger problem for shotgun based offenses because the mesh point largely determines what side the run will go. So not only can they bring an extra defender, they can bring one to the correct side. Our best plays therefore became ones that involved the QB. Expect more under center work this year, if for no other reason than to make Adrian comfortable with it for QB sneaks. At both the NCAA and NFL level sneaks are so ludicrously effective that they’re the right call even if expected.1 point

I guess I don't see any issue generally wondering how a certain player is doing. Seems like a fair talking point. Unless OP has a habit of bringing up Jones... kbb always thought Taylor wasn't getting a fair shake, so that was just irritating. I don't think that's the case with Jones (just as I didn't think that was the case with Taylor). As a general rule of thumb, OP, not hearing anything about a specific player likely means they haven't made a noticeable impact yet. Or, they haven't made an impact relative to the standard of other players being talked about. He's a young player and it might take him some more time to develop.1 point

This is like people asking about Mcquitty. Dude is young and has only had a year on campus. Give him some time he still has 4 more seasons of elgibility for us.1 point

I think it's going to be incredibly difficult to justify retaining Miles: - he finished 12th or worse in five of his seven seasons at Nebraska - his record is .500 in those seven seasons - in a clear 'make or break it' year, with essentially his most talented roster at Nebraska, they fell apart The performance evidence is largely against him. If people didn't like Miles as a person, would they be OK with these results? And the upcoming NIT is a very small portion of the overall body of work. Does any result there significantly alter perception? There's really no excuse for a program with Nebraska's resources and capabilities to have never won a tournament game, and to not make the tournament on a somewhat consistent basis. Is Miles the guy to make that happen? The evidence suggests no.1 point

A few extra games played than I had originally budgeted for at the moment and some big scoring performances down the stretch changing my projection from when the team couldn't score a month or so ago. Watson at 11th right now, one more game should move into 10th. A deep NIT run could get him past Strickland for 8th. Palmer at 18th now, one or two NIT games could get to 16th. A deep run could get to 14th. Would have to go absurd for 5 games to catch Venson Hamilton. Still insane for a two year Nebraska career.1 point

A literal and factually based assessment is not an overreach. If he did what is alleged to have done, then that is truly a felony per the law itself. Then you take into account context, and he will likely plead to probation/diversion/misdemeanor/something minor and not serious. There's no overreach anywhere. Also, what exactly is an incarnation crisis? Too many deities embodying humans in California?1 point
