  1. My point being that a coach who comes in riding the accolades that Scott Frost came in with should have it "figured out" already. Basic coaching functions like clock management, player evaluations and personnel decisions are not something it should take a coach of the year winner three years to "figure out".

  2. Fans need to stop throwing everything on Riley. Yes, we all agree that he was a bad hire. No one doubts that but Frost has had the majority of his staff for three years and they have not been able to fix a thing. I refuse to believe that Riley did so much damage that a new coach and his staff could not fix for three years. There are tens of examples of coaches that turned things around in one year. If you are a good coach, you can. We all love the idea of Frost being our savior but he simply isn’t getting the job done and he has zero excuses. The fan base has been extremely supportive and optimistic, the AD gave him an undeserved contract extension, and he has been allowed to keep all his coaches even though most of them are incompetent. What do we get in return! Three losing seasons in a row, losses to teams with much less talent than us, and nonstop streak of undisciplined play, penalties, and turnovers. I can argue that Paul Chryst or Fitzgerald have done way more with less. When was the last time we won a $hitty trophy? We are the worst team in the BIG and every game is an adventure. So, is all this Riley’s fault? Come on, admit that Frost is lost. He is way out of his league. I am not calling for his head but I am also not convinced that he can turn things around regardless of how much time he is given. His style of coaching is simply not suited for this conference. All evidence is pointing to that.

  4. Totally disagree, if Frost loses for four years straight seasons folks will see it as his failure not ours for not giving him more time. This isn't firing Frank and Bo after 9-3 seasons, it's firing a guy that had four seasons to do SOMETHING and did squat. We've already moved the goalposts considerably in terms of what constitutes success for Frost, that's enough, he shouldn't also need a fifth season to get over the bar we've lowered.

  6. This is absolutely true. I supported replacing Riley as much or more than anyone, and I stand by that. We were Charmin soft all over the field, and that wasn't changing under Riley. But Frost has dug his own hole here, made his own numerous mistakes, and Riley has nothing to do with it.

  7. No one seems to care. No one seems to like this team. No one seems to have anything positive to say about ANY aspect of the program......but, EVERYOE keeps coming onto a HUSKER message board, meaning YOU DO CARE or you would find something else to do with your time.

  8. I really don’t understand. These guys are super talented and can clearly help you. Maurice Washington gets the longest leash ever for some reason, and then we essentially box out Fleming who by all reports was the most dynamic punt returner and absolutely electric with the ball in his hands because he likes Instagram and is “immature”? That just doesn’t make sense to me, this team needs TALENT. It’s on the coaches to evaluate every aspect of a prospect before they get on campus and then when they get here help them succeed. It’s really hard for me to believe in a span of 4 weeks it went from Fleming starting at WR and looking awesome to him not being on the team anymore, it just doesn’t add up. If he’s a Jr in 2 years and still acting up then yes, part ways. But as an 18 year old freshman in a pandemic 1400 miles from home? Maybe help that kid out and keep him around when he’s proven he can help and he knows he’s better than guys like Wyatt Liewer and Levi Falck who are getting reps because they block RB swing passes well even though we can’t execute them in games. Nothing about the offensive snap rotation has made any sense or been consistent. QB: Joke of a rotation and the McCaffrey insertions are becoming more and more random and disruptive. They’re probably sticking him out there because they don’t want him to leave but... it’s not helping NU win games and it totally throws off Martinez’s rhythm and confidence. They’re just not necessary. RB: The best running back on the team is Luke McCaffrey who really should be a WR. Maybe he said he doesn’t want to play there or WR anymore- fine. But what is insane is then you can argue the next best RB we have is also a WR in Robinson. Here are the leading rushers for NU’s offense in total rushing yards this year in order: 1. Adrian Martinez 364/5.4 ypc 2. Luke McCaffrey 364/5.6 ypc 3. Wandale Robinson 216/5.5 ypc 4. Dedrick Mills 205/3.5 ypc 5. Marvin Scott 62/2.6 ypc 6. Rahmir Johnson 30/4.3 ypc 7. Ronald Thompkins 24/4.8 ypc The “starting” running back Dedrick Mills has played in 5 games and has 59 attempts for 205 yards- good for 3.5 YPC. The next leading rusher from the RB position Marvin Scott averages 2.6 YPC. The two RBs “behind” them- Thompkins and Johnson- average 4.8 and 4.3 YPC respectively How on Earth is anything with this situation possible? For some reason our red zone back is Wandale Robinson? How does that make sense? WR: Don’t even know where to begin with how poorly this situation has been handled this year. Robinson is the best WR on the entire team and they keep taking him out of the slot to put him at RB. Betts’ potential is through the roof and apparently we just forgot he existed against Minnesota. Only play we seemingly run for him is one jet sweep per game. Cool. Guy couldn’t even get on the field yesterday against a team playing all backups and we actually were trying to take down field chances for once. The best recruit of the entire class last year was Omar Manning and I don’t even know if he’s on the team anymore and has 1 target the entire season. The best HS rated WR we recruited Marcus Flemming we kicked off the team because he liked Instagram. Alante Brown- where is this guy? Dog house? Nance/Houston/Nixon/Hickman- where the heck are these guys? You’re telling me our issues are perimeter blocking and lack of a downfield threat and we have a 6’6 former TE that we moved to WR who’s played snaps on the edge last year in key games and moments in Chris Hickman who is just sitting on the bench? Oliver Martin has actually been pretty good and a pleasant surprise- where are his targets? Kade Warner for some reason was a starter getting numerous targets and now is totally MIA (which I’m fine with but why was he even out there to begin with with all the options listed above)? Meanwhile (and I don’t mean this with disrespect), the group we currently start and play consistently is a complete non-threat to anyone. Seriously- read through all those names above and then think about how all of those guys are on the bench or not even in uniform while we trot out Liewer, Falck, and Warner. I just do not get it at all. TE: Tight end has actually been pretty solid. They block really well and Austin Allen has made a massive jump. Vokolek was completely overhyped (NU media overhyping a guy? Shocker!) and Stoll obviously is a cornerstone. They’re underutilized as a group and I don’t know that it’ll change going forward or ever- did you know yesterday was Austin Allen’s first TD ever? OL: Dear God help me. The center finally appears to have fixed the snapping issues but didn’t get benched until the Iowa game of his second season despite not being able to accurately snap the ball to the quarterback. When Jurgens was out, we don’t go to the backup center but we move our RG to C and plug in another backup to the OL at RG? The whole offseason i kept reading about needing Farniok to stay at RG to help Benhart who is young, then Jurgens is out and we immediately throw that out and move him to C when his brother and Wilson both have previous experience with snapping? I’m not an expert in OL play but this unit seemingly has made a jump despite the insanity and inconsistency of the bunch. They struggle with poorly timed mistakes and picks but Nebraska’s entire team does so who knows So yeah. I don’t know what else to say really. We essentially recruit really good classes, then get the super talented players here and don’t play them. Then when they get mad about not playing over guys they’re obviously more talented than, we get upset that they’re mad and tell them “its gonna be tough! You can leave if you don’t like it!” And so they obviously leave. Then we get a spiel about how kids are impatient and blah blah while the team can’t do basic things on offense well like run the ball with a running back up the middle of the field or throw the ball deep. “We lack explosion and talent at WR”- okay, well everyone you bring in that has it is either gone or sitting on the sidelines. I haven’t even dove into the play calling and our inability to put guys in a position to succeed. The entire situation with our roster management is maddening and I seriously don’t understand why anyone who is a talented player would sign up to play in this version of the offense at this moment in time with how the roster is handled/treated. Scott has a LOT of soul searching to do in the coming weeks- the roster management and play calling have been atrocious. He has every right to establish his culture but he needs to lift the hood on who he is recruiting and what he’s doing when they get to Lincoln to see why they’re leaving and where the disconnect is. Then he needs to swallow his pride and 1. Review the actual plays that are not working (there are a lot of them) and determine in sincerity if 1. They aren’t working because of the scheme/design of the play or 2. If they aren’t working because of who is on the field currently. NU currently can’t throw down the field- that is a talent/athlete issue. Would you rather have more athletic WR’s out there that can stretch the field and make explosive plays but it takes out the short swing passes/quick screens we run? I’d argue yes- we aren’t successfully able to execute those short passes and screens correctly as is. TL; DR- Scott and the entire staff need to review how they are going about managing their roster and implementing the culture. I’m not saying the culture itself is bad or they’re wrong for emphasizing it- I’m saying they need to reflect on how they’re handling each transfer situation and how they’re trying to merge these guys into the culture they’re trying to instill in the program. There is obviously a disconnect- I’d argue it stems from not playing the most talented and explosive players at their positions even if there are likely to be wild swings in production and errors at times. Roster management needs to be addressed and they need to do better in evaluating kids as recruits before they get here to avoid large departures from the team and guys getting frustrated with their roles.

  9. Not going to happen. Frost has the 'perfect' system and the players are just not 'doing it right'. Frost and Chip Kelly will most likely be show the door at the same time. The fast and furious spread Chip Kelly system is coming to an end. How on earth could anybody with half a brain think that keeping your defense on the field most of the game, as often as possible, and as quickly as possible is an effective strategy?? Remember those feared black shirt Defenses at Nebraska? That was partly because they were sitting on the sideline foaming at the mouth for 10-15 minutes waiting to play another series. Our current defense is lucky if they get 2 minutes between being on the field. Frost is re-inventing the wheel with his offensive scheme and everybody knows it except Frost. We will return to running the ball, but it won't be under a former QB as skipper.

  10. Why does everybody hope Frost "figures it out"? He was supposed to have it figured out already. He was the hot commodity when he was hired. College football's wunderkind football genius. That's why he got the big bucks when he came to Nebraska...because he had turning a faltering football program around "figured out". If he he hasn't figured it out by now, chances are he's not going to figure it out in five years either.

  12. I don't think it's being entitled to simply not like the sh!+ we're being fed. It's not sunshine and rainbows. I'm simply asking to not witness a team who traveled barely 50 kids, down 33 from Covid, walking into Lincoln and easily winning a game, then trolling us on the way out of town. I'm asking for more than 11 wins in 3 years. Is that entitled? If it is then let's just shut this thing down if we can't even ask for that. Frost will get more time, lots of it, but this game was important for the trajectory of this program and it was a huge failure.

  13. That the worst thing for this program was to have the success we did in Osborne's last years. It turned us into entitle jacka$$es who can't be patient. I get it we should be better than we are but guess what we aren't. All I see is complaining and moaning and what happens everyone comes back and watched the games even though they claim they have better things to do. Pelini peaked in year 2, Riley was a stupid hire, Frost will get enough time to figure it out. Because no matter what any of us say none of us will do a damn thing about it. We are an entitled fan base and that's what is wrong with us. Well that and everything else armchair qbs say.

  14. I agree and disagree. Kids will roll with winners. If we begin winning games, then even get into the Big 10 title game, kids will flip. I teach. I still see a crapload of Husker gear. Winning 1 year will help. Look at all of the fair weather people wearing Chiefs stuff, whom never cheered before.

  15. I’ve never understood the whole entitlement thing. How can expecting the program to perform better and wanting it to more closely resemble what it was in the 90s, 80s, 70s be detrimental? These entitlement claims pertain to the fan base and the fans don’t have much to do with what’s happening in the field. The alternate to these entitlement claims surely won’t produce any improvements on the field. There are plenty of bottom dweller programs that have accepted that as their fate and I can only imagine that would make it that much tougher to become a winning program. Besides that, I don’t think it is entitlement but rather a reasonable expectation based on the facilities and expenditures. There is absolutely no reason we should be satisfied with what this program has accomplished over the past 20 years. It is so far out of whack with the money and effort expended it’s almost comical at this point.

  16. What are the excuses IF frost loses to Rutgers in year 3? Rutgers was clapping during commercial time outs? Schiano is in year 1 but frost is still in year 0 so technically Schiano has had more time to build? Schiano inherited more talent? Either way it will never be Frost's fault.

  17. Certainly some truth to this. I generally just watch the games and avoid the game threads. The announcers and analysts never bother me and whatever blown calls the refs make, they never seem one-sided or excuse the team's performance a bit. Then I check in on HuskerBoard and learn that the rest of the world wants to s#!t on Nebraska for reasons that make no sense. Even calling Nebraska the "villain" exaggerates our influence. Nobody is afraid of us. We're not the victim, either. We fought for the right to play football this year and a lot of people appreciated it on behalf of the sport. It wasn't really surprising that we didn't compete for the division. We weren't expected to. When Nebraska starts winning again, we'll be a good story.

  20. This just isn't true. The Huskers aren't a military school that needs to run a historic system to be successful. 12/14 B1G teams and the vast majority of the successful programs over the last ten years run the spread. It isn't the system as much as the designers of that system.

  21. Dupes..? Bufoons..? Retorts like this do not make you part of the solution. They show that you are part of the problem. No one on these pages advocated the actions of the few shown here, and all have condemned white nationalist racists. Including Trump. Did you condemn the BLM protestors that beat innocent people with a skateboard for protecting their businesses? Is it your contention that only groups like the ProudBoys depicted above are the issue? What about BlacBloc and their ilk? Exact same tactics and rhetoric spewing from both. Perhaps you will never admit it, but most of us are able to see with our own eyes that there are dupes and buffoons on both sides of this contentious period in history. But no one on this anonymous internet board, discussing different points of view, deserves the label.

  22. Agreed. The players make a lot of mistakes, but if it was only making a lot of mistakes that was the problem I would not be as concerned. The problem I have is there are so many weird/bad playcalls every game, and it makes me think Frost isn't a good coach, or at least not a good offensive coordinator. And it's a lot of common sense stuff. The most obvious set of the game of course is when McCaffrey comes in fresh with snow on the ground and strong winds and in our 3 previous plays we had a 7 yard run and a 9 yard run, and you have him throw it 2 times. In general, I get really frustrated with any coaching staff that is too scared of doing a type of play too much, as if having it stuffed the 5th time you do it is the end of the world. There are times you should just keep doing something until the other team shows they can stop it. I'm imagining when Wisconsin destroyed us in the championship if they had tried to get creative instead of just doing the same type of play over and over. I feel good coaches know when to force a team to show they can stop a play even if it's obvious you're going to do it. My only theory now is that Frost's offense is too focused on what the defense gives them (or what he perceives they are giving), rather than doing what his team is good at. And if I had to guess, one problem with an offense that does this is once opposing coaches get used to your offense they can just bait you into a bad play.

  23. I have learned that I will be watching my home town Univ of Tulsa team play Cinci for A CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP next week. Since when have we associated NU wt a Conf Championship - 1999! We are as far a way from it figuratively and literally as we've ever been. We are in 1950s territory. Forget dreaming of the 1990s - the 1950s are our current reality. I never expected this kind of bone headed coaching from Frost - start the game, going into a stiff wind wt a freaking play like that. Let Mills run a few times and then go quiet. No passion on the team. As I mentioned before, the Big 10 does not need to adjust to us, but Frost very quickly needs to the Big 10 otherwise his time is limited. It seems that Pride really does come before a fall. We are falling baby and fast. No more wise cracks about why is Rutgers or Maryland in the Big 10- we are right there with them.

  28. I agree in part, but it's more about the identity the football team, not the fans, needs to have. Physical, downhill running. Run the clock. Move the chains. Hit them with play action every now and then. Robinson's long run came out of the Pistol, running downhill. I think Frost is just trying to do too much, over-thinking it, trying to scheme his way into the end zone. In P5 football, especially the B1G, you can't scheme for scores. It's about blocking and execution. Make a hole at the defensive line, get a blocker up to the second level at the point of attack, and get what you can. It's how Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan State have been successful in the past. It's boring, methodical, but it works.

I look at the opportunities Mo was shown and then Fleming was on Instagram and made some comments.....Really? Let our most dynamic guy, in a depleted position group leave...Then even rumors last year of Mills getting into some "trouble" for being late to practice and sits...The culture Frost is establishing, from the outside looking in (and rumors) is causing some issues in the locker room IMHO....Gotta show the same to guys across the board. We sure do seem to lose as manu as we "get". And that's hurting us.

  34. I saw on another board that this year we have averaged a whopping 5.6 points per game in the 2nd half..........5.6 points......I do not think anyone would term that as even remotely successful or headed in the right direction. As much crap as Chin gets, the defense has improved. Other than 3rd down success rate. DL playing better. ILB playin better. JoJo improved as well. I do not like the DB's playing 12 yards off, but even they have improved their play. The offense is a complete disaster. With little development of anyone....RB, WR, TE, QB, OL......Yes they are young, BUT have they gotten any better since week 1.......A lot of this is on the OC.......We stop running against the worst run D in the league.....to pass, in the wind......to put our D back on the field time and time again. Game after game... Some whole sale changes need to take place or we are looking at another losing season next year....

It is win or lose for 2021 and looking at that schedule...

  41. I’d suggest that anyone who feels bad about how this team performs in games should get themselves a life that doesn’t revolve around some college aged student athletes and their overmatched coaches. Might wanna start now cuz I’ve been efforting this for about the last 19 years and it took almost that much time. Call me lazy but I actually prefer these last 3 years to the Callahan and Riley eras. Probably because IDGAF anymore, and in a weird way this is better. Crap like today used to ruin about two days for me. But today, after our initial series, I ran out to get some breakfast burritos and felt absolutely no compulsion to rewind the game when I returned. Then when the game was over, I went Christmas shopping in a perfectly good mood. Sure I would’ve rather they played well and won but they didn’t and I really don’t care because now it is just a game and team I choose to watch and I can walk away from it whenever there is something better to do. IDK, is this apathy? I have the feeling that last year’s Ohio State game is the last Husker game I will ever attend in person and I’m okay with that.

  44. I think the despair in reasonable. This has been the worst stretch of play since the 50s. I assume the majority of posters don't remember the Bill Jennings days. I question if this has been the worst season since then. At least Callahan's and Riley's last seasons you could say the team gave up because the writing was on the wall. Can't say that this time around. I'm not totally sure if I think it is or not, but it's depressing that I'm even considering it.

  47. We weren't the villains. Not then. Not now. We just didn't have much of a team this year. If the Huskers had come out on fire and been any kind of factor in the Big 10, we would have been a feelgood story and the Big 10 would have welcomed it, like they did Indiana. If anything the media has been nicer to Nebraska than our own fans. Like it or not, the unexpected failure of Scott Frost's return to Nebraska is a story. Otherwise there's not much reason to talk about Nebraska at all.
