  1. First off, gotta commend Frost on his hires. They came in and hit the recruiting trail running. Being able to land the transfers we did, and then to top it off today with Allen and Bonner, is commendable. Very excited about what the future holds!

  2. feel like we've been saying that for 3 yrs now and then they trot out 2 walk-ons and some guy with a nagging injury.

  3. You can commend the offseason actions (admitting we have a problem, letting go of dead weight on the coaching staff, hiring some well-known names with great recruiting skills, managing the roster via small high school additions + big transfer class) while still not buying the hype. Those can be distinct. All he's saying is Frost did what needed to be done (and he has struggled to do in previous offseasons). Good on him.

  4. "lead a cause" and "misinformation" seem like such wildly overblown language. He's a dude chilling, drinking, smoking weed and shooting the s#!t with people. That's all his podcast is, 3-4+ hours at a time just chitchatting about anything and everything. He's also a self-described meathead dips#!t idiot and has told people numerous times not to take medical or scientific advice from him because he has no idea what he's talking about. Only difference is he gets paid a f#&% ton of money for it and massive amounts of people like listening. There's no misinformation responsibility or cause/crusade happening when you get a drink with some whacko spouting nonsense at the bar, so there shouldn't be here either.

  5. I'm old enough to remember when anti-vaxxers were roundly mocked and marginalized as the affluent morons with more time and money than sense that they are. Somehow we've undergone a bit of a reckoning since then and that's been neatly repackaged into "encouraging a wide variety of ideas to be spoken about" and vice has morphed into virtue. Funny how that happened.

  7. Here we go with the kool-aid pumping. I am excited to see what the media department and the sports writers will come up with between now and August. I am not buying any of it until I see it.

  8. Good get. There is no way the kid from A&M gets here unless we lose two guys. I think we process out Stepp.

  10. Spotify made this bed when they signed on Rogan. It wasn't a mystery that Rogan talks politics before Spotify signed him, so I'm not all that sympathetic to Spotify especially given political talk shows are a part of their business. And Rogan is making part of his money off of his misinformation about covid, so I'm not all that sympathetic towards him either. Rogan runs his own show and could bring on experts to help educate him and his audience on what he got wrong about covid or he could double down on the misinformation, so he's free to take actions on his show about the issues.

  16. This! Trash goes in, trash comes out. The American media intake borderlines on criminal but we are happy to soak it in. This nation is on a crash course with drama only because we thrive on drama! Pisses me off!

  17. Found this story tonight and had no idea this was even a thing. They're definitely encroaching into book burning territory. Banned: Books on race and sexuality are disappearing from Texas schools in record numbers Ironically after thinking about it for a bit... it seems like Texas conservatives want to create... a safe space? Banning ideas or in this case books for having ideas you don't agree with is a terrible precedent. I guess those same people who wanted to ban porn and were convinced video games caused violence in the 1990s never went away. They just found a new approach. Kind of staggering how invested they are in this, though:

  18. Honestly, Joe Rogan has a really interesting guest list and generates really interesting conversations. I have no desire to see him banned, and maintain the same standard for my adversaries on HB. But if he wants to lead a cause -- and it appears that he does -- he's gotta accept the blowback, especially when he's dealing in random parts from the internet and passing them off as the "equivalent" of the other side. What's funny is that this is simply free-market capitalism at work. You can sell your product wherever you want, and take your business wherever you want. And if the money is more important to you, you are free to change your opinion.

  19. Does Spotify have political talk shows from both sides of the isle? I only use it to listen to music in the car. I have never listened to Rogan. If bad COVID info is his crime, that will blow over in another 6 months.

  22. I think you're being a bit bearish though history gives you every right to. From my perspective, even if we see zero improvement from the O line- the addition of an actual qb who can throw the ball, coupled with an actual competent punter and kicker alone turns games like michigan st, illinois, and minnesota into wins. I, for one, think we'll see a noticeable improvement in the o line. lets not forget they looked just fine against michigan before teddy's injury. That story of frosty needing to bring in outside help to correct jurgens snapping issues (and it was done in 5 mins) tells me g austin couldnt teach fundamentals. Pretty solid offseason knowing the season we came out of.

  23. You have to think most rational people would hope she gets primaried. I'm 100% for Freedom of Speech. It allows people like MTG to reveal what they believe. The onus is on her constituents to decide if those beliefs align with their own.

  24. I have to agree and I've been a pretty critical of HCSF the last couple of years. Now if it translates into wins on the field remains to be seen but given where we were in Nov. when Frost was retained but the staff was let go this is about as good as I could have hoped for.

  25. I agree. I think Frost had a very good offseason. Now just need to translate that to wins this fall and keep building.

  26. I think it goes beyond Neil Young moving to a new platform. And I totally agree he is more than welcome to do that. Bonus if he makes more $$ out of it. I think this about how many performers it takes to pressure Spotify into removing Rogan from its platform. Rogan won’t leave. He claims 11M listeners. If enough people leave to counter the 11 million listeners Spotify may comply for business reasons. Either way Spotify is the loser and I suspect they told Rogan to apologize and move on for now. This is similar to the spice company getting boycotted. Politics is bad for business. Somehow Chick-fil-a manages to grow despite the backlash. Good products I guess. Not really a fan though.

  30. 8?? Im sorry but that is delusional. 125- 100% Michigan and bonus points 133- Michigan Favored 141 Slight lean to Michigan 149- I will take Lovett against most guys. N 157- Toss up but I will give Robb a W. N 165- 100% loss 174- Toss up 184- Michigan is favored 197- Ill give it to Schultz but its not a guarantee HWT- 100% loss. I havent missed a dual on Cliff Keen. I am a little disappointed in our seniors. Red Venz Schultz have been here forever as starters but its hard to argue they are better than they were 3 years ago.

  33. The team played better last night than I had seen them play in a while. But...it's still a loss. One thing that last might made clear. We need a good big man. Anyone who thought Fred's offense doesn't need one is sorely mistaken.

  38. ^^ per Johns Hopkins University The lockdowns during the early phase of the pandemic in 2020 reduced COVID-19 mortality by about 0.2%, said the broad review of multiple scientific studies. “We find no evidence that lockdowns, school closures, border closures, and limiting gatherings have had a noticeable effect on COVID-19 mortality,” the researchers wrote. But the research paper said lockdowns did have “devastating effects” on the economy and contributed to numerous social ills. “They have contributed to reducing economic activity, raising unemployment, reducing schooling, causing political unrest, contributing to domestic violence, and undermining liberal democracy,” the report said.

  39. How's it even cancel culture though? There was a minor change to a logo to avoid a currently unsavory pop culture phenomenon, and if not for a press release no one would bat an eye. Herbie is still there, he's still a blonde hick in overalls, and he's still the main mascot.

  40. Is Herbie now saying white people are number 1? They won't rest until Herbie is a hermaphroditic rainbow.

  41. Vent coming. Feel free to move on... As someone who's had a tattoo of Herbie for over 30 years this does kinda piss me off. Not so much at UNL, I get the stance they have to take though decisions like this contribute to this problem, but that an extremely minute group of people (or just internet trolls?) so easily sway the rest of society into associating a minor gesture with something 99.9+% of society finds abhorrent and likely knows that in 99.9+% of cases the gesture has nothing to do with that abhorrent activity or thought. Now I run the minute risk of some d-bag starting in on me cuz he/she wants to associate "okay" Herbie with racism simply because of few jackoffs, and "media" freely associates the gesture with these few jackoffs. Hate it when I get triggered by this kinda crap!
