  1. How can 2 or 3 posters be allowed to derp and troll until all they do is bring out the worst in everyone. Why? It's not like it isn't obvious. It's not like it isn't 100% true. Why? Is there something I'm missing? Please point me to the valuable contributions that are keeping them here. I sure can't see it.

  2. Hey, could somebody give me a call or shoot me a text when all this election/Trump/hate/protesting/racism/sexism/counseling talk dies down to low roar. Already sick of it. If that's all this place is gonna be for awhile, count me out. Was hoping it would somewhat end on Tuesday but it has gone into overdrive. Don't you folks have anything better to do than argue about sh#t you don't have control over?

We cancelled school that day so shift liability of injury back on the parents. North Platte is taking all the kids to the football field to watch. I worry that kids will not listen to directions and will take off the glasses and burn their eyeballs!

It's absolutely worth it if you like that kind of stuff. It's literally a once in a lifetime, very magnificent experience. There's videos on youtube of crowds reacting to full solar eclipses and they're just incredible.

Coach- Who's going to keep them from staring at the sun all the other days of the year? I heard about schools cancelling for liability on the radio....IMO, pretty stupid. Although I don't mind if it's because they realize the day will essentially be wasted.

    3. JJ Husker

      JJ Husker

I wasn't commenting so much on that type of planning. I'm not real big on planning ahead for my personal time either....unless it's something that is vital. I've just had a bunch of customers lately that request things they have obviously known they will need for a long time and they want us to sh#t it out in a day or two and it's not the types of things that usually get done within a month let alone in a day. Gettin' kind of annoying.

    4. JJ Husker

      JJ Husker

Example...one of them is building a chain coffee shop and it's well along the way but they just now are asking for custom designed and built decorative awning deals that need to be powder coated......they want them now but out of the goodness of their heart said they could wait up to two weeks. WTF, lead time for the painting alone is typically two weeks. More of 6-8 week type project. It isn't just them though, seems everyone has severely shortened expectations. I laughed and told them to let me know if they find anyone that can do it within a month because I might have a bunch of work for them.

Well, I thought BB’s was great. Liked the atmosphere, they had a good beer selection (had Kinkaider Devils Gap Jalapeño Ale) and my meal was excellent. I went with the crawfish platter (Etouffee and fried tails) and fried gator appetizer. My fave was the Crawfish Etouffee and rice. My wife and daughter really liked their meals also. Wanted to round it out with Bananas Foster but couldn’t talk anybody into splitting it with me.

Earlier in the day we had lunch at Mellow Mushroom. Was very happy with that too. Their lunch special, $6.99, is a steal. Had half order of wings and a bowl of mushroom soup. It was a pick two deal, also could’ve gone with a salad or hoagie or slice of pizza. Maybe the best value, least costly meal I’ve seen in a long time.

    4. JJ Husker

      JJ Husker

@teachercd No. We were pretty occupied all day. Plus my old frat (Kappa Sigma) doesn’t exist as I remember it anymore. They got their charter pulled shortly after I left and lost the house. They may have made a comeback, colony or something, but I don’t think they have an actual house on campus right now.

  9. Going to say goodbye now just in case. I won’t tolerate pop up ads. So if they’re overwhelming or intrusive imma outta here. Hopefully that won’t be necessary but...

I will say I just perused the Huskermax site and the ads did not appear overwhelming and I experienced no pop ups. Sure they’re there but they were fixed in place so I could tune them out. Maybe it will be tolerable.

    3. brophog

      brophog

@JJ Husker, the pop ups are very sporadic, can not exist for months. I’m pretty sure they’re unintentional. See the cafe forum there for some examples of problems people have ran into.

    4. Enhance

      Enhance

@JJ Husker my only qualm with digital advertising is what kind of impact it has on site performance and load times. Certain types of digital ads (particularly one kind known as programmatic in the industry) can cause sites to take anywhere from 5-15 seconds longer to load. Google started penalizing sites that utilized pop ups within the last couple of years, but that hasn't stopped them from being used, of course.

Overall, digital ads have never really bothered me. I know I'm going to be served them, so if I'm going to be served them, they might as well be targeted to my interests. Part of this may be because I'm almost 30 and digital ads have just been a part of most of my life practically. Advertising is also how most online content publishers subsidize themselves. Look at The Athletic. They require a subscription and don't serve any ads, but they also have YET to turn a profit, and it's still unclear if they will. People want their cake and they want to it eat it, too.

  10. This 15 posts per page crap is so frikken annoying. I’m sure the plan must be to team that up with the display of more ads. I’m sorry but that will be it for me. It was a good 16 year run.

15 posts on something like the gameday posts makes it damn near impossible to follow now.  You post and then bam, a whole new page and a second page as you're trying to catch up, easier to just skip pages and go to the end.  I finally got to the point I just said screw it i will just miss a bunch of posts, im not fighting with it anymore.

    3. Xmas32

      Xmas32

@JJ Husker I agree the 15 posts/page is super annoying.  As for the new poster influx, I think that seems to be the case every football season.  A flood of new posters and without fail 99% of them are troll accounts/super negative.  Definitely a 1-2 whammy out of the chute and if you (not you specifically 'you' in general) were annoyed over the posts/page thing, loading a new page and seeing it full of of new posters spouting garbage would be aggravating.  I've found that staying away on gamedays works well for me as the game threads are hellscapes of negativity and there is far too much wild overreaction.  I'll pop back in on the 'What did we learn' thread and during the week it calms down.

Will be bummed to see you go if you decide to make that step.

    4. JJ Husker

      JJ Husker

@Xmas32 that's pretty much it exactly. Although I learned to stay away from the game threads a long time ago. I'll pop in there from time to time just to see what asinine takes are being pushed. But it's definitely just for entertainment purposes and nothing I take too seriously. The typical influx of negative posters is never welcome but coupled with the 15 post thing it is really rubbing me the wrong way. Of course having my Kool-Aid bubble burst in game 1 isn't helping either.

  11. Why is anyone using the mobile site at this point? I still haven't seen one single ad on the desktop version. I have always used the desktop version on my phone, iPad and computer. Never did like the mobile version.

  15. Who woulda thought the real damage of the Callahan years would be that a large portion of the fanbase no longer expects excellence? What some people are willing to settle for and even defend is just sad. The football product that is being put on the field is unacceptable, no ifs, ands, or buts.

This whole tirade is not aimed at you btw. It is aimed at our inept coaching staff. If they worried half as much about preparing this team and actually coaching them to win as they do about f'ing twitter and some asshat journalists and boo hoo poor officiating, we would be seeing different results.

  20. The stupid on this message board hurts something fierce. Some apparently can't imagine the difference between the results of a coach and the results of a brand. Newsflash ya bunch of Einsteins- Nebraska has better resources than Oregon St. You can't assume his record or championship results here will be the same as it has been there. Pure stupidity.

I would argue that you can use this logic on any coach that's not a winner moving to a bigger program. Resources don't mean much if you don't have a winner, ask Michigan or Florida. It took Notre Dame several hiring/firings to be competitive.
