  1. This from 3 years ago pretty much says it all:

  2. i am a bit of a gun dork. i have my trusty old shotgun that i like to hunt with and maybe shoot some sporting clays (very fun IMO). but i think we have some very stupid gun laws that need to be looked at. we won't be able to stop all the nutjobs so i think we have to try to limit the damage they can do. bump stocks and large capacity magazines need to be banned or seriously controlled. we can at least try to limit the high body counts the wackos so desperately crave.

  5. That wouldn't terribly surprise me when hearing comments about the running back room from Held. He made it no secret that the seniors were more featured in the spring and that the competition would be more open in the fall. Furthermore, he's been very frustrated about the group's lack of finishing and general play once they reach the second/third level. Our senior backs have been lacking in this department in their careers.

  6. In his six years, Frank Solich only had one season that wouldn't have been welcome on Tom Osborne's resume. But man....that 7-7 season hit Nebraska fans like a Callahan/Riley sandwich back in the day. Of course we should welcome the man back. Some forget that Frank was also the toughest 160 pound fullback you've ever seen.

  7. One thing has been abundantly clear for a very long time in this country: children dying and families being ripped apart are not enough of a catalyst to force meaningful change.

  8. Here's the thing in all of this... There is something to this investigation, outside of what we have seen with the indictments so far. Informants don't just get to hang around and be protected if they have no credible information on criminal events. The fact that team Trump is doing they're damnedest to out the source and conduct damage control means they are extremely scared about what the informant knows. If there is no collusion, no criminality, and it's simply a witch hunt why is the most powerful man in the free world so scared of what one person knows?

  9. This is comforting. Our president is so poor with the English language that we can't reasonably dissect his words.... I think that NYC attorney needs to expand the list of people to be deported for not speaking "English".

  12. Had this little mini-hallucination today after listening to part of the Bah show on 1620. Franks gets invited back to be recognized on field before the start of the Colorado game. The crowd erupts in deafening, earth shaking, history healing shouts of "Go Big Red" and we proceed to destroy the Buffaloes on our way to an 8+ win season!!! I know, he'll be coaching that day, so yeah, won't happen. I did say it was an hallucination. But maybe a year or two down the road when he retires?

  14. It seems to me - from bits and piece pieced together over the years plus my own observations being a student from 1997-2001 - that we were going to get bogged down without major changes. As you said, had Bo stuck around perhaps the defense could have made strides. But I also get the feeling that the same thing that made Nebraska great for a lot of years - assistants staying around - was starting to make the recruiting side harder. As some of those guys got older, the energy they had to put into recruiting was starting to wane. Plus the effects of the scholarship limitations were really starting to take hold. The Huskers couldn't stockpile talent like they could at one time and the playing field was starting to level significantly. To be honest, at this point the last two years of Franks tenure look to me to be almost exactly like the first two years of Riley's. We finished .500 for the first time in quite awhile then got back to 9 wins the next year. But the nine wins were largely built on a weak schedule and we got drilled by the good teams we played. I'm not saying Frank would have crashed like Riley did but I don't think his last season was nearly as much of a rebound as many like to think. And that's before you include anything away from the Stadium.

  16. I have no problem with this. Frank did a lot for the football program over a lot of years. It's too bad that it ended like it did but if this is a way to bury the hatchet then it's a good thing. It's nice for the Athletic Dept or whoever to offer something like this. But Frank deserved to be fired. He just isn't that great of a head coach. He was a loyal assistant and was probably pretty good at that. But he was in over his head as head coach of the Huskers and particularly should never have tried to be both HC and OC. He just didn't have a feel for that part of it. When Tom's recruits ran out, so did Frank's success. It was time to do something different. The direction we tried was a colossal failure but that doesn't make the original change wrong.

  18. This was a hot topic on 1620 the Zone both during Sharp & Benning as well as Nick Bahe's (sp?) show. If you look at Frank's record in the 6 seasons he was here-Wow. Pretty darn good: He won the division three times, went to a national championship, won a conference championship, and coached a Heisman Trophy winner. His poorest season was 7-7 AND HE WAS FIRED? I remember hearing that Pederson (Pedersen) contacted Urban Meyer to offer him the Nebraska job and Meyer said, 'No way! You fired a coach who averaged at least 9 wins a season and you fired him?' That whole deal set a precedent in college football and was the undoing of Nebraska. I hope Frank can come back and can be recognized for the good things he did for Nebraska. He played here, he was an assistant coach for 19 years and coached here for 6 years. He deserves a little love in my opinion. (Yeah, I know there were other things going on that went towards Frank's demise but come on! He did everything Pedersen asked and was still kicked to the curb! Poor form!)

  19. Way to go NRA! Another school shooting Now are your brainwashed supporters will go out at stock up on even more ARs and that means more $$ for the good olé NRA. The answer to all this is clearly more guns. When are people going to finally wake up and realize that the NRA cares only about the NRA and nothing else. I find it hard to believe that there are really so many stupid people in this country.

  21. I was a stupid early twenty something that was more interested in beer than football when Solich was here. And I know I made some dumb comments watching games during that time. I almost feel like there should be a "receiving line" where people like me can walk through, shake his hand, and say "my bad...."

  28. What exactly are you getting at? Why should we need to do this? Is the gun violence problem not obvious enough for congress to realize they need to do something? How many more dead school children is it going to take for something to happen? I guess you're asking a fair question, but I seriously doubt my GOP congressman is going to stand up against the NRA. Especially when our own governor wants the NRA to re-locate to Nebraska (are you freaking kidding me, Pete?). I reached out to Deb Fischer expressing my frustration after Sandy Hook when she voted against some sort of reasonable gun control measure and all I got was some sort of BS generic "thanks for caring" reply. Congress has failed miserably on gun control ever since they let the Crime Bill expire during the GW Bush era.

  35. I'd be very pleasantly surprised if Nebraska held Troy to 17 points. I wish Nebraska was catching them as the home opener as they're trying to replace a 4 yr starting QB and Brown is a helluva coach.

  36. This story is kinda pissing me off. Manafort ran the campaign. Why the hell wouldn't the FBI want someone keeping tabs on it? They're supposed to protect the country, not a political candidate. Sometimes I still can't believe this is real life. The GOP would rather let Russia have their way with us than let an asshole who slapped an R next to his name go down. It's pretty ironic that we might be here because Comey didn't want the Clinton investigation news to come out after the election and make it look like the FBI was playing sides, so he came out with it weeks before the election. Now the GOP is s#!tting all over the FBI anyway.

  37. Was Solich a "great" head coach? No, he wasn't. Did he do some personal things that he probably regrets, sure. His biggest fault was that he followed a legend at Nebraska, and the team was coming off a historic stretch in college football. I made some stupid comments about him as a dumb guy in my early to mid 20s, but I am very thankful for all of his years as an assistant coach at NU, and even his tenure as head coach. Not many people would have been successful following Osborne.

  42. This is not a well coached team. Also this year record wise should be worse than Anderson's worst team. With Scott and Wilk gone after this year, I fail to see how Erstad's run has/will be any better than Anderson's. As a die hard it's tough to see our program come to this.

  43. Ohio State 2011 is an odd choice. It was the greatest comeback in Husker history, but it came against a .500 team that dominated a lifeless Nebraska in the first half, and tanked when they lost their star quarterback in the second half. Ohio State was still a brand name, but the game meant little that year. OSU lost to Purdue a couple weeks later. And if it was the best win of the Bo Pelini era, Bo Pelini sure wasn't feeling it. That was the game that resulted in Tapegate #1, where Bo went off on the fans and said he wanted out of Nebraska. I really don't miss that douchebag.
