Why is Mo Wash listed as missing on The Journal Star's site? https://journalstar.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/missing/latest-missing-persons-cases-in-nebraska/collection_b24bfb6e-d398-565a-b6a6-9d76934426a5.html#4

I fought the law and won. My complaint I filed against my property tax increase was reviewed and the assessor agreed that I was being way over-valued. So instead of a 32% increase, I only have a 15% increase. I'll take it after remaining stagnant for several years now.

@JJ Husker I don't think the valuation process is near as responsible or trustworthy as we would hope. If I'm being honest, my argument wasn't exactly foolproof. I looked up similar homes, their prices and what they sold for vs. their county valuations in recent years, but I also did it all sort of last minute and there were some obvious flaws in my argument. But what are they going to do, dedicate hours of time to my case? They probably got thousands of complaints and requests for reassessments.
Even the assessor's explanation of why they sided with me felt vague and straight forward. Literally they put one sentence on my report that amounted to 'I looked at the complaint's argument and agreed with them' lol

@Enhance I guess what frustrates me is, I know they base the value on comp sales from a set time period and neighborhood. I researched those comp sales and absolutely none of them supported their huge increase. I gave them about ten comps that supported mine and they just said no, our valuation stands. And they won't provide the basis on which they valued it. I could've taken it the next step and appealed it to the county commissioners but I didn't want to commit any more time to it. They were about $80k higher than my highest guess. They just want/need money and that is hard to fight.

Has anyone here ever done one of those 'drive a supercar on a local track' experiences? I've long thought about it and it turns out there's going to be one near Omaha Oct. 2-3.

I was at a conference in Texas last year and they had an event at the Circuit of the Americas. Most of the time, they let people take the class and actually get to drive the souped-up Audis they have there. But since there were so many of us for on one evening, they had drivers for the cars and we just got to ride. It was pretty fun just to get to ride in it. I don't know what it would cost to actually get to drive it but I think it would be a blast.

@knapplc just leave the TCS on and make sure it's got good tires
If you don't mind dropping bigger coin there's Bondurant driving school in Phoenix.

Would rather eat dirt and old oil than buy the 'new' NCAA '13 game this summer.

Would like to flip the largest middle finger in the world right now towards Blizzard, for turning Diablo 3's release day into a cesspool of idiocy.

Has anybody picked up and read/started reading Dan Brown's new book, Inferno? Critic reviews haven't been great from what I've seen.

I think I may try out a name change on here. Decision pending. Kind of tired of this one.

I've had my first ever puppy for about 24 hours now. Poop for days.

This might be a 'well, duh' for many of you, but if you've ever had issues quoting or working with the quote function, I've just started using the BBCode Mode function. What a difference it makes.

Well that makes sense. You just don't see much crossover with Vikings, Bears and Packers fans. The ole black and blue division typically stays pretty true to form and usually seems pretty aligned to the city. I've spent some time in Milwaukee and ran into both Packers and Bears fans. There's some pretty strong feelings between those fan bases and I've found Vikings fans to be the third spoke in that wheel. Not sure there's another 3 teams anywhere that all really sort of despise two other franchises seemingly equally. It's kind of a neat and unique phenomenon imo. That's why it seemed odd to me to like 3 Chicago teams and then Minnesota. FWIW, I was a big Green Bay fan as a kid and still have a soft spot for them. But I also loved Fran Tarkenton and Walter Peyton. Sweetness is probably my all time favorite NFL player. But growing up in Nebraska, I kind of had pick a team because none were geographically natural.
-
Yeah the really tough thing is that as I've gotten older my Vikings fandom has sort of become less. I'm much more of a fan of the NFL in general these days; but, my fandom for other Chicago teams has sort of developed this affinity for the Bears. It now feels complicated because part of me thinks 'well, you like all other Chicago teams, it may as well be the Bears, too' while the other part of me is telling myself 'you've liked the Vikings forever AND Chicago is a divisional foe, you twit.'
I guess how I would describe it now is I hope the Bears do well and I don't actively root against them, and then when the Vikings/Bears play, I sort of pretend it's not happening lol.

Drinking beer while preparing for finals has brought a whole new level of studying into my life.

Fall semester starts today. Here's a shout-out to Gmoose, myself and all those other unlucky souls out there braving the world of education today.

Journalism has always been about breaking a story first. The only difference between today and 50 years ago is the tools we have to tell a story faster.

Michigan State has no room to bash Michigan for losing to Alabama, given the even more embarrassing shellacking 'Bama gave MSU two years ago.

Former Husker and current New England Patriot Alfonzo Dennard arrested for DUI in Lincoln Thursday morning.

Not sure if anyone has seen yet, but Bo has said no media for the first practice Monday.

My car started to lurch a little bit on the highway this morning. Hoping it's just a spark plug, but, has anybody ever used the Omaha Subaru dealer? Think I could get a loaner while they look at it?

I'm disappointed in the suckitude coming from some of the posters here. We've plateaued on board donations at $214. Some of you use this board waaaaaay more than I do. Help them out!

I've got Kentucky, UNC, Villanova and MSU in the Final Four. Kentucky winning it all.

So, now the ESPN app won't let me stream from my cable package and is asking me to pay that extra $4.99/month. On top of that, they've made what they had available worse in some ways. I can't fault them for making up cord cutting revenue, but this sucks as a consumer.

@Comfortably Numb was a telemarketer several years ago selling a competing phone and internet service to Cox. Still cracks me up recounting the many times I heard people tell me “Oh, no thank you. I love my Cox.”

This kind of stuff is so irritating (tweet).

@Cdog923 Yes. To me, college sports (particularly basketball and football) have so much tradition and allure associated with their stadiums. They're a huge piece of the sport and eliminating those opportunities to play in corporate environments just feels like an insult to the tradition of the game.
-
@Enhance I don't disagree. It would be a ton of fun to watch FSU at Death Valley, then LSU return the favor at Doak.

Welp, this didn't age well.

#TriggeredTuesday having a tire fixed/replaced this morning. There are six chairs in the lobby, separated 3 and 3. The two people who were here before me took the middle chairs.

@GSG Oh I sat next to them alright!!! Come on though, it's just like the urinal law. You don't take the even numbered urinal if there's an odd number total, and you don't take a urinal next to another guy unless there's no other option.
