#1stWorldProblemRant: a lot of people in the 55+ demo must not know what AirPods are. People at my work (including complete strangers) will try to strike up polite conversations with me when I have them in.
I mean, it's obvious they're headphones, right? Which comes with the innate understanding that the person is probably listening to something, yeah? Is it because they're hard to see? What other reason would a stranger have for trying to tell me why they're tired after walking for 15 minutes on a treadmill in the company gym??? This kind of stuff happens far too often. And the worst is when I'm actually having a phone conversation on them. People can hear me talking and they try to interrupt. It's like they think I'm talking to myself.

@ZRod No, that’s “I hate the Hallmark channel” right there. But yeah, I guess I love her enough to let her watch that garbage on MY tv

@teachercd you need to go old school hipster douche and carry a boom box on your shoulder.

If you own a pick up truck, what percentage of time would you say you use it for an intended purpose vs. using it as a means of pure transportation from Point A to B.

@ZRod I sincerely hope you're being sarcastic but I can't tell for certain so I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt!

@Enhance I'm just playing around. Sorry, sir...

Everybody - go to the Giordano's FB page and vote to bring their next location to Omaha.

If you could eliminate any penalty in football, what would you choose and why?
I'd choose false starts (and the defensive counterpart offsides). You could still blow the play dead, but don't waste time explaining the call or allowing the teams to re-huddle and call in new plays. Just force them to line up and get after it. -
Was there a food you hated while growing up, only to realize later you hated it because it was made poorly?
I (think) I have a pretty big one: steak. I really did not like actual steaks growing up... ribeyes, T-bones, the like. But it was because I didn't know anything about steaks and my parents would often cook them medium to well done and served with A1. It wasn't until I got older and had well-cooked steaks that I realized I liked them a lot.

@Danny Bateman I had a somewhat similar experience. My earliest memories of asparagus were out of a can. I didn't "hate" it, but I definitely didn't like it. I remember my dad made oven baked asparagus one time when I was about 10 and I thought "where the hell as this been?"

Ron Kellogg tweeted out - Tressel has toured Memorial Stadium 12 times, he even shook his hand. He thinks he's the man who will come to coach.

The extent to which humans have traditionally treated the value of another's life has always been difficult for me to understand.

For how hated and routinely-campaigned-against tobacco is, it's incredible to me that it's still a relatively popular commodity.

13-1 Wisconsin signed the #44 ranked class on 24/7. Signing guys to their system is one thing, but from an outsider, that seems really disappointing.

I agree with all of that. I think with some better coaching and better schemes, we won't see running backs going 75 yards untouched, or TE's and WR's without a defender within 10 yards of them. I think Nebraska has the better playmakers by a small margin right now (I expect this gap to widen very soon), and I'm excited to see that show up on the field.

Vala's Pumpkin Patch is quickly turning into the Disney of the Midwest.
Every year since 2016, my work has offered discounted tickets. They used to be $10 each. I just got an email today about the tickets. They're now discounted to $17.99/ticket for a weekday (full price is $19.99) and $34.99/ticket for the weekend (full price is $39.99).
So, for the amount of tickets I was going to buy, I can either save $18 for the weekday or $45 for the weekend. Obviously that's better than full price, but not by much when you consider how much things on the inside cost now, too. Just wild what that place has turned in to. I'm all for capitalism but... geesh.- Show previous comments 11 more

If you were in HS it is probably a fun place to go since there is little supervision and you could totally sneak in vapes and booze.
If you are a mom it is probably a cool place to go just so you can really push the limits of your husband's patience, really send him near that breaking point and then top if all off with getting him and and having super tired cranky kids and letting him know that you are going to bed early since you are worn out. Maybe also letting him know that saying "thank you" to the girl that gave you your change after buying a 14 dollar funnel cake seemed a bit "too flirty"

@Red Fivethats actually the perfect description haha.
I will say that It is regarded as one of the best in the country and there truly is a lot of stuff to do. They have their own train ride, haunted houses, tons of attractions and shows, rentable camp sites/fire pits, etc. It also holds a lot of sentimental value to me because I started going in the early 90s as a kid, but it also used to cost only a couple bucks to get in. Now they just keep expanding every year and finding new reasons to slap another $5 onto admission.

That's about 25% more than Fritzler's Corn Maze here. https://www.fritzlerfarmpark.com/
But Fritzler's has GOATS, acrobatic goats and pumpkin cannons.

Informal poll: my wife is traveling this weekend, which is the first time we haven't been together on a weekend in probably... years... by this point. Don't even remember the last time.

Would like to remind everyone that the first Huskerboard Bar "Crawl" is tomorrow, 6 p.m., at the Brewsky's on 27th and Cornhuskers. Not really a "crawl", but an excuse to drink and talk sports. Be there!

tOSU's Elliott's first carry of this game was an 80-yard touchdown. It's now almost half time and he has only three total carries. Who is calling their plays???

Car folks - I have a repair guy quoting me at just $1,000 (before tax) to replace spark plugs and the valve gasket covers on my Subaru Impreza. Outside of "do it yourself," does that seem like a fair price?

I had my ears washed today because my ear canals were closing up when I laid down or even smiled. They cleaned out ear wax chunks twice the size of baked beans. I have super human hearing now.

Anybody have recommendations for yard drainage professionals that aren't outrageously expensive?

Yeah thats going to be a problem without storm drains. The pipe that broke a few years ago that flooded your driveway.....was it a city main water line that burst? If so go back to them and explain the problem.....maybe they can help you bring in new dirt for the places your lot sunk. Cities always have a stash of dirt and they have the loaders to move it. You might end up planting new grass or sod etc.
-
Good call! Yes I contacted them yesterday about it but I believe they've been flooded (see what I did there?!) with calls the last few days. Had to leave a message.
I doubt it would happen, but, I wonder if I could convince them to make a culvert opening to my drain pipe since they felt it was necessary to do that for a bunch of other houses except mine. Wishful thinking...

On a scale of 1-10, how irritated and/or pissed should I be that one of the people I share my Netflix account with (brother/sister-in-law, mother/father-in-law) upgraded my Netflix account to the Ultra HD package without asking me? You have to do it from a logged in computer and not the app.
Bear in mind that I've never once asked any of them to help pay for it, but none of them have ever offered, either. It's only a $4/month difference, but to not even ask or gives a heads up?- Show previous comments 9 more

I'm inordinately excited about my whet stone that just arrived and sharpening my chef's knife for the first time... ever.
I'm also thinking about ordering a better knife sometime soon, something like a Damascus steel. Anyone have one of those?- Show previous comments 9 more

I have been gifted a Shun; chef, boning, and santoku knives over the past several years. I freakin love them. My Dad is the cook in the family, so I bought him a whet stone for Father’s Day last year and it has been quite useful. I was unsure which one to purchase, so I just went with a less expensive one that had solid reviews.
Side note: If you want to gawk at some fancy Damascus steel and can afford a cool $1,000 knife, check out Muamasi Fire Art. Joe Rogan talked about him briefly on a podcast and he was a judges pick contender who won an episode on Forged in Fire. Went to HS with him and he is a super great guy. https://instagram.com/maumasifirearts?igshid=11lolgktyp3ns
