If you're to the point where only immediate success will keep you as a fan, you should just call it and stop following the team.6 points

They’re already doing this. It’s been pretty clear they’ve been truthful with players which has led some to leave.6 points

So we had a bunch of ways and chances to win the Colorado game - a game that, in fact, did come down to the last play - and counter that with a single play in a different game that would have extended the game but was a long was from being decisive. And you think those two things are supposed to be equal. There seems to be a pattern of viewing things from the glass-less-than-half-empty side of the ledger.5 points

I don't think Scott Frost cares if you live to see Nebraska's return to greatness.... Also, losing to a 5-0 team on the road, while missing our starting QB, and best WR, seems like an odd time to reach the end of your patience.4 points

Visiting for Wiscy game. We are very high on his list along with ASU. Brandon Huffman thinks we are the one to beat and has put his CB in for him. Brandon is the lead recruiting expert for the West Coast just FYI.4 points

I get what your saying. I know for myself- I am just tired of all the excuses and over analysis of why it isnt as bad as it looks when you watch it. It is bad, it is pathetic to watch- now lets not be afraid to say it out loud- it doesnt mean your not a Frost supporter it just means your calling it what it is, UGLY AS s#!t. At the end of the day it is wins and losses and looking the way you should on the field. A disciplined, well coached football team. The defense has progressed this year and the offense has regressed this year. Special teams has regressed as well. So as a whole team we have regressed. We have played one hell of an easy schedule so far minus ohio state and that was a 41 point loss. I dont care to compare the first half of this year to the first half of last year. I think the first half of this year should be compared to the second half of last year. We should be progressing and building on the foundation set last year. Not comparing to the first 6 games of a new coaching staff. Lets just see how the season ends. But the week to week competition is taking a big step up from the first half of the season- so brace for 2-4 or 3-3. Unless they find a way to switch the magical switch they had last year. I have seen some guys on here make claims that our offense has just regressed because we lost 2 lineman and our RB and WR. I know they were fine players but lets be real for a minute. Did any of those 4 players get drafted? Ok so the loss of those 4 guys can not be the sole cause for our offense to go from a top 15 squad to pathetic. I just dont buy it. Martinez is 1 year older, we didnt have wandale last year so we have other things going for us this year too. Also playing Jurgens is a choice on the staff. 6 games in and the snaps are still ridiculous. I am a die hard Husker fan, I watch every game till the last second ticks off the clock. Even the games we lost by 70 points as painful as it was to watch. I believe Frost is the right coach for us and he will get us back to competing for National Championships. Yes you read that right. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. But right now there is some things I just dont understand what they are doing and why some guys are worse than last year.4 points

Too many people don't grasp just how young and inexperienced this offensive line is. O-lines take longer to develop than any other position on a football team. But right now our O-line depth chart is just 40% upperclassmen, and not one single senior. For comparison, the OL depth chart during Bo's last season was 83% upperclassmen.4 points

That's overstated. They would have kept the ball but they were still "only" at midfield with one minute to play. They still would have needed 20+ yards and make a FG to beat us. Or go to overtime. It would have given them a better chance. But them getting that call wouldn't have assured them the victory.4 points

They've been doing this for almost two years - how do you think we ended up with an offensive depth chart that's only 38% upperclassmen? That number should be 50%+.4 points

Pelini recruited Jerald Foster, Tanner Farmer and Cole Conrad. Ozigbo and Morgan were in Riley's first class, but Morgan committed before Riley was hired and I believe Ozigbo was first recruited by Pelini, but did commit to Riley.3 points

Hey, Nebraska is a 7.5 point underdog so you might as well throw some money on the Nebraska moneyline. Think about it, it's a win/win either way. If Nebraska wins you'll get about 2.5/1 on your money and if they lose you won't have to worry about those pesky EMTs fishing through your wallet when they drag you of the river!3 points

Now you're just not paying attention. I didn't start this line of thinking. Another poster suggested that we were an overtime game against Colorado away from being 5-1. I equated that with being a single play away from being 3-3, which is at least as valid as the premise I was handed. Then I suggested we both walk away from things that didn't happen. There's gotta be a healthy middle ground between kool-aid guzzling and abandoning hope. Pretty sure all the concerns I've brought up are shared in thousands of other posts, and most of them are realistic (things that have happened) and not pessimistic (I believe things will get better). I talk to fellow Husker fans across the country every week, and roughly 100% of them have been disappointed by the play this season, but certainly not writing the season off. I'd say the HuskerBoard sentiment is even rougher. I don't know any fanboard where unfettered optimism is the rule. Some healthy skepticism does't mean you love Nebraska any less.3 points

Posted this on Sunday in another forum, but thought it'd fit here better. Based on Football Outsiders stats through week 5 (Northwestern not factored in, but it'll get worse), our OL ranks 111th in the country in sack rate (filters out garbage time). On standard downs we're 55th and on passing downs the sack rate is 123rd. Beyond that our run game struggles are feeding directly into our passing struggles in my opinion. We're 105th in overall rushing, 88th on standard downs and 120th on passing downs. The only offensive line stat where we aren't ranked in the bottom half of the country is power success rate which is gaining first downs with less than 2 yards to go on 3rd or 4th down. That's helped significantly by AM's running ability. https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ncaaol/20193 points

Going into this a bit further: Pickering was 14 or 18 (78%) in 2018. Yes, he struggled a bit early, but his overall year was very good for a true frosh kicker. For comparison, Kris Brown was only 12 of 19 in 96 and 14 of 21 in 98. Drew Brown was 14 of 21 and 21 of 27 his first 2 years, before hitting 86% his last 2 seasons. Only Alex Henery was nearly "automatic" during all 4 years at NU, and I believe he set the NCAA record for FG accuracy in a career.3 points

I think his size to cover a TE will be huge. NFL teams are desperate for someone who can help cover guys like Gronk, Kittle, Graham, etc.3 points

Kids aren't' stupid, they can see the writing on the wall. I have a former player that is currently on the team (Walk-on, so a little different situation) and he HATES it, he hates everything about it, he hates that football is his life from 6am until 9pm (with school classes jammed in there) he hates that he is a tackling dummy, he hates that he is "on the team" but not really on the team if you know what I mean. He already wants out because he knows he will never play. I am sure the scholarship guys figure it out just as fast. I am sure one chat with the staff and they know they will never play.3 points

Was it though? Michigan sure, but at least OSU, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois are better this year than last. Probably Colorado and Iowa as well. Purdue was better last year, but that was still a mediocre team. Michigan State had their worst offense of all time last year. On paper last year was a tougher schedule, I don't really believe it was in reality.3 points

In my opinion the target number for D-line is 11. This is how I arrive at that target. You have 85 scholarships. Lets say you budget 3 for special teams. (Now that is a soft number and it could be anywhere from 0-3 but for a high level planninng view assume you never have more than 3 but potentially you could have a scholarship LS,K,P so you plan worst case scenario) So basically year to year you have 82 overall. Divide that in half for offense and defense and basically you can figure you have 41 scholarships to allocate for defense. Now if you had 4 scholarships at every position that would be 44 which is 3 over. To scale back to 41 just take 1 guy off at each level as there are 3 levels on defense. so if you are in a 3-4 defense than (3*4)-1 = 11. DB's and LB's are (4*4)-1 = 15. (IMO target numbers are tough to hit as rosters are pretty dynamic and sometimes you just might not have the talent or experience so you might load up on a position or you have unexpected attrition and the number of recruits that may or may not commit are unknown. So really they are probably working with ranges. So you could say that they want to be in the range of 10-12. But for this discussion I am saying 11 is optimal. If you go 12 than you have to be 1 short somewhere else. Okay if you were to break down the 11 DL I would say that you would want 7 DE's and 4 NG's. I think it's important to have 4 NG types because you may play an additional nose in goal-line defenses. Just going by body type or ability I would say that Daniels and Hutmacker are every down noses. I would say that Stille, Thomas,Rogers,Walker,Newsome, Wildeman and Robinson are more DE types. Green has been penciled as a DE. I think he could be a nose though if needed and will count him as a DE/NG. This means we need at least 1 more nose. Personally I feel pretty good about the numbers and talent at DL. We are pretty close. I agree with the concern at OLB. We have not done so well there.3 points
